Fantastic looking flies Davie. I'm all booked up for South Uist for next year now so I'll be filling my boxes with your killers all winter. Thanks for the tips. 👍👏🎣
Thanks again Davie for taking the time to tye my fly and sharing it on your TH-cam channel, both catch fish consistently and are well worth a place in anyone's box 👍
Congrats on reaching 100k Subscribers Davie. I learned to tie flies watching your videos and I’m sure that’s the case for many of you’re subscribers. First Trout flies then on to Salmon flies. So I thank you for your hard work putting out these informative videos regularly over the years, I appreciate them greatly.👏👏👏
Thanks again for another great from you the master.. I always find these videos very soothing, now that COVID is easing I should actually get out and catch. 🎣
Morning Michael, Yes, I would say any trout that feed on mayfly and caddis would certainly take this pattern if tyed in the right colour and size to suit.. Alll the very best Davie
Hello Davie I just love watching your fly tying videos you make it look so easy, can I please ask you a question regarding UV resin and UV torches I see you use Fulling mill resin but what make of torch do you use to set it , the reason I ask is that I have some Loon thin uv resin and my torch is not a branded one but for some reason the resin is still a little tacky hours after applying and trying to set it I only apply it thin so I wonder can you advise me please. Many thanks
Hi Peter, I haven't came across a resin that is not slightly tacky after setting them with any torch though I have used the Bug-Bond version since it came out as it only needs a single battery and lasts longer than many others of the same type. Although I also use the plugin adapter as well when I am working at home, I have attached a link below..What I do though after setting the resin is to coat it with a fine clear varnish which seals and keeps it clear, it also stops water getting under the resin which can make it lift and turn white.. Hi Kris, I have used butcher patterns in sizes 8s, 10s and 12s over the years especially for grilse and seatrout though I have had a couple of good sized salmon on them.. All the very best Davie..
Hi Piere the tail is spot on !! The flash is on the money ( less is more ) the movement is the key in both my flies that Davie has kindly tied on his TH-cam channel the fish take them both with real confidence as I've stated in the other video !! Give them a go I'm sure they won't disappoint you 👍 Billy
@@BB1872 Hi Billy, good point about the movement. I am looking at it from the point of hunting wild Steelhead Trout in NZ, on our local waters the trout would nip the tails and not hook up, plus we release our fish, so we use barbless hooks. If I was fishing for kingfish (Māori names: kahu, haku,; Scientific name: Seriola lalandi lalandiin) in the Hauraki Gulf , I would use your fly, especially if I could get you to tie it! Cheers mate. Harera
@@pierevojzola9737 Hi again the sea trout take them from underneath a they are always hooked in the scissors or tongue as they come up below them then turn on them !! None I've ever caught have been hooked deep , drop me a message on Facebook under my name or dm me on Instagram under Teal Blue and I'll tye them for you on barbless hooks
@@BB1872 Thanks for the offer to tie some of your flies for me, appreciate your kindness. I have been tying my own flies since they went up in price from thirty cents to fifty cents NZ (now they sell them for NZ$ 3.50 each). My son and I have just finished a six day fishing trip on the Tongariro River fishing for wild Steelhead trout that have run up from Lake Taupo for their yearly spawning. Son was catching six fish to two of mine mainly on naturals like Hair and Copper or pheasant tail flies tied on #14 barbless hooks. Good size hens at anything from three-to seven pounds. All are released as we are off home tomorrow. Its been a good start to the season and we will be back next month. Cheers mate and Harera.
Hi Paul, The hook I used was designed to be fished in saltwater as well as this fly which I'm glad you liked...A friend has written an article for Fly Fishing and Fly Tying magazine and he asked me if I could film them to coincide with it coming out on the 6th of August, I'm glad you liked them..
