Ruin's fantastic. IMO, I think it's in a decent spot now. It's not overly destructive like it was at 200%, it's not too weak like when it would vanish after a Survivor died (though I think there's an argument to be had that when a typical match is down to three Survs, it's tilted strongly in the Killer's favor (depending on the board state, of course))... it's not bad. I've been using it on Skull Merchant in an all hex build, and it's served well (thanks Pixel Bush), and last night me and friends got rinsed by a Plague on Swamp because we couldn't find it. We got down to one gen left before the game was over, and we spent a ton of time looking for it (and I think that's where we went wrong. We made a bad choice as a team).

But hex:ruin bought me the time I needed to even up the score. 😊 They lost, I won. And I got my 5 reeled & hit 😊😊
Few killers make use of Ruin as well as Knight does, IMO. Also, I haven't heard anyone speaking Catalan in well over a decade. Gave me brain whiplash you did. (I don't speak it, but a friend learned some in preparation after being chosen as an exchange student)
Ruin is usually bad personally. For example, if someone starts by the totem or if they get 3 gens done in one chase or if they actually cleanse the totem. However, if they cleanse the totem then there's obviously no use with the perk anymore plus if it's a good team then ruin won't matter
@@callumlong1521 nah I worded it weird. Im saying that if your first chase takes enough time that the survivors are able to do 3 Gens then ruin isnt the Problem, the Problem is that you should end your chases quicker
@Luna.Tenebra ye I get that. But say you chase someone leave chase to pressure gens, chase someone else then 3 gens are done during the 2nd chase, then it's kinda not the killers fault cause they tried to apply pressure. This doesn't apply to the S tier killers for obvious reasons but B and lower it applies alot to
Otz! A little knight tip: if you want always consistent gen snipes with guards, you just need to put a guard (doesn't really matter which one) a bit further (forward) from the gen so that if survivors try to escape it they'll just run it to them ( and even if they're going the opposite way than they're still on a guard's patrol path, so it doesn't matter). With this trick I always catch survivors of gens. Anyways, nice video, keep up the grind!)
As much as background player/champion of light makes me want to get Mori'd irl, it is really funny to watch injured survivor's crab walk at unprecedented speed, while aiming their light around, making noises of pain and anguish the whole time. It feels liek a very strange interpretive art piece
I love surveillance. My main build before the (second) Ruin nerf included Ruin/Surveillance, and on any chase killers after the nerf it was Jolt/Pain Res/Surveillance. It saves an incredible amount of time and drastically boosts your map pressure. Being able to completely focus on chases with no downside *and* know exactly where the survivors you need to pressure are while still having a top tier slow down effect at the cost of 2 perk slots (3 if you used Undying) was insane and unfair. The speed nerf was very necessary for curbing 99'ed gens going to zero because the killer checked on you. That can still happen, but your team can rotate to finish it and not lose quite as much time. I could even approve of an effect like Overcharge, where it starts a bit slower than normal and ramps up to standard speed after enough time. The bigger thing for me with Ruin was actually it disappearing on it's own after a kill. I understand why they did it, and I don't even disagree with it, but the late game was always the time I needed reliable information for very precise macro the most (especially with split gens), and getting someone out was my sigh of relief, and the only potential I had to get back into a losing game at 1 gen. There were scenarios where killing someone almost felt like it somehow made my position even more dire. Admittedly this wouldn't be as big of a problem if I didn't crutch on Surveillance so much that I forgot how to play the game without it, and I know Ruin was still quite good, but I stopped using it because it didn't fill my preferred niche as well. Now that the self-cleanse effect is gone, it feels really nice again.
knight might be my favorite killer concept atm, i hope that the devs can fix all of his bugs and make him one of the stronger killers in the game bc he is so engaging and cool
As a brutal strength enjoyer i love ruin. it allows me to focus on chase (the fun part) as i don't have to worry about every gen. ruin is not as strong as something like pop but it doesnt mean its bad and i think people dont realize it doesnt need to be
My hypothesis about the "map offering=DC" phenomenon is that whoever is bringing a map offering may be the type who needs predictability for good execution, because map offerings remove the most RNG; which means that they may also be the sort who are the most easily frustrated when things don't go according to plan.
