@@myshadowrealm4u Hey! Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video! The fact that the visual style of SSO is all over the place I think is a bigger issue than people give it credit for. There is no cohesion, no feeling that all of these parts 'merge' to create a world. As a result immersion gets hurt, and people become disconnected from the world. I wish they could keep a consistency for the horses. But it feels more like the teams are in competition with who can bring out the 'best' horse. And that's not really how it should be XD

The JS cap is one of the worst offenders to me. When I started to play I never bought anything so I was constantly at the limit. Then a set came out I really wanted and I was only able to afford one saddle...
If the game allowed me to actually save more then 1k I would have been able to get the entire set, without having to grind the same quests and races soooo long.
I agree with everything you and the *content creators* in the video said.
There are so many serious issues with the game and I'm literally at a point in which I have *nothing* to do in the game. *Nothing* My horses are all level 15, I don't intend on buying a new one at any time soon and let's face it: Theres nothing else to do.
I even have all the Stars collected and all fossils, soooo...
    Oh and little Spoiler!
You get *nothing* for finding all the stars. No cutscene, no piece of tack or clothes, nor any achievement...

SSO's biggest problem is that they found a scheme that works well for earning money and they pushed it to the extremes. they're pushing it so badly that the rest of the game is being neglected to the pouty of no salvation.
now, every gaming company has /a thing/ that sells. for example sims sells dlc content that add onto the gameplay, gacha games sell characters, equipment, pets etc and for sso that /thing/ is horses. and there's nothing inherently wrong with that on the surface, there's ALWAYS gonna be people that buy every single item, or horse available because they can. they're the ones feeding money into the company and the ones that keep it afloat. however, if that's the only thing you as a developer put out as "content" without providing the actual gameplay where this stuff you bought can be used you're no longer developing a game. you're developing a money spending simulator where you can run on an open map. that's it. that's how you slowly kill your game and that's what pushes your "low spender" players away. hell even f2p ones. and you need those to keep the game alive, they're the backbone of the community and they're potential future customers as well, and sso is giving them less and less reasons to stay.
edit: forgot to add this but if the product you sell is the very reason players are turned away from the game you're doing something wrong. they could've had a high quality and great game if only they realized this and focused on the featured they want to implement.

I remember being in 3rd grade when I first started playing SSO... Today I'm close to turning 20 and there are still so many things that are missing despite being teased. I'm growing up interested in developing games and Star Stable is a massive reason as to why I aspire to become a game developer. This game has such big potential, but lately a lot of it, especially the story, has been feeling very messy. I play a lot of MMORPGs today, but Star Stable is the one I WISH I was playing more, but not even new story missions grab my interest anymore unfortunately.

My biggest broken promise is I remember sso saying they planned on doing something to memorize Violet Flowergarden (If someone here is confused: Violet Flowergarden was a very popular sso youtuber who passed away suddenly in January), I haven't seen anything for Violet and that kinda rubs me the wrong way bc she did so much for the community, and i'm still wrapping my head around the fact shes gone.

Dude, jeez. She only passed in February. It’s probably taking a while to do something bc SSO probably wants to make sure they get it right the first time. Would you rather have them take time to do something for Violet that’s completed and looks/functions good the first time it’s released, or would you rather have them release an unfinished thing that no one will be happy about? See, this is this community’s problem, y’all bash them and complain when they take too long to release something (bc they’re making it look good and function properly before releasing it), so then they release an unfinished product (the gen 3 friesians) and y’all turn around and get mad at them for releasing something half completed. Well what did you expect? You complained they were taking too long, so they released it early, then you complained it was unfinished, well ofc it was. It wasn’t ready for release yet 😂 Everyone in this community is just like privileged children that get everything they want from their parents when they want it, so they act as if they are the employers and SSO has to bow down to them and do everything they say

Maybe it would be cool to add a seat next to her so some of us could sit down and say our final goodbye. Or just give her a resting place. There's many ways you can go about it, but it's definitely needed at this point.

Star stable has become less about adventure and more about a pretty pony dress up game. I was an adult when I started playing these games (all the starshine legacy games & sso back in 2013) and I fell in love with the lore and the story (being a lover of rpg story games) now I hear that the quests have all changed and things have been removed and it’s completely destroyed the franchise for me. • @kristenrasmussen4135
      @kristenrasmussen4135 ปีที่แล้ว +13

Not sure if you play now but I'll explain just in case. It technically is "free" but only up to an extent. If you don't pay at all, you can still play, but are restricted to a tiny portion of the map and quests go quiet very quickly. There's nothing else to do but leave, pay if you're interested, or just chill with your horse for a few minutes when you log on for the handful daily quests or whatnot. You certainly can't buy even a fraction of the clothes, as many of them are level restricted and you can only go up to like level 5-8 without paying (and that's if the game gives you a few days of free membership, and if you grind your butt off to get as much progress as you can). I felt awful when my last day of free membership ran out, stayed with my horse for a few weeks after that, then abandoned the game until years later. To be honest, as much as I hate the company and their tactics, I still hold a subscription to play.

