      So paint sticks to Sinatra without primer.

    So I had a pattern for a legacy kit but I really want my first kit to be modern. As my first templates were too small I went with the next size up. My question. For your maroon/red kit, did you use 6 or 3 mil sintra? I know it's personal preference. Curious as to which you prefer and why. I love that this your first series back. I'm still intimidated with building my first kit. But this is instilling confidence

    • @StoneFistedProps
      @StoneFistedProps  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +FreeFall Customs i Used 3mm, On my Next Kit which will be Legacy I will Be using Both 6mm and 3mm And Layering.
      Thanks The Purpose of these videos is To Help Others Unlovk the "Mysteries" so to speak. Egen I started I was a vit Intimidated myself.
      And honestly in regards to Prefference tge reason I use 3mm Sintra is That its easier to cut with a Box cutter. 6mm requires a Dremel or Scroll saw.

    I was wondering what paints you used to prime the armor and what did you use to seal it?

    • @StoneFistedProps

      For the Base I used Rattlecan Krylon Primer, and I sealed the Armor with a Krylon Clear coat in Satin Finnish

    Hey man,
    The black layer of paint, is it a basic paint made for plastic or is it a black primer? Thought of using a black primer after the metallic silver because of the main color that will be painted at the end. Greetz!

    • @StoneFistedProps
      @StoneFistedProps  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I Used Krylon Black Flat, but there is no reason you cant use a Black primer

  • @scottroberts1323
    @scottroberts1323 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    do you have to use a primer coat before painting or are there some paints that you don't have to use a primer coat with or already have a prime coat mixed in with them ?

    • @StoneFistedProps
      @StoneFistedProps  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That all depends on the Base color of your Sintra. I Sometimes skip Priming Pieces depending on the final look. However, you will get a much better result if you Prime your parts.
      There are Brands such as Krylon Maxx and Rustoleum that Have a Primer paint Mix.
      Just make sure you Are using a Paint made for Plastics. Also, I suggest Whatever Brand you start with. That you stay will that Brand all the way through. Different manufacturers React Differently when Mixed.
      Hope that Helps

    What brand of masking fluid did you use? I tried Winsor & Newton and it was to watered down, nothing like the masking fluid you show. Great job on your videos my Mando Suit still turned out cool but my next one will be better after I get the masking fluid correct

    • @StoneFistedProps
      @StoneFistedProps  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Matt, The Masking fluid I use is the Windsor and Newton Brand from Walmart. However the Walmart in my area have since stopped carying it. Good thing I have a healthy supply. I haven't had an issue with it being to runny in my option, make sure you shake it and also try scraping the inside of the container with the opposite end of your brush to make sure its well mixed.
      I have also heard good things about this:
      Daler-Rowney Masking Fluid
      www.dickblick.com/products/daler-rowney-masking-fluid/
      Although I have never used it myself.
      You can also use Non gel Toothpaste as well as Mustard. I myself don't like the mustard as I hate the smell and it can stain your lighter pieces a bit yellow.

    What would you use to glue the pic foam to flor mate foam?

    • @StoneFistedProps

      Barge contact cement. Apply a Thin even layer to bothe sides let stand (dry) for a couple minutes then press both surfaces together

    Great job - Nice to know even the pros can run into that orange peel!! Quick question - I think i missed it, but what is the purpose of aluminum foil over masking tape?

    • @StoneFistedProps
      @StoneFistedProps  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +James Hannon tnanx for your Continuwd support. To answer youe Question. The Aluminum foil Is Used To cover larger surfaces alongside masking tape. It also minimizes the chance the adhesive could mess up the surface. The other Benefits are that you can cover large hard to form surfaces and its cheap.

    • @JamesHannonAuthor
      @JamesHannonAuthor 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Nedd. I get that it maintains shape over large areas, but what about the edges? Isn't it a flimsy edge?

    • @StoneFistedProps

    When I sanded my plates I don’t think I sanded it smooth enough because when I painted the silver coat I can see the lines from sanding :( I tried 400 grit sandpaper to smooth it but it didn’t help. Should I get a softer grit like 500 or 600?

    • @StoneFistedProps
      @StoneFistedProps  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, You could Also Wetsand with 1000 grit. To get it smooth.

    How many coats of each color and how long between coats?

    • @StoneFistedProps
      @StoneFistedProps  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      VeteranZapman GTA that All Depends, I Do A Coat O Silver undercoat, Then A Light clearcoat to look it in. I wait ruff 24 hours then I start Masking And Applying Several Light Coats, with Masking Between Color Changes. I Usually Give Each specific Color Ruffly 24 Hours Between. Then After Doing The Weathering Dirt Pass I lock it In with a Clear coat.
      Once I Start the Series Up Again I will Actually Cover this More in Depth.
