- Hex: Ruin used to be a staple of the Killer meta for years until it eventually got nerfed and replaced by stronger perks like Pain Res and Pop. However, after several changes to the way regression works, Ruin has slowly been gaining its spot back as one of the best slowdown perks in the game. In this match, we played against very solid opponents but we got lucky enough to keep Ruin up a long time!

@obrinch1579 hi otz here. You're survivor is safe? Or is it?🤨
Hello, friends, this is unreal engine 5, at least according to all the glitches
Ruin is only bad when survivors spawn next to it, and I have to watch them cleanse it with lethal pursuer
It is bad even then. 100% regression is 4x slower than a single survivor. 180 seconds to regress a gen that is halfway done if my math is correct.
@@CaptToilet 1% regres=4sec. 100%=400sec 🤔
Truly the worst feeling
@@SoJ1uct Taken from the wiki
Tier I 50 % -0.125 c/s ~720 seconds (12 minutes)
Tier II 75 % -0.1875 c/s ~480 seconds (8 minutes)
Tier III 100 % -0.25 c/s ~360 seconds (6 minutes)
Even if my math is a bit off, you still can't deny that regression is pants.
@@CaptToilet For frame of reference, it would take a whole minute to shave off just 15 seconds of gen progress. This is assuming that survivors even stay off the gen for that long.
It's just, why would you risk taking this? A perk that will very likely get cleansed and removed from the game within the very first minute of the match, offering you absolutely nothing of value, when you could instead run other perks that are almost universally good in all situations, like Pop, or Dead Man's Pain res, or Grim Embrace? It also doesn't help that Ruin announces to the survivors that it's in play, which means survivors that are smart will start hunting for it, and get it out.

I like getting to see Otz speak Spanish or Catalan. Even other than just the cool factor, it's good practice for me.

Ruin is something that heavily displaces pressure. You spend NO time kicking generators, leaving a lot of saved time. You don’t have to make the decision between a chase and a generator. You don’t have to go back and kick a generator after hooking a survivor. Killers like Nemesis, Pig, Knight, and even Huntress benefit heavily by forcing survivors away from generators, allowing ruin to regress them.
The best part about is that it no longer goes away when you kill someone and it stacks insanely well with Pain Res & Surveillance!
The worst part of running ruin is when you use gen kicking perks like nowhere to hide and Pop with it because you forgot ruin doesnt let you kick gens LMAO
just cleanse the totem lol
exact reason why i run surge

Ruin is becoming one of my favorites again, what I love about it is that it doesn’t count towards your gen kick limit, which can be so nice in those nail biter games
it doesn’t? i thought it did that’s why i never touched it. I might just try it again.
@@DamnRizzz never noticed it once, and with the frequent regression I feel like I’d notice it if it happened.
@@DamnRizzz okay so I just did some fact checking, the gen kick counter only takes place when regression happens in an instant, such as the killer’s 5% kick, pain res, pop, etc etc. since ruin is a progressive regression it bypasses this rule! I believe oppression also works the same way by this logic, which is super cool I’ve been meaning to dust off that one
@@notgabriel8624 oppression is a great perk, the only thing dragging it down is the cooldown.
The "kick limit" is an "instance damage limit." It limits how many times you can use a perk or kick to remove gen progress. It limits the amount of times you can use Pop to reduce 30% of a gen, other perks that remove progress from a gen, and how many times you can use a kick or guard (for knight) to reduce a gen by 5%. Ruin doesn't apply because it doesn't straight up remove progress, but rather causes the gen to regress when not being worked by a survivor until cleansed.
That knight skin is SICK, I really want it. Especially the helmet
REAL I really love moths so when I saw that it was a moth themed skin I was so happy :)
So excited to see both a Ruin video AND a Knight video from you! Ruin + Surveillance is a perk combo that I've always had fun using, and even more so on Knight! He is such a good killer for managing things from a distance, so the mix of info and regression works perfectly for him!
I think when knight is actually working and not buggy it’s really fun gameplay to play as and to watch.
I was about to comment that this might be the first time I actually enjoyed watching a Knight match. Considering it didn't appear to be a super buggy match for once.

ruin+surveillance+thrilling tremors is a really fun combo because each time you trigger thrilling tremors you get full information on every gen since when thrilling tremors ends all gens will start regressing, therefore theyre either white or yelllow immediately, or red if survivors worked on it through thrilling tremors