To be honest you had best case scenario in this game. Other cases that perk could be gone in 30< seconds (or last decently long) and you played one of the best users for ruin as well. I will say that it can be strong and is good overall with all things being considered. (~ B or B+) Edit: very nice video the dc was crazy ngl
I hadn't logged into DbD in about a year and a half. I saw the Knight skin and had to immediately buy it though. Same with that one gray Plague skin. Nice. I got the impression their cosmetics have been getting better recently?
Hey otz I mostly play survivor but have been playing more and more killer lately and was just wondering what your thoughts on this build are. I have been playing it on Chucky but a little on the xenomorph but was overall looking to see if it was a good build or not, also maybe another killer you'd recommend it on other then Chucky or xenomorph 1-lethal pursuer 2-furtive chase 3-friends 'til the end 4-Rancor/pop goes the weasel
Also will listen to any comments that anyone else has🙏 there's just so many perks nowadays and otz is a crazy good killer player so I figured this is where I should come for advice since he's not live at the moment 😅
Ruin is bad. It's good only for gen camping. But why would you want to camp gens when you can snowball and have one survivor hooked, one trying to save and one being chased? I play huntress/spirit/hillbilly and without anti-gen perks. In 80-90% of games survivors never have a chance to open gates. I think Ruin could be useful for slow and hard-to-snowball killers only I've had a big break from DBD (like 4 years or more) and my build may be outdated, but I still can win on red ranks with it: Billy - enduring + spirit fury + whispers + bbq/nurse's calling/etc. (enduring + spirit fury let me rush any pallet with chainsaw ez) Huntress - shadowborn + nurse's calling + bitter murmur + huntress lullaby (want to replace with alien's perk) Spirit - devour hope + haunted ground + nurse's calling + huntress lullaby Huntress lullaby is not the best perk, but I think it is still better than ruin since even if it doesn't slow down gens, it forces survivors to be extremely patient while repairing, so it will make a harder time for them and they will more likely fail or pay less attention to surroundings
Literally every game with knight 3:41. The minions missing a person in front of them if you don't have map of the realm. Or the minions walking around a pallet instead of going through it with the changed AI.
First off, he brings Map of the Realm. Secondly, he put that guard still bit too far. Otz should have placed it exactly at the gen rather than in front of it. Since there's a chance the trees or rocks can block the guards' detection
I do think it could be anywhere from 110% to 125% at the very least to make it a more consistent choice over other perks. Given how much regression some perks like Overcharge have had in recent memory I can't see why it couldn't be just slightly better than normal regression speed in some way considering that you can cleanse it with a totem. 100% with the risk of losing the perk in 10 seconds with an unlucky spawn just feels like a middle finger in the face outside of some niche cases.
I have a balance change idea... What if guards still chase survivors after you them first? Like if you hit them first, guards dosnt despawn, and continues the chase until hit, flag removed or by the duration end... Good idea or nah?
While I do agree Ruin can be strong, I feel like this was also somewhat the courtesy of Surveillance providing the necessary info of which gen is no longer regressing. Would it have been an impossible game without Surveillance? Not at all but Surveillance offered a peace of mind that there was no-one on the specific generators which would have otherwise needed to be checked on.
true, without surveillance they could just be working on them, maybe pausing for a second or two to avoid you then continue, and ruin wouldn't mean anything
Nah i can't agree, passive regression or not it's so slow and can still be taken away early unless you run undying but then your giving up two perk slots for something that can still be taken away. Better just bringing brutal strength to kick gens quick and get the 5%.
Someone in the chat already mentioned it, but the Meg might've actually dc'ed because of the Jake. He did go for the gen before trying to pick Meg up and there's a lot of survivors who interpret that as your teammate not caring about the game, so they just leave. But that's a whole problem of it's own
As a Knight main. This whole gameplay just pissed me off lol. Especially the fact that he said the guards were useless even though he was the one who didn't place them properly
I believe they should make ruin cleanse available when survivors pop 1 or 2 gens then they can cleanse it, the devs could add like a plaything block effect on ruin for a set amount of time or set amount of gens
@@syn4621 it is kinda double edge. often long gen-blocks makes survivor leave generators allowing ruin to regress after the unblock. this implies your applying pressure to the team and continuously hooking.