IMO, a big problem with SSE/SSO is how they remove things without adding stuff back in. Entire plotlines have been readjusted, shortened or removed in their entirety. Tasks have been removed. Reputation grind has been removed (such as the purple rift quest).
The bigges no-no in any game is removing things without refilling that gap in one way or another.
Someone who did this incredibly well was Toys for Bob when they remade Spyro the dragon, or Crash Bandicoot by Vicarious Visions. They took whatever content they had and breathed new life into the games, and while old graphics and style was removed, they kept the core assets and _added to them_ . The player wont feel like they have been ''robbed'', because whatever was taken away has been given back in some way or form; in most cases more are added than what was removed or altered in the first place.
When SSE/SSO ''updates'' their areas, functionalities, characters and storyline, more often than not they change the old to a point it is no longer recognizeable or they remove it in its entirety. That is what upsets me the most with this game. It is in a very poor taste for any corporation/developers and rightfully leaves long-time loyal players with a bitter taste in their mouths.
Add the broken promises, half-assed explanations and over-priced items that are basically NFTs catered to children and its no wonder why SSO recieves the backlash they get. They put themselves in this situation but lack the maturity and spine to adress their wrongs and properly fix them. Actions speak louder than words and so on.

the reputation one needed to unlock the next quest was a *ton* and i'm pretty sure one could even fail the minigames and lost out on those points for the day, which only made the quest go on even longer, and since it was blocking a story quest (iirc), it just made the game very frustrating

It's one thing for an influencer/content creator to throw things around, cancel it, and yo-yo about. I can understand that-- if a content creator plans a meet or contest and nixes it, it's mildly annoying but fairly 'eh'.
But this is a company. SSO is a company, it's not even comparable. In my private projects, I do exactly like SSO does, but I'm not fandangling large amounts of money from people nor do I have a large team full of competent people available to me. Everything they're doing screams unprofessional and not serious.
Whenever SSO makes an announcement for something new, I just go 'nah' at this point. I'll be excited when I see it in-game, not a moment before. Which is super sad, because the hype has always been my favourite thing, yet it doesn't matter anymore. The few genuinely good things are overshadowed by endless blunders I'm not sure they can ever outrun.
Edit: Look, conclusion from my side has, and will always be, that this is a management issue and someone needs to dunk the leadership at SSO in some Stop It, Open Them Ears Juice.

I could mention even more things they teased or promised that I'm sure of everyone here forget about: Lisa's secret mission when we and Alex were looking for the starbreed that contained the reborn Concorde's spirit. We were supposed to find out what Lisa has been up to between our mission to find Concorde and saving Concorde from Ydris. Or the removal of the Kallters from Dino valley. They created a new quest with them where they were leaving to head home to their homeland. They teased big stuff that was going to happen around that mystery and that roar end of 2018. It was for 2019 so that was very misleading. Or what about the unfinished questline with Herman? Yes we brought him home last year, but what is going to happen now? Are we still going to stop GED from destroying the Harvest Counties? Or find out why they allianed themselves with Darkcore? And why Darkcore needed Herman within the deal of buying Drakonium from GED? So many questions we might not get an answer to anytime soon. I'm very invested in the story even tho I barely play the game anymore. It was part of my childhood so I'm very diseapointent they never continued any of these storylines. Then there was also the promise of the other two parts of Mistfall. Originally Wildwoods was supposed to become North Mistfall split in two parts. But they skipped the whole idea of creating the mountains of Jor in to one area and created Wildwoods. Sure it's a beautiful area with a couple of mysterious, but there's not much interesting lore about it. I wanna know more about the story behind that ranger that went to the forest and become one with the nature or the primivail tree there. I also thought Darko was supposed to be looking for the fourth darkrider (Elise) at the time in 2015, but then in 2017 he showed up in Pandoria when were saving Anne to stop us. There was never any mention of the last general until now so I wonder if they messed up the main storyline between 2016 - 2020? It seems like they needed to dive back in to the story again because the old story writers of the original games already left. And reboot the story to make it logical again. Because we were trying to save Anne from Pandoria I feel like they totally forgot about our main purpose of the story which is finding all copies of the light ceremony book because Darkcore stole the book itself, prepare the ceremony, reuniting the soulriders and guardians, preventing the darkriders from completing the group and evantually perform the ceremony to stop Garnok. As an older player who still remembers the old storyline I feel like the game has totally erased the old stuff.

My problem with SSO is that they have been digging their own grave. This is the result of making horses (and making money) a priority and not the in-game experience. Many of us who have been very critical wanted the updates to be more balanced (horses vs quests) and in my opinion, that have not been an unrealistic request. Instead, we have gotten a lot of nonsense excuses (i.e. lies) why they can not implement certain things. In general, most of us do not like to be lied to. This is what happens when a company do not listen to their customers and continues to live in their own reality. SSO has brought this on themselves.

And tbh I never noticed until I compared SSO's lippizaner to an image of one. I will say.. Especially when it comes to the success or failure of the game. These arguments will last for HOURS with multiple people involved, and usually end up with lots of feelings hurt. It's one of those things that I think can drive away players. The community has this toxicity that no one wants to be around, and can even be harmful to be around all the time. This is especially true for those who are very sensitive to the environment they put themselves in.
This rings true for myself. Not only have I lost interest in what little the game has to offer, but I don't want to surround myself with the toxic environment that the game puts off. I'm in a club, but I only log on for events because I have no other reason to be on the game. As mentioned, the game has become a notorious cycle of Buy horses, train them, repeat. The occasional quest is thrown in there, but alas, there's still not much to do.
The "White Knights" of SSO tell the people who criticize the game "Then play something else." Find me a better option that's just as good or better than SSO, then. I'll gladly leave. And that's the thing, there isn't a better option. SSO is a one of a kind. There are no other horse games like it. Or so far, none that can live up to the standard that SSO has put down. That's why some players continue to come back. We don't have a better option.
The ones that tried to live up to SSO's standards have all flopped. Terribly. This is another aspect that contributes to the anger. The players that are tired of SSO have no where else to go. They have no other horse game that can fill the shoes of SSO. Some just push through the boredom and continue to play, while others get tired of it and leave. There will always be new players coming in. SSO will always have what they need to thrive as long as those players keep flooding in. And unfortunately, that means our voices will eventually be drowned out.