@@perf1de37me reading this comment after having just bought him 🗿
This is actually very close to my go to build for Knight. Ruin, Surveilance, Gearhead, Coup, with the same addons. If survivors leave gens, Ruin/Surveilance gives info, if they stay, Gearhead gives info. I tend to look around for survivor auras while chasing so I know where the rest of the team is. Then send guards as often as possible like after a down to keep everyone busy like Otz was doing in the video. And Coup is there for the instances where the guards can't or don't help you. This build has made Knight pretty much my favorate killer to play, despite Knight being... in the state he currently is.
As a Knight Main, I hope he gets some love. I've waited over 500 days 💀
The day I see Knight in a patch notes, the day dbd might improve.
Surveillance on Knight is seriously nutty, my build is Surveilance, Lethal Pursuer, STBFL, Nowhere to Hide, idk why people don't talk about this more
But why gearhead? Isn't that kind of why you have surveilance in the first place? A chase perk might be more useful
@@Soapromancer From my experience, it actually complements the Ruin/Surveilance combo quite well. Gearhead activates when you hit a survivor and stays active for 30 seconds, which is pretty long. And as the counterplay to Knight is generally holding W, you can often find opportunities to do a quick 360 to scope any auras.
Gearhead complements Ruin/Surveilance as the latter does nothing if survivors stay on gens, which they should be doing while you're chasing other survivors. If there's a survivor who just does a gen from 0 to 100% in one go, you'd never know from Ruin/Surveilance, so Gearhead fills in those gaps. Gearhead is generally also always active when you're abke to act on the information it gives. It's often active right before a down, meaning you can check for auras once you down a survivor, after which it activates again, giving you info while you carry the survivor (an optimal time to look around), and then go to the best gen after you've hooked.
Lastly, Ruin can be cleansed, Gearhead cannot. A big reason Ruin/Surveilance why is such a good combo for Knight is that you never have to choose between having a guard kick a gen or chase a survivor. Once Ruin is cleansed, you need to put a lot more resources keeping gens regressing if you want to get your info from Surveilance. Gearhead just always works, which allows you to keep pressure on survivors instead of gens without sacrificing info.
Few killers make use of Ruin as well as Knight does, IMO.
Also, I haven't heard anyone speaking Catalan in well over a decade. Gave me brain whiplash you did.
(I don't speak it, but a friend learned some in preparation after being chosen as an exchange student)
Otz! A little knight tip: if you want always consistent gen snipes with guards, you just need to put a guard (doesn't really matter which one) a bit further (forward) from the gen so that if survivors try to escape it they'll just run it to them ( and even if they're going the opposite way than they're still on a guard's patrol path, so it doesn't matter). With this trick I always catch survivors of gens. Anyways, nice video, keep up the grind!)
Literally every game with knight 3:41. The minions missing a person in front of them if you don't have map of the realm. Or the minions walking around a pallet instead of going through it with the changed AI.
First off, he brings Map of the Realm. Secondly, he put that guard still bit too far. Otz should have placed it exactly at the gen rather than in front of it. Since there's a chance the trees or rocks can block the guards' detection
As much as background player/champion of light makes me want to get Mori'd irl, it is really funny to watch injured survivor's crab walk at unprecedented speed, while aiming their light around, making noises of pain and anguish the whole time. It feels liek a very strange interpretive art piece
Congrats on the 1 mil subs 🎉🎉🎉

Ruin's fantastic. IMO, I think it's in a decent spot now. It's not overly destructive like it was at 200%, it's not too weak like when it would vanish after a Survivor died (though I think there's an argument to be had that when a typical match is down to three Survs, it's tilted strongly in the Killer's favor (depending on the board state, of course))... it's not bad. I've been using it on Skull Merchant in an all hex build, and it's served well (thanks Pixel Bush), and last night me and friends got rinsed by a Plague on Swamp because we couldn't find it. We got down to one gen left before the game was over, and we spent a ton of time looking for it (and I think that's where we went wrong. We made a bad choice as a team).
It was never too strong, since it was a Hex.
2:30 wouldnt you be able to get a double hit there if you waited a little bit longer?
"Hello friends this is otz, for legal reasons"
No way I paused at the beginning, sneezed twice, resumed and 'Otz' sneezed. We're totally linked.
Ruin and surveillance were my power couple perks starting out, so much potential info for them
I love surveillance. My main build before the (second) Ruin nerf included Ruin/Surveillance, and on any chase killers after the nerf it was Jolt/Pain Res/Surveillance. It saves an incredible amount of time and drastically boosts your map pressure. Being able to completely focus on chases with no downside *and* know exactly where the survivors you need to pressure are while still having a top tier slow down effect at the cost of 2 perk slots (3 if you used Undying) was insane and unfair. The speed nerf was very necessary for curbing 99'ed gens going to zero because the killer checked on you. That can still happen, but your team can rotate to finish it and not lose quite as much time. I could even approve of an effect like Overcharge, where it starts a bit slower than normal and ramps up to standard speed after enough time. The bigger thing for me with Ruin was actually it disappearing on it's own after a kill. I understand why they did it, and I don't even disagree with it, but the late game was always the time I needed reliable information for very precise macro the most (especially with split gens), and getting someone out was my sigh of relief, and the only potential I had to get back into a losing game at 1 gen. There were scenarios where killing someone almost felt like it somehow made my position even more dire. Admittedly this wouldn't be as big of a problem if I didn't crutch on Surveillance so much that I forgot how to play the game without it, and I know Ruin was still quite good, but I stopped using it because it didn't fill my preferred niche as well.
Now that the self-cleanse effect is gone, it feels really nice again.
knight might be my favorite killer concept atm, i hope that the devs can fix all of his bugs and make him one of the stronger killers in the game bc he is so engaging and cool
Great little editing at the begining
Also a couples of videos ago - "knight is bad btw"
Idk, its so funny to see ruin proof match with knight exactly xd
He is bad, it’s just ruin takes the sting out of it
Oh, Ruin stays up even after a kill now?

