Love Kate Bush she’s such talented artist, I always loved “The Man With The Child in His Eyes” and “Army Dreamers” “ Babooshka” is a must listen, great reaction
Kate is so insanely talented and such a unique artist. This is my favorite song of all time, it's just hauntingly beautiful. You have to watch the video, both versions, but the white dress version is my favorite. She's so captivating. You will definitely fall in love with her. In the beginning she sang very high-pitched and was very theatrical, but then she got more experimental and created the most mind-blowing music you will ever hear. She's an extremely versatile artist, I love all her eras. I'm so excited for you!
1977 -78 in the UK saw the rise of punk rock with bands like the Sex Pistols climbing the charts. Punk was the 'big thing' at the time...then this landed from nowhere. She wrote this in 1977 and it topped the UK singles charts the following year, a huge international hit & introduced the force of talent that is Kate Bush.
Please do more Kate Bush, she has dozens of songs that will blow your socks off. At some point do "Suspended in Gaffa" it is weird but brilliant so maybe save it until you've listened to some more of her less weird stuff.
Kate was singing as the ghost of Cathy Earnshaw, the character in Wuthering Heights by Bronte, hence the desire to sound a little ethereal. Kate's songs all sound very different, so don't assume that they all sound like this. The Kate Bush journey is a fascinating and at times bewildering one, but very worthwhile. There are plenty of gems to be discovered.
Kates high pitched voice was to reflect the fact she was singing as Cathys spectre lost on the wild moors of Northern England. Very atmospheric . Kates a genius but not always easy to access and certainly isn't going to be everyone's taste ,like the wuthering heights novel itself. You either 'get it ' or not.
I absolutely *adore* Kate Bush, and I loved this reaction. It's interesting that you remark on what a bold and unexpected choice this was as a first single, as she had to battle the record company over this decision! They wanted to release James And The Cold Gun as the first single, as it's a (somewhat) more conventional rock song. Her strength of will at such a young age was extraordinary - and obviously she was completely vindicated! The second single is the absolutely *gorgeous* ballad The Man With The Child In His Eyes, which would make a great second reaction.
Oh this could be the start of a long deep dive with this wonderful woman. You can’t go wrong with any of her singles, but there’s so much more to dive into
Kate Bush-Wuthering Heights was released in Jan-1978 and it hit the roof all of 1978.The song also represent the end of the disco era in the late 1970's.
Several years later, when she released her Best Of album "The Whole Story", Kate re-recorded her vocal for this. One prepares themselves for this kind of thing--how can you top the original? But she did it, and the 2nd vocal version is just as strong if not stronger.
You DID it. You've discovered Kate Bush! I first heard her in 1993 while working with a friend who played a few of her albums and I was hooked for a long time. The song you played was written by her before her 20th birthday. She has a wide range of topics she covers, like a woman who tests her husband's loyalty in "Babooshka" to young men gone to war in "Army Dreamers". You must have heard "Running Up That Hill". Listen to her vocal range in "In The Warm Room" or "Them Heavy People", a song about the brilliant writers she read growing up. While I have you heard, please give another female artist, songwriter, pianist named Amanda Palmer of the Dresden Dolls. "Girl Anachronism " and "Coin Operated Boy " are good starts. There is nothing to compare them to.
Kate's a genius. Many people don't get her, but those that do know they've found a treasure. The two versions are the video cation - the music is the same.
I will add that Kate wrote "The Man With the Child in His Eyes" when she was only 13 years old. The song received the Ivor Novello award for "Outstanding British Lyric" in 1979.
I read a quote from the engineer of the record who regretted not raising the volume of the guitar solo during the outro. You'll notice it is rather low in the mix when it ought to really be taking a lead (in a similar way to the guitar solo of Goodbye To Love by The Carpenters does). He kept it lower in the mix because he wasn't convinced about the song's merits and didn't think it deserved the extra effort. An attitude that he admitted and now regrets.
She's amazing and so eccentric. When you watch the video you either think she's absolutely crazy or you love what she does/is. For me it was the latter.
