I had the exact same issue with my ‘15 Trailhawk. Took it to the dealer 3 times and they had no clue and continually told me my battery tested fine. Decided to try something different. I went to Batteries & Bulbs and purchased a premium AGM premium battery. It was certainly pricey but came with a great warranty. Best of all it solved the Stop/Start problem.

You guys really need to add an option to have ESS disabled by default, it's so annoying- bad driver experience, excessive wear and tear on the engine and ignition, turns the AC off when not on auto mode, most Jeep owners don't care about fuel savings this is not a Prius, if you look everywhere on the Internet you'll find nothing but negatives about ESS, it really doesn't save that much fuel either, not enough to outweigh the extra wear and tear. I'd like to have control over when my engine is on/off. Also when you stop to park or reverse it is DANGEROUS to have the engine off. It's really a liability, can't believe Jeep/Chrysler allowed this. I don't want to press a button to disable every time I start my car. It's ridiculous. Totally ruins the whole vehicle. Just give us the option, it can't be too hard of a thing to do.

In theory its a great system, hoever I totally agree - the long term issues of wear - it also causes massive tailbacks as its usually morons not paying attention at the traffic lights!

Thomas Rock thanks for the tip, but honestly I just don't care enough anymore. I'm eagerly waiting for my 3 year lease to expire, this car sucks driving around the city. The transmission is clunkier than a Model T.

I own a 2015 Jeep Trailhawk (has a single battery) that came with an ESS system that has never properly functioned. Continually gave a dash error message that "System Not Functional, Battery Charging." After many, many trips to the dealer who could not fix the ESS issues and continually told me the stock battery was in perfect working order, I read on a Jeep Forum that another Jeep owner solved the ESS problem by switching to the X2Power Premium AGM BCI Group 27F Car and Truck Battery . I tried it and IT SOLVED THE PROBLEM!! ESS system works perfectly.
Warning: When the X2 27F was first install it made no difference in the functionality of the ESS system but after driving it for 50-100 miles and giving the computer system a chance to adapt to the X2 I've never had another problem with the ESS system.
Highly recommend is battery to any Jeep owner with the ESS system though it is pricey.

I have a 17 GC Trailhawk and have recently noticed that stop/start is not working properly. It doesn’t say there is a direct issue but it says “Not ready Battery charging”. So now I’m wondering if my battery is the issue or if there is something else going on. Other than that my car functions normally with no other issues or anything. I would contact the dealer but I recently had to take my car to the dealer to repair a cracked emissions hose and had to leave my car with them for a week. I don’t really want to have to leave my car with them again. I kinda want to try replacing the battery with the one you mentioned to see if that works but from what I’ve read by car also has a secondary battery just for the stop/start purpose.

This feature is going to cause accidents, lots of them. You come to a stop sign, see an opening to enter the flow of traffic, and there is a delay. You are waiting to make a left turn, you see a gap in traffic, and hit the gas, and there is a delay. I hope the juries are smart enough to award huge damages to the injured, and if the feature can't be disabled permanently, I want a new car.

    • @msrednic
      @msrednic 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

You are overreacting. The few milliseconds it takes to turn the engine back on are not going to cause an accident. You are making it sound like it takes a few seconds. It's not like that at all. It's not like a turbo engine where it takes a couple seconds to get response. Let's just say I'd rather have the Grand Cherokee V6 with start-stop than ANY car with a turbo! Now that is an accident waiting to happen.

@@msrednic Obviously you do not own one of these. I have had a couple close calls myself with my 2016 Jeep Cherokee. Vehicle turns off, you give it the gas when a traffic opportunity presents itself, the system then takes a bit to wake up --then it sometimes hunts for gear and then moves forward. One time it took a good second, and I decided, oh I'm not going to make it now and went to hit the breaks before it moved --and just as I was hitting the breaks it lurched out into the intersection. I almost got hit! I try to turn if off before I leave the driveway, but often I forget.

Having just bought a 2017 Grand Cherokee I'm concerned about the implications of this system.
I got through any number of brake disks in my last Jeep - I was told it was down to my habit of holding the break at a junction - rather than putting the car in park.
The technician told me the brake disks got extremely hot and applying constant pressure when stopped - rather than releasing - was warping the disks.
I'm not a technicians so don't know if this is true - but having stopped holding the car on the foot brake at junctions - the lives of my disks has been extended.
I'm confident that the extra fuel I may be using not stop/starting is more than compensated by the need to regularly fit new disks.

Dont want ess, remote trunk, lane assist, adaptive cc, air suspension, auto wipers, back up cams, etc all that super extra stuff is just rolling the dice. Less stuff that can go wrong, less money in maintenance and repairs. Some of these options are way over the top imo

I have a brand new JEEP Latitude that was already serviced with new parts! Ouch. But the reason for my comment is that the Start/Stop system frequently turns off. It does not matter if A/C is on or not. The frequency of the problem is high (i would like to save gas if it works) I brought it back for servicing. The service dept. manager said he could not replicate the problem and that there was no error message. The details of my dealing with the manager are many but suffice it to say this system does not seem to be functioning -- too much Not Ready messages and the vehicle starts up.It usually says cabin is being cooled or heated too many times deactivating the start/stop feature.

This late summer I purchased a Grand Cherokee and was told that the system could be turned off, but the salesman failed to mention that it supposedly could not be turned off permanently. That is until I watched multiple videos on how to turn it off permanently. That system was the stupidest system every designed because they are trying to make your automobile fool-proof for dummkopfs who shouldn't be driving anyway.
To add all that electronics that were mentioned adds a lot of cost to the vehicle. If you want to turn it off permanently watch this video; th-cam.com/video/tBJ_J-o-drc/w-d-xo.html . There a multiple videos on how this is done if you have an earlier model or a different setup.
