I’ve been going through a lot of old GB stuff lately and this period of early consumer VR streams is so pure and special. So happy they were at a pretty solid place with a great crew when that stuff was coming out, an incredible back catalog has been left as a gift.
I think Giant Bomb is one of the first (gaming) publications to really portray VR as the "still goofy, peripherals impeding on the player experience" interface it still (unfortunately) is. I was hoping VR would see more of a Renaissance than it did after all, and I'm still waiting on some back-ordered 360 degree cameras I had contributed to a Kickstarter project toward intending to experiment with it. I should still probably snag a set of some kind (probably Oculus, limited space for Vive, etc...) but Jeff pointing out how he waves to Drew around 2:05, and Vinny smashing that table with the "Bar Brawl" game (or whatever it was called, lol...) highlight interesting perspectives and experiences with VR during the Oculus / Vive era. The interface of VR and wearing a strange headset all still just reminds me too much of those sideshow VR systems you would see in the mid 90s, or even the Genesis "Octagon" fighting game peripheral intended for Eternal Champions, I think VR still has a long way to go to breach into the "public consciousness" in an entertainment sense, and may suit scientific / exploratory/ engineering / reconaissance technology more than entertainment mediums (gaming, movies, etc...)
I think i agree with a lot of what you're saying, but i don't think it impedes on the player experience much at all, considering the advancements and expansions it makes upon the player experience. Certain types of games are just made so much more interesting in VR, mostly adventure games like The Gallery: call of the starseed, and action games like serious sam or Onward and the like. Currently there aren't enough games that have the money or backing to take advantage of the possibilities provided by the tech. Either they spend all that time on the potential in VR and end up with a tech demo like Climbey, or they just slap a vr camera into a traditional game, like a lot of Oculus titles. It does have a long way to get into public consciousness, and i think all the companies are well aware of that, and have stated that publicly for years now. But I feel like, as a interface system, the flow of games that do actually take advantage of it fully will start to accelerate bit by bit. The next The Gallery game is coming soon and valve apparently have 3 VR games in the works, so at the very least, we'll at the very least, have a few killer titles to justify it a little more.
Is it? The interface of VR or the intrusiveness of peripherals (a headset or Wii nunchuk etc...) still seems to be too separate from the user / human interaction that the public at large seems responsive too, then again people are constantly on their phones/etc and have been for over a decade now... maybe it's inevitable...
Interesting, XpantherX has a name. And it is Derek Stone It's great seeing these in higher res they must give home access to the source footage or something.
brad being completely brought to his knees by will leaving is one of my favorite moments
Jeff's face when he took off the headset near the end was PRICELESS
will exiting vr makes me laugh every time
+Totem yeah could have said that a little better
I'm a jaded and cynical POS, but same here. Crying again...
+Atropos148 will entering VR is pretty great too
Will in anything. is great.
Atropos148 it shouldnt
I come back Will taking off his headset at the end once a year or so and laugh hysterically. It's easily one of the funniest clips I've ever found.
The wave moment was adorable

Bye, Will.
The Tracer core and all the other cores got a genuine laugh out of me
The hardest Brad has ever laughed on any GB video. Quite a historic moment.