You need to watch her video performance of this song (white dress version), and you should really explore a lot more of the incredible music she has produced in her career. Kate is one of the most innovative and influential female musicians of all time. By the time she was discovered by Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour at age 15, she had written over 250 songs. A brilliant composer, lyricist, singer (with a 4-octave voice), pianist, dancer, mime, choreographer, record producer, video producer & director - she even helped develop the first cordless headset microphone that she used on tour in 1978. Kate is one of the most respected artists and producers in the music industry. She was one of the first female musicians to take total production and artistic control over her work, and has been a real pioneer for women in music for the last 40 years. First woman to have a #1 self-written song in the UK charts. First woman to have an album debut at #1. First woman to have a Top 10 album in each of the last four decades. She has had 25 Top 40 singles, 10 albums on the Top 10 Albums Charts, nominated 13 times for British Phonographic Industry awards and 3 Grammy awards, an Ivor Novella Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music, and appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2013 for her honored services to music. In September of 2020 Kate was honored as a fellow of the prestigious Ivors Academy for songwriters and composers. In 2014 she returned to the stage and sold out over 100,000 tickets in less than 15 minutes (a record for the Hammersmith Apollo). Her 22 performances were highly acclaimed (named as "the #1 live music event of the year" by many music publications) and in 2014 she became the first woman to have 8 albums in the top 40 charts at the same time (third behind only Elvis and The Beatles). Her 3 disc, 4 lp, live album of those performances, "Before The Dawn" was released in 2016 and also ranked in the charts.
She had a great single with wow. Also hounds of love, cloudbusting. There are too many to list here. Been trying to get you to listen to angel. The song is the fortune.
Omg this is sooo good! Also love “Wounds of Love” my go to song when I want to expel my frustrations 😂 and it shows her amazing range. Can you react to Tori Amos? Maybe “Cornflake Girl”
When I was young (7), I fancied Kate Bush SO SO much....ah, memories of not understanding what the f was going on...just this compelling reason I MUST see Kate hahahaha
Nice reaction mate, always stay open to different music styles 👍. Love US rock, the doors particularly and our Canadian brothers like Leonard Cohen but I do think the UK has a great record in music considering how much smaller we are.
For a taste of Kate's range, you might contrast her "Babooshka" with her "Pull Out the Pin". One is great fun, the other deadly serious. Peter Gabriel is the male Kate Bush, and the other way around. Yin/Yang. Kate's voice is rather Asian in its felinity. One is reminded of The Sundays.
John Lydon said in an interwiw that Kate Bush and her Grand Piano is Like John Wayne in his Sattel..it doesnt get any better then that. I found that brilliant
Late to the party again - story of my life - but here goes. Haunting, beautiful, bursting with talent, didn't put up with extended record label bullsh*t, perfect package. & her bottom lip certainly brightened this boy's life when he was a young pup. So far as to say I would have cheerfully crawled naked across two miles of burning desert sand strewn with broken glass & used syringes just to touch a plastic bag that might have once contained her knickers. I digress. Give 'Hammer Horror' a whirl.
If you want to discover more women song this year, I totally recommend the Nina Hagen band. The rockpalast live is insane (song examples: Naturträne, TV Glotzer, Der Spinner and unbeschreiblich weiblich)! Also, can't wait to see you react to more Kate Bush !
I remember when I first heard this and it was new, my reaction was "What IS that??" It is quite weird. A lot of her other stuff is less startling and weird but still brilliant.
Based upon your reaction here I think you will love "This Woman's Work", "The Man with the Child in his Eyes", "The Kick Inside", "Wow", and "Babushka". It will also give you a chance to experience her, nearly perfect pitched, three and a third octave range.
For some people, myself included, listening to the song first on its own is best because seeing the video can color the first impression of the music. Anyway, I don't recall Nick ever watching videos in his reactions.
