NEW Watch my review of the NEW Bose Revolve II series: • Review: New Bose Sound...
There’s an amazing amount of choice out there when it comes to wireless speakers. Practically every manufacturer has an option, which lets you chose your favourite. But every now and then there’s a product that comes along that’s just a bit different and enticing.
Reviewing Bose Soundlink Revolve and Revolve+
The Bose Soundlink Revolve and Revolve+ are those speakers. With their unique cylindrical shape and black or white colour options they can really blend into your decor. Plus that cylinder isn’t just for looks; it allows the sound to pump out in all directions, meaning everyone in the room is sitting in the sweet spot.
I recently received a Revolve and a Revolve + for a few days of testing and review.
There are really minor differences between the two speakers. The Revolve is the smaller speaker. It’s lighter in weight and smaller in size overall. It also has a shorter battery life than its cousin. The Revolve + is obviously larger and more weighty, it also comes with a fabric wrapped carrying handle, and boasts a longer battery life up to 16 Hours, to the Revolve’s 12 hours.
Those differences aside, the two speakers operate identically and have all the same features. The control panel is on the top; there’s power and volume buttons as well as a button that will switch your input from wireless to auxiliary. There’s also what Bose calls a multifunction button. Pushing it will connect you to Siri or Google Now, though there is a bit of a delay from the time you push it until it connects to the phone, so requests can sometimes be a bit like having a bad long distance phone call.
To get party mode and stereo mode working, firstly, you need two speakers - I have two Revolves, both black - if your device is unable to download the app, it can work without the app - firstly, turn on Bluetooth and select the device you have decided to be the left channel - when it comes on, press Bluetooth and Vol + - turn on the one designated right channel and press Bluetooth and Vol - - you should hear a voice say “Party Mode” (assuming you have English set as your language and you speak English) - go to the left channel again and press Bluetooth and Vol + again - the voice then says “Stereo Mode” - then says “Left” followed by “Right” in the corresponding channel - you can always swap them over if you do it wrong - start playing the music or sounds - position the speakers in the optimum position to suit your listening environment!
Helps if you are listening to a stereo sound source!
Party Mode just plays as if it was just one speaker being routed to two - handy for having one speaker in one room and the other in another - or one in the house and one in the garden!
I have the Resolve + and like the way it sounds both inside and outside. Definitely like the handle and being able to hang it up.
Had no issue at all pairing these speakers into stereo mode. Connect one via bluetooth to your device (laptop, cellphone, tablet...etc..) in my case a laptop. Make sure one speaker is connected to your device before continuing steps following. Hold the bluetooth button and plus symbol on one speaker that is connected to your device and release once you hear the voice telling you it's ready for, "stereo mode" - it will give instructions for the other bluetooth speaker and which buttons to press - being bluetooth button and plus symbol again on the other speaker - and that's it I was set up in under 2 minutes. I had no firmware updates at all in having to do. The only thing I can think of that maybe gave you this much trouble is the date you purchased yours vs when I purchased mine being (Feb 6, 2019) where Bose may have corrected those issues.
Thanks for adding your experience Paul.
@@ErinLawrenceTV Your welcome :)
I really really liked the fact that I heard hip-hop and 90's r&b music! Your review was warm and well put together!
Thank you for the compliment 😊
yes i have revolve plus good 4 outdoor indoor and the sounds is great 💕
Simple if you use it for traveling, get the Revolve. If you don't use it for traveling , and home use , pool revolve plus . Simply the plus is better obviously, but significantly bigger , and not as portable.
Setting up these speakers is super easy, barely an inconvenience...
Wow wow wow wow.....
Party mode works great for me in the U.S.
I tried both speakers at Walmart and I was blown away how the small one sound almost the same as the big one
Thanks for adding that Beto. Did you buy one?
Erin Lawrence yes, I bough the plus. I even take it hiking with me hahaha. Thanks for your video
Can you review the Bowers and Wilkins Zeppelin wireless speaker?
I'd love to! I'll see if I can get one.
@@ErinLawrenceTV Wow, thank you Erin.
HI Erin. Great video. I have successfully enabled party and stereo mode as per another you tube video. Using the party mode via Bluetooth and + button and then repeating the sequence. Search for pairing revolve speakers in party and stereo mode.
Thanks for sharing!