I feel like a good way to satisfy both sides when it comes to the JS cap is to increase the cap by a small amount (say, to maybe a max of 15 or 20 k) while sso puts a cap on how much they are allowed to sell their items for (like they can't go over 10 k now, so keep the cap there). That way they avoid the problem of players over-saving and not spending, but the players still have at least SOMETHING to fall back on for another item or horse food. Because the way it's set up now is that I can only afford one decent item every few months, or a few that I don't exactly love. I'm not an avid player who will grind every race and daily task, and paying quests will only pay you until they're complete. I can't describe how discouraged I feel when an event blows by and there are a bunch of outfit items I want, but I can only afford one item in the set, two if I'm lucky. Even more discouraged when I see my savings over the weeks/months go from almost 10k to practically zero, and I'm forced to start over from scratch.

alright here comes some 3D knowledge and i'll try to keep it simple:
body of a charakter = model (which you showed at 6:00),
the shape of an object or clothing piece = mesh (you showed this "net" at 6:04, the grey ones are without a texture on it),
the image-file thats put onto the blank objects to give it its colorful look = texture.
For the meshcounting, lets take the already excisting pants for instance -
Pants in SSO have only 13 meshes -> riding-pants, tight bell-bottoms, wide bell-bottoms, 3/4-pants, long cargo pants, short cargo pants, chaps, miniskirt, longskirt, hotpants, shorts, 2 sorts of knickerbocker.
Kill me if i forgot one of the special-meshes :P
*and only those 13 meshes need to be adjusted onto one model.*
Lets take the miniskirts for the further doing:
      - In the 3D programm you put that skirt onto this new body - since our old charakter-models were very skinny, it would propably clip through the new hips, the butt and tights, which they need to fix by pulling the mesh's little anchorpoints in place.
A skirt is a very simple clothing-piece and has not many anchorpoints (depending on the design), but we are talking about SSO-meshs which are even more simple and i would say this is a work of a few minutes for a professional.
Since there are neither genders nor diffrent age-caps, there is chunk of work omitted too.
      - The next part is weightpaints - every charakter-model need its assigned weightpaints (the rainbowcolors on the body) and those are copy-pasted onto the clothing-meshes. This is required for instance, if our charakter lifts its right leg, the skirt must also move upwards on the right side. So, without these weightpaints the skirt would stay stiff and cause the leg to clip through the fabric when beeing moved.
The effort here is - based on the simpleness of SSO clothes - not so high either and here is a funfact - once weightpaint is transfered properly on a mesh, it can "scale" with the body-shape (thicker and thinner to a degree with little-to-no-adjustments). Which means they dont have to fully do one skirt for every single bodyshape anew.
      - Now a routine piece of work, since SSO has many, many textures for the same meshes. A texture is nothing but a deformed looking image-file. The outcome is not so diffrent from a link of a website leading to another page (you can change the look of that page and the link would always lead to the same page under a diffrent look).
The anchor-points of the mesh are literally placed ontop of that image ...or vice versa baked onto the mesh/wrapped around the mesh (many ways are possible, that depends on the creator) -
Lets say we put a blue texture, the anchorpoints are set, the mesh apllies the blue color over its area, now save that whole thing - done.
Red skirt next? Just replace the blue texture with the red's image, save. Next.
Yellow skirt? Pick n chose the dedicated file, replace the red, save. Next.
The textures all look the same by shape and only the inner content differs by colors or details, thats why the anchorpoints need no repositioning.
( I will skip the part of removing the model and the microadjustments in the settings.)
Furthermore SSO has no transparency or UV-maps for a material-effect on the fabric of the clothes, so there is another big chunk of work avoided too.
Now with all the files for every skirt in all the dedicated colors, they now can be inserted into the programming part / be woven into the game with the rules of how they are released, how they can be obtainedand, how they are stored, who can wear them etc.
I hope that was helpful in a way. :)

5:54 So true. It's like they go out of their way to say what they WANT to add to the game before they even start working on HOW it could even be added. That's why I like the roadmaps because they can 90% guarantee it's gonna happen. While all this other crap is just wishful thinking. For example, I'd love for there to be magical horses that can fly, but then they not only have to create realistic wings (which they better have fucking done by the Rainbow festival update) but also have to program our players to be able to move about in a vertical plane, which is hard when using the camera doesn't dictate which direction you move.

I just started playing SSO last week, and this game is so incredibly out of date for an MMO. The engine is clearly a generation or two behind, it lacks basic QOL things one would find in a game (quest tracker, quest progress not saving between sessions, UI scaling, map zoom, etc). I have seen incredibly offensive things being said in the chat, with one person outright saying "I won't say offensive things anymore" after being called out, so I believe there's no moderation as well. I'm not surprised the devs are tripping over themselves to promise new things but they all fall through immediately.

But when you come from other online games you easily see the problems. And seeing them going from saying their target is tweens and teens to now release more things for a way younger audience, we can understand that they try to move on a more easily impressionnable target, the one which will want to buy more stuff and will less easily think before wanting something.

One thing I always think about when people say SSO seems like a free to play game, is that it kind of is. If you look at other MMOs, there's usually a monthly subscription. SSO gives you a one-time fee that you can pay and that's it. They wouldn't make a lot of profit as an MMO that way. That doesn't excuse their ridiculous prices, but at least it explains why the structure of a premium currency exists at all.

what Siren said about how negative the game became just kind of hit me. it's not the same situation (different context and different conclusion) but earlier today i had a mental health crisis, and when i logged onto the game for escapism, some players called me the t slur and stuff like that. What got to me wasn't the name-calling itself, it's a game marketed to children, what can you expect, but the fact that the day prior, i tried asking for information about a club i was contemplating joining, and almost all of my messages were not let through the filter.
If anything, this ties in with the part about feeling unheard, if only a little bit. Like, sso has always been a comfort game for me, and with their pride events and queer characters i really felt welcomed, but then the literal t slur can be said in game no issue while every and all spellings of social media for example get filtered out. That's crazy! I wanted to make friends, and let's be honest, the sso chat will not be the place to have deep conversation, but exchanging info is literally impossible. Which i would agree is good in terms of security, protecting children and all that, but filter out slurs at least! that's protecting players too..! idk i'm going in circles, but yeah. not cool.