I can't get into DBD as it's too complex without much for explanation and any build id want as a new player takes FOREVER to grind for. I really wish I could enjoy the game more, but as it stands, atleast Otz' videos are well put together and easy to understand, and 21% of the content in them isn't locked behind a paywall.
i feel you. it really feels like that for super long before you start unlocking some perks you finally wanted for so long. though, maybe you already knew since this was three weeks ago, but there was a 3x bloodpoints week, and there's gonna be a 2x bloodpoints one again around vecna's release. With that bonus alone i got literally a million points in just an afternoon. that's 2 full 0 to 50 killers/survivors for very little time investment. and the new system isn't nearly as grindy as before too, what i remember is my own and other's suffering from back in 2018 lol
Ruin is fine but extremely situational and more importantly unreliable because of how slow basekit regression is and it IS a hex after all. It also has anti synergy with gen kicking perks until it's gone, so while pop can be used afterwards to replace ruin. It's usually better to just pick a chase/aura reading perk, especially ones that have synergy with the killer and/or their add-ons (like coup for Wesker) I used ruin on nemi for a while with the same idea as knight with guards, but you cannot control zombies besides minor buffs from add-ons. So it was simply too inefficient and unreliable despite running undying with ruin. Pain res + grim embrace is simply more effective. Overall, ruin is certainly good on knight, and maybe a buff to it would make it overpowered on knight, but for most killers it just doesn't work well on them. If there was some way to make ruin more effective on more killers, while also preventing it from being OP on knight (like reworking it from a hex to a perk that works only when 4 people are alive) then it would be much better.
If you see someone with Ruin, what happens if you just tap a gen 8 times? Will the gen no longer regress cause of the gen regression limit? If so would stop Surge and Pain Res and the like
does ruin regression works while being kicked by a guard?, if so, it might be good to use the assasin and the jailer to kick gens since survivors can repair it while it is being kick
I like using Legion with Ruin, Fuming Mixtape, and Never Sleep Pills. 200% gen regression during 20 seconds of Frenzy. And the regression continues as you get hits with Frenzy. Combine this with Thana, Third Seal, and Pentimento to have blind survivors looking for totems becuase they are doing gens 50% slower!
Where should I go on a trip to Spain? This is for May 2025, im thinking of combining a 2 week trip with Spain and Florence, Italy. I definitely want to see Madrid, any other ideas?
I would buff the numbers slightly to 125% or 150% just so it feels a little better as Ruin is mainly an early pressure tool. Taking 40 seconds just to regress 10% if a gen isn’t great and I’d like to see a little buff
I love watching otz play as Skull Merchant and Knight. Mainly bc the game still gives me tooltips for them to let me know to dc early and cancel the match. I know he's never in my lobby with those killers lmao
The problem isn't with ruin, it's the fact that you can to lose it literally 30 seconds into the match, beacuse bhvr thinks "behind a single blade of grass right next to the surivors spawn location" = hidden
My amazing friends gifted me for my birthday today the Stranger Things and Chucky packs. I'd love to know which builds are good for Demogorgon and Chucky. Continue your great work on making DBD an amazing game, despite it's flaws 😅
Hey Otz, what's your thoughts on the AI of Dead by Daylight? As a stealth killer, the AI detects us even when we are undetectable (like the terror radius is still visible to them even when in that state). Should BHVR have like a gauge of the difficulty of the AI given to you depending on the position of your MMR or in a custom match?
I think bots are in a "generally" okay state as a filler when someone crashes, but the game should definitely not depend on bots being a replacement for players. Ideally we shouldn't have a game where everyone wants to quite at the first sign of inconvenience.
Since the updates i have been disconnecting sometimes. So i think its not always an intentional dc. The devs really fd the game hard it needs some time to recover.

playing knight is like forcing yourself to eat a bad flavour of ramen cz you want something different in your life
Playing sm is like eating sh1t
When did knight hurt your feelings 😂😂
@@mcahtme2977 I love knight and everything about him but his gameplay sucks, so many bugs it’s insane
@@perf1de37me reading this comment after having just bought him 🗿
Few killers make use of Ruin as well as Knight does, IMO.