This is a great review, no none sense and beautifully presented
What's the frequency response.. why do some of these high quality speakers have rating of just 50 hz to 20khz and some budget speakers can go low as 20hz
Not enough detail on the difference in sound quality and value between the two speakers.
The plus is nice the rubber top feels premium the grill is durable. I bought one used at a video store for 96$ not sure why it was priced like that but its looks like it's been through some rough situation and its scratched up but still sounds beautiful. It's a mono speaker. Well worth it.
I don’t know if this helps, but when I went to update my speaker. It took days. Then it sent me a message saying It won’t update unless plugged in. Then i plugged the speaker in and it updated in two minutes
in order to get enable party mode the two speakers have to be the same type
Flash update: party mode works well now. Could have been a software thing. Great review by the way!
+Loud & Wireless Singapore Thank you for he compliment! And good to know!!
You're welcome!
Bose soundlink revolve got ‘red flash and can’t be charged’ problem after 2 years of using
Pairing in stereo mode sounds awesome! If the app is not working it can be done manually. One of mine was recently stolen and I am mourning the loss of stereo mode till I can afford to replace it ☹️
Can you get stereo mode if you mix a Revolve with a Revolve+?
I'm very happy to hear Big Sugar in your playlist 🙂
:D
Sound quality is one thing, but these guys seem like they were prematurely launched. Customers should NOT be beta-testers for half-baked software! Nice review though, as always, Erin...
Agree, David. Thanks for the comment, and the compliment.
Do you have a sound opinion on the difference between both speakers is the extra cost worth the sound difference
I'd say if price is a concern the smaller version would do you fine. They're very similar.
Can i use any android charger to soundlink revolve?
I have the revolve it's amazing
Glad you like it!
That's right
Small speaker, but Big in Sound & Performance.
You must try to play songs with media players for Enhanced sound Quality & then through Bose revolve
Not from TH-cam & Spotify*
I use it at picnics when I travel in my RV. Small size but loud. Until I met the dindinmodern speaker. I really like it and deserves my recommendation.
That's great!
Thinking buying one of these for work.
"One of these" referencing a video comparing two different speakers.
Were you using apple or android phone to pair and update. I bought a pair and they updated immediately and I had no problems getting them into stereo mode. You can actually do it from the buttons and not even use the app. I have a nougat phone.
It was Apple. I'm thinking it's an Apple issue, as I know some Android users who've had no problems. I tried again recently and now one won't even connect to my phone at all.
Sorry to hear. Yeah mine took seconds.
Erin I was going to purchase one of the two to use as a speaker for when I watch films.
I had the same exact issue when trying to pair 2 for party mode and Bose had no clue!!! But I figured out you have to un pair 1 of the speakers from your phone so they don't both auto connect to your phone then they should party mode no problem. Try that and let me know if that worked? :-)
Good to know. I had to send them back already, but hopefully this will help others who might have the same issue.
By the way - what kind of phone do you have, Apple or Android?
spechtacular1 hold down the multi function bouton for 10 seconds and make sure u are only connected to one when connecting them together
Another thing to remember when your pairing them into party mode or stereo mode they need to be 9 feet away from each other.
On one speaker hold Bluetooth and volume up for a few seconds, on the second speaker hold the volume down and Bluetooth buttons at the same time and boom party mode, you didn't give them time to work out the kinks this is a revolutionary idea from Bose and like every new idea, there is kinks to work out 🤓
excuse me. Can anyone tell me know if they play well at low volume? I mean is the sound still room filling and vouminous? I heared the P6 Beoplay would still be. But it is almost double in price.
im here for Erin
So helpful. Thank you!
Thanks for the compliment!
You should add the link to the product in the video description, this will solve the dual purpose.
Good idea, thanks Abhijit.
Hi, great review. Are these speakers Bluetooth 5.0? It’s the new long range standard. Thank you
Hi... I don't think they are. Bose's website doesn't say that they are.
Can I use it while it’s charging ?
Emily A yes! currently charging my revolve and watching TH-cam with it concurrently
I know this is a old review but the review is a good one I know cause of copyrights you can not play the music loud but from what I heard snoop dog & Heavy D sound good
Just done my own review on the smaller Revolve speaker and I was very impressed :)
Wow. I just purchased the Revolve+ ( and was going to Buy another, for Stereo ) but after you ( and many others ) Complained about The DIFFICULTY in pairing - I will look elsewhere. Thanks.