I’m one of those people who is in the middle. There are things I like about the game and there are things I do not. I don’t care if people disagree with me because they are allowed to have their own opinions. I think part of the divided community problem is that people are unable to except that others can have different opinions. Not everyone thinks or deals the same and that’s ok. I play SSO. I use it as a coping mechanism for my mental health. There are definitely aspects of the game for me that range from mild annoyance to boiling my blood, but over all I still like the game. I bought it for a reason. However, I do feel myself pulling away lately and losing interest do the the lack of good gameplay, almost all role plays being sexual, inappropriate chat conversations that people are having, broken promises from sso, and changes that were made that were not needed and definitely not well received (like the new sc js appearances). I tend to play other games now like red dead, modded minecraft, Roblox, and more. I still log on and play sso though, just not as much as I used to. It saddens me because I want the game to improve and see it truly become the best horse game, but there isn’t really anything I can do about it other than not spend money and speak up when it’s important. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Though the bug was patched where you couldn't run back and do it again, the people that grinded it out got tons and tons of exp, leveling some people beyond what is pretty much possible just doing the game. I have been playing for the better part of a decade (have done pretty much everything reputation wise etc.) and I recently hit level 23, yet there are people around that are level 25 and higher, all because of that one singular glitch. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I never saw players that high of level until that bug. as someone who's been trying to get SSO to see the community for YEARs now - i'm also to the point of lost hope. SSO doesn't realize how many players only play the game still because we've created activities for ourselves to do through communities within in a game that has little-to-none actual content to play once you get to the end game. the dressage community, the RRP community, the racing community are huge to maintaining the player base, and SSO refuses to acknowledge us or give us the updates we need to really thrive and continue to enjoy the game. its been clear to me for a while now that SSO CEO's truly do not care about us, and as long as they are making money off of us they likely won't ever care about what we really want to see in the game.
the dressage community for example: there are hundreds of clubs and teams that specifically revolve around dressage and host up to several hours of practices a day across all regions and servers. A DAY. how many casual SSO players do you know that log on for several hours a day 5 days a week? personally, none. dressage people have created entire methods and systems to work around SSO's screen delay and weird bugs, so we can continue to practice them within the game that continues to make it harder and harder for us. the whole updated arena fiasco is the perfect example: the artist that worked on the new arena was sent all the diagrams and information needed to give the dressage community ONE simple thing: our grid pattern on the floor so we can measure out and perform accurate circles/moves. they ended up releasing the arena unannounced a week early, and the arena floor was naked as a mole rat. we yelled and fought and fought SSO, made posts with thousands of likes and tags for SSO to please change it - and after weeks of that they finally added a blotched pattern onto the ground that didn't represent AT ALL our grid method or the diagram we know was sent to the artist via clara lightland (it's funny because the blotches were quite literally the opposite of what we asked... it's like they took the grid and just lazily put blobs of lighter sand in the empty squares we never use?). so back to yelling and crying on social media, and me sending clara a very concerned message about why the information i sent her that she confirmed was passed along to the artist seemingly all got ignored. again, after even longer weeks they finally added an overlay option that is a 1/1 replica of our grid we use! and i'm SO glad they listened in the end, but the issue here is: why would they change something they know is so significant to a large part of their community WITHOUT doing proper research and WITHOUT putting proper care and attention into it? they could have saved themselves a whole lot of outrage from us, because they proved to us in the end they are capable of giving us what we want. but we had to practically go to war for it... and that is not how it should be. im thankful that we did indeed get the grid in the end, as it saved our community entirely. however i will never forget what we all had to go through to get to that point.

Gonna place my gamedev butt down here for a second. While I worked for my previous company, our social media people would see what peopled said, made a lost of the most talk about points, threw it at the devs and they would discuss it. Sometimes the community came with good ideas or things that we could definitely add, while other times we just couldn't. Either the idea was too complicated for us to do, or it would change too much. However, if we said 'no' then we came with an explanation. We never said 'yes' however, instead we would see if the idea would work, and when we saw that 'yeah, this does in fact work', then we would make an update with what was coming or the changes being made.
A content creator saying they'll do something is one thing, but a COMPANY you are giving MONEY to, doesn't have that sort of freedom to just drop whatever. They really need to be more careful, and give their social media team more power within the company, and work with the community, not againt them. It's going to take time for them to regain trust with all of this bullshit, but it's not impossible.

From the moment I began playing SSO back when the servers first opened in NA, I recognized the JS cap as a manipulative means to get the player to spend money. I've spent a lot of time devising ways to slip around this cap legitimately, without using any kind of cheating or glitching at all. I wish I could teach others my methods, but I don't for fear that SSO will put a stop to perfectly legit means of "saving" JS just because they're greedy.

the start of the video reminded me of how Minecraft decided to announce new updates now, before the playerbase was very disappointed by the promises that couldn't be kept and were either decided to not be done at all or to be worked on more, this was because they during Minecraft Live pretty much had given all of their ideas for the next update.
This update now though, they had given only what they pretty much were a 100% certain was going to be part of it and instead decided to update the players over the course of time till the update on what will be apart of it.
Of course, some fans were disappointed at not being told a lot, but quite a few content creators pointed out why they must've done it and how it makes sense because we still got excited over what we were told and like that we wouldn't be disappointed as much.
That is not to say that they didn't have more plans, they just weren't a 100% sure if they would be able of implementing the other things yet because they weren't far enough in development.
I think that's a thing SSO could and possibly should do though, to lessen the expectations.
Like, for SSO I think a half year update on plans would be good, announcing the bigger plans that they are going to 100% release within the next 6 months. That could be just 3 things even, make it every two months, as long as those updates are big and good. Make it every 2 months that we get a big thing that will keep us busy and make us have actual fun and make the rest smaller updates.
I don't think they would need to announce the events we all know in there either. For events SSO uses a piece after piece update schedule, not everything gets updated at once.
In total SSO could still keep up the weekly update schedule (though bi weekly would be better still) if they planned it out better beforehand. Have your teams focus over two months in spaces on one big update while giving multiple small ones throughout it.
But most of all it would be needed for SSO to be open about, yeah we have big things planned like every 2 to 3 months and are gonna give small updates during the waiting time, but it'll be worth it!
They could even use their social media to give updates on how it's going with the development of the next big thing, make the playerbase part of the production, but don't give too many spoilers.
But what do I know, I haven't been playing SSO for probably over a year because my laptop decided to hate the new graphics lmao

