@@Mr2BonClay And don't you think that maybe is the fact their culture is traditionally more repressive and their relationships are very polite but cold? Or do you think that when anime didn't exist they behaved differently and then magically they all became horny and perverted?
that's the cultural difference that is difficult for other countries to let it pass. the second scene is supposed to be a surprise for her coming of age ceremony and Cobra sneaked in.
I typically have a very acute creep radar but I remember watching the bathroom scene for the first time a couple years ago and for some reason it never crossed my mind that Cobra could be looking at Vivi. I’d simply assumed he got the nosebleed from looking at Nami. I find it crazy now that you pointed it out, that it didn’t occur to me how weird that scenario was.
Im not a fan of fanservice too. It's a weird thing especially watching shonen anime as a 28-year old female 😂 I mostly just ignore those when the story is just good.
Thats why we're here... some is silly, some is bad, some is ridicolous and very rarely its boring.. but when One Piece hits, it hits like no other. Edit: Just a suggestion: If you're at the end of an arc, maybe consider doing a three parter? That wraps it up nicely :) OH and in next episode there is one scene that you will ABSOLUTELY hate: It's anime only. Thats all i am going to say. Just Toei doing Toei things
Imagine judging the most tame non sexual shounen ever made from the early 2000s by the standards of 20 years later. Like why do people think the past has to be judged for simply being the past. The entire ppint of being progrrssive is that you had to progress from somewhere.
Honestly at this point you can do like me and literally just pretend pell is dead and ignore every scene hes in so that the finale of the arc is not ruined 😂 cant wait to see the comment section from the next video
its going to be a great next episode... you are forever goated for so many takes lol. also i think many of the people with issues need to remember a key thing: every reactor has had different lives and by 0 means is Nerdy Wrong... Doctorine and Hiriluk are absolutely not good parents. they loved chopper no doubt, but they were abusive and he was right to say that. hes also not the only reactor ive known whos said that. Nerdy is forever "the guy new cosplayers get introduced to so they know who a safe and friendly face is" because Nerdy is someone i could see being supportive of anyone who feels uncomfortable at a convention or event. his takes on the stuff with Cobra and all that is entirely on point.
Cobra was there to peep on Nami… not Vivi… but it is weird that he was willing to show his daughter to the boys so he was not the only one there. (Btw latter Oda kind off says Luffy shouldn’t be there, he ended up tagging along Usopp
As a woman, who used to watch lots of anime, I agree about being a better role model! I don't like most fanservice in anime, as it disregards consent. You can see how it affects those in anime fandoms, who degrade female characters to just "waifus to own". I do wonder their views about real women. It hurts me more when Oda says it's for young boys, YOUNG BOYS. Who don't know better. Even when you're a woman, loving a female character is very controversial. So MANY people view Vivi as just a nuisance, crybaby, weakling. I don't see the reason to disprove that here, this comment is not about that. My anonymous comment under a video of my female favorite character's was "I don't need subtitles, I know all lines of hers by heart" it got popular and the replies were "Simp" cause obviously, you can't love a female character's personality, obviously you just want her as a gf. No, it's not Japan's "culture". And culture can change in time, it's a fluid thing. Many adults in japan see most anime as a cheap type of entertainment, meanwhile works of Studio Ghibli gets international praise from all ages. Isn't that true? Guess why? I'm just, tired. I don't see a point in expressing my views just to get stoned by the masses. I'm happy to see you have a normal human pov, even if that means you take comedic scenes too seriously. I enjoy hearing about your different opinion. I too, enjoy One Piece DESPITE these scenes, not because of it. As a woman who works in entertainment, we shouldn't be excusing those ADULTS who know better, yet write for PROFIT every time and affect REAL women's lives.
28:16 the next morning thing it was OBVIOUSLY implied that Cobra had the same nightmare as Igaram (about Vivi becoming a pirate) and rushed out to check on her. Also the bloody nose was from the fall from the wall. Also they weren't seeing nothing, Nami showed herself. The only real weird thing is he showing people where to peep on his daughter.