Glad this helped you! Thanks for watching
@@ErinLawrenceTVHi, did you try linking using the buttons only?
I like your video, why not update it recently
Thank you Erin !
Glad you liked it!
@@ErinLawrenceTV hi I’m thinking to upgrade my revolve to revolve plus but I found in bose shop the portable home speaker.what do you think?
I have d revolve but unfortunately water gets inside and it won't turn on. However I'll buy another one cuz it sounds punchy!
Does iT work with Samsung ?
So...should I buy or ditch it ???
If you have an Android phone I'd say go for it. If you're iOS, I'd wait for now.
Erin Lawrence why wait if I’m iOS?
what do you think of sound touch 10, vs revolve+ which is better?
If you're looking for solid wireless speakers, I really like Fugoo (zero bugs, good sound) th-cam.com/video/UUxvtfJgzNY/w-d-xo.html and Sonos th-cam.com/video/rdg0640oDlA/w-d-xo.html
had the same problem. to solve use a pc and usb connect to speaker then use the bose updater software and problem will be gone.
Thanks for the tip Marte!
Love ur comprehensive review!
Thanks so much for saying so Maggie!
Revolve+ or the B&O P6?
Haven't tried the P6, but I did like the older A2. Sony is also making some wicked stuff. th-cam.com/video/GCe6ovN2LE4/w-d-xo.html
Revolve+ or Jbl boombox.. which is better?
Good question Kushal. I haven’t tried anything from JBL so I can’t say. Maybe others here have thoughts....
Kushal Das The one that sounds better to you
How's the Bose Revolve Plus compared to Fugoo XL?
Great question! I just got a FugooXL to test. I'll let you know.
Looking forward to it.
Would be travelling overseas in 10 days and thinking of getting either the Fugoo XL or the Bose Revolve Plus as a gift, hoping you are able to compare them before then :)
amith jagota then my quick answer is Fugoo. Very easy operation and no bugs. Stylish too.
Thanks Erin - I too am inclining towards the Fugoo XL as opposed to the Bose Revolve Plus.
Wondering how's the comparative audio quality, bass, etc.
It's awesome that though the Fugo XL was launched in 2015, it's still competitive.
On a side note, looks like Fugoo just launched some new speakers including the Style-S (currently only available in US, not for us Canadian consumers at the moment) but I don't believe the audio quality is as good as the one on Fugoo XL
Fugoo's sound is great and the bass on the XL is pretty good. I think you'd be happy.
whats the problem when i update firmware of bose revolve in bose app it suddenly turns off and wont turn on again..even if i plug in wall charger there is still no lights..
These are quite buggy.
How many watt does the revolve plus put out?
17
Can you please do a review on the bose revolve vs anker speaker vs the Monster adventure speaker?
I'll see if I can get my hands on some. Great suggestion.
Thanks Video! Erin, Can you show us check sound test?
Hi! Thanks for the request. I'd love to, however I'm afraid I don't have the test samples any longer.
I am going backpacking in January. Do you think i should but the revolve + or Revolve? I have a 70l Backpack so plenty of room but is it worth the extra buck + weight + size. do i really need the extra sound that the Revolve + offers for playing at hostel, beach, bar, camping, hiking etc??
Good question. I had so much frustration with these that I would actually recommend a different speaker. last thing you want to deal with on the road is finicky speakers. Take a look at the Fugoo Style or Style XL.. or others in their line. th-cam.com/video/UUxvtfJgzNY/w-d-xo.html
@@ErinLawrenceTV Hi Erin, are you still having issues with these speakers or have they been updated since your review? I purchased a Megaboom 3, but it turned out to have so many problems, then I got a replacement, and it also didn't work. So I've gotten a refund on the Megaboom 3, and now I'm looking toward Bose. What do you think?
@@kentondick7259 the sound link was the most impressive portable speaker ive heard anyone I know own (Cousin had it and was traveling with it) and I was like g-**damn I need to buy that. Was crystal clear. I haven't owned it but for the sound quality alone I would get it. If your'e obsessed with amazing Sound quality (who isn't)
Hey Erin, Thanks for the videos. You should consider wearing a lav mic for these videos
Indeed Ellery. Thanks for the feedback. I'm definitely working on my audio.
