This might be one of my favorite videos of yours. The childlike excitement is wholesome and every time you called us “Dude!” I was like ya?! Just like when my kids want to show me something.
17:02 I thinks its so amazing that Hasbro made everything so compatible and easy to customize to your own style. The Alice frame hardware included with the threaded holes, the ability to rearange the inside for more space, the removable wires and easy to remove back, and even the combadability with the Neutrona Wand. Really shows they thought of the community and people who just want a really solid and worthwhile prop.
(insert joke about how at least one division of Hasbro has respect for community here, because of the “Dungeons and Dragons” third-party producer license update mess).
Savage gonna be Savage, but the level of praise he has for this pack right out of the box just makes me all the more glad. Video makes a good guide for some of the simpler cosmetic changes. Damn thing needs to arrive yesterday.
My pack turned up yesterday when I started watching this, and I cannot WAIT to get started on my weathering and mods. I love stuff like this. But as a 50 year old who has wanted a proton pack since I was 12 years old watching the first film (and has never even seen one in real life) I can't BELIEVE I even have this sitting here next to me. I keep looking at it and randomly turning it on to hear that sound and see the lights. For the price it's an absolute STEAL. Might need to frame my Adam Savage autograph I got outside the Royal Albert Hall in London a few years back before I start on this project 😂
My ex's father, as part of his work on his PhD in physics, made a small particle collider the size of a wall clock. So technically, it appears you *could* put one in that pack. It wouldn't make that cool sound when turned on, but at least when you use the line, "Why worry? Each of us is wearing an unlicensed nuclear accelerator on his back," you wouldn't entirely be making it up. 😁 (edit: for reference, technically a CRT in an old fashioned television is a "particle accelerator" using electrons, so its not really difficult).
The snipping the cable and forgetting the screw is my favorite part of the video. WE HAVE ALL BEEN THERE, it just makes me feel better to know a master at this goofs up too!😆
Phenomenal upgrades; definitely going to be using some these techniques shown on our HasLab packs that are due to arrive soon! As a side note regarding the GB1 ribbon cable that is used in this video; it was supplied by Fincher Technologies and is indeed film-accurate for Ghostbusters Afterlife as we were the ones tasked with supplying them to the props team for the film. 😊 It is truly an honor to see you using our ribbons on your builds and please let us know if you ever need more.
Your GB cable kits have been consistently the best I have found. I have been forwarding all my locals to your shop for their wires and cables. Thanks for the great products.
Is there any single piece of prop that is more tailored to Adam’s weathering skills in movie history? This thing has it all, and Adam is the Bob Ross of weathering. I could watch this stuff all day.
The one modification this needs most is a severe speaker upgrade. That flimsy sound is so sad. When you start a proton pack, you should feel the power.
Your initial video you had with the prototype is what convinced me to back the haslab project. This video just makes me all the more excited to get mine.
Love these long-form builds. Took me two sittings to watch, but I was excited to come back to it. Love how he gives little tutorials on how and why he's doing things.
that part is also the most annoying part of these videos. Adam starts talking and pointing out differences, meanwhile we just get b-roll from one of the things, usually not even showing the parts being talked about. just wish the b-roll editing would take the talking into consideration, rather than just feel dumped in to fill space
"Ghostbusters...addled for over a decade." Adam? ME TOO. I was born Nov. 1984 and literally grew up watching it one of my earliest memories is hiding behind the couch from the Librarian. This pack is amazing and I am BOGGLED at your knowledge of the Ghostbusters details, you make me want to be a better maker.
Same here, man. Born in february 1984 and the first time i saw Ghostbusters it scared the crap out of me, might have been a little too young for it...(the eighties and nineties were awesome that way 😉)
Can't wait till my sons are old enough to watch the Ghostbusters, both of them! (Yes, i'm being the responsible parent 😉sadly we're not in the eighties anymore 🤭) God, we were born at the right time! Think of all the awesome classics we had while growing up. Face it, nothing from the past decade compares to what we got back then! Even the b movies, in some cases especially those. Thank God for dvd's, my sons are going to see just how more awesome those movies were
I am stoked to receive my pack on Friday. I’ve been very impressed with the wand. There are some minor issues, but the electronics are outstanding. A switch to change between firing modes from the official video game? Using the top knob to adjust vibration and volume of hum? Are you kidding me? I can’t wait to upgrade the pack and wand. I’m even more excited knowing I’ll have extra stickers and hardware.