If they get 3 Gens while you are still in your first chase you absolutly have other instead of ruin
@Luna.Tenebra I'm probs being stupid 😂 but what do you mean with this tweet? I'm probs just reading it wrong. XD
@@callumlong1521 nah I worded it weird. Im saying that if your first chase takes enough time that the survivors are able to do 3 Gens then ruin isnt the Problem, the Problem is that you should end your chases quicker
3 gens first chase is a you problem
Ruin and surveillance were my power couple perks starting out, so much potential info for them
00:20 seenzes and mutes mic just in time dam we also got our ears blessed
As a brutal strength enjoyer i love ruin. it allows me to focus on chase (the fun part) as i don't have to worry about every gen. ruin is not as strong as something like pop but it doesnt mean its bad and i think people dont realize it doesnt need to be
When killer has ruin its like my personal goal to get rid of it. Takes some time but its so satisfying.
1:58 Otz you jinxed it! Its a prophesy now in 8 months time
I gotta improve my totem spawns then. Otz's experience clearly shows.
“Hola amics, aquest és l'Otz, almenys la imitació catalana d'ell”
I literally was like "Wait, that isn't Spanish" when he read that comment out loud and I'm so happy my high school spanish didn't fail me.
Otz I don't know if you noticed, but they stealth changed devour hope. Now if survivor deli/kobi you still get stack. Good QOL tbh.
(~ B or B+)
Edit: very nice video the dc was crazy ngl
I hadn't logged into DbD in about a year and a half. I saw the Knight skin and had to immediately buy it though. Same with that one gray Plague skin. Nice. I got the impression their cosmetics have been getting better recently?
Hey otz I mostly play survivor but have been playing more and more killer lately and was just wondering what your thoughts on this build are. I have been playing it on Chucky but a little on the xenomorph but was overall looking to see if it was a good build or not, also maybe another killer you'd recommend it on other then Chucky or xenomorph
1-lethal pursuer
2-furtive chase
3-friends 'til the end
4-Rancor/pop goes the weasel
Also will listen to any comments that anyone else has🙏 there's just so many perks nowadays and otz is a crazy good killer player so I figured this is where I should come for advice since he's not live at the moment 😅
Also a couples of videos ago - "knight is bad btw"
Idk, its so funny to see ruin proof match with knight exactly xd
He is bad, it’s just ruin takes the sting out of it
For a minute I thought they updated Macmillan where skull merchants hideout is only a variant of that map now.
I think Ruin could be useful for slow and hard-to-snowball killers only
I've had a big break from DBD (like 4 years or more) and my build may be outdated, but I still can win on red ranks with it:
Billy - enduring + spirit fury + whispers + bbq/nurse's calling/etc. (enduring + spirit fury let me rush any pallet with chainsaw ez)
Huntress - shadowborn + nurse's calling + bitter murmur + huntress lullaby (want to replace with alien's perk)
Spirit - devour hope + haunted ground + nurse's calling + huntress lullaby
Huntress lullaby is not the best perk, but I think it is still better than ruin since even if it doesn't slow down gens, it forces survivors to be extremely patient while repairing, so it will make a harder time for them and they will more likely fail or pay less attention to surroundings
No way I paused at the beginning, sneezed twice, resumed and 'Otz' sneezed. We're totally linked.
2:30 wouldnt you be able to get a double hit there if you waited a little bit longer?
Congrats on the 1 mil subs 🎉🎉🎉
What program do you use to run such a convincing hologram?
This video just helped me decide the next killer im going to get to p1
Nah i can't agree, passive regression or not it's so slow and can still be taken away early unless you run undying but then your giving up two perk slots for something that can still be taken away. Better just bringing brutal strength to kick gens quick and get the 5%.
“hello friends this is the frightening abyss where this sentence exists when otz doesnt say it at the beginning of a video”
i like how all Otz videos ignoring SWF UNFAIR Advantage existance
small web format?...
“Hello friends, this is Otz. At least that’s what the police report will say”.
"Hello friends this is otz, for legal reasons"
Someone in the chat already mentioned it, but the Meg might've actually dc'ed because of the Jake. He did go for the gen before trying to pick Meg up and there's a lot of survivors who interpret that as your teammate not caring about the game, so they just leave. But that's a whole problem of it's own
2:29 question here: why didnt you go for the double hit with the guard?
