Colleen I'm a professional baker. When looking for a cookie recipe, Google "cutout recipe" instead of "sugar cookie recipe." And try to find one that uses a stabilizer like xantham gum or agar powder (which you can find in the baking aisle of most grocery stores). Starches, like potato starch or corn starch are good stabilizers, too. (I can't give you my recipe because my work owns the copyright, but these are just some ingredients to look for in a good recipe.)

also Colleen if you get xanthan gum.. if it gets wet it becomes VERY slippery like oil. so if you spill it on the floor vacuum it up DO NOT mop it up. (speaking from the time I spilt massive amounts of xanthan gum all over myself and became very slippery)

Hey there! I am a baker and cake decorator;) you need a no spread sugar cookie recipe that you can Google for sure;) also after you cut them, freeze them for about 15 - 20 minutes before putting them in the oven. You will be able to tell when they are chilled enough of you press into one and they are firm. Good luck!

MY NAME IS STARLA YOURE BEAUTIFUL AND HAVE A GREAT DAY
2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon baking powder
1 cup butter, softened
1 ½ cups white sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). In a small bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
Step 2
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth. Beat in egg and vanilla. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients. Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, and place onto ungreased cookie sheets.
Step 3
Bake 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden. Let stand on cookie sheet two minutes before removing to cool on wire racks.

Also freeze the dough for a couple minutes before you bake it and it will hold its shape better. After you've used the cookie cutter. I just stick them on the cookie sheet and put the whole thing in the freezer. Take em out and put them right into the oven.

Man, the part about mother’s day got me. I lost my mom 19 months ago, so it’s been hard. Usually I don’t get emotional, but when Colleen talked about hugging her mom, I thought of my mom. I know how it feels 💕💕

One thing I would definitely recommend doing for the cookies is after they are cut to put them in the fridge or freezer for 30 min

Yes! If your butter is too warm, they will spread and puff more than you want. Re-pressing is a great idea so it’s easy to see to ice along the lines. Good luck girl!! ❤️❤️
I freeze the sugar cookies on the baking sheet for 10 to 15 mins before putting straight in the oven. Works every time. They don't spread. :) Good luck

For a cookie recipe, I recommend finding a cookbook called "How to Cook Everything" Idk if it comes with the other book, but mine came with both that book and the vegetarian version of it. In the book, there is a recipe called "refrigerated or rolled cookies". That would be perfect for you to use with the car cookie cutters. Also, when you get the books, they have so many recipes you can experiment with. just yesterday, I made brownies from scratch and they turned out so well!!! Also, there is a recipe for butter cookies that you can't use a cookie cutter for in the book, but it is the best! my family and I love them so I make them almost every week!

For those cookie cutters: you can use any sugar cookie dough, but once you cut them out make sure to chill them for about half an hour before baking them! :)
Doesn’t work
I had the same problems with cookie cutters! Here’s the steps I used -
1) flatten the cookie dough and use the cookie cutters. 2) bake for 75%-80% of the time that the packaging tells you to. 3) pull out after 75%-80%, used the cookie cutters again because the shape will probably have been lost. 4) put back in the oven for the remainder of the time. Basically you use the cookie cutters twice, once in the beginning, and a second time 3/4 of the way through :)

Colleen, u have to put the dough in the fridge then put them in the oven. It will help it keep it’s shape. (We do it with Christmas cookies 🙂) Or make sure that the Dough is cold when u put it in the oven if u don’t have time to put it in the fridge before. 😊
Almost forgot, we use the pre made sugar cookie dough from the store but u can make ur own!

But as an Education major, I just wanted to let you know it’s important to model correct speech for Flynn! Even though he’s really young, it’s so important for him to hear correct pronunciation of words. His brain is working hard to make connections + expand his vocabulary. Ideally, don’t discourage him when he says “dar dar” (want to boost his self esteem + confidence) but DO emphasize the correct pronunciation so he gets it too! You’re a great mama and I love seeing Flynn grow into the happy little human he is 😌😊 just wanted to give you some constructive advise on speech development! Wishing you guys the best! 💕

Yessss Colleen I know a recipe that doesn’t spread and you can roll it as thick as you want and it’s a really good sugar cookie! Just not sure if you would read my message but it’s possible! I make sugar cookies and I cut shapes in the middle and put a jolly rancher to melt glass cookies and my dough never spreads

Keeping the dough super cold up until they go into the oven will help it keep its shape. Some people say to put them in the fridge but the freezer works best. Make the dough, cutt it into smaller sections and while working on one section freeze the rest, when cutt out put back in freezer, do that with all the dough and keep it in there until they go straight into the oven.

Hey Colleen!
Below is the sugar cookie recipe I use and it seems to be pretty versatile. And it's super quick and easy since you don't have to refrigerate. You just mix up the dough and go! Also I have a great recipe for almond icing that is to die for.
Almond Icing:
1 32 oz. Bag of powdered sugar
1 c. All Vegetable Shortening
1/3 c water
1 tsp almond extract
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp salt
Add shortening, water, salt, extracts and half of the bag if powdered sugar into the mixer. Make sure to mix the salt and extracts into the water until salt it dissolves. Cream this on the lowest setting until most of the lumps are out. You can add a little but more sugar if it won't cream all the way. Stop the mixer and scrape the sizes and bottom of bowl. Start mixer on low and slowly add the rest of the powdered sugar until combined! You can also just double the vanilla instead of adding the almond and make vanilla icing and you can substitute butter extract for the almond to make butter flavored frosting that is delicious! **TIP: You can adjust the amount of water between 1/3-1/2 c depending on the climate you are in.