These two episodes had the special situation of using the same voice actor for two characters (Jango and Bon Clay) with hardly any time in between. At least they did not directly interact, that would have been wild.
yea, another thing about OP is arcs often have a epilogue kind of deal that transitions into the next arc, a couple staples of how the series goes often uses the transition from one arc to another to check up on other characters, bounty posters, etc etc
Nerdy you’re wrong, it’s not comedy, it’s 100% pervyness. And it’s not about being a role-model to teenage boys it’s about sales. You have to keep in mind that this story was competing at that time to not get axed and those types of tropes sell more. It is what it is.
By the way I would recommend you watch the fillers from episode 131-143 at your own time. The latter half of the fillers aren't that great but the first few episodes are solid. 131 especially was a very nice little episode i enjoyed a lot.
28:25 We do know. He has the same exact bump as Igaram. The joke is that Igaram was replaying the exact same scene Cobra had played immediately before. It's obvious to absolutely everyone who's ever seen or read One Piece but you.
Fun fact: Oda has retconned Luffy and Chopper’s reactions to Nami’s ‘’Happiness Punch’’ saying they were ‘’just going with the flow’’. Basically confirming Luffy as Asexual and Chopper uninterested in human women.
"We Are" never really goes away. It doesn't come back as the main theme (except briefly, with the Japanese cast singing), but it comes back often. It's almost as important to the show as Luffy himself. The farewell in Alabasta, that one gets me every time. The rest of the arc is okay, and the next episode… I'm guessing you've already watched it. Sorry. And Bon Clay is a fan favorite. That's all I'm saying.
129 is a great end to the arc, and fulll of incredible moments we get Bon Clay's big sacrifice. He did some bad shit, and was involved in something very bad, but as a person he has one redeeming quality: he would never abandon a friend. "Though I may straw from the path of a man, and I may stray from the path of a woman, I will never stray from the path of a human." (it also helps that he wasn't as gleefuly terrible as the otheer baroque works agents and was consitistently shown to have good qualities beneath his attempts being a villain. I've seen WAYYYY worse attempts to redeem antagonsits) and then there's the goodbye scene. After a lot of misdirection, its finally laid down: Vivi isn't going sailing. She's already achieved her goal of saving alabasta, and her treasure IS alabasta, it just wouldn't make sense for her to go sailing and leave it all behind. And thus, all she wants to do is ask her friends if they truly would call her friend, if they'd ever want to see her again. That's when we get one of the like top five or ten most ICONIC scenes in one piece: everyone raising their arms silently to vivi, showing her the crosses on their arms used to get past Bon Clay's clone clone fruit. A symbol of the hardships they faced on this adventure, and a symbol of their deep bond. They don't NEED to tell her with words, because they have enough proof of their bond already. of course, its not over JUST yet, we still have an epilogue to get through and some marines to escape from.
Nobody nails the big moments like one piece. I’ll be very curious about your take on the next arc. It is not for everyone but lots of stuff that gears toward your tastes.
I sympathize with you on the Alabasta arc. I started binging the anime shortly before OPLA dropped and kept going. The Alabasta Arc (especially the big fight) was one of the points where I struggled to stick with it. No spoilers, but there are others in the future. One in particular made me take a break from November until just about a week ago. I'm not going to say how far I got, but I'd made it through a particularly rough arc and was honestly unsure if I wanted to keep going at all. I'd been watching another channel's reactions and had overtaken the point they were at some time in October. I decided to wait until they caught up to where I was to either restart or drop One Piece entirely. Luckily for me, the arc I'd held off starting began strong, so I'm moving forward again. The thing is... I've seen hints that there are more runs in the future that might be slogs you have to push through to get to the good bits. And pretty much all long-running media has those. The question becomes "is the payoff for getting through this worth it?" I've seen suggestions that for One Piece it is. I've experienced some arcs where the answer was "absolutely, yes!", but that's not _always_ been the case. It's also had its share of "well, at least we're past _that_ and can move on to something new..." I suspect 130 _might_ be a breaking point for you. I can tell you there's definitely more good stuff after it, but at the same time, I wouldn't blame you for saying "Nope! I'm out." If that happens, you might consider taking a break instead of completely dropping it. That worked for me (so far, anyway).
