A great video that brings back memories of when I used to work down there. As for the metal statute of a man you mentioned in Abertillery, it is a memorial to the mining accident at the Six Bells Colliery, which happened on 28 June 1960, killing 45 miners. Only three miners underground at that time survived. As you mentioned the Big Pit at Blaenavon, I will mention that the last time I visited that site and was leaving there, there was a news report of a plane crash in America. By the time I had reached Brynmawr, there was another crash reported. The date was 9-11. It is said that people remember where they were when they heard important news. I was in the Welsh Valleys.

Further to my comment about my movements on 9-11, for the London bombings on 7-7, I was in the Welsh ex-mining town of Maesteg, just east of Port Talbot, and I remember hearing the initial reports of an incident on the London Underground, and the local services saying that it was an electrical fault. Having grown up in 70s Birmingham, and knowing what had happened in the city back then, I remember I was virtually screaming at the radio saying it was a bomb and not an electrical issue. As the day went on, I was proved correct. Finally, on 12 November 2001 (not long after 9-11), I was again in South Wales, this time in Bridgend, when American Airlines Flight 587 crashed into a residential area of New York. This time it was pilot error/plane defect, as it had taken off behind a 747 and had got caught in its turbulence, and the Airbus A300 that was used for this flight had difficulty in handling the situation, added to the co-pilot's aggression in trying to fly through it. People may be happy to hear that I no longer work for the same company, so don't go to Wales anymore, so hopefully no more bad luck from me.

I'm familiar with the place names like Brynmawr,Rassau from travelling up the heads of the valleys road to Ebbw Vale fairly often with work, but never actually been to look around..more familiar with places further south from there where some of my relatives live.
