This video has my favorite Siskel quote: "Giving Meet the Deetles a thumbs-down isn't just a movie review; it's a public service. You have been warned."
The very best part of the entirely hilarious review of North, is Roger's facial expression after watching the Elijah Wood character screaming at the very beginning. It was unfortunately cut out for this video.
My memory on Pootie Tang is vague but Roger Ebert was right when he said that the movie wasn't finished. Director Louis CK admitted that Paramount Pictures began to edit the film without telling him and he refused to follow the studio's orders. So he's fired. After seeing the "finished" product, CK hated what Paramount did to his film and publicly agreed with Roger Ebert's take on the film.
Just don't know how else to say it....I miss both Siskel and Ebert. But how nice we can enjoy these reviews. Did they realize when they were doing these reviews that they would be enjoyed for many years after their passing?
I love the agonized way that Roeper tries to come up with a point for The Hottie and The Nottie to half-justify its existence. "Maybe the Nottie...can be a Hottie." He just hates his job in that moment. And who wouldn't?
"You took kids to see this? This is the kind of movie where after kids see this they should see The Good Son to cheer themselves up." "That was about a killer wasn't it?" "Yes."
The funny thing about Clifford, by the way, was that it had sat on the shelf for 3 years due to Orion's financial troubles. Should've stayed on the damn shelf!!!!!!!!
As much as I love Pootie Tang, after Roeper tears it a new a$$hole, Ebert’s reaction is priceless: “I think it’s a lot worse than you give it credit for...”
I feel sorry for Gene having to watch movies like Meet the Deedles when he's so close to death. Then again, as Leon of Spill.com once said, if you watch a bunch of terrible movies before you die, death won't seem so bad.
Gene: "You couldn't write worse jokes if I told you to write worse jokes." Roger: "You're forgetting, Gene. I co-wrote 'Beyond the Valley of the Dolls.' "
4:19 Roger is right. The guy who directed the actual movie is comedy legend Louis CK, who later said that the movie he wrote and directed was bastardized by the studio.
I had a co-worker loan me Pootie-Tang and she told me it was her favorite movie..... I maybe laughed twice and chuckled/smirked like 5x the entire movie. What a piece of crap. If Black People simply talking in jive or ebonics is the height of comedy to you, then I guess it's the perfect movie. The whole movie is devoid of jokes or set ups or funny characters.
I’ve always hated the conceit among movie reviewers that one actually needs to see a movie by Steven Seagal or Paris Hilton before determining that it’s a dumpster fire. It’s like waking up one day and thinking “maybe I should give herpes another chance.”
I'm shocked that they hated the movie North as much as I did. First of all as a child I found this movie hilarious from start to finish and was one of my favourite movies. Even when I watch it (at 16 years old) today I still think it's alright. That review is definitely one of the grossest exaggerations I've ever seen...

"Meet the Deedle's thumbs down isnt just a movie review, its a public service. You have been warned."
Epic.
poor Gene was close to death at this point as well so it just adds to the tragedy that this is one of final movies he watched.
I love it when Ebert says "if you'd like to see stuff blowed up real good"

That's just the director's excuse for making such a piece of crap movie.
I don't think a movie with the name "Pootie Tang" that isn't porn doesn't have any hope of being good.
The Clifford review was foookin hilarious.
I saw "On Deadly Ground" in the theater...one of the biggest regrets of my entire life.
"Our next film is "Meet the Deedles" and, boy, is this an annoying experience." LOL perfect delivery.
this summer... everthing you know ... will get... blowed up
3:56. But here's a catchphrase worth remembering: POOTIE TANG STINKS!
LOL.
this is the type of movie that when kids see this they see the good son to cheer up.... ouch Ebert that is a solid burn

DEEDLES DEEDLES!
Duncan Pictures
Shit. I didn't think I'd ever write something so compelling as to actually reinvigorate the long deceased.
WHAT HAS SCIENCE DONE
+Mike Zilla Deedles
Stop it, Roger.
"You took kids to see this? This is the kind of movie where after kids see this they should see The Good Son to cheer themselves up."
"That was about a killer wasn't it?"
"Yes."
"Why didn't you tell me that before the movie started?!" LMAO!
The funny thing about Clifford, by the way, was that it had sat on the shelf for 3 years due to Orion's financial troubles. Should've stayed on the damn shelf!!!!!!!!
I recently saw "North". It's worse than I could've possibly imagined.
Roeper's delivery of the phrase 'Pootie Tang' is very funny to me.
As much as I love Pootie Tang, after Roeper tears it a new a$$hole, Ebert’s reaction is priceless: “I think it’s a lot worse than you give it credit for...”
2:04 "blowed up real good"
That comment about Ms. Hilton was spot-on.
Ah the infamous "North" review, this would make a wonderful "Fun Times With Siskel & Ebert" video all by itself.
Ugh, "Meet the Deedles" was on my television today.....it was HORRIBLE! Thank you Gene for providing us with your public service.

Well, in modern times, it has a 75% on RT
@ 8:32 The expression on that woman's face is priceless.
YES! A new video
Great stuff
Does that mean he's allergic now to A Hard Day's Night and Yellow Submarine?
4:19 Roger is right. The guy who directed the actual movie is comedy legend Louis CK, who later said that the movie he wrote and directed was bastardized by the studio.
Pootie Tang is fantastic
This is the first time that I've heard of Pootie Tang and already the name is driving me nuts.
It's a funny movie. Dumb and stupid but there's some funny shit in there
Just realized I responded to a 10 year old post.
Great video, man.
Whoops! I thought they said Beetles!
that bar fight scene in the seagal movie is the most ridiulous thing ever.
Caesar Pompeius Crassus
Octavianus Antonius Lepidus
Siskel Ebert Roeper
The main guy in the Hottie and The Nottie was in Avatar. Wow.
His best role is in Grandma's Boy
I love Ebert, but he really needs to learn how to say Sa Da Tay and Feel Ok!
Why is there mega man music in the background?
0:19 How many times can you watch it?
POOTIE TANG!
7:25 Paris Hilton blinks
Best range she's ever shown in a film.
The Burning Plain review by scott is way funnier.
I had a co-worker loan me Pootie-Tang and she told me it was her favorite movie..... I maybe laughed twice and chuckled/smirked like 5x the entire movie. What a piece of crap. The rest of Gene's life, which wasn't that much more.
Burn

Don't cut down the North thing.
I disagree on "Clifford"....
6:05 Who's that geek?

North sucks, you had a sad childhood
as much as they did*
A.O.Scott
@SEVENTEENCINEMA
A logical step then.
@levanyzzuf I think Al Gore would tell him to shut up. lol

Deedles! Deedles!
I agree with them. That was a an awful movie
A.O. Scott was more funny here when he was trying. On the show he's become lazy, just like phillips.
Clifford is insanely bad insanely bad movie 🍿