(Non-spoiler). You may be overestimating how difficult it would be to keep Bon Clay, or indeed any Devil Fruit user, in prison. Don't forget that Crocodile has already shown that the technology exists to construct cages that turn off Devil Fruit Powers and drain the energy of a Devil Fruit user on contact.
Buggy and Alvida showed in Loguetown, as well as Smoker and Luffy in Alabasta that there is technology to arrest and keep imprisioned Devil Fruit users.
I think its him showing that he is still a regular human with only King labelled in his name. He is still vulnerable and acts childish with the right group. Its like all of us. And he is looking at nami.
None of that flies for me at all. He doesn’t need to be a perv to show he is human. And when he sticks his head over the wall he has no idea whether or not his own teenage daughter is going to be completely naked. It’s weird and bad
I really love Bon chan character so much... He just follow Crocodile bcs he is the boss but since no more crocodile he follow his own stance that friends is everything 😭😭😭 Edit: One thing about one piece... They give us roller coaster mood sometime the episode disturbing me so much but the end of the arc the story gonna be so freaking good😂😂
Bon-chan is a devil fruit user, so just put some seastone handcuffs on him and you are good. It not only removes his ability but makes him weaker over all. That pretty much explains why the marines have jails at all :D
"if you just took the creepy shit out, it's such a good scene" There's a few of those in one piece. Few and far between, but it's worth noting. I feel pretty much the same as you do, they detract from the show, and it's a shame they exist.
Cobra was peeping on Nami specifically, it is still very fucking weird... but the joke is meant to be how Nami knocks them out with her Happiness Punch. The Vivi being there bit isn't meant to be what is focused on, but i get why you do!
@@Syco07-pm3iz 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 It’s not weird that way at all. Why are fucking people so offended at stuff being joked about like it. You want to lead a org about censoring stuff like this all the time. Jc
Weird stuff aside these are 2 really good eps, Vivi's goodbye was so well done! I just know he's going to be pissed af in the next ones though, as most of us were😅
I love this show, but completely understand why you feel the way you do. Even tho there are some not so great parts I do hope you continue watching. It is worth it and think you're being smart with skipping all the filler episodes.
Yeah Cobra has no real excuse for the bathscene and not many people like it understandably. Luffy was explained that he just copies Usopp because our pirate king is weak to peer pressure 😂😂 But that fanservice was kinda blegh imo. Same as Bon-chan being a charicature of transpeople which was prominent in the early 2000's feels icky (even tho Bon-chan is one of my favourite characters). It's just one of the things that did not age well
I'm so excited for you to start Jaya and Skypiea. I honestly believe from a storytelling perspective these are among the strongest and best arcs in the whole show and I can't wait to see what you think of this arc.
That's really interesting those arcs are probably towards the bottom for me. It felt like a video game dlc awkwardly inserted in the middle. Where they just say "hey here is this new place to go unrelated to anything else" and it felt inconsequential at the time. Not that I didn't enjoy it cause I'm just enjoying the ride this crew is on wherever it goes.
There is manga Jaya/Skypiea and anime Jaya/Skypiea and they are waaaay different. Skypiea is one of my favorite arcs, but I can't watch the anime version. This is the point where I would say to someone go watch the One pace version, because it drags so much. I think this is the first time the anime caught up to the manga, though I'm not sure how I know that.
i will say, while there are the rocky moments pre-time skip super early on, i promise you oda only gets better and better at his craft. you're about halfway to some god tier stuff
Yeah I'm with ya on the fanservice/ pervy humor stuff.. it's the only thing I don't like about One piece! I don't even mind the pacing issue at some arcs or the fake-out deaths but this stuff sheesh..😓 Luckily it doesn't happen often and is usually short. I just roll my eyes once or twice and it'll be over by then😅 But congrats on reaching the end of Alabasta! Onwards to more adventure!