Both sound great but thecrevolve is more tuned, also redownload the app then retry the pairing it should work, good review

@@ErinLawrenceTV THANKS!
So did you mentioned BestBuy Isn’t that they have that Geeky Squad? Maybe they can fix that sync issue right...?
Good idea, but since this product is new and is under manufacturers warranty, that's got to be the first stop.
Owned two revolve plus for over a year. Always Difficulty with getting stereo paring mode to work , still sound great but it’s a pain to get synch working consistently. The iPhone app is really useless and doesn’t really work. Still a year later they haven’t got the bugs out. Once it’s working they sound great together. Problem is also if they are idle then they shut down and you have futz around again to get them paired and working again P I T A
how do they perform at low volume? Is there any background noise, is the sound still filling with details?
You can pair them without the app - connect a device to one speaker, press and hold the Bluetooth and Plus buttons on that - a voice prompt tells you to connect to another device (you need two - doesn’t work with just one) - press Bluetooth and Minus on the second device - it then says “Party mode” - at least the English version does - press Bluetooth and Plus on either device and it should say “Stereo mode!”. Quite fiddly, but it does work!
It’s a good idea to call one “Left Channel” and the other “Right Channel” - connect to Left Channel, then pair to Right Channel - otherwise it’s out of phase, like reverse hearing!
Battery life is a joke had mine a few years now and never got over 4 hours before the battery would be dead even with it plugged in,now it needs a battery replaced,do not buy.
I purchased two Revolve+ speakers. Though they sound great, it is almost impossible to get them into Party Mode or Stereo Mode with my iPhone 6s. It takes about five to ten minutes and try after try after try. I have updated the speakers and the app. The Bose Connect app works absolutely horribly (version 4.2.0). It is a frustrating waste of time with a sequence of non-sensical error screens.. If you can ever get these speakers into Stereo Mode they sound really great, but be prepared to spend many, many minutes each time you want to get them into Stereo Mode. I've posted two videos of how badly this behaves. Just search for "Bose Disconnect". Bose really needs to fix this!
It's seems like this problem is quite widespread.
This is awesome
Thanks for the review. Did you happen to test either outside? Was thinking of the revolve for out on the desk, but maybe the + is better suited for this?
I didn't but I just got another set. I'll find out.
Nice....I got the revolve yesterday, but haven't opened/tested yet. Was considering doing my 1st youtube review on the quality of sound outdoors with the revolve. Chances are you will beat me to it..haha
DO IT!! Race ya!
Hi keith, I took the Revolve (smaller) camping this weekend finally. I'd say outdoors the sound is very localized; great so as not to disturb others at the campsite next door, and still 360 degrees... but not booming.
I knew you would beat me to it! haha Thanks for the follow up. I had planned to use it at the beach a few weeks back, but the weather did not cooperate, so it has been relegated strictly to indoor use so far. I find the battery life has been excellent. At this point I am still on my initial charge, and it was at 40% after some listening last night. I was having an issue where music would get staticky (is that a word?) when I would launch the Bose Connect app, but that seems to have revolved it self with a firmware update that I installed yesterday.
Watching movies sucks. They should create a small program for desktop that allows you to edit the timing.
please suggest between Sony srs XB40 or Bose Revolve.?
I have to say I really like Sony's wireless speakers. Have had zero issues with them, but definite issues with Bose.
Peace, love and harmony
Honestly, I will not get either of them... They slightly lacked highs, and the bass is a bit uncontrolled and imprecise... The cost is also very high... If each of them are 100 USD cheaper, I will get them... Another cheaper alternative to the revolve plus is the JBL pulse 3...
There's so many alternatives. Libratone is awesome, as is Fugoo. Both reviewed here on the channel.
Nice!
You are so beautiful. May the Almighty bless you dear. ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you!
which one is better revove plus vs mini2
+koo ko hi Koo Ko. I've not had a chance to review the Mini 2 so I couldn't say. What are you looking for your speaker to do?
🕊
I like the way that you wear your hair ! Very feminine
You probably can't pair the Revole and Revole Plus in Party Mode
A boot
👢
Thanks. You just saved me 400$
Glad to, Eric!
Erin Lawrence Opted for JBL's Flip 4. Was 116$ on Amazon today.
Finally. I returned the Flip 4 because their Bluetooth didn't work properly.
oooooooouhhhhhhhhhh!
