    About the colour: Kaweco is originally a brand from Heidelberg and several hundreds of years back, the "court" in Heidelberg had a jester and court dwarf called Perkeo. He is always depicted in very colourful clothing and I guess that Kaweco is paying tribute to that.

    I love my Perkeos and the best thing is that you can swap the nibs with the TWSBI Eco, Go and Diamond Mini. The nibs from the German company „Online“ also fit.

    I know I am late to see this video, but I was really excited to finally see a Perkeo review! I have some of the sports, but I am not a fan of small pens, and I thought the converters were so small, they were just silly! So I bought some Perkeos (Breezy Teal and Peony Blossom), and that fixes everything I disliked about the Sports--longer and more inking options, and still fun colors! And, of course the price point is fabulous for gifting, especially since it can accommodate a standard converter, which are easy to find. I am a little embarrassed to love a pen designed for little kids, though, LOL.

    The grip is called an ergonomic grip and for a reason. It allows for prolonged writing sessions with less fatigue and hand strain. It is used on these type of entry level pens because in Germany, the use of fountain pens is still pretty much mandatory in school. These kind of grip sections are designed to help children grip a pen in an ergonomic way.

    I think I have one of the first releases of this pen, I've had it for more that 4 years now. I didn't and still don't see anything child like about it. I'm a big guy and this is one of the largest from Kaweco, the reason I got it. All the Sports are just too small. But, here's the important part. This pen works better than almost any other pen I have except for a Safari and an Lx from Lamy. I don't want to use it all the time, but when I am looking for the pen that will write without a problem and get me going with no fuss - Perkeo to the rescue. Other than using it as a lawn dart, I don't think I can screw it up. Plus, I never get ink on my fingers, a sign of something you don't have to mess around with.

    Thank you for the video. I'm a dad with 3 kids, and manage team from 5 countries. after hearing you saying this pen is designed just for kids, and all that, you kind of hypnotized me and I am getting one for myself today, for "work".

    About fountain pens for kids: All German kids still have to learn how to use a fountain pen in one of their first years of elementary school. More so, students are not allowed to write with anything else until they start their 11th year of school (unless they have dropped out by then). So there is indeed a large market for affordable pens of all writing levels.

    Awesome review as usual. I just pulled the trigger on the sport (thanks to your videos). I'm getting used to it. It's my first pocket pen and while I knew it would be small I think I underestimated how small. I'm enjoying the sport but depending on if I can get over the slightness of it I may try a Perkeo to see if it's more my taste.

    One of my favourite features of the Lamy Safari is the grip. It’s great in terms of learning to hold a pen properly. I love that it fits a standard international converter. The converter on the sport is why too small. I really want to buy it after watching this. Your house is immaculately clean.

    I’m still playing with my Kaweco Brass Sport (with a gold nib from Dan Smith/Nibsmith) that I like a lot. I’m also trying to keep no more than 3 pens inked at a time, but that may change as I have a Pilot 74 being delivered later today. Haha!
    Thanks for the video, Kerry, I will consider the Perkeo for my next purchase.

    I bought my Kaweco Perkeo about 18 months ago, and fell in love with it. It is the all black version inked with Noodler's Black and it is a very wet writer. This is the pen that answered my question "Why do you prefer wet writing nibs?" Now I seek pens that are wet writers. Having not been all that long in the fountain pen world, I class thus pen as a "gusher" of a writer as it is incredibly beautifully delightfully wet. While it is very inexpensive, and it is always ready to write and it remains in my regular rotation along with my Platinum 3776 Century.

    BTW… On my Kaweco Perkeo the clip designed for the Kaweco Sport, fits nicely. All I did was use two pair of pliers, some brute force, and after enough bending of the clip (a little bit at any one time), the clip finally was able to fit this Perkeo.