As a Knight main. This whole gameplay just pissed me off lol. Especially the fact that he said the guards were useless even though he was the one who didn't place them properly
Great little editing at the begining
Otz would you understand Sardinian? Little island under Corse in Italy. Had Catalan roots
I believe they should make ruin cleanse available when survivors pop 1 or 2 gens then they can cleanse it, the devs could add like a plaything block effect on ruin for a set amount of time or set amount of gens
Dead man's switch + Hex: Ruin is literally amazing.
when the gen is blocked it stops regressing, literally anti synergy lol
@@syn4621 it is kinda double edge. often long gen-blocks makes survivor leave generators allowing ruin to regress after the unblock. this implies your applying pressure to the team and continuously hooking.
Is this a shelter woods without the skull merchant base?
"Hello friends, this is Otz, but thats what they all say"
I completely understand the DC. Would you rather bleed out on the ground for 3 minutes or wait 45 seconds from the DC penalty?
Love seeing my favorite killer be played great game otz
Ruin is fine but extremely situational and more importantly unreliable because of how slow basekit regression is and it IS a hex after all.
It also has anti synergy with gen kicking perks until it's gone, so while pop can be used afterwards to replace ruin. It's usually better to just pick a chase/aura reading perk, especially ones that have synergy with the killer and/or their add-ons (like coup for Wesker)
I used ruin on nemi for a while with the same idea as knight with guards, but you cannot control zombies besides minor buffs from add-ons.
If so would stop Surge and Pain Res and the like
I always loved ruin and im happy it doesn't go away when someone dies. The fact that it auto kicks gen is insanely strong.
does ruin regression works while being kicked by a guard?, if so, it might be good to use the assasin and the jailer to kick gens since survivors can repair it while it is being kick
Why does Ruin all of the sudden not go away after someone dies? Just BHVR coding things? Shadow buff?
It is not shadow buff.
It was pretty explicit buff a few patch notes ago
I like using Legion with Ruin, Fuming Mixtape, and Never Sleep Pills. 200% gen regression during 20 seconds of Frenzy. And the regression continues as you get hits with Frenzy. Combine this with Thana, Third Seal, and Pentimento to have blind survivors looking for totems becuase they are doing gens 50% slower!
Does Ruin not trigger gen blocking? Is it because it counts as a tiny amount of regression per instance, rather than one big instance of regression??
It's cool to see that you know so many languages! Do you also speak Galician?
Hex: Ruin + Surveillance is a great combo; I particularly like it as The Artist.
Where should I go on a trip to Spain? This is for May 2025, im thinking of combining a 2 week trip with Spain and Florence, Italy. I definitely want to see Madrid, any other ideas?
Are you still doing the hardcore survivor series?
Otz too strong had to nerf his sneeze
I would buff the numbers slightly to 125% or 150% just so it feels a little better as Ruin is mainly an early pressure tool. Taking 40 seconds just to regress 10% if a gen isn’t great and I’d like to see a little buff
I love watching otz play as Skull Merchant and Knight. Mainly bc the game still gives me tooltips for them to let me know to dc early and cancel the match.
I know he's never in my lobby with those killers lmao
Bro predicted the pain res/pop nerf
I think the perfect way to nerf survivors without breaking the game is to give them a separate object that is needed to leave the trail,
Yeah cause killers have high 60s and 70s kill rates , survivors need a nerf . Tell me you suck without telling me you suck
@@jilujoilujiut2165 you are definitely a child
The problem isn't with ruin, it's the fact that you can to lose it literally 30 seconds into the match, beacuse bhvr thinks "behind a single blade of grass right next to the surivors spawn location" = hidden
Congrats on 1M subscribers Otz!!
The ChupiCam is now officially required for all future streams
My amazing friends gifted me for my birthday today the Stranger Things and Chucky packs. I'd love to know which builds are good for Demogorgon and Chucky. Continue your great work on making DBD an amazing game, despite it's flaws 😅
1:59 as a singularity main I cried
I come from the future: They nerfed Pain Res and Pop.
A.I are giga weak, I have to tryhard af to make them survive till the end.
Since the updates i have been disconnecting sometimes. So i think its not always an intentional dc. The devs really fd the game hard it needs some time to recover.
