The reason Natalie in The Boogeyman survived is because she isn't a Stephen King character. The original Boogeyman story was a short story in one of his anthologies. It only had three characters, the dad, the baby and the Boogeyman. Because Natalie wasn't in the original story by King, she didn't get a King death.
Bobby's survival in Saw 3D was a rare stroke of brilliance for the series. It's not just the fact his reputation is ruined, every one of his failures in trying to get through his test is proof that he doesn't have what it takes to survive a Jigsaw test. Therefore, everything he falsely earned is taken away from him in the most brutal fashion possible. Even the fact that he is put through the very "trap" he made up is intended to strip him of his false scars, to show that he couldn't even have survived the trap he invented for the publicity. Now, the scars he bears aren't things he can exploit for his own gains, they're a permanent reminder of his own ultimate failure.
When I was a kid we rented a zombie movie one night. I can’t quite remember the name of it. I think it was something like “Island Of The Dead” or something like that. The story was that a bunch of wealthy people were staying at an old castle on a secluded island when the dead rises as zombies and begins to attack the living. There was this one blonde woman who was incredibly obnoxious and annoying. I think the character was a rich heiress or something, maybe the daughter of the owner of the island or something like that. I remember that she was so annoying that when the character accidentally stepped in a bear trap and essentially leaving herself helpless and easy prey for the oncoming zombie horde, my whole family laughed and applauded. Yet somehow, she managed to survive to the very end of the movie. She didn’t survive the movie itself. It ends with her being completely surrounded by zombies, closing in on her from all sides, and her screaming “No! No! No! No!” To which my mom started screaming “Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!” I swear, not until Trent was introduced in the Friday The 13th remake had I ever wanted a horror movie character to die more than I wanted that woman to be killed, just so that she could shut the heck up and give our ears a break from her constantly gabbing voice.
He's allowed to go ahead and survive solely based on the experience of him being dressed as Michael Myers yelling at Michael Myers and Michael just gets confused and walks away That gem is worth any fault
Terrance from the Black Phone should have a redemption arc if they make a sequel. The movie is based in the 70s when mental health services were limited and scoffed at and every kid got hit with a belt. Also alcohol is a bastard when abused and while not an exscuse, it can change people for the worst. It also reminded me of Alice's dad in the nightmare on elm st series. In part 4 he is a dick who is verbally abusive to his kids. Then part 5 he struggles with his sobriety and the shame of his actions, but is shown to be a loving and supportive father. Shown comeuppance to failures as a parent and to substances is important. But showing people can change and overcome vices is even more important.
Having Terrence die at the end of Black Phone would be horrible. Yes what he was doing was awful but at the end there seemed to be a resolution of sorts plus if he died Finny and Gwen would be orphans with no assurance they would remain together. No other family was mentioned.
Very true. It's like that time Dexter killed an innocent random guy, the dealbreaker of all dealbreakers. But at least with Dexter it was temporary insanity, in Jigsaw's case it was as premeditated as it comes.
If the test screening said that Freddy should live, it wasn't because he was a likable character. It's because everybody eye-rolls at the "black guy dies" trope. They were probably pissed off that he died just because it was so OBVIOUS that he was going to die. I applaud any horror movie director who throws out the BGD trope. But for it to work, you also need to make the black guy likeable, or at least capable. When the movie Anaconda came out, I bet all the members of my family that Danny Rich, who was (at least compared to the others) likeable, capable, and played by Ice Cube, would survive, and everybody took that bet because "Hur, dur, black guy always dies". I made a similar bet about Michael Clark Duncan's character in Armageddon, also just based on how much more likeable he was as a character, and how much fun the directors seemed to be having with his screen time, than all the others. And if we'd gone to see Halloween: Resurrection in theaters, there would have been no bets.
I really don't like the protagonist of Don't Breathe, her stupid decisions get everyone around her killed but she has plot armor so that she can rescue her sister at the end of the movie, Dylan Minnette's character was much more likable and definitely should've been the one to live of the three robbers as he tried to leave before the heist in the first place, not wanting to do it and trying to back out several times, citing it as messed up before they find out who they're dealing with, and yet his fate is the most painful, arguably. He dies only because he wants to protect his friends.
I’ve never realized people hated Freddy/Busta. I found him campy and hilarious but not too much in a movie about an invincible murderous fugly hell baby and his crazy mother. That movie def wanted to ride the interwebs train. It was great timing.
