    This video is going to be part of a series, focusing mostly on a single synth and some pedals on the small desk. I've done these before of course, with the Lyra-8, Iridium Desktop, Elektron boxes etc and recently I started doing this again with the Novation Summit while I was programming some new sounds for it. it's fun and quite relaxing to just improvise with such a small setup as opposed to say doing stuff in the DAW where i have to consider which synths to use/load up, choosing FX for each track, mixing as I go etc etc. Having the one synth on the desk for a few days also encourages me to design a bunch of brand new sounds for each synth, which in turn helps with another project - to release some presets! So anyway, they'll be plenty more of these in the future, though for now I've just moved the eurorack back onto this desk for the modular patch.

      been patiently waiting for some State Azure preset packs and i'm sure you'll have loads of interested parties. but more importantly, can't wait to see the rig back in the picture as tedious as it may be to patch the whole thing. Modular Works V was life-changing and even got the whole family into your music.

      Really liking these videos of 1 synth on the desk.
      I actually used the Modwave the other day for a couple of hours. I also downloaded the demo version vst. I actually thought the VST version was much better to work with. I've always gone the hardware route so found it odd preferring the VST of the Modwave.
      I have the Wavestate hardware and VST version but with that one I prefer the hardware 100%.

      This is amazing, just so relaxing to listen to. Would you ever consider doing a tutorial showing noobs like me how this is all linked up and how it works? I have the synths to do stuff like this, just not the knowledge yet…. Like how to sync up with each other via MIDI clock etc still confuses me….and what order each instrument is routed through each other. A small video just explaining the ins and outs of even one of your videos like this one, would be absolutely amazing and invaluable to me.

    • @stateazure
      @stateazure  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@darkcognitive I don't really do tutorials, but this set up is very simple and there's absolutely no syncing or MIDI to worry about. It's really just the Opsix audio routed into the pedals and recorded into the DAW. Even the DAW isn't important here, because the DittoX4 and Cosmos can do the looping, the DAW is just for recording the audio.

    I love that you use really expensive stuff, and then you have really affordable stuff. It all works. I am trying to set up a basic thing, since I'm not really a piano player. I have a Microfreak, and a couple of controllers. I also have a Werkstatt, and a Behringer Crave. I have a Microcosm and a Strymon Nightsky, that I bought specifically for synth experiments. But I'm starting to see plugins as a useful thing, now that I have that same MAC that you have. My only regret was not spending the extra for 16 gbs of RAM. I only got 8. Thanks for inspiring me to think I could maybe make some beautiful synth music, too..Thanks for all of your hard work. The only problem is, you make it all look so damn easy. lol!

    • @stateazure
      @stateazure  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! I'm always telling people that the equipment doesn't really matter much. My best music is made on software only with cheap plugins. I think 8gb on your Mac will still be plenty enough to do music with, you might just run into trouble if you use too many samples/sample libraries etc

    • @sandyturner1911
      @sandyturner1911 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stateazure Thanks for that. I'll keep that in mind, about the sampling. I got an Akai LPD8 and the Beats software, for drums.

    I’ve ordered the Cosmos to go with the Microcosm, plus the new H90, I’ve got the Magneto in a rack but need to look at the other Strymon pedals a bit more closely, it’s all a bit of a minefield, you are a bit of an inspiration I really like watching your videos 👌🏼

    • @stateazure
      @stateazure  ปีที่แล้ว

      With the H90 you probably wont need any others, I have one on order too. My favourite hardware reverb was the Eventide Space which the H90 has covered and imo beats the Big Sky for ambient music, I've no doubt the H90 will have amazing delays and other FX too. The Microcosm into the Cosmos is a really nice combination, since the Cosmos grabs all those cool sounds Microcosm spits out and merges them into a soundscape.

    • @datapusher-
      @datapusher- ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lee, you wont be disappointed. I have the cosmos, and some of this gear he has (I am NOT state azure's level by any means). I personally like strymon nightsky for ambient style reverb like this. If you want to hear some of my work, I have an ambient channel where I explicitly make solfeggio tones with all sorts of keyboards, modular, and various instruments...

    Perhaps an odd question but how do you keep your instruments looking that spotless? Even with all my efforts I still see dust on mine in the right light but yours always look like they came right out of the box.

    • @stateazure
      @stateazure  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah it's hard man, I freaking hate dust! A lot of my synths, those on my stands and my small desk which you see in this video are covered all the time when not in use. My stands are covered by drum kit covers, and the desk by a simple fabric cover. For dusting I use a fairly soft barbers neck brush, which is amazing for getting between knobs/sliders etc. and an ostrich feather duster for doing larger areas if needed.

    A wonderful performance! I am afraid that I will need to get a Cosmos! Is it correct to assume that you did most of the looping with it in this set?

    • @stateazure
      @stateazure  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, Martin! It was only used from around 27 mins onwards, but included the flute and bell improvisations after that point. I think around 31 min onwards demonstrates the typical kind of Cosmos playback after recording those. Cosmos is definitely not for standard looping, it's more fun/creative/random but makes for very interesting drifting and diffused soundscapes. For more standard looping I used the E520 and DittoX4 earlier in the video.
