But after watching this video I got inspired and took off about two inches from the ends of my hair, and it already looks and feels so much better that I don't even care that I lost some length. So thank you for giving me the courage to go ahead and take off the ends, with the encouragement that it'll both help with growing it out and make it look better in the meantime! I thought it was only me who thought these things, but what a relief you've said all this! I have people say 'you're so dramatic' - no it's just the truth if you want good hair! x
The trim thing is so true. I used to shop at this one grocery store for like 2 years when I lived in Dallas and there was this girl who worked there who had the worst split ends I've ever seen. Her hair started out normal at the top but just sort of fanned out at the ends until it was so wispy and scraggly that there was no definite END to it. I could tell she was trying to grow it out and hadn't cut it in a long time but I didn't see it get any longer over the 2 years I lived there, it just looked the same the whole time. I really wanted to chloroform her and trim all that crap off.
Ohhhh, my GOSH, Brittney!! Somehow you showed up on my recommended. I'm so happy for finding you!! I am crazy about your suggestions, but even more so, I LOVE your honesty!!! I soo wish you were closer, cause I would do a small "field trip" to see you, but it's just too far. THANK YOU FOR SHARING your knowledge with us! May you have a Blessed week!
Krr Brr - Really?? Man, that is crazy, it made a world of difference on my hair. But with that said, my hair was put through years of abuse, from all the highlighting, flat ironing, wearing clip in extensions - all of it really took it's toll and created an extensive amount of damage to my all ready dry hair. I started out using Deva Curl's "Low-Poo" shampoo and their "One" Conditioner every morning - and then I did their ultra conditioning moisture masks about 2-3 times a week. I stopped using it because frankly it is fairly expensive - but for me, it was worth every penny, as it seriously transformed my hair within about a month's time... (BTW - It's kind of weird how we each have "KB" initials!)
Kelley Broussard Mackaig yeah i mean it sadly :(. And my hair is bleached blonde and very thin. But if you want to keep your bleached/highlighted hair healty, you should use hair masks once or twice a week. And you should always use conditioner when wash your hair. And dont brush it when its dry dry. This is gonna make e HUGE difference :)
The As I Am coconut co-wash is also good if you have dry hair and it's so cheap. I use the no poo and one condition delight too and to limit the amount I use I purchased the co-wash. It's honestly helped my hair so much. My hair is thick, and it was chemically dried. Combination of those products and limiting heat usage saved my hair and it helped it grow. My hair hadn't been growing for years and after using them I can already tell that it's growing.
I have virgin hair. I'm currently a month on no poo but i think im gonna go back. You NEED one of those like really thick bristle wooden brushes to spread out the oils, otherwise its just gonna be greasy. Then i co-wash the ends with conditioner to keep it hydrated.
i had to pause this vid to comment this...... you are very inspiring, watching this video makes me realize so much about my daily habits. i was so confused to why my hair falls out so much and why my skin and nails felt and looked like it was not taken care of. i would do and try everything to "take care" of my self but it was like i was just getting worse. life style change is a must for me, i know that now. cuz my hair and skin show it. not only you help but many other professionals on TH-cam that care to warn other people about how to take better care of them self. P.s you are not rude, being blunt is being honest, and that's the nicest thing you can do.
Of course cut your hair when you need it but you don’t have to cut it to grow your hair. I haven’t cut my hair in 4 yrs besides cutting split ends of course but I put oils in my hair and I have curly hair. I shampoo once a week and condition it a couple times a week. That’s it. I oil my hair every Sunday and deep condition the next day after washing it. If you take care of your hair you won’t have damaged hair.
Thanks Brittney ❤️ I have always had long, thick wavy hair and had no problem growing it. But 18 months ago I lost my husband. Since then my hair has become thinner. I couldn’t understand why, but I haven’t been eating properly, not sleeping well and drank too much wine ( though I have stopped drinking), I realize now I need to look after myself and eat healthier I have gone 4 sizes smaller in jeans. I wasn’t big to start with, but it has taken its toll on my hair. So thanks again I I will take your advice. Happy new year ❤
What if you don't have dry or split ends? Do you still need to cut it? The best way I personally have found to grow my hair out is to not cut it for at least 6 months.