If Abigail promises to make a video on Rival Stars but can't do it due to personal reasons that's absolutely valid and she shouldn't worry abt it, but SSO is a huge company with many employees and marketing teams. They make the conscious choice not to inform the player base about why said updates/promises can't be done, and instead choose to push out rushed, buggy horses.
They made the choice of quantity over quality for the game, and that's not going to be a sustainable business practice in the long run...

A while ago i completed a quest in golden and it automatically made me stay the night, taking however much it costs. I didn't take part in this choice at all, i finished a quest that i was supposed to have to do the next day, a black screen appeared, i was suddenly able to do the quest and i was missing some of my starcoins

I found myself seeing this video in my recommendations quite a few times but unwilling to watch it despite knowing you always had a reasonable opinion that was backed incredibly well. As I just found myself to be endlessly tired of the battle around star stable and how everything is negative when no one seemed to acknowledge the positives. And I will admit that reading the title did make me think this would simply be another negative rant.... which ironically is something you actually touch upon in the video itself.
Now, eventually I did watch the entire video and I have to say that this is one of the most well made videos on this topic i have seen in a long time, echoing almost perfectly the opinions I have held on to for a while now. It touches upon all the nuances of the debate and geos into depth on all the little subtopics.
I have been playing sso since 2013 and it has always been my comfort game, using it as an excape from the real world when things get tough. And it always makes me feel better. However it does also mean I have seen sso develop since then and as such also seen how the community itself developed. Sso definitely had its dark times around 2019-2021 where thy like you said... overpromised and did not listen however i truly believe that now they are genuinely trying. As someone who also works in game development I can see a lot of the hard work that goes into everything recently.
One thing that I dont see many people bringing up however is the tech debt, although you did touch on this within the video itself. The incredibly old engine sso is working with and that is in the process of being rewritten to allow for more and better features. It makes sense to me personally that updates during this time frame would end up smaller given the engine is limiting and everything they do before it is complete will likely have to be redone when the engine is done. So i understand why they might hold back a little with bigger features. Though personally id much prefer bi weekly or even monthly updates to give the devs more time, at least for this time period. Rewriting an engine is incredibly difficult and i even find it impressive how much they get done despite that. Though I can very much also understand the frustrations of the players as from the outside.... we dont know what they are doing exactly or where certain issues may lay. I feel like even if sso was honest if a feature was not working out, theyd still get shouted at for lying to players when it was never their intention. And rather just to make it known that they are looking into adding those things.
Which brings me to the sso community as a whole. I dont find myself enjoying the game for the community anymore. When a few years ago I alwas enjoyed hanging out with people in the game and there was the occasional troll. Nowadays its just.... sad. Angry. I find myself leaving the chat vlosed most of the time because everytime I open it, especially global chat, all i see is drama, fighting, trolling and just generally a lot of negativity. Sadly the amount of hackers has also severely increased because of this. Because the community is so toxic and "sso isnt fun anymore" many players begun to hack just for the sake of it and I find myself repoting players almost on the daily. I will say, sso support has been quite nice to me and they always seemed to look into the issues raised as in 9/10 cases the players were gone within 3 days. I dont know if this is because i always send video evidence as well but it does not change my frustration about the sheer amount of hacking done in recent times.
Anyway this has been an absolute delight of a video and I thank you for it. I could ramble on for much much longer as there are a l o t of thoughts i have on all of this both from a player and a dev perspective (I do not work on sso but do work in development for games) But i feel that would be far too long for a youtube comment.
I am looking forward to part 3!

