MAZDA HAVE TAKEN THEIR SWEET TIME UPDATING THE MAZDA 3!!
Today we are reviewing the mid-life update - AKA Facelifted - 2024 Mazda 3, which brings a decent chunk of new changes to the model line-up to help keep it in the fight for best small hatchback (or optional Sedan). But with Mazda's focus on their Large Product Platform, seeing the likes of the CX-90 and CX-60, it's clear that Mazda have updated the Mazda 3 just enough. Is that enough to make it king? Let's talk about that in today's review!

I recently bought a demo model Mazda 3 Evolve with the 2.5 litre engine. It has a few quirks that have needled me a bit (the radio switches on whenever you turnover the engine and that can't be stopped and the I-stop system will sometimes not stop the engine for some reason) but overall I just LOVE it! It goes like a cut snake, especially in sport mode. The warning systems are not too intrusive (but the reverse sensors and cross traffic alert system are not quite as good as the ones on my VF Commodore) and the car is comfortable. Being naturally aspirated you need to keep revs high to go quickly in the car but that's not hard as the engine likes to rev. For those dropping down to a four from a straight or V6 the power delivery is not as slippery smooth and effortless but, jeeze, it's a lot of fun! It's also a stylish buggy, for sure and that "soul crystal red" colour is sublime (my car is the same colour). I don't have kids now so the back seat tightness is not an issue for me. The rear vision is not great but, hey, the car is a real head turner. The only other niggle is that silly system which tilts the driver side mirror down when you reverse...I don't like it but I am now used to it. Word of warning to all. If you only drive sporadically and leave the car unused for a couple of weeks you will find that the I-stop may not work unless you go for, at least, a half hour drive. The car uses a lot of battery power and it the power level is a bit down I-stop becomes a little cantankerous. Many people dislike I-stop systems so if you are one of those it won't bother you (to prevent I-stop you have to switch off when you first start the car but it will turn on again at the next start). Also beware that when it comes time to change the battery the stop-start batteries for these sorts of cars are pricier than your average high crank battery.
As to you two blokes. You are a breath of fresh air in the car reviewing space. I love your antics, your obviously strong friendship and your honesty. I look forward to every new video you post. As an old fart, I find them enormously entertaining. If I owned a tv network I'd be hiring you for a car show like "Aussie Top Gear." I would, however, call it "Two Blokes and a Car." Best wishes to you both. You make an old man happy. :)

I also suggest having more than one perspective about cars. 95% of reviewers are car nuts have that sporty dynamic handling perspective but customers vary widely in their priorities. Some people prefer softer suspension for daily commutes or have small families and want a gentler ride. That's my 2 cents.

I have a M6 G25 tourer, but soon the need for a large trunk and rear pax room will be obsolete (new family car will replace it), so I'll be looking into something bit smaller for mostly 1-2 up commuting and weekend trips, and I'm so happy with the G25 in my M6, that actually getting this in M3 sedan would be lovely (yeah, to my taste, the most beautiful cars from Mazda are M6 sedan / M3 sedan / M6 tourer 😀 )

He Mazda 2.5 4 Pot matched to that 6 speed auto is by far the most reliable engine - transmission duet on the planet. From personal experience you can scrub virtually all comparative offerings from all of VW, Audi and Mercedes's and any Mazda will surpass the German marques in terms of driver satisfaction, reliability, price retention and overall quality. Mazda in my humble experience outperformed all other marques in terms of the appeal of its models for the past 2 decades.

Mazda needs to increase the ground clearance on the Mazda3 from 5.5 inches to at least six inches (minimum). That way you won't scrape the front end on every driveway you attempt to enter.

It’s been RIP for the Corolla and the i30 since this was launched in 2019.
This is the best ice car I’ve owned. Before that I owned the gen 3 Mazda 3 (both astina variants), which was also great but the looks never sat right with me.
I’ve owned vw, Kia, Opel, Toyota and fiat cars and the Mazda’s beat them all in terms of the mix between driving dynamics, interior quality and reliability.
Have subsequently switched to an all Tesla household but still admire the looks everytime I see a gen 4 Mazda 3 around.
