  • This video tells where I am at 6 weeks after having my prostate removed. I talk about PSA levels post surgery and what it means to have an undetected PSA result. I also give an update on my progress with incontinence and erectile dysfunction. All in all not a bad update 6 weeks post-surgery but there are certainly things that I continue to monitor to make sure that I remain cancer-free.

    Hi.thanks for sharing your story. My husband got diagnosed with prostate cancer last week. His Gleason score is 5+4=9. His PSA is 4.7. We are waiting for the PSMA pet scan result now. I am anxious very much..We have an urologist appointment in 10days but before that appointment l want to get some sort of assurance as l am devastated every day . Do you think my husband is going to be okay?

      I wish him all the best and so sorry that you facing this diagnoses as well. My only advise is to find a doctor you trust. A good medical team is so important. Hearing the word "cancer" is devastating but check out survivability rates. They should give some hope and pease of mind until you can figure out next steps. Keep fighting and best wishes.

    believing with you that the numbers are just a result of such a high pre-op level and that by the next test you'll see a drop :) TFS much love!!

    Hey Chris, I watched most of your series this evening and it's been really informative and mentally helpful as I'm staring down the barrel of my own biopsy this Friday. Thanks for putting this all together, and I hope you're doing well. == R

      My thoughts go out to you and your family. I hope your biopsy procedure goes well. In my own experience, the biopsy procedure went better than expected. I was very anxious going into it but found the side effects to be minimum. The important things is that you will have the answers you need following the procedure. Whatever the results if you need an support or have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out. Best wishes!!

      @@billlyon9591 bill, I’m going down your rout. My psa is 3.8, Gleason 4+3, and a family history of prostate cancer. Is the operation pure hell? God I’m scared about this dam thing

    Hi Chris. I am in week #4 post prostatectomy. PSA was 6.3, then fell to 4.77 after 3 months. Diagnosis was 4+7 intermediate level. Like you, I will be holding my breath as the first of 3 PSA test will be in January. Your post is very helpful. Thanks

    Chris I wanted to ask you this question a few weeks ago but I forgot. What do you do at night when you're sleeping as far as the incontinence goes. I pee a whole lot at night and wondering what do I do to stop my bed from being drenched in urine!! Would I have to set my alarm every 2 hours to wake up and change my diaper?

    Hi Chris just checking on you buddy, hope you are on the mend 100% and doing well. Thanks again for posting up the videos I think they’re very helpful. I am almost 60 days postop and doing better every week but it’s a long journey.

      John Montgomery thanks for checking in. I have been doing much better and just recorded an update and will post soon. Continence is no longer an issue and I am thrilled. Still working through post OP ED but making progress. Hope your recovery is going well. Stay strong!

      I wish you all the best next week. This was my first major surgery so there was a lot of apprehension going into the procedure. Thanks to great doctors and nurses, looking back there was nothing to worry about in regards to the surgery itself. Stay strong and think positive thoughts. If I can provide any support please let me know. You got this!

    Hi Chris just want to let you know that my surgery went well and think they caught it very early, was a psa 4.59 at peak, so the doctor here in Greenville, SC said it did not show anything on the margins or in the lymph nodes he removed for inspection. Don’t have the pathology report as yet but feel hopeful. Your videos surely helped me prepare for today so thank you very much sir. All the best, hope you are progressing well.

      I am so happy to hear that the surgery went well. It is even better news to hear about your margins and lymph nodes! The hardest part is over so now you rest and focus on recovery. I am so glad that my videos could be of some help. Stay strong and I look forward to more updates.

      Thanks Chris...you were right, a clean shower on day 2 post op most welcome. Right now slowly eating light foods to get the digestive track going again. Not doing a lot of extended walking, just a little around the house, I’m not a runner but just giving things time to heal up without too much stress. I was going to the gym a lot before surgery and that has really helped, not just The ability to tolerate the surgery but iin the recovery.

      @chrishartley6966  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Keep it up man! Recovery is a long process so rest and let your body heal. Start walking as soon as you feel ready. I found it really helped.

      Thanks Chris making some good progress... this is day five after surgery... just a note to anyone reading it took right at 36 hours to pass the first significant gas from the surgery and four days from surgery start to have the first solid bowel movement. I was given Colace tablets which I took one every 12 hours and then a Senikot fiber laxative pill and eventually things started to move but I would be very patient and let nature take it’s course. Our bodies are wonderfully made and I certainly have a new appreciation for our indoor rather than “outdoor plumbing” like the catheter. The catheter will become the most significant bother as your body heals but it will be out within a week or so. My email is Bertoneman@aol.com if anyone has any private questions, happy to share my experience. By the way, got the pathology report back and I had three of 12 cores positive and they noted that I had less than10% of cancer in the Prostate which was removed whole and everything else was negative including margins so I am very optimistic.

    I was playing ice hockey 6 weeks post-op! Tips: kegels kegels and more kegels! Also, were you given a VED for post-op use? Stay positive and patience is key! I'll hope for the undetectable psa as well.

    • @chrishartley6966
      @chrishartley6966  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      lifelovesong I know what you mean about kegels. I am doing at least 100 every day. What is VED? That is a new one for me. Thanks so much for your well wishes.

    • @lifelovesong
      @lifelovesong 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      VED = vacuum erection device. The key to keeping the male penis alive is the natural night time erections and blood flow into your penis. The VED a.k.a. penis pump, helps with just that it's imperative that you bring blood flow to the penis and create an erection at least 3 times a week to fill those penile tissues with blood. Ask your urologist about it. I'm almost 6 months post-op.

      lifelovesong just curious what your experience with incontinence was post surgery. I am 6 weeks post surgery and have seen improvement but can't wait for the day that I have control.

    • @lifelovesong
      @lifelovesong 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chris Hartley I am thankful to say that I was fully continent the day the catheter came out which was 9 days.. the only time I had minor leakage was when I would squat down suddenly lift my legs suddenly or take a slapshot when I was playing hockey. But today there really is none of that I would suggest taking a break between doing your kegels to let that floor muscle recover and strengthen.

    • @lifelovesong
      @lifelovesong 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chris Hartley also, to this day I still occasionally stop and start my urine flow at least three times while urinating to strengthen the floor muscle. Works best in the morning!