Busta was both good and bad. In context of the Halloween series, which (barring some truly absurd parts of V) was a more serious minded slasher franchise, the goofiness of Busta and other elements of Resurrection was very out of place. Resurrection could have probably been edited to make a bit more of a more serious toned horror film and so better in many respects; but as Busta's character of Freddie (in a now often campy/goofy film more along the lines of Friday the 13th part V or Sleepaway Camp 2) is so campy that it adds to the entertainment. It's sort of that "so bad it's good" factor.
Bobby living in saw 3d is a good thing. He pretty much lost it all for his lying. Not only that but he will have to face Joyce parents and friends and tell them the truth that he got her and everyone else killed by his life making him the most hated person ever
I agree! I think that’s what John was looking to do all along and he had the game planned out because that was his character. Even though it was carried out by Hoffman, John was testing him posthumously
Bro, the woman saves you just to kill you because your lawn is better trimmed and you have better security, AND YET YOU DON'T KILL HER? Next purge she's pulling the same shenanigans, ma'am, you better kill all the neighbors, specially that one. Smh....😂
I like to think that Bobby's trial in Saw 3D was enacted after Jigsaw's passing, by Hoffman. John Kramer may have designed the game after he met Bobby at the book signing, but I hope that he had nothing to do with Bobby's wife getting killed. For all of Jigsaw's harsh and bloody methods to achieve redemption, he's never wanted any innocents to suffer.
The mother of all hated horror movie survivors would obviously be Mayor Larry Vaughan in "Jaws". Not listed. Not seeing the forest for the trees, maybe? 🙂
I heard that dig about test audiences. Meanie. But it confirms that Freddie was popular like I suspected. I've never heard a single negative thing about that character in Resurrection.
One of the main reasons why Halloween 6 was reshot with the theatrical cut was because test audiences who were teenagers as young as 13 didn't like the producers cut of the film because it was lame and not 90s teen awesome or whatever.
It also had a ridiculous plot that perverted everything about the original Halloween and robbed it of its' power. For starters they made Michael a pawn of the Dr. Wynn character who was made to be the true evil of the series in many ways. That's an even worse screw up than what Halloween Ends did.
Some movie characters have triggered me before, but I have never wanted to stomp someone on the fuckin mouth as bad as with Terrence in that kitchen scene, my blood was boiling
IIRC it's not the fact the Sandins are wealthy or flaunting said wealth that provokes the neighbours to try and purge them, it's the fact that said wealth was gained at the neighbours' expense. Imagine shelling out tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars of your hard-earned cash just to keep your family safe, and then not only having to live next to the person whose mortgage you've just paid a good chunk of, but having to make nice around them as well. They kinda had a point in hating them.
Speaking one final time about Halloween 6 The reason why they cut most of Dr. Lommis' scenes out is because the producers and test audiences found his whole character boring.
In my opinion they should of just let his character die at the end of the 2nd movie blowing up Michael. His character wasn’t that bad in the 4th one but by the fifth he was basically just crazy and nothing like how he was in the first movie.
@@vonterriojones To be fair the Producer's Cut of 6 that includes a lot of the alternate kills has an anti-climactic feeling with many of those kills. As an anti-Trump conservative, I thank you for your views here. There is too much hatred being leveled against both sides of the political spectrum. Was disappointed that What Culture used Annie in this video as a hated character just for political views.
This is definitely an unpopular opinion, but I think Gale Weathers should be on this list. Easily my least favorite character that has survived but shouldn't have. She's conniving, annoying, and she only helps when it benefits her. So she can write a book about it.
I see your point. In my mind, there are some redeeming qualities to Gale, but I can definitely appreciate your sentiment. It would have been a good idea to kill her off instead of Dewey, the supposed shocker that really wasn't. I mean, Dewey had already been all but mortally wounded twice in the series, someone actually succeding with him the third time both seems redundant and not nearly as shocking as it would have been to kill off someone who used to always walk away comparatively unscathed. Ironically, I guess they figured that since we all liked Dewey we'd be more devastated about that. They weren't wrong.
I'm going to say Eric Hoffman in most of the Saw series - they left his death implied but not shown in Saw 3D, which robs the audience of a great kill. Honestly, considering all the horrible stuff he did as a Jigsaw Apprentice and Secondary Jigsaw, I would have been happy if he had died thanks to Jill Tuck with the Reverse-Beartrap 2.0. Hoffman gets off way too easy by not showing us the DAMN KILL IN THE END!
WARNING IF YOU WANNA SEE THE NUN 2 Why are you spoiling a movie that's literally still in theaters? Personally I have no interest in the film but give a spoiler warning FFS.
