    Beyond just learning an external form or forms, a student's emphasis "must" also focus on applying the "essential" internal principles of Taijiquan as specified by the Taiji classics, such as.....sinking , roundness , using the mind and not force, applying of the "Yi" (heart/mind), "Qi" (energy) & "Shen" (spirit) in one's form.

    I am 60 years old... I have studied for over 30 years... and spent 30 years in a govt job that employed the skills. Very few appreciate the slow motion control such as this man has.... It is very true that if you have control at this speed... it is not much of a transition as many think. I really appreciate just being able to watch the video... thanks for posting.

    For those unfamiliar with this form, this is about the first third, not the entire 108.

    I like the lifting of the foot and placing heel ball toe and it shows clearly the empty leg. But lifting it that high surely leaves you vulnerable. I’m taught to lift it very little and place.

      Tony Dailide if you are lifting your empty leg to defend your supporting leg a bit of height is a good thing .

    Superior control and balance,.. he directs his Qi smoothly, evenly, and with a focused intent.
    Very good example of correct Taijiquan,... not commonly found on youtube.

    By the principles of Tai Chi Chuan:
    Yi Man Sheng Kuai: "With slowness quickness is defeated"
    Dong Zhong Qui Jing: "Strive for calmness whilst in action"
    The execution at a lower speed facilitates the understanding of each moviment and its flow of energy, i.e., instructional in this perspective. Slow performance is in total coherence with the classic philosophy of tai chi.

    This is a very inspiring execution of the form - fluid, subtle, and soft yet "strong" and looks very grounded. It is such an immense pleasure to watch, and to aspire to. Thank you very much for sharing your experience, Sifu.

    He moves very well.
    This form is not too far removed from that originally performed by masters like chen man ching, all the moves are recognizable (some of the moves are compressed / or two moves combined into one compound move).
    This is approximately 1/3 of the original full 108, which would take something between 35 and 45 minutes depending on speed of execution.
    The time taken here is less than a third because of the compression of several moves.

    I've watched tons of Yang Long Form Tai Chi videos on TH-cam and so far this is the only one that is very similar to the form I learned. Just a few very minor differences in how we do things but overall very much the same. I've never understood why all the Yang Long Forms seem to look different from this one.

      Me too. This is the closest to my form I've seen. Via Graham Horwood.

    • @inmemoryofin
      @inmemoryofin 23 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      This is the style of the form I learned as well. I agree it’s less common but I feel it’s the standard somehow (I learned other styles beforehand). Even the “Yang Family” style of the form is at once the same but so different.
      My personal practice deviates from what’s shown here in that I don’t lean the front knee out much past the shin. I feel jin is lost at the knee when leaning this far. I’ve noticed it’s extremely common to lean out though so maybe it’s just me.

    • @therealdealblues
      @therealdealblues 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@inmemoryofin I never let the knee go past the toes.
      After my mentor passed away I went on a bit of a quest and have spent the last several years researching the various forms of Yang style T’ai Chi Chuan and have gained a lot of insight into many of the differences. Sifu Peter Tam Hoy stated he trained with Tung Hu Ling (son of Dong Yingjie) but later adopted much from Fu Zhongwen. My late teacher also studied under Tung Hu Ling originally but also modified the style based on his own knowledge of the human body and reading Yang Chengfu’s writings in the original Chinese. The Tung/Dong family lineage as well as the Fu Zhongwen lineage both are considered Yang although they are different than the current family form which comes from Yang Zhenduo (which is also modified from the original form). Yang Chengfu’s eldest son Yang Shouzhong also had his own modified version. Yang’s eldest son, Fu Zhongwen and Dong Yingjie all studied with Yang Chengfu so they are all equally valid forms. Also Yang Chengfu modified his own form throughout his lifetime so depending on when students left and trained with him also made a difference as to how their forms varied. It’s a really complex web haha but I have enjoyed learning and talking to a lot of teachers over the last several years.

    It's really nice to see the part of the long form played by someone advanced. The form i do came down through Ip Tai Tak, so it is a little different fromthis, but it is still a truely beautiful thing to see being done well.

    I'm a little sad to see that it's only about a third of the whole 108 yang classics. Do you do it in both directions? The way I have learned, it is divided into 3 parts, and the video ended in the second part and the next move should be "turn the clouds" (a direct translation from Estonian - I've learned it in Estonia). But it is similar to our way of doing the form.

    The difference between yang style tai chi and yin style tai chi is that there isn't any yin style tai chi. The yang in this question is a different character than the one for yin-yang. Yang style taijiquan is named after the Yang family.

Would someone please give me a valid e-mail address for Sifu. The one listed has been returned as undeliverable and we are hoping that he sells instructional dvds for the traditional sword as well as saber. I surely wish that I was in Hawaii right now. Thank you, Sifu.
