I get it's not your language but their last name is pronounced "peh-leh-kye" with the end sounding like "die" or "lie" The way I interpret the last name is that in the Hawaiian language "pele" means lava/magma and "kai" is the sea, when the two meet it's tumultuous and chaotic but in the process creates new land for life to flourish; representing the sister's relationship very well (this may possibly also reference the eternally feuding goddesses of Pele (fire, volcanoes, heat, etc.) and Nāmaka-okahaʻi (water & sea))