@@YTRattle A little Addendum to my bigger comment as I completely forgot to mention it earlier however feel like mentioning it is quite important. Several things actually
First, the toxicity of the community. While there are many factors tthat play into this and it is hard to pin point exactly why it has become the way it is now. I believe one of the reasons to be the current social media landscape. Especially TikTok. And this is not to sound boomer like evern though I can easily understand it coming across as such. I find myself enjoying the app occasionally when I run it on bluestacks so its nothing against the app itself, i understand why so many people find enjoyment in it even if it is not my cup of tea. However it is the most dominant social meida platform as of right now and as such a huge amount of the discourse around sso is happening there, rather than in long format videos as you make them. With what I have seen tik tok in general tends to breed intense toxicity which is only amplified by everything being short formatted. Thus a lot of the current negativity in the community and the negativity towards sso no matter what they seem to do is bred there. And while I want to make it very clear it is not the only reason, by far not as sso themselves are very much to blame for a lot of how the community feels about them, the current aggression I believe to partly stem from there. And of course there are many other factors to this as well as like i mentioned before, the dark ages from around 2019 to 2021, with sso simply not listening and shoving players aside it is not entirely their fault. I suppose with TikTok I more so mean the rapid consumption and spread of information which is also present on other platforms, however it is the one that has the issue the most i personally believe anyway
Then there is also the issue of them removing several small features that I dont understand why they removed them. For example reputation quests that actually mattered. This can be things like grinding with the Kallters to be able to get a Fjord horse, Or the sun circle training, the pink rifts. Quests that when you completed them felt like a true achievement. It made you excited to continue and work your way up to continuing withing the game. It felt... immersive. It makes sense for the druids to feel the want to train the player, to gain their trust. Especially if you take the plotline of catherine into account (our predecessor). They would not want to repeat the same mistake again. And while I can understand that they would want to tone it down a little as I will be the first to admit it was quite grindy, by taking it out entirely it took with it the reward. The immersion of completing and working towards something. Nowadays any quests that require you to get reputation don't really.... matter. Theres the questline with making the clothes which.... gives you an owl pet if you complete it but it just doesn't feel like what I am doing matters. Theres the quest with Bonnie and her recycling. Same story there. Jamie Olivertree and the Soul riding with Rhiannon. While the quests with Rhiannon at least give a really nice reward and a good bit of lore it still does't really feel like it... mattered. Theres no true drive to complete them. And the only reason I completed every single one of those quests is because there was quite simply nothing else i could really do besides racing and the community being toxic at this point already.
A similar story goes for the new horse caring. The update just broke immersion into the game Nowadays your horse just does not grow thirsty or hungry no matter how long you ride it day in and day out. Which is what they used to do. You'd have to run back to a stable and care for your horse. But then they changed it. And after that change they added in the ability to care for your horse anywhere. Why? if i dont need to care for my horse anymore why would i need the ability to do it anywhere on the map. If only the second change of not being location bound to care for your horse had been implemented, I quite honestly would have really liked that change.
It's small things like these that just make the game feel a little more... lifeless I suppose.
Also please bring back bloom in the graphics options, I loved that so much. It made the game feel almost dreamlike.
I still love this game with all my heart. It has a special place in there but that does not mean it does not have its issues. Many people care a lot about this game. Players would not shout the way they do if they did not care about the game deeply. Many of us have spent many many years within the game, myself included. Hell when I was younger in like 2015 I had trusted my friend to also take care of my account and a few days later she had sold everything. Yet that still did not stop me from playing the game. That's how much I loved it. That despite such a huge reset, i still played the game and had fun. Which makes it hurt all the more to see how things are going. Though I will say the way sso has recently handled things makes me very hopeful.
I am so sorry for these long comments its just something I have many thoughts on :') I also have to apologize for any typos of the likes, english is not my first language so I have a tendency to overlook a couple things. But i swear I won't drop another novel on you
With all of that said, have a wonderful day / night, whatever it may be for you!

I really understand both the negative and positive sides about sso.
But there are so many issues going on, and I feel like it all leads up to one problem; The ceo and the developers.
I feel like if they were actually as passionate about the game like the community is, then all of these issues would eventually be taken care of and probably sooner than we'd expect.
I feel like there are many things that we can say to try to save the game, but it all comes down to whether they're willing to listen and not only looking for their own benefit...
I kinda hope that there will be a starcoin strike because, unfortunately, it feels like they are only willing to really listen when things are starting to go down... but that's only my opinion.

All this magnified by the removal of multiple timesinks (entire questlines and events, shortening down reputation and progressive content) without adding anything else to replace it, or at least not rub salt in the wound of both the people that did it the first time around, and the people that missed out but wanted to. This doesn't change much past that for older players, but changes a lot globally both for auidence retention, and something to fall back on when new content releases to mixed reactions. There would be more "middleground" players if there was content enough for players ot keep somewhat busy. The community needs to change and learn but that can be difficult if the most engaging thing left to do is sit in global and complain or religiously watch either side of the sso influencer space. Fights breaking out in the streets over the wrong soccer team winning after the match is over comes to mind. Soccer team supporters tend to be passionate and riled up after matches, and after they leave the stadium or bar there's no outlet for that adrenaline or disappointment, except the people wearing the other teams' colors.
All gaming communities have players that will complain about every update, ever, be it rpgs, mmos, dungeon crawlers, soulslike, cozy games- you get my point, but sso have a history of taking criticism, small or large scale as personal attacks and bullying; sometimes even bullying back or deleting, banning, silencing everything they see. This combined with excuses being at the ready for everything, all the time makes it feel like kids and teenagers arguing with kids, not an internationally successful company. They should be prepared for both stronly positive and negative responses from their community, especially since many are children or teens who are still learning how to be people, and can't be expected to be mature all the time. Should many players be more mature than they sometimes are? yep, does that mean the social media team can respond in the same way? no.
The jc cap argument is decently easily solved by adding cosmetic or slight convenience timesinks (home stable/club upgrades, increased inventory space, a few horses that could be bought with jc coming out maybe twice a year or so ect) for the people that would hoard wildly, or not totally removing the cap but increasing it to 50 or even 1-200k. The argument could hold up if it was a f2p game, as they said, but it doesn't make sense when it isn't, especially since it's really expensive and the dev teams seem to go on work trip after work trip for reasons that are unclear. Yes it's common to have more lenient work hours in sweden and occational trips and bonuses, it's not common however to see swedish game studios that look and feel like fancy summercamps all year round, or making ingame currencies/content more expensive without adding substantial content to justify it.
They could absolutely break their economy even more with a removal of or increase of the jc cap, we couldn't, but they sure could. The issue lies with how they would price things after the change, if the prices remain the same of the same type of item (for example single clothing items being below 10k) nothing would happen. If they decided to raise those prices, then yes. They'd break the economy, especially if the sc prices rise with them. Once again they could target hoarders by adding cosmetic or convenience time/goldsinks, but any economy breakage would be completely their fault. This along with not refunding paid currency lost through bugs is a bad look Refunding currency lost through bugs is both industry standard and a legal requirement in most places. SSO patting their own backs for doing that feels icky. Blaming the players for losing that money only and refunding most of it later "as an exception" doesn't help things either. "Some players found a workaround" what in the-
does sso spontaneously forget their own game features?
I recently bought the entirety of GW2 for 100€, the entire thing. Every expansion. All content, one time purchase. Just the main story and extras is around 300 hours of gametime, but there's nothing stopping me from spending 10k+ hours on it in guilds, engame content, world events, limited time events, upcoming expansions and additional achievemnts, secrets and activites. Takes a long time to get to where the average player would say they have nothing/few things to do left. You can even buy paid currency with earned currency, and it's not even an unrealistic hurdle if I wanted to grind for all cosmetics I want. Not a perfect comparison in any reality but does put things into perspective.
SSO has a lot left to do to get in the community's graces. I don't know if it will go one way or the other, but it hasn't come suddenly or without warning.

