As a fellow guitarist I just want to say that your playing is so refreshing and ethereal. I absolutely love the fact that you play in so many different tunings and your percussion - when used - is incredibly unique! As far as acoustic guitarists go, I think only *Michael Hedges* is on the same level as you and I hope you don't mind this, but I feel that what you have done for the acoustic guitar is akin to what *Jimi Hendrix* and *Eddie Van Halen* have done for the electric. Anyway, I just wanted to say a huge *THANK YOU* for all the great music that you have given this world... you truly are an amazing talent, *Kaki*!!!
Did you ever listen to Julian Bream, Andres Segovia or David Russell. Kaki King, while being a great musician, is a mediocre guitarist at best compared to the names I mentioned.
kiekiek
Yes, I have listened to Breams and Segovia and studied classical with *Douglas Niedt* - a Segovia student -, but what *Kiki* does is so outside the box of _normal_ guitar playing that it's really intriguing and interesting. That she comes up with these ideas is something to be appreciated and that she plays them so flawlessly is magnificent!
kiekiek I have to agree with you. She's excellent in every way, but there's a hell of a crowd of far superior guitarists out there. BTW, you left Don Ross out of your list!
@kiekiek
You see, when you start talking of superiority, mediocrity and flat out badness as complete, absolute values as it is implied here, that's when you need to think long and hard on what gives importance to such evaluations and what substance dos it have to make such distinctions. While I do not buy into the whole everything is subjective therefore everything is good (fuck pseudocontemporary art), you gotta ask yourself if pointing out the obvious (that there are a host of other musicians with more complex technical abilities than this or that other individual musician) is important at all. Dr death commented refelcted not on her technical skill, but on her innovation. You are not even in the same page as him, discussing the same things that he is.
Second, and even though it is a proven fact that internet discussions unless previously agreed upon, usually never derive in either party granting the other some reason, I would like you to reflect on my question. I bet my ass Alice Ott is one hell of a better pianist than Segovia, but that does mean that because of the fact that Segovia (And I'm just pulling this one out of thin air, perhaps he is a good pianist for all I know) cannot play piano as well; if at all, take away any merit from his own accomplishments, much less if it makes sense to do such a comparison.
Morderischen Well, I did point out that Kaki King is a great musician, so I don't completely understand your comment. Of course Kaki King has a great style and makes innovating music that I love, I never called Bream superior, only he has mastered the guitar in a way that Kaki King will probably never achieve, but I don't degrade her by any means
This was beautiful, I loved the way she creates these mazes and escapes from them so creatively and stylishly, really classy.
Romulo Ferreira that is the best description of her music I have ever read. 👏👏👏
you may compare her with all of the guitarists from the past and present, but at the end of the day she's Katherine Elizabeth King and this is what she does! she's a musical phenomenon..
First song in a while that I've immediately replayed.
On one hand, she's a crazy inspiration to me, and on the other hand, she sort of just wants to make me stop trying
People like us never realize how good we are until someone else shows us our fingers are bleeding.
Damn a full metal fingerboard... Love how it makes it look like a 12 string
The title goes so well with the song. When those kind of out of place notes during the descending of the chorus really give it the incomplete aspect in a like beautiful way i love this song
Listening to this after about 4 years, this is a gem ♥️
Kaki King you inspire me to take my craft to new levels. I'm a writer, but I can appreciate what you do for what it truly is. You could have sold out a thousand times over, but you didn't. You make music because it's what you love doing, not because you want to be rich or famous, and it shows. Your music is pure and undiluted by society. It's the kind of music that will still be listened to 500 years from now when all the pop bands of the past are long forgotten. Keep doing what you love, and never let anyone tell you otherwise!
Beautiful as always Kaki!
I saw you once In Minnesota, you played amazing and are so lovely!
this is so beautiful
... sweet ... energic ... fantastic ...
Incredible. Great artist.
oh wow sublimely magical...utterly beautiful
John Rijsdijk linked me to this upload (thanks John). What a smooth performance, fingerstyle on it's best. The music creates a certain kind of melancholy.and it makes me wanna float in it, very temptative. Thanks for the upload !
İ m in love with her guitar and nails .🥰☺😂
The way the queen glances inside my soul at 2:23 right before percussion begins makes a little water come out of my eyes
Beautiful song. Beautiful video.
Saw her live again last week. Wonderful performance.
beautiful flow of harmonies, great solo piece
A subdued and contemplative piece! Thought you were on a 12 string for a moment but it's the reflection of the strings on the fret board of that interesting guitar. A delightful and appropriate use of black and white in the video. Tthe staggered imagery part way through makes for an interesting change.
Oh. Mah. Gawd. How have I never heard of you before? Outrageous playing. Totally lovely.
+Jay Mueller ever see the movie August rush? if you have, then you've indiscreetly heard of her.
Thanks, Kaki.
A very haunting melody.
Very beautiful.
Music to road trip the whole world....
Amazing! Surreal art of sound!!!

I could cry...
I like, I like!!! And look at that fret board.
Positively stunning ( :

I love Kaki King so damned much
love the skills perfection as usual
So very lovely, well done!
How can this comment be 9 years old if the video itself was uploaded 7 years ago? 😲🤔
@@carllindqvist6790 Oh Hi Jonas, aren't you supposed to have closed the loop and vanished 🤔

which guitar is that?
*wonders how super strong those plucking nails are*
Your videos do you like Joe Death
The 'Enya' of acoustic guitar. Awesome.
Magnifique... J'aimerais trop avoir les partitions
i think is correct your title... is right!
kaki
Why the metal fretboard?
Kaki King - "No True Masterpiece Will Ever Be Complete" - "Glow"
Listening to monochrome in stereophonic.
chords please me like it.
Are these fingernails for real??
Nope, instead of finger picks, out trying to grow nails out, many guitarists will use glue on nail tips (James Taylor, does this)
Ear blood medicine
I Love u...
Her compositions are very nice, but i feel they are a bit directionless.
I can agree with you in a way. I do feel like that maybe the expression of lacking direction is the art in and of itself. Maybe that's the point of it. It's just a picture of a moment in time. Maybe it is sad, lonely, and content all at once. Maybe it just exists for the sake of existing and that is its sole purpose.
I'm not saying this was her intention but maybe if you interpret it this way, it can make the time listening to it more meaningful in some way.
Really good guitar playing but the melody is all over the place and well... is boring to me . But some parts are really nice and I like the sound effects in the backround. Kinda depressing. You also kinda look like a young Sinead O Connor.
She must have been single.
absolutely overrated :-\
Surrealistic sphere this song creates; the more I listen the more it draws me into it.