This is much awesome! I can't wait to do the same with my pack when I get it. I love how you can bang around a proton pack and it just gets more authentic.
I must say... Hasbro has really done good this time. I love how detailed they got with this one. But the fact that you made it more detailed really made it pop.
Thanks to this video, it gave me enough encouragement to make a mod to my Neutrona Thrower that seemed too difficult to do without damaging it near-permanently. Thankfully, it worked perfectly, and now it looks perfectly ready to be added to my soon-to-come Haslab Pack!
After watching Adam disassemble, weather, and alter a new proton pack, I am curious as to what he would do after buying a new car? Let's weather the finish, add some curb rash to the chrome wheels, a few chips to the windshield, ahhh now that's a car!
HasLab has been a boon for 80s nerds. I ordered the Cobra HISS Tank from one of the last offerings. Unfortunately, I had missed some of the previous releases. I did skip the Proton Pack, since I'm not a huge GB nerd, but glad to hear it's a labor of love.
Such obsession with minutia. Such fastidious concern with the esoteric. Love it. Even though, in no logical world would any of that “do” anything. It’s still fun to watch.
I was so incredibly nervous watching Adam disassemble this pack but at the same time I felt this calm knowing Adam is Adam and if anyone can put thing back together even better than its original state it's Adam. I'd really love to see Jamie Hyneman's reaction during this process. LOL
LOL! I loved it when you pause after you make a mistake. Yeah, it's always that one last screw that gets ya. And when it comes to cutting wires that could just as easily be disconnected; I always remember the advice of a famous brain surgeon, "don't pull on anything until you know where it goes" :)
"I don't ever throw anything away." These are the words that keep going round and round in my head, as I buy a never ending assortment of storage bins.
Ours arrived yesterday and I couldn’t be happier. We’ve been watching your vids on the Phoebe pack since you had a chance to look at the prototype and finally yesterday - it arrived. The level of detail Hasbro have put into this thing totally blows me away. It’s amazing. I’ve wanted one since I was 12 years old! It’s been a wait but finally I have my own proton pack! One gripe - I wish it would stay on indefinitely for display purposes. I could just sit and look at it all day! But it powers itself down too quickly. But overall, amazing work! Why could I not have this in 1984?!!!
I can't wait for my pack to come in. I need to order parts and a frame for it so I can do a once over on it as well. Once I'm done with it I plan to make my own pack using all the technique you've show us.
Looks to me like he took back the factory metallic weathering on the cyclotron cover and bumper. How? Scotch Brite? ISO? Cover with streaks n tips and/or ebony rub n buff? I don’t want to do a paint of the whole shell, but would like to take it back a bit.
Love your videos Adam ,im almost on the home stretch with my upgraded Haslab ,ive just got the ion arm and Ribbon cable to go along with the wand hose ,but i couldnt be happier with how its turned out ,really look forward to seeing your mod of the inside of the cyclotron and cake.
Hey Adam - when you go to look into the motherboard: the particle accelerator should be disassembled and taken out as it helps hold the motherboard and pack front together. Otherwise there’s several screws holding it together. Two of the long screws in the middle of the motherboard hold two pieces on the front of the pack. Also the Dixie cup holder for the neutrona wand on the pack is held by screw and nut/washer on the inside. You will need to take the motherboard off to do it. Best of luck whenever you decided to tackle it.
I still remember when I had a whole plastic proton pack when I was 4-5 years old. I cut my eyebrow while playing with it and I carry that cut as a medal of honor from ghostbusting. My inner child is just in awe with this one.
