I really want to try a Tedder in this part of the country. Good video Ross
Ross, I needed a Tedder and could not afford one so, I built my own frame ,used wheel and axle off a old sprayer, put a belt on it to drive from a wheel by adding a v belt shive ( after calculating the speed I wanted to travel and drive the Tedder wheel so many revolutions over a certain distance ) the Tedder wheel was the entire feed basket from a mower/ conditioner including the oblong ring that changes the angle of the reel fingers. ( I wish I still had at least a photo of it but I don’t ) it was 7’ wide and ( bragging here ) it worked fantastic ! It would sweep in to the mowed hay gently stoop it up about 2’ and gently dump it to the ground in a fluffy wind row beautifully. Other farmers used it and were quite impressed by how gentle it was on alfalfa ( keeping the leaves intact ) said I should patten it. I really couldn’t due to the fact it was already made out of other pieces of other manufactured parts. This was back in 1980. Where there is a Will there is a way. 👍👍👍🙏🏽🇺🇸✌🏻😎
You’re getting so close to 10,000 subscribers buddy congratulations you should be there hopefully today
Hello from Tasmania. That Tedder looks like my old fahr centipede. Thanks Kerry
I don't know much about a tedder, but I can see it isn't going to be a walk in the park. Your snip was a funny comparison, I like what you did there, funny stuff. Thanks Ross, I hope you have a good evening!
Good video Ross. Seems you got another good project there. Looks like another challenge. I can't wait to see you pull this one off. But hey when your done it'll be like a brand- new machine. Good luck with this one.
I never thought about the direction of spin of the 2 middle baskets on a 4 basket tedder. Interesting! I used to have one of those cheap Italian-made 4 basket tedders - what a piece of sh!t it was!
Good luck. Usually they have one gear box that can be used both ways. Saves on castings.
Ross, I know there are pto reversers on the market. Don't know how much but it might be worth looking into.
I thought about that too. Maybe using hydraulic motor to drive it but now we’re getting too fancy. lol.
Ross it might have been easier to make your tractor engine run the other way.
😂😂😂😂😂😂. You crack me up ! Great video Ross , see ya tomorrow
At the 19 minute mark I’m guessing you had to take a Hefeweizen thinking medicine break to process everything this project is going to take 😂
What a job, whew.
Sorry about raining on your parade Ross. I was thinking about it to and I'm guessing they tried to make as many parts the same between the different size tedders so I thought flipping the ring gear might be possible. I never took one apart though. I tedded a ton of hay with a 2 star Heston and an Oliver 60. Now we have a 4 star pequea that takes hydraulica to fold the wings and the 66 will run that 😂
Pull the pinion gear, unbolt the two tedder heads, pull the shaft out and reverse it right side to left then reassemble
Hey Ross, you get yourself into the same kind of predicaments as I seem to find myself in! I like the hyd motor idea, but you could also make it Amish and put a Honda engine on it, but it wouldn't work on Sunday! 😂😂
Good luck there hope it goes well
At least you might have some neat floatation tire assemblies to make a small spray trailer. We found many a gearbox filled with grease and even filled a few when the customer wanted to just get through this season only to find he got through many seasons after. "We will be back right after this pause."
I hope things work out curious to see how it gonna work
Ross looks like you found a 163 Tedder that if I remember correctly was made by Kuhn for NH.
Not sure if the opening on the right side of that gearbox is large enough to support the OD of the bearing on the gear? You probably would also need to flip the driven shaft end for end so the key way is in the correct position for the gear.
Interesting to see how it goes!
Flip the box over, if the mounting holes are the same.
Yep. There’s some differences so I have to take it apart to make this work.
What if you just swap the end basket gearboxes.... wouldnt that change directions?
The end isn’t a gearbox, it’s another gear and there’s teeth on top of the star. Believe me, I considered all those options before doing this 🤣🤣🤣
@@rosstheoliverman okay it was just a thought.... I really need to buy a Tedder myself.... Looking at a 2 basket H & S one myself... Haymaking sucks this year in Wisconsin and it rains and rains
You've got me curious to see if this is going to work. See you later.
I have a Oliver 430 combine do you know where I can get the sickle sections for it.
I’m sure if you take some measurements you could probably match them up at a farm store or maybe Shoup.
Or, just add the 2 missing baskets... just saying. 🤣 Good thing about salvage yards Ross, one can get a great many parts for far cheaper than dealership prices and still be in excellent shape. Anything can be done Ross, just takes patience.
Should be relatively easy if you take the one top off and put it on the other side of the raking unit
I learned something here, you can make most everything work with some effort and a little bit of swearing.😂
You're still going to have to tip your baskets lower in the front higher in the rear
Ross, one would believe it would be reversible to change it like you want then you'd have less parts from the different models. Thanks Michael
😁🤔👍👍👍
I think I could do the job a little easier than what you're doing but I'm sure when you are done it'll be working the right way hopefully you don't let us hang on this one I need to see at work
Do you have stock in the brake cleaner or are they funding your TH-cam channel 😂😂
Well it's ... apart. Sort of. Somewhat.
Hydraulic motor instead of pto and call it good! lol
I thought of that too 🤣 believe me, I considered every option before this one 🤣
Can’t you just switch the way the pto from the tractor goes
Oh dear much sadness to come with your tedder
Years ago an equipment trader friend told me " there isn't a whole lot of difference between a GOOD cheap Tedder and a JUNK cheap tedder" I have found that wisdom very true over the years.