    Hey Sports Fan! Was excited to see this review as I ordered the exact same Breezy Teal two days ago. I enjoyed your comments on the Perkeo. Being new to fountain pens I am searching out info;glad this pen gets good reviews. This will be my first Kaweco.
    If the nibs are swappable from the TWSBI ECO I will try to get a 1.5mm stub into the Perkeo at some point;but,I'm not experienced enough to do that sort of thing yet.
    The Perkeo's triangular section will be fine for me I think;I just got a Pelikan Twist medium(kids pen) that's triangulated section is soooo comfy with which to write. Love the "Mystic Shine" color. Love it and everything about it;so far.
    Have the Kaweco Perkeo Calligraphy set on the way! I love to write with stub nibs. Need to pace myself on my pen acquisition;but, some of the less expensive fountain pens are too much fun!
    $4.95 for a Jinhao X-750(on sale at Goulet); and I put a Goulet 1.5mm stub on it. I have to flood the feed once in a while but enjoy the weight and shape of that pen;and the lines are so nice and juicy. OK,I have to confess that after I got that X-750 running I ordered a backup. Issues? Possibly. But I've already got $4.95 worth of fun out of that first one;if it falls apart tomorrow;no worries.
    That Robert Oster Monsoon Sky ink looks amazing! I'm taking notes.
    Hey,I watched all the way to the end and subscribed. Very cool review. Looking forward to more. Thanks!

    I got the black one several months ago. My Stealth Perkeo looked great, was comfortable, but took forever to get it to write-at all. I lost count at the many times I cleaned it and tried various inks. I learned how to tune a pen on it. My EF is now a Medium-Broad. But it has more feedback than I like. The Spring colors that came out this year seem to be getting good reviews. I am wondering if the nib is different?

    • @MiguelGonzalez365
      @MiguelGonzalez365 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have a Perkeo that writes very well, but I needed months to adjust it, because out of box it did not work properly, the flow was variable.
      The problem was that the nib was 2 mm out. The engraved M appeared far away from the neck of the section. I had to remove the nib feed assembly and replace it. It has been working fine ever since.
      Removing the feed and nib is a difficult operation. To facilitate the work, it is advisable to leave the section with the nib in water for a few hours. With one hand on the barrel and the other on the nib it comes out, but you have to use force.
      If you watch the video, the nib of the review is facing outwards, badly positioned. Google photos of the nib and you will see the correct position.
      About your adjustment, I think you overdid it by pressing the nib against a hard surface. You shouldn't write so thick. The M has to be on the neck line. The tip slit measures approximately 0.025 mm. Increasing 0.010 mm is usually sufficient. You have increased 0.2 mm. Do you understand now? The width of the stroke is given by the contact surface of the tip. In your case, the variation is obtained by enlarging the slit, not the contact surface. I think that changes the personality of the nib.There is a way to reverse the problem. Look in "The pen habit" videos. Matt Armstrong explains it very well. Each nib should be bent downward and inward, like scissoring.
      Another problem can occur if you use a converter. Make sure that the mouth is well inserted. Some force is required.
      Generally, the writing feel of the Perkeo is like pencil on paper. The nib is different from all the nibs I tried. But it is very smooth. Search for another ink. I recommend Waterman Blue Serenity or Rohrer & Klingner blue permanent.
      The scratching may have its origin in the adjustments you have made. You may have misaligned the tips. It only needs to be very slight to be noticeable. If you manage to adjust the fountain pen to your liking, as a last operation you can smooth the tip with micromesh. Act with caution, without haste.

    I find a lot of the # 6 nibs are too long for the way I like to hold the pen...would #5 or 5.5 be shorter or just narrower?

    • @sajjadhusain4146
      @sajjadhusain4146 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A #5 is almost always both shorter and narrower. I’m guessing you’re a high gripper of the section like I am. That makes it more comfortable writing with pens having smaller #5 nibs. Though, for me, #6 nibs are perfectly cool, too.

    • @PensandTea

      I’d probably chose the Kakuno between the two mostly because separating the nib and feed for cleaning is easier on the Pilot and the nib is slightly smoother. The sport is my ride or die so I’d chose it over the perkeo as well BUT it is still a solid pen, especially if you want a full sized pen.