LOL ok Adam, if I lived there we would be the best of friends. You’re just like me, only smarter. We’re the same age and neither of us is happy with anything no matter how awesome a piece is. We cannot leave anything alone I always find something I can change or improve. I’ll sit and stare at it for hours working it in my head, seeing the final product and even make a material list. Then I get after it
Great weathering and video Adam, I'm actually a bit surprised they changed the ladder but at the same time thankful you helped them out there.wasnt thinking we would get a more accurate ladder. on my neutrino wand I weather's the device only mildly to wait till my pack arrives and then see were I want to take it (for me probably somewhere between the original pack and the new rusted weather pack) I will weather the stand as I did with my neutrino wand to make it not rusted but rather lived on a shelf for ages worn in and lived in
Loved this, looks great :). I have to say something though, every time I watch one of your builds I get a little envious. I love your workshop, I hope to have one just like it someday. I know that I would spend days in it doing various things. Anyway, loved the proton pack, can't wait to see more :D.
Got one of my packs yesterday. Definitely awesome. I spent a lot of time modding and tricking out my Spirit pack and plan to do the same here. Only real gripe is that the pack has an auto shutoff after a couple of minutes of inactivity. That needs to be overridden somehow. I also plan to make it look more like a 1984 pack.
Your workshop must have millions of $ worth of tools and supplies, but it's only people in the trade that can see the stuff's true value. I'm amazed at what you have gathered over a lifetime of making shite look that realistic you can smell it, I hope that's taken as a compliment as that's how it was intended. But please get a multi-axis CNC router that can talk the same language as your 3d printers. All the very best from Scotland
Hasbro's HasLab is really awesome. Expensive, but awesome. Wish more toys and such that they make were like what they come out with and maybe future ones will be cheaper someday when more interest comes for them.
I am eagerly awaiting my proton pack and will almost certainly be attempting to replace the ribbon cable and that yellow sleeve as you did. Making me want to go to SiliCon and show you my Ghostbuster cosplay once I finish it!
Highly recommend you looking into the grip tape mod for the wand. It’s a 3d printed grip covered with the tape they used in the movie. I found the info on Ghostbusters News TH-cam page a while back.
The thing I like about the look of the Phoebe pack is this: It's supposed to be the pack she inherited from Egon. Meaning it's Egon's pack, or was, rather. So how it looks in Phoebe's time is how one would expect it'd look if Egon spent years toiling over maintaining and upgrading it.
This is so cool! I'm pretty blown away by just how little you need to do to Haslab's pack to make it look like a genuine fan-made movie replica. Darnit I wasn't thinking I would touch my pack once it arrives since it's a "collector's item" but this video made me change my mind. Who wouldn't rather have the one on the left!? :) The dullcote really did a lot for the shiny plastic these toys are made of too. Might have to do the same treatment to my wand. This was an awesome one-day build video. Can't wait to see what Adam does with the cyclotron.
Awesome 😺💙🐾 I too, as a child of the 80’s, grew up dreaming of kit like this! And I earned my time wearing an ALICE rucksack at taxpayer expense. RLTW Cheers 🍻
There is a small detail to the pack by removing the clipped ribbon cable bracket. Nothing major, but just a nice easter egg if you keep it and remove it when the pack is on.
Barnard clay has long been used by potters as a source of iron in dark firing glazes. It offers price advantages over using iron oxide and being a clay aids in suspending the materials in the slurry. Barnard has proven valuable for iron slip glazes requiring high clay content. That’s what it’s used for

This is wonderful to watch. Thank you for sharing your process.
Adam - It's obvious that HasLab know their demographic, and it is YOU! 😋
My arrived this morning and so made up you have done this Vlog.
Keep up the great work 👍👍👍👍
Omg. That is beautiful, I want one now. , can't wait
Amazing paint job and weathering !!
For the interior of the Cyclotron, there is a great set of 3D files available on Etsy :)
You are genius You build anything sir this is awesome i really like you thanks for sharing another fantastic video adam sir .
Awesome! This is incredible! Keep up the good work Adam!
Wow loved watching this and that final pack!…insane!!!
Nicely done Adam, wish I had been able to back it. Heres hoping they open it up to buy again.
Please do your second video with the cyclotron interior detailing sooner, rather than later. 20,000+ backers are waiting for this!!!!
Barnard clay has long been used by potters as a source of iron in dark firing glazes. It offers price advantages over using iron oxide and being a clay aids in suspending the materials in the slurry. Barnard has proven valuable for iron slip glazes requiring high clay content. That’s what it’s used for