I've watched this video for the first time about 8 months ago and since then I have followed (most of) the advice you gave. These tips really work! I also felt like my hair wasn't growing and it was quite damaged and eversince I have been incorporating these tips it's been getting better and better. My hair is starting to get loooong. Thank you so much for helping me change my hair ❤️
I'm a hairdresser and make up artist from the UK South Wales , I love watching your videos ! Thank you so much for teaching people how to care for their hair , I tell my cleints all the time . . I turned Vegan almost a year ago and I've found a huge difference in my hair condition and in effect iv been able to grow a few inches and iv cut it off and it's coming back lovely ... I've been hairdressing for 14 years. My mother and I own a salon . Xxxxxxx
Omg no not all of your hair goes through it at the same time otherwise you would be bald!! At any given time you have hair going through each stage which is why you always have growth AND shedding and not growth for a few. Years and then it all falling out and completely starting again. Many factors contribute to excess shedding but good lord I promise your hair isn't all falling out just some of it
@8:50 I was like somebody get sis a brush real quick lol. All jokes aside though, I loved the video. I was always curious as why you would have to cut hair to grow it but this cleared up any confusion!
Nutrition is soooo important it's insane. I use to have an eating disorder and use drugs and alcohol and my nails were super short and brittle and my hair was super thin and fell out constantly, giving up those things and going vegan for just a few months has made my hair almost twice as thick and my nails stronger and longer :)
I tried this to help me grow out all of my old box color hair dyes and it worked!!!! I would have it cut into a bob every month and over time I noticed that my hair was growing longer because I didn’t have dead ends just breaking off all the time.
PLEASE continue to grace your staffs, clients and business with positivity, love and realistic education. This earned you a like and subscribe from me. Xoxo
Exogen is an additional stage. This is a stage when the hair is resting or dormant. This is also a stage that can actually destroy the follicles if people do not follow all the food recommendations you Brittney makes. This also could happen due to aging when you perhaps don't have the circulation you need to stimulate a growing cycle. Keep the circulation of your scalp going.
omg please do a shampoo technique vid i have super fine hair that gets ravaged when i use even the gentlest shampoos, i notice my hairdresser gets so much more volume from my bangs and i think it has to do with the technique of washing and scrubbing it without stripping... love your channel!!!
Awesome! Brittany, thank you for all of this knowledge. I learned so much. I will make that lifestyle change. I also love that you know how important it is to nourish your body.
Thank you Brittney, I appreciate you & these videos. A lot of this I'm excited to know that I knew intuitively & am still learning so much. I'd like to see the shampoo video please
Great video as always. Can you please do a video on maintaining your hair while you workout. The struggle is real to have nice hair and workout regularly.
I’m a new subscriber and I’m in love with all your videos! I just want to start the journey of growing my hair in the healthier way possible and this video is just what I need. Thanks 😊
I see hair stylists always say if you want long hair to trim it, but everyone I know who has grown their hair out has never trimmed it. My sister went from hair above her shoulders to hair down to her butt in like 2 years and I asked her what she did and she just said to not cut it.
well, it is important to cut of damaged hair. Split ends cant be fixed and they will travel upwards. I imagine it's like a wooden plank that already has a crack down the middle. If you step on it it will break. An intact plank however will be able to take a lot more. As long as you dont have split ends you dont really need to cut your hair. If the damage is not concentrated on the ends you can also take the time to s&d. Basically go though your hair and individualy cut out all the split ends. (with sharp hair cutting scissors ofc)That way you dont lose any length at all. Damaged ends tend to grab onto other hair as well. This can create tangles and further damage. Plus it just doesn't look or feel very nice imo. (be aware though that product buildup can make your hair do velcro things as well. In that case just shampooing your ends will get rid of that.) How damaged your hair gets depends on how you treat it (and on your genes). Bittney said to cut you hair every 3 months. I think that's overkill unless your hair is super damaged and the ends keep breaking off. (bleaching your hair to much and extreme heat can lead to this) If your hair is fairly healthy you're better of not trimming it a lot (I recomend trimming of only 2 mm or so if you want to maintail a thick hemline) and s&d-ing to get rid of split ends.
I am one of those girls where my hair does not grow! But hearing your list there are definitely some things that I can do better that I do not do now. I was thinking about getting my hair cut short and trying to grow it out and after hearing this I think I will try it. Heres hoping!
I'm deffinetley guilty of being a daily washer. I know it's so bad and I've really been trying not to do it but it's so hard for me. But I just try to tell myself "would you want somewhat dirty hair, or no hair at all." I donated 14inches of hair (never been dyed) 2 years ago and I'm still trying to grow it back to the same length I had it before, which was down to my belly button. I drink TONS of water and deep condition regularly. I'm trying my best because I miss my long hair so much.