I entirely agree with you about fanservice. Hate it. All of it. Nudity and sexy stuff that fits with the story and isn't creepy? Hell yes. But not this. Unfortunately, Oda is on record as personally being a bit of a perv, so this is just an honest expression of his, and not something that's ever likely to stop completely.
Yeah there is some weird fanservice in 90s anime. I think they put these scenes in just to get sales from hormonal teenage boys. I wouldn't think on it too much. Back then, before the internet, this was the next best thing. lol. I think modern anime tries to respect the ladies a bit more, though I'm sure there's always room to improve. One Piece has faced criticism on its depiction of women in the past. A lot of it is just old cultural norms from several decades ago that we've progressed from. I didn't think they were weird back then, but these days it does feel very out of place.
I saw a lot of comments spoiling it in the bomb ep and the next ones, but i don't know if he has someone checking the comments for spoilers before he reads them😅
@@nathandanczak7822 Have no clue what "total chucked" means, but I never said I couldn't "live with it". I just think it would be better off without it.
Seems extremely hypocritical to me that he calls it out so hard with how horny he is and all the sex jokes he makes about what he wants characters to do to him!
I feel pretty much the same way you do about fan service. To some extent, I get the idea of putting some random horniness in because you know it's expected/will sell well, and I could mostly just think "whatever" and ignore it. But I find a lot of fan service specifically involves fantasizing about situations that are extremely questionable/lack consent/push (or explicitly violate) boundaries/etc. And the shows rarely push back in any meaningful way. (A character getting mad about someone being a creep but then immediately moving on until that character creeps again is not real pushback.) I haven't really watched a lot of anime, but some of what I've seen I feel like I can't recommend to people because of weird and/or excessive fan service. Maybe the best example of this that I've seen is Seven Deadly Sins, which would be a top tier show that I would recommend regularly except for frequent SA played off as a joke. In the interest of not leaving an entirely negative comment, Children of the Whales and Mushi-Shi are shows I've watched that were extremely good and did not have fan service.
Situation in Japan with se*ual harassement is still awful in 2024 and it's reflected in the media. If its a shonen anime, you're going to be bombarded with fanservice and troublesome tropes unfortunately which one of the reasons I dislike shonen. On the other hand, sometime it's just the animation studio, lately with One Piece there have been so many instances where the manga panel isn't horny but the animation is.
Its not fanservice. Its gag comedy. Im talking classic japanese humor. Hes got a nose bleed cause of nami. Its lighthearted. Its nothing like other anime

Yeah the scene with cobra in the bathhouse creeped me out, too. But I'm not watching&reading one piece for that , it's the moments like the goodbye to Vivi that will get under your skin. And I can promise you, there are more brilliant moments than cringe one's and it's worth watching/reading.

That wraps it up nicely :)
OH and in next episode there is one scene that you will ABSOLUTELY hate: It's anime only.
Especially since he doesn’t do anything significant anyways so it’s easy to pretend he died.
The bird died, Cobra just really fast got a new one, so no one would notice
Cobra wasnt perving on his daughter, he was perving on Nami. though royalty has a long history of Incest, so i DO see why you would think that.
its going to be a great next episode... you are forever goated for so many takes lol. also i think many of the people with issues need to remember a key thing: every reactor has had different lives and by 0 means is Nerdy Wrong... Doctorine and Hiriluk are absolutely not good parents. they loved chopper no doubt, but they were abusive and he was right to say that. hes also not the only reactor ive known whos said that. Nerdy is forever "the guy new cosplayers get introduced to so they know who a safe and friendly face is" because Nerdy is someone i could see being supportive of anyone who feels uncomfortable at a convention or event. his takes on the stuff with Cobra and all that is entirely on point.
i wish he did 131 raged quit and turns off the video , for april fool, then back the next day
Cobra was there to peep on Nami… not Vivi… but it is weird that he was willing to show his daughter to the boys so he was not the only one there.
I love the farewell scene, i even have this scene as a 5 piece picture in my room :D
Its like when you're a kid and you break a lamp and your praying your folks dont find out, he is gonna be so pissed lmao
I really enjoy the reactions. It just hurts to know the bad parts overshadow everything.