I whole heartily agree with the last person that spoke the one in the read, Sorry forgot the name but they are 100% right,
and I won't like I was like that at one point, I was always like SSO could never do wrong you are all just moaning about nothing, and now I'm just like ok, and move on, I may hate players and not agree with what they have said, but I just don't have the energy to say anything to them anymore, and i just play the game how I want to buy the horse I want buy SC when I want, and when I feel like it,
It's like I said I got SC one time and this person commented back with "Why did you do that we are doing a No SC month, Your messing it up for everyone" I'm like how is me buying SC messing things up for you, I just wanted some new tack and just thought hey I'll just buy some SC.
I'm in the middle now with SSO I really could not care if the game got shut down tomorrow, yes I have spent over £4000 on this game buying horse clothes, tack but what done is done,
there will be another horse game and I can think of two new games that are coming, one you can already play the Demo, Tales of Rein Ravine they may not have much in the game now, But I can play the Demo for hours, I love how they have worked the controls of the horse, and then we have Astride who fingers crossed will be setting early access mid may this year, I think when them two games come out fully SSO will just be a "Oh I forgot I hate that game",

Another great video Rattle, thank you! This was really interesting for me as a fairly new player. I haven't been in the SSO community long enough to have expereinced many of these disappointments, but I can see how those constant broken promises have ended up eating away the players' trust in the game. I personally am very much enjoying my time with the game, but I've experienced the disappointment too. I wasn't too happy with the Morgans (the head shape is weird), I am worried about what the Lipzzaners will end up looking like in game - both aare breeds that I like a lot and was excited about. The recent update to the riding mechanics is a double-edged sword, I love the jumping but hate the "drifting" (as someone who does SSO dressage).
All in all I think that SSO could do a lot better, especially in listening to player feedback, but they could also do a lot worse. A lot of the outcry over this update or that new horse model is pretty overblown. In the end, all of us can decide on our own if we are willing to invest our time and money in this game. If people are fed up - take a break! This will a) be better for your mental health than being enraged and disappointed all the time, and b) will act as a strike - they don't get playtime and more importantly, money, off of you when you're on a break. The SSO community is a very passionate one, so much I've learned in the short time since I've become a part of it, but that passion needs to kept in check. We absolutely should stay critical about where the game is going and voice our opinions, but we also need to remind ourselves that there are reasons we love this game, that there are positive changes too, and that there's other things in life too.

About the Halloween and portals... That was the one time when broken and bugged game for FOR them instead of AGAINST them... Because the quest for collecting crystals was broken and you could basically collect and collect again and again, as long as you were able to find invisible person offering the quest. So I opened the portals pretty quickly. But if I would have to open them the way it was intended to? No way I would do that. Because as much as playing for hours and hours every day may seem fun and realistically possible to them, I have a job, I have university to attend and the way portals should work, that was not possible in time-frame realistic for vast majority of players...

It’s kinda dum they don’t consider that raising the shilling cap could increase player play time. Also if people earn enough shillings to by most of a set they would be more likely to buy the last few items using star coins, because people want to complete their collection. Plus people will by star coins anyway since horses can only be bought with star coins.

It is my opinion that the veil of secrecy that video game companies raise around their WIP projects causes more harm than good when the companies in question don't communicate with their players. It's one thing to keep spoilers out of the public eye while dropping a teaser or few while also working to prepare the project, but radio silence will sow doubt and mistrust.
I look at companies like BioWare that have released virtually zero information about their upcoming games (to the point that we've had to rely on leaks for any news), VS game teams like WolfQuest, who pretty regularly update the players with tidbits of news and background information, and their relationships with their playerbases. The differences are like night and day.
If these game companies don't value their players enough to establish a relationship of trust, then eventually the feeling will be mutual.

As someone who works in game development, I would like to add a few things to the conversation. I understand, it's easy to come to the conclusions that have been made in the last two videos, Oooh the devs are lazy, they're money grabbing, they're unprofessional... and maybe that IS the case. But there can be other reason that a game development team might be failing:
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    1. Leadership - the Folks upstairs in charge that choose the direction of the studio. The Devs may have wiggle room but they are under contract to work for them.
    2. Headcount - Restrictions on team size can minimize the execution of what a team can achieve, particularly when they MUST finish something before a certain date regardless of if it's ready or not.
    3. Tech debt - Game engines get old, tech has restrictions. Who knows, maybe this could be one of the reasons why SSO isn't able to tackle cheaters so effectively? I honestly don't know.
    4. Talent - If you cannot hire the right people with the right skills, things are going to be considerably more difficult. Devs can also leave a job at any time, for any reason and when they go knowledge goes with them.

As always, a really enjoyable video :) As messy as SSO community is, I love being in this little "analytical" circle of players who actually enjoy the game but are also able to respectfully speak up about the serious problems this game (and company) has. Like Sandy and Siren pointed out, there's not really a middle ground playerbase here - you're expected to either hate or love the game and the direction it's going in. As someone who's been playing this game for eight years now, I can tell that it's definitely not game I've played when I was a child. Even though it has changed so much (the graphics, the lore, the soundtrack etc.) I still love it, and I think that this is the really important thing many people don't understand - as we, people/players change and grow, so does the game. With all of these money problems and inflation - the Star Rider / Star Coins' prices going up as an example - the game has to keep up and blend in in the game market. I have a very strong emotional connection with Star Stable, but as I stepped back and started noticing problems, my perception of the game has changed entirely. But I still played the game and enjoyed it. I think that with all of this negativity in the SSO community, we started forgetting the joy the game has once brought us, as it got overshadowed by the many issues in their product. What worked for me, is just stepping back. Playing the game and enjoying it, while also acknowledging the problems it's facing. People either blindly believe everything the SSO team is saying, or not believe them at all. I guess what this game (& community) really needs is balance, cause we all tend to see everything in either white and black, and nothing in between.

