Lake Powell is no joke when the storms come in. I have seen hundreds of tents in piles on the beaches and a few boats cap sized. 8th wonder of the world! Absolutely beautiful!

One tip my dad always told me and I have found to be true. When setting up your tent and even parking your truck you should always have your head set up above your feet. Almost looked like your head was downhill in your tent set up. Only said as advice I found helpful as you are very good at everything you do and keep it up!

Here is my story and a bit of advice. My first trip to Arizona I got great advice from my aunt when traveling off road in the desert. She told me if I ever got stick in sand to find mesquite bushes and cut off branches then stick them under my tires. I was stuck pretty good having to dig out a lot of the sand packed under my tires. I then followed my aunts advice using the mesquite branches and got out. I appreciate that you share your faux pas. Fortunately, it worked out and provided the opportunity to meet some great people.
I like these Minimalist Mavrik camping episodes. Reminds me of how we did it in Boy Scouts back in the last century. We had less stuff... an army surplus pup tent, ground tarp, sleeping bag, air mattress and maybe a red Coleman gas lantern that provided light in the campsite and heat in that little tent on cold nights. We shared a three-quarter axe to chop firewood and somebody would bring an 8 transistor radio so we could groove on The Doors, Three Dog Night or C.C.R. We cooked in tinfoil or maybe a little iron skillet on campfire coals. Man, we didn't know how good we had it.