It's the end of an era! The era of algorithm goddess Vivi!!!
yea, another thing about OP is arcs often have a epilogue kind of deal that transitions into the next arc, a couple staples of how the series goes often uses the transition from one arc to another to check up on other characters, bounty posters, etc etc
I remember being weirded out by cobra peeking, but i did not think much of it
Nerdy you’re wrong, it’s not comedy, it’s 100% pervyness. And it’s not about being a role-model to teenage boys it’s about sales. You have to keep in mind that this story was competing at that time to not get axed and those types of tropes sell more. It is what it is.
Fun fact
75% of one piece fans are obove 20 years old "adults"
Ye true
By the way I would recommend you watch the fillers from episode 131-143 at your own time. The latter half of the fillers aren't that great but the first few episodes are solid. 131 especially was a very nice little episode i enjoyed a lot.
28:25 We do know. He has the same exact bump as Igaram. The joke is that Igaram was replaying the exact same scene Cobra had played immediately before. It's obvious to absolutely everyone who's ever seen or read One Piece but you.
"before you goblins comment" legit made me laugh out loud, and i am not an out-loud kind of laugher even at the best of times
Definitely one of the most iconic moments in the show.
Fun fact: Oda has retconned Luffy and Chopper’s reactions to Nami’s ‘’Happiness Punch’’ saying they were ‘’just going with the flow’’. Basically confirming Luffy as Asexual and Chopper uninterested in human women.
The music at 7:23 is from the previous short movie before the main One Piece movie where everybody is dancing thanks to Jacos hypnosis. xD
129 is a great end to the arc, and fulll of incredible moments
we get Bon Clay's big sacrifice. I've seen WAYYYY worse attempts to redeem antagonsits)
and then there's the goodbye scene.
I think it’s implied that cobra came in charging in bc he thought she ran off with the strawhats 😅
Nobody nails the big moments like one piece.
I’ll be very curious about your take on the next arc. It is not for everyone but lots of stuff that gears toward your tastes.
Can you imagine Bon Clay in prison? He’ll just touch somebody and he’ll be gone. Wild thought
It's also had its share of "well, at least we're past _that_ and can move on to something new..."
I suspect 130 _might_ be a breaking point for you. I can tell you there's definitely more good stuff after it, but at the same time, I wouldn't blame you for saying "Nope! I'm out." If that happens, you might consider taking a break instead of completely dropping it. That worked for me (so far, anyway).
He almost tear up at the end lol. That ending always got me...
*Me remembering what happens next episode*
Also Me: “Oh Hell Yeah!!!”
The fact that Cobra did it the next day is because he had the same dream as Igaram and then had the same reaction.
I’m right there with you on the bathhouse scene. Cobra participating in that is just like….. wtf dude
@@eliashigham8901 well if you put it that way its weird. It's sanji's fault🤣 He infected everyone's mind 🤣🤣🤣
I really love Bon chan character so much... He just follow Crocodile bcs he is the boss but since no more crocodile he follow his own stance that friends is everything 😭😭😭
Edit: One thing about one piece... They give us roller coaster mood sometime the episode disturbing me so much but the end of the arc the story gonna be so freaking good😂😂
If you feel fatigued from the slow pacing, It's always an option to switch to One pace
I find it funny that Nerdy is wondering about Bon-chan in prison. ;)
Cobra was peeping on Nami specifically, it is still very fucking weird... but the joke is meant to be how Nami knocks them out with her Happiness Punch. The Vivi being there bit isn't meant to be what is focused on, but i get why you do!
Nahhh, fugg that
He missed the point due to overreacting.
It’s not “fucking weird”. Just you’re sensitive to it.
I guarantee most of us agree with you about the peeping stuff
Thankfully we rarely see fanservice (specially the weird kind) in the new gen shows.
I just know he's going to be pissed af in the next ones though, as most of us were😅
I hope you can make it through the next arc because the arc after that is my favorite
I love this show, but completely understand why you feel the way you do. Even tho there are some not so great parts I do hope you continue watching. It is worth it and think you're being smart with skipping all the filler episodes.
