This is the correct way to refret. Not the stupid "don't sand my fretboard cos is vintage"... if is not in the correct radius and flat is not perfect. Now the new stupid thing... "don't polish my new frets... cos the guitar is vintage" Congrats to the luthier, good job 🎉
That is a very good tip about the bevel angle, and I wish I had seen this video earlier. I made the mistake of a 35 degree angle with my first refret fitting jumbo fretwire. I ended up with too narrow a fretboard and the E strings slipping off the neck. Great video, thank you very much for sharing.
Nice thorough work.. showing that there's no shortcuts to be taken for a great-looking job. I'm about to refret 2 Ibanez's with jumbo stainless-steel frets. (.118" X .055") ...any tips to share?!
@@curtrod the glue will wick itself into the middle of the fret. Ca glue will find and fill any voids in the fret slot. Not sure what your mean for your next question...
@andy after pulling frets you always do a little skim pass with a radius block to make sure the new frets seat properly the amount you take off doesn't effect the radius of the board what so ever because you're barely removing any material in the first place.

Great video Rick,I have 5 Roadstars, all are decent! I spread the love around on each one so none of them are worn badly! Cheers
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the show!

1.Take your time 2 Do a little at a time 3. Ask questions if unsure. I'm here for ya.
@@ricksworkbench1386 Always good advice! Thank you!
I have shark tooth inlays...would running the sanding block over the fret board hurt those at all? Also...what grit sanding paper did you use?
wouldnt hurt at all.
why didn't you put glue in the middle and only on the ends?, and do you really want to take off some of the fretboard when you bevel the ends?

Which one is the best fret Nickel sliver or stainless steel for ibanez jem jr guitar?
jescar nickel
Whats the sandpaper grit on the levelling beam?
320 i think.
wait why did you sand it all the way down i thought it was a replacement job...dioesnt that change the thickness of the neck?
You would have to sand a bit to change the thickness of the neck. I sanded till the neck was at the radius I needed.
Why did you sand the neck with a radius block if the neck already has the proper radius? A waste of material???
It needed it after pulling the frets. I always use the radius block when refretting so i have a nice clean flat surface to work with.

"how to take 4X longer to refret a neck by adding tedious extra steps"
extra steps? Like??
some people like to do things perfectly, apparently others do not