This is your BEST look. Love your hair colour/makeup. Dark hair suits you SO MUCH. I buzzcut my hair a month ago after years of box dye black. Turns out my natural hair is ashy black already. I need to stop daily washing though just love my hot showers lol 💦🧖♀️
if you've had ratty damaged hair for a year and you think it's not growing, it's because as it grows, it breaks off at the ends. I chopped mine off because i noticed this was happening, now its growing so fast i have to keep trimming it every 2 weeks until all the color is out so i can grow it out naturally :) I love listening to your vlogs while i work, specially your story time videos.
i think my hair is so healthy that i didn‘t need to cut it after 4 months. it only felt a tiny but damaged in the ends. this time i‘ll try to wait at least 6 months
Britney I am an ex-hippie (still a hippy) who has always had long hair. I play Blues Harp and write songs. Am, almost, 65 yrs old, been a type 1 (insulin dependent) diabetic) since 1974, sometimes beard, always mustache. My last hair cut was roughly 10 yrs ago (wasn't writing it down) it is now, just, short of shoulders. I am trying to eat right, use coconut, tea tree oil, and shea butter. My hair is greying and starting to fall out (shed). I got here from a search for how to grow long hair. My question is How?.
Actually... speaking about science... for the washing stuff, science shows that sebum is a major cause of inflammation of the scalp (because of Malassezia growth for example) and inflammation of the scalp (sometimes it can be noticed threw dandruff and dermatitis) can lead to thinning and shedding of the hair (thus causing hair to be harder to grow). Of course, science also shows that friction is a big cause of hair damage, so it's better to wash often, but gently and of course condition the hair. So if a girl has an oily scalp it's definitely better for her to wash it to grow her hair than not wash it in my opinion and it's the opinion of most dermatologists actually.
about the split ends, you can mend them with things like olaplex, and as long as you consistently work on this, and can make them work, I don't think you need a trim. Especially when you just explained the hair cycles. You're just going to regrow a new healthy hair where the split end hair was
In my experience split ends don't stop your hair from growing. And getting a trim every time i got split ends would dry me of money and make me bold because I get split ends two weeks after a hair appointment.
I love how you said to the stylists...don't just process your clients hair to make your môney. I had this happen to me a few month ago. The stylist said she was going to color correct my hair (which now, looking back didn't make sense because she was removing dark brown and then dying it medium brown) but she did say it was to get the "box color" out (I was using wella from Sally's). The result...she burned half of the hair on one side of my head!! It was a nightmare...my hair is still so damaged and the growing process feels like it's taking forever. Obviously she made her money on me that day, but i would never go back and would never refer her to anyone. Please stylists, understand that this is a business like any other, don't think about how much money you can make today but how much this new client will give you over years of repeat service, not to mention referrals. Thankfully I think most stylists know this, and I just extremely unlucky by going to her that day.
Grace Jeffrey yeah I had a terrible experience recently with a “color correction” I would have been better off with my dark color because atleast then my hair would be healthy!! My hair is literally falling out AND breaking off. I’ve been box dying for years and it’s never happened to me like it is now after getting my hair “professionally” dyed a few weeks ago. So frustrating and awful!!
Please do a video on deep conditioners. Idk where to start or what ingredients/brands to look for. My hair is in a grow out pixie phase and i want to make sure it grows healthy. Its also slightly wavy with thick hair follicles. What would you recommend?
I've had waist length hair for 5+ years, and today I cut it above shoulder length (10 inches shorter). It's sad that I'm back here so soon because I already miss it.
Haha I was the same, I literally never cut my hair when I was young and now at 21 I cut it to my shoulders so I'm trying to grow it out again. At least I got it healthy but I don't see my hair growing as fast as it used to.
Oil in hair is great as a deep conditioner, but it's nourishing, not hydrating. If you want to keep hydration in hair use aloe vera, or yogurt, or honey, and allow the hair to air dry.
I agree with Brittany with everything except with the hair cut every three months, if you get the big cut at the beginning of your hair journey and follow all her tips your hair will be healthy you won’t have any splits therefore you won’t need a trim! You can go two years before needing a scissors ✂️ touching your hair!
I love your haircut. Can you do a video explaining how you cut your hair. I want that look but not sure what to tell the hairstylist. Love your videos.

After your video I chopped my hair and am committed to grow it long and healthy. Gonna take a long time but it 's a process :-D
You give me Ayesha Curry/Sarah Hyland vibes.

How do you feel about no poo?
Kara Bear ı personally think its bullshit. I tried it for a while and it didnt make any good difference
So you said you shouldn’t wash your hair too much but what about not washing it enough, is that a thing
Thanks for the tips! Your hair looks beautiful!
MariniSol thank you and you're welcome!
Brittny is facial structure goals
My hair is very healthy and mid thigh length, I haven't cut it in many years. Trimming/cutting is not always necessary.
Happy new year ❤
"My hair is an extension of my soul" YES! OH MY GOD BEEN SAYING THAT FOREVER!
The length and color of your hair looks amazing here
Thanks for the tips britt ! Would love to see your work on curly, kinky, tight hair !

I appreciate this video so much, I'm one of those girls that swears my hair doesn't grow.. thank you!
What if you don't have dry or split ends? Do you still need to cut it? The best way I personally have found to grow my hair out is to not cut it for at least 6 months.