Not sure how you got the idea that Cobra was creeping on his daughter. Thats just not correct.
It’s water7 / ennis lobby when I got hooked on the one piece wagon
next eps are major lore drop so you will witness something disapointing stuff and then it will go crazy world building setup
I would like to give merit to Zoro for actually being the person not peeping on the ladies this ep lmao
More like if it's not swords or booze he just really doesn't care😅
@@bluelight17 Exactly lol
I took the bath scene as a parody about fan service, it was still too weird
Alabasta was my least favorite non-filler arc as well, and I'm 200 episodes ahead of you.
Yeah Cobra has no real excuse for the bathscene and not many people like it understandably. Luffy was explained that he just copies Usopp because our pirate king is weak to peer pressure 😂😂
But that fanservice was kinda blegh imo. Same as Bon-chan being a charicature of transpeople which was prominent in the early 2000's feels icky (even tho Bon-chan is one of my favourite characters). It's just one of the things that did not age well
Rip best strawhat honorary member, Bon-chan
Explanations for Cobra: Nami and Igaram.
I'm so excited for you to start Jaya and Skypiea. I honestly believe from a storytelling perspective these are among the strongest and best arcs in the whole show and I can't wait to see what you think of this arc.
jaya and skypeia sold me on one piece when I was reading the manga. It made me really see the series can do anything adventure wise
There will be no Jaya/Skypiea whatever. He drops after the episode 131, because of double punch coming in it. 😅
@@oleggrudko8137 he literally uploaded 144 today.
i will say, while there are the rocky moments pre-time skip super early on, i promise you oda only gets better and better at his craft. you're about halfway to some god tier stuff
I just roll my eyes once or twice and it'll be over by then😅
But congrats on reaching the end of Alabasta!
I didn't think they were weird back then, but these days it does feel very out of place.
honestly, he should be spoiled about Pell beforehand, so he has time to accept it
I saw a lot of comments spoiling it in the bomb ep and the next ones, but i don't know if he has someone checking the comments for spoilers before he reads them😅
I totally agree with you about all creep shit in One Piece, I think the manga and anime would be far better off without the majority of it
Total chucked boys are the only ones that agree. Majority can live with it perfectly fine. Lmao
@@nathandanczak7822 Have no clue what "total chucked" means, but I never said I couldn't "live with it". I just think it would be better off without it.
@@kilian-one-l cucked
Seems extremely hypocritical to me that he calls it out so hard with how horny he is and all the sex jokes he makes about what he wants characters to do to him!
I feel pretty much the same way you do about fan service. To some extent, I get the idea of putting some random horniness in because you know it's expected/will sell well, and I could mostly just think "whatever" and ignore it. But I find a lot of fan service specifically involves fantasizing about situations that are extremely questionable/lack consent/push (or explicitly violate) boundaries/etc. And the shows rarely push back in any meaningful way. (A character getting mad about someone being a creep but then immediately moving on until that character creeps again is not real pushback.)
I haven't really watched a lot of anime, but some of what I've seen I feel like I can't recommend to people because of weird and/or excessive fan service.
Is it sadistic to me to look forward to his reaction of 'WILL OF P'?.
I can honestly see him dropping One Piece the moment he learns of the 'WILL OF P'
Bon clay is good dude who went to the wrong crowd
Next episode and then you can jump to 144! The next arc is a lot of fun.
Yeah the scene with cobra in the bathhouse creeped me out, too. But I'm not watching&reading one piece for that , it's the moments like the goodbye to Vivi that will get under your skin. And I can promise you, there are more brilliant moments than cringe one's and it's worth watching/reading.
I love it how westerners always complain about nudity/pervy jokes in anime. Never gets tiring. Reminds me of that time westerners lost their marbles over the father and daughters bathing together scene in Totoro.
Classic.
Koror is mystery shack also had a horrible reaction saying it’s bad cause” know the accusations against women in the gaming industry about being sexually assaulted, this reminded me of it”. No. That’s just you being unable to comprehend this humor and how people might not mind it.