35:35 When I tell you my jaw dropped ☠️ They're acting as if this is an issue concerning ACTUAL currency and one that could make them lose ACTUAL money if they "investigate" and choose to give refunds when most of the players probably just used the star coin allowance. "Investigating" whether you're "eligible" for getting 75 star coins back... It's honestly shocking how desperate for money they are and not even trying to hide it.

I personally have tried to stay in some sort of grey zone when it comes to what I think about sso. I want to see the game doing good, but also give criticism on what I personally think they should change or think about. I'm not gonna lie, Unfortunately, it has been really hard to give them positive feedback, especially after the bug with the sleep to continue quest ability. Also, the "final product" the Lippizaner horse which brings back some ptsd memories to the Friesian fiasco.
I have been on both sides in this community and neither of them is good. One side that wants to see all positive, which in a way is a dream world and I wish it was all good, but can turn to an extreme toxic positivity. And the other side who brings out very good points on how the game used to more fun before and have valid criticism, but here you can fall in to the doom scrolling and nothing is good and everything they do is bad and not enjoy the slightest thing they put out.
What has been very frustrating for me as a player is sso's recent responses and actions. They literally deleted comments on their Instagram that had no type of hate or cursing in it. It was constructive criticism. With that it feeds the "sso only wants to hear positive feedback". Their first response to their players when a bug appears in the game that the players didn't know about was to blame the players.
It gets frustrating when a game you care about and wants the best for is being handled in this way and their responses to their community is like this. I personally think sso should at this point do something like what the developers behind No man's sky did (if you don't know that story I recommend watching Internet historian on that one).
Looking forward to see part 3. Your videos are always interesting to listen to 🙂

as a tf2 and sso player they really do have similar problems, i really hate seeing both my favourite games turn into lazy cash grabs full of broken promises

I think it's extremely important to give credit where credit is due. For every good thing SSO actually DOES do, we should give positive feedback. I think it's discouraging to devs to work hard on trying to (finally) give what players are asking for, only to be complained to. Because of that, I think if players don't show any gratitude, SSO devs will have less reason (and inspiration) to give what we ask for.
I'm not saying SSO has been doing a great job, or that I support everything they do, btw. They're a mess of a company. Bad analogy, but it's like training a dog. If you don't tell them what they're doing RIGHT, they are unlikely to understand and repeat the behavior.

Don't forget that Star Stable also ignores the terrible situation between Ukrainian players who are FORCED to play on a Russian server and are expected to be subjected to TERRIBLE bullying. Why for the sake of god Ukrainians have to be on the same server with russians ??? Even after year of full scale war ??? This is terrible from every point of view and to me it shows how much Star Stable as a company just ignores their players when they MOST need the company to take action. They just let horrible things happen and don't even try to do anything. As far as I know, even after a year of people screaming about it, Star Stable simply ignored the situation all the time, allowing the Russian players to do whatever they want to the Ukrainians without being punished (how surprisingly). For many people, it's strange to even imagine what it's like to go through a war every day, or to being called an ethnic slur, but for Ukrainian players, it's everyday life, even when they try to play a game that should be a safe place :/

But not all Russian players bully Ukrainian ones. Maybe people should stop forcing adults problems on kids. Star stable should ban bad players and that’s it. Don’t create a war between players, especially when Russian kids can be nice to Ukrainian people. And imo Ukrainian players don’t even have time for playing, they have war going on.

the 1-2 things they add to game when we asked was 🦄 and 🦓 but only in their way: first a bridle with horns, a pony with stripes x2, a magic one with stripes and finally 🦄
and it took a few years 😂
+the new move ment is bad for films like you cant open options + w to just like "💀" or lay down or fall or 1 quick step and horse cant just stop they doing 2 steps - so its like: that saide is good but other is not, so what now with that?
oh and on halloween many of my friends and other players on our serwers to get tornado log off and log on again and get that tornado again, yes we got all portals open in 2days

Well I absolutely agree with everything.
About the point of the community. Well it's not just SSO community that is like this. In the last few years there aren't many communities that stayed "clean" from behaving that way. I feels like people lack boundaries and the common sense for common respect. I guess it's how social media kinda started developing communities into. I also feel that people always feel entitled to seeing something perfect and if it's not? It's just gonna get destroyed... Sadly it kinda became normal for the majority of communities

I'm so grateful for you and other content creators who actually bring out the problems and still passionately bring their voice out for the rest of us, because I have basically given up myself. I am so damn passionate about this game, I've been playing since 2014, I miss fortuna, Easter, potato race, the way SSO handled the server battery explosion, the mysterious lore and so much more... It just makes me extremely frustrated that there is basically nothing I can do to stop this, I have no voice, I'm not a big SSO influencer, nor do I work at the company. I really wish I had some authority to force them to change everything they're doing now, but I don't. With the open house event currently I again got reminded how UGLY the new dark riders are, and how much they go against the entire lore both starshine legacy and their OWN BOOKS described them to be... I remember times when Stacy was still just a random SSO TH-camr, I remember grinding the Kalter reputation to get the Fjords, I remember using SSO database to know where each item I want was in which shop. And the druid circle reputations. Now they with the Kalters and Fort Pinta beach association (or how was it called) are removed like it never existed.. I am so furious, so I am genuinely so happy you are still strong enough to voice it all out for those of us who have or feel like giving up. I am so tired at this toxic positivity this community has had for years, and nearly ALL of them being children/teens who become severely aggressive if you say something just remotely critical. And worst yet, SSO encourages them!! They only respond to their bootlicker fans...
Again, thank you, Rattle, for being our voice of reason, I pray you succeed in this 🙏
    Edit: grammar mistakes