Mindy Meeks-Martin from the new Scream movies. God, she's a piss poor imitation of Randy and she's not an interesting character. Every time she opens her mouth, I get a headache. lol

Yeah, this is another occasion (one of many in fact) where Riley from Hellraiser (2022) deserves to be near the top of the list. *Spoiler alert* She’s an obnoxious, selfish, sanctimonious and immature little ball of bile who uses and abuses everyone with no attempt to acknowledge her wrongdoing whatsoever. Hell! The fact that she kicks her boyfriend out of the bedroom on not one but TWO occasions when he reveals that he actually wants to have a proper relationship with her - a nice subversion of the “selfish man with a masochistically devoted girlfriend” trope - practically telegraphs his inevitable betrayal. I mean, would you want to stay true to someone who treats you with no more regard than a snotty Kleenex? Come on. Perhaps the character was meant as a social commentary about people with deep personal issues get so lost in themselves that they become blinkered to the hurt they cause others? If so, then it wasn’t done all that well. She is so mired in her own ennui that only those audience members sharing the same toxic traits as herself could experience empathy towards her.
It seems to escape filmmakers that your audience is supposed to care about these people and want them to survive, not be killed by the "mpnster", to the point where we actually wonder "who will survive" but the sad fact is that for a long time horror movies have written them as fundamentally unlikeable and obnoxious people who no one cares about - except the clichéd "final girl". These same filmmakers then wonder why their movies DON'T become the "next big thing" 😂

Personally, I LIKE Bobby Dagan in his movie. Yeah, he was a bit of a charlatan but being an “incompetent character?” The causes of the deaths in his game were 1.) the girl (understandably given her circumstances) wouldn’t stop screaming 2.) he couldn’t stand the weight/pain of his part of the second one, and 3.) yeah, he didn’t go about it in the best way but I don’t blame him for his friend’s death. The last one is the only one I have a problem with because there were so many other ways he could have made the climb to the cables WITHOUT stabbing himself with meat hooks. As a character, despite his charlatan ways, I found him to be a sympathetic character (likely due to his actor). Apologies but this is just my long winded way of saying that I’m surprised people don’t like Bobby Dagan

Well, I do wholeartedly agree with the commenter who took a stand for Terrence. I wouldn't class him as an abusive father, rather a traumatized and depressed man. He beats his daughter (as he/she stated in the comment, in 1978 and beyond, belting was a common punishment) because she shows signs of what drove the wife/mother to suicide, and he clearly doesn't want more of that. But that's his only act of violence: he does not beat his sons senseless, does not abuse them in nasty ways. A single father with the strain of a terrible loss and a hard job, supporting two minors, with a kidnapper on the loose at that, is to be cut some slack. Proof is that he manages to stay sober, listen to the girl, and apologize in the end. I don't think he deserves to be on the list. But thanks for reminding me of Black Phone, which I watched today. Kind of lacking, story-wise, but very atmospheric. Thanks!
Did that first part call a high schooler a child? No wonder people grow up being useless anymore when you are treated like less of an adult than my 6-year-old when you are in high school.
@thatchillingeffect it is beyond pathetic to consider someone that is either a couple years from 18 or already there the same as a 6 year old. This mentality is why they are all becoming so useless and continuing it into life. You can't be treated like a child and flip a switch the day someone turns 18 or graduates high school.

As an anti-Trump conservative, I thank you for your views here. There is too much hatred being leveled against both sides of the political spectrum. Was disappointed that What Culture used Annie in this video as a hated character just for political views.
Why is Parker on this list? She’s not that bad especially considering her situation
Everyone seems to forget that Busta Rhymes is so dangerous (uh-huh), he so dangerous (Aight), his Flip Mode Squad is dangerous
Busta Rhymes was the best part of Halloween resurrection. Underrated.
This is definitely an unpopular opinion, but I think Gale Weathers should be on this list. Easily my least favorite character that has survived but shouldn't have. She's conniving, annoying, and she only helps when it benefits her. So she can write a book about it.
how dare u
Did I strike a nerve with another scream fan. 🤣
@@erikthompson619 couldn't agree more.
Mark Hoffman, not Eric.
@@DrGregoryHouseIT You're right - I must have been tired enough while originally commenting to mess that up!
The only correct answer is Amy.
Thank you! Amy should be both 1a and 1b. Why? Cause eff Amy. Just the worst...
Justice for Freddy.
WARNING IF YOU WANNA SEE THE NUN 2
Why are you spoiling a movie that's literally still in theaters?
Personally I have no interest in the film but give a spoiler warning FFS.
Mindy Meeks-Martin from the new Scream movies. God, she's a piss poor imitation of Randy and she's not an interesting character. Every time she opens her mouth, I get a headache. lol
Actually letting a horrible character get off Scott-free at the end of movies is realistic! They normally do in IRL! but we watch movies to get a break from our mundane lives so please let us have the punishment those bad guys deserve!