Brittney, your channel is like a hidden gem within TH-cam. Thank you for your educational tips 💞
Xxxxxxx

My hair has been shedding for almost 3 years not 3 months..
Slightly Misdirected then you need to treat hair properly ...
You might be deficient in certain minerals and/or vitamins.
take vitamins
Slightly Misdirected TH-cam the vegetable police. Very insightful
I am so glad I found your channel! You seem so educated in both hair and just in general
I use rice water to grow my hair out and its working really well but i dont really know how many times a week i should put it in my hair
1x a week for healthy n 1x a mnth if its dry
You really look like Mila Kunis to me!

I'm binge watching your videos! I love how honest you are
I love the comment you made "just think about your hair"! Genious
I tried this to help me grow out all of my old box color hair dyes and it worked!!!! I would have it cut into a bob every month and over time I noticed that my hair was growing longer because I didn’t have dead ends just breaking off all the time.
Yes please make a how to properly shampoo video 💞💖💕💆🏼♀️
I also love that you know how important it is to nourish your body.
omg! I requested this video :D Thank youuuuuuuu
you're welcome! Your wish is my command!
Yes!! Shampoo video! I’m going in to perform a demo at a nice salon, I’d love to know your technique 💕 Thank you
I don't dye, heat, blow dry or put any chemicals in my hair and it has never looked better it's the longest and healthiest it's ever been
Thank you Brittney, I appreciate you & these videos.
In that case just shampooing your ends will get rid of that.)
How damaged your hair gets depends on how you treat it (and on your genes). Bittney said to cut you hair every 3 months. I think that's overkill unless your hair is super damaged and the ends keep breaking off. (bleaching your hair to much and extreme heat can lead to this)
If your hair is fairly healthy you're better of not trimming it a lot (I recomend trimming of only 2 mm or so if you want to maintail a thick hemline) and s&d-ing to get rid of split ends.
I am one of those girls where my hair does not grow! But hearing your list there are definitely some things that I can do better that I do not do now. I was thinking about getting my hair cut short and trying to grow it out and after hearing this I think I will try it. Heres hoping!
Yes! Do a how to shampoo your hair properly video!! I am loving your videos!
AMAZING VIDEO!! Thank you sooo much. I'm 22 and balding. I'm desperate for hair advice and this helped a lot.
if you've had ratty damaged hair for a year and you think it's not growing, it's because as it grows, it breaks off at the ends. I chopped mine off because i noticed this was happening, now its growing so fast i have to keep trimming it every 2 weeks until all the color is out so i can grow it out naturally :)
I love listening to your vlogs while i work, specially your story time videos.
i think my hair is so healthy that i didn‘t need to cut it after 4 months. it only felt a tiny but damaged in the ends. this time i‘ll try to wait at least 6 months
I quit washing my hair and just use conditioner. Hair is happy and growing quickly.
you need a clean scalp in order to have healthy hair and growth. if you don't wash it your pores are closed
Ayy hannibal
Try macadamia oil instead of conditioner. As conditioner adds to the build up.
It is very clean and washing strips the natural oil.
You look amazing and your make up is stunning. Only just found your channel, but really liking the content.
Hey girl! Could you explain the difference between hydrating your hair and moisturizing it? Thank you so much!!!!!!
I'd love to see that shampoo tutorial!
about the split ends, you can mend them with things like olaplex, and as long as you consistently work on this, and can make them work, I don't think you need a trim.
Love this girl. She gives the best tips.
Please do a video on deep conditioners. Idk where to start or what ingredients/brands to look for. My hair is in a grow out pixie phase and i want to make sure it grows healthy. Its also slightly wavy with thick hair follicles. What would you recommend?
Dina Quintanilla pure argan oil, on the ends. Leave it on for half an hour or so, then wash as usual. Very soft, shiny, beautiful hair :)
Thank you so much for your videos and sharing your knowledge. I really enjoy them!
love you talking about food and lifestyle choises!
Best hair growth advice video ever
I'm so happy i found this video because I thought something was wrong with me. Suddenly alot of hair was falling out
Oil in hair is great as a deep conditioner, but it's nourishing, not hydrating. If you want to keep hydration in hair use aloe vera, or yogurt, or honey, and allow the hair to air dry.
How often should you trim when you're growing out your hair? Thank you for the informative tips :)
She said every 3 months
I agree with Brittany with everything except with the hair cut every three months, if you get the big cut at the beginning of your hair journey and follow all her tips your hair will be healthy you won’t have any splits therefore you won’t need a trim! You can go two years before needing a scissors ✂️ touching your hair!
I love your haircut. Can you do a video explaining how you cut your hair. I want that look but not sure what to tell the hairstylist. Love your videos.
