It`s supposedly only added icon that being imported on template to your production build. Meaning smaller bundled size. Once, i naively add entire fortawesome icon and it add 500KB to 1MB to my production build. It's actually matter since my customer uses mobile connection.
Yes, you can pretty much access anything. Of course if you're using something with a link inside of your SVG tag or something pretty tricky in terms of CSS selector it may be more difficult. But mostly yes. Pairs well with TailwindCSS btw. 👍🏻
BTW as of Vue 3.2.13+ @vue/compiler-sfc is included in Vue by default. Nice video just what I needed!

You can actually do it with unplugin-icons, you can write custom rules to load custom svg icons.

All components support custom icons. There are also tools for cleaning up those icons.