“hello friends this is the frightening abyss where this sentence exists when otz doesnt say it at the beginning of a video”
To be honest you had best case scenario in this game. Other cases that perk could be gone in 30< seconds (or last decently long) and you played one of the best users for ruin as well. I will say that it can be strong and is good overall with all things being considered. (~ B or B+)
Edit: very nice video the dc was crazy ngl
Ruin is usually bad personally. For example, if someone starts by the totem or if they get 3 gens done in one chase or if they actually cleanse the totem. However, if they cleanse the totem then there's obviously no use with the perk anymore plus if it's a good team then ruin won't matter
If they get 3 Gens while you are still in your first chase you absolutly have other instead of ruin
@Luna.Tenebra I'm probs being stupid 😂 but what do you mean with this tweet? I'm probs just reading it wrong. XD
@@callumlong1521 nah I worded it weird. Im saying that if your first chase takes enough time that the survivors are able to do 3 Gens then ruin isnt the Problem, the Problem is that you should end your chases quicker
3 gens first chase is a you problem
@Luna.Tenebra ye I get that. But say you chase someone leave chase to pressure gens, chase someone else then 3 gens are done during the 2nd chase, then it's kinda not the killers fault cause they tried to apply pressure. This doesn't apply to the S tier killers for obvious reasons but B and lower it applies alot to
Hey otz this is friends!
Love seeing my favorite killer be played great game otz
This video just helped me decide the next killer im going to get to p1
My hypothesis about the "map offering=DC" phenomenon is that whoever is bringing a map offering may be the type who needs predictability for good execution, because map offerings remove the most RNG; which means that they may also be the sort who are the most easily frustrated when things don't go according to plan.
11:42 "Bluffing skills increased"
For a minute I thought they updated Macmillan where skull merchants hideout is only a variant of that map now.
I had to reel & hit 5 survivors today as deathslinger. I didn't check my perks. I'm awful at deathslinger, so my main goal was to reel, hit, and forget about hooks.
Match starts and I find two straight away. They took the absolute piss out of me. It was shameful, embarrassing, I wasn't having fun 😅
Gen after gen was getting done and there was one left to do. Then suddenly I downed the Kate. I'm not an awful killer I'm an awful deathslinger and I proceeded to beat the crap out of them. But hex:ruin bought me the time I needed to even up the score. 😊
They lost, I won. And I got my 5 reeled & hit 😊😊

Dead man's switch + Hex: Ruin is literally amazing.
when the gen is blocked it stops regressing, literally anti synergy lol
@@syn4621 it is kinda double edge. often long gen-blocks makes survivor leave generators allowing ruin to regress after the unblock. this implies your applying pressure to the team and continuously hooking.
2:29 question here: why didnt you go for the double hit with the guard?
As a Knight main. This whole gameplay just pissed me off lol. Especially the fact that he said the guards were useless even though he was the one who didn't place them properly
When killer has ruin its like my personal goal to get rid of it. Takes some time but its so satisfying.
I gotta improve my totem spawns then. Otz's experience clearly shows.

2:00 yeah. it also really bothers me that there’s no punishment like that on blight or nurse lol.
I can't get into DBD as it's too complex without much for explanation and any build id want as a new player takes FOREVER to grind for.
I really wish I could enjoy the game more, but as it stands, atleast Otz' videos are well put together and easy to understand, and 21% of the content in them isn't locked behind a paywall.
i feel you. it really feels like that for super long before you start unlocking some perks you finally wanted for so long. though, maybe you already knew since this was three weeks ago, but there was a 3x bloodpoints week, and there's gonna be a 2x bloodpoints one again around vecna's release. With that bonus alone i got literally a million points in just an afternoon. that's 2 full 0 to 50 killers/survivors for very little time investment. and the new system isn't nearly as grindy as before too, what i remember is my own and other's suffering from back in 2018 lol

Hey Otz, what's your thoughts on the AI of Dead by Daylight? As a stealth killer, the AI detects us even when we are undetectable (like the terror radius is still visible to them even when in that state). Should BHVR have like a gauge of the difficulty of the AI given to you depending on the position of your MMR or in a custom match?
I think bots are in a "generally" okay state as a filler when someone crashes, but the game should definitely not depend on bots being a replacement for players. Ideally we shouldn't have a game where everyone wants to quite at the first sign of inconvenience.
A.I are giga weak, I have to tryhard af to make them survive till the end.
Someone in the chat already mentioned it, but the Meg might've actually dc'ed because of the Jake. He did go for the gen before trying to pick Meg up and there's a lot of survivors who interpret that as your teammate not caring about the game, so they just leave. But that's a whole problem of it's own
I always loved ruin and im happy it doesn't go away when someone dies. The fact that it auto kicks gen is insanely strong.