I have never rooted so hard for the monster in a movie to kill someone as in Dashcam.
Terrence was okay; it was the kid that annoyed me lol
Annie is one of the worst most annoying protagonists to ever exist and the fact they based it off the actress’s real life personality makes it worse
Frozen is def the case of the sexist Men Are the Expendable Gender trope. Same thing in the movie 247°F which you should do next time if you make a sequel to this video
Yeah, this is another occasion (one of many in fact) where Riley from Hellraiser (2022) deserves to be near the top of the list.
*Spoiler alert*
She’s an obnoxious, selfish, sanctimonious and immature little ball of bile who uses and abuses everyone with no attempt to acknowledge her wrongdoing whatsoever.
Freddie Harris was awesome
i really didn't hate annie lol
I would think anyone who voted for trump deserves a fitting end.
I never wish for anyone's death in real life but it's hard to argue against certain deaths making the world better
That hardly seems fair. They aren't all assholes.
@@kingjamos2422 true but supporting and voting for a wannabe fascist dictator is not what makes the world a better place. We are talking about a President who ruled according to who voted for him. He wished for the death of a high ranking general. He called pow and injured war veterans suckers. He loves dictators. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. The people who voted for someone like that aren't helping the world.
@@djyannoand hows the world doing right now without him? Its worse, you giant p $$y. Trump was a great president. The media just fools r t rds like you and you buy their garbage.
@@djyannoPeople like you should’ve never been given the right to vote. Pearls for swine.
I've been watching a lot of mediocre horror movies on Prime. Surprised just how many end up on these lists. That ski lift movie was a rough one to get through.
Haha yeh, I quite liked it at first, soon went downhill (slope)
Im sorry but Anna was awesome in dashcam 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Freddie was the best Character in Resurrection and it ain't even close.
Oh come on, Freddie wasn't that bad! lmao
All the Characters from Megan sucked as humans . No likable characters
So the right wing streamer who loves Trump .....why ? She lives in the UK ? Trump has nothing to do with politics were she lives??
she's american and she travels to the uk to get away from us covid restrictions
Because Orange Man Bad
Busta was the best part of Resurrection how many characters do you actually see go toe to toe with the big bad. Bare knuckle brawling was it the best movie far from it I respect it because they actually let someone put hands on Micheal same reason I love Friday the 13th Jason Takes Manhattan leader of the boxing team literally told Jason put them hands up.
I like Annie! :D H2ters gonna h2te lol
So you wanted the girl to die because she was a trump fan? God this country is doomed.
This r t rd d b tch (Ellie) needs to make an apology video for her r t rd d remark.
Of course. Trump fans are subhuman by definition: inferior intellect, inferior character, inferior mind. They're nothing but bargain bin Nazis.
Ellie, listen, its legged, "leg-ged", two syllables.
First
That’s a “coward” dying a thousand deaths when, & while the protagonist only dies once!

I believe black phone the dad was doing it so the daughter wouldn’t end up like her mother
For Eight Legged Freaks, legged has two syllables (like leg-ged). I know WhatCulture likes to mispronounce things all the time though...
You are doing it now, this is What Culture buddy.

Thanks!
The Dashcam girl, Annie, is the ONLY good person in this video.
Legged is pronounced leg-id
These are all examples of bad writing. especially the trump loving girl lol like why
Halloween resurrection gets hate for no reason it’s one of my favorites
I actually like Freddy everyone else in that movie kinda sucked.
Nah, video disliked, take Busta off of this list Lmao
Did that first part call a high schooler a child? No wonder people grow up being useless anymore when you are treated like less of an adult than my 6-year-old when you are in high school.
The girl was acting like a child so she should be called one
@kaic3532 there are very few people under 30 that don't act like children anymore, it doesn't mean I will think of them as a child
high schoolers are children expected to act like adults
@thatchillingeffect it is beyond pathetic to consider someone that is either a couple years from 18 or already there the same as a 6 year old. This mentality is why they are all becoming so useless and continuing it into life. You can't be treated like a child and flip a switch the day someone turns 18 or graduates high school.
yea dislike from me xD
Spoilers for a movie barely a month out and without any warning. The writer and presenter are more annoying than any of the characters mentioned here.
Well, The Boogeyman has nothing to do with Stephen King’s short story other than title, so
Seriously. Fuck that. It’s so different, it’s a bald-faced lie to call it an adaptation.
Oh yes Jocasta! We all know someone like Jocasta. Her worse fate was seeing Ellie be confident, happy and successful.😂