The hook was soldered into the staple: a circumstance observed by me when awake, but forgotten. “I must stop it, nevertheless!” I muttered, knocking my knuckles through the glass, and stretching an arm out to seize the importunate branch; instead of which, my fingers closed on the fingers of a little, ice-cold hand! The intense horror of nightmare came over me: I tried to draw back my arm, but the hand clung to it, and a most melancholy voice sobbed, “Let me in-let me in!” “Who are you?” I asked, struggling, meanwhile, to disengage myself. “Catherine Linton,” it replied, shiveringly (why did I think of Linton? I had read Earnshaw twenty times for Linton)-“I’m come home: I’d lost my way on the moor!” As it spoke, I discerned, obscurely, a child’s face looking through the window. Terror made me cruel; and, finding it useless to attempt shaking the creature off, I pulled its wrist on to the broken pane, and rubbed it to and fro till the blood ran down and soaked the bedclothes: still it wailed, “Let me in!” and maintained its tenacious gripe, almost maddening me with fear. “How can I!” I said at length. “Let me go, if you want me to let you in!” The fingers relaxed, I snatched mine through the hole, hurriedly piled the books up in a pyramid against it, and stopped my ears to exclude the lamentable prayer. I seemed to keep them closed above a quarter of an hour; yet, the instant I listened again, there was the doleful cry moaning on! “Begone!” I shouted. “I’ll never let you in, not if you beg for twenty years.” “It is twenty years,” mourned the voice: “twenty years. I’ve been a waif for twenty years!” Thereat began a feeble scratching outside, and the pile of books moved as if thrust forward. I tried to jump up; but could not stir a limb; and so yelled aloud, in a frenzy of fright.
The ultimate goth track. To make this mature of a music adaptation(of the great novel) at such an age....astonishing. Watch the video with her dancing because it comes over very "performance art". Probably the most talented english artist ever at such an age.
For something different but classic, try to get into some Dead Can Dance. It's a female + male duet, but mostly the woman, Lisa Gerrard, sings. She has solo work as well ( Good starter is her solo ' Space Weaver ' ) You are still missing some Siouxsie (and the Banshees) reactions!!!!
like a lot of people she mistakes the love affair between Heathcliffe and Kathy as real love. It isn't. It's a failed love, it's a disgrace. Wuthering Heights the novel isn't about love it's about revenge and darkness. Heathcliffe isn't a dark moody romantic hero, he's a totally evil bastard, he does everything he can to ruin the lives of everyone around him. This is not a love story, it's a hate story.
No, that guitar solo is performed by Ian Bairnson, who also played on most "The Alan Parson Project" albums next to Kate's first three (IIRC) albums. He just died on Good Friday last month at the age of 69. R.I.P. Sorry for that late answer! ;-)
Kate recorded this song at least 2 more times, each one better than the last. This is the first and worst. Her voice is very screechy here, like an owl. The latest version is on her greatest hits album The Whole Story (1986). Her voice was more mature, controlled and mellow. The screech is gone.
I know this is a ling time ago, but if you read this comment please do some more Kate Bush. If you do nothing else please listen to the title track from this album.

I saw by looking at your face you would like it you don’t give a chance then see made you like when she started she was 15 when she started she want though change so many times you lots listen don’t worry about what people think what you like think
I love the smiths a lot but the older I get and the more I learn about morrassy the more Im seeing that hes not a very nice person i still love the music though
Based on the classic book Wuthering Heights and the characters Cathy and Heathcliffe, a tragic love story. She’s genius.. a goddess…. Please do more …
It’s Kate Bush. Absolute Genius. Goddess.
In 1979 we couldn't escape this song. 18 when she wrote this!
I was born 91 and my mum played this album habitually growing up. It reminds me of her so much.
Love Kate Bush she’s such talented artist, I always loved “The Man With The Child in His Eyes” and “Army Dreamers” “ Babooshka” is a must listen, great reaction

Kate's voice rocked my 10 years old. Now again.
one can never be indifferent to a song like that. this is so beautiful it hurts.

Try “Running Up That Hill” by Kate next, you won’t be disappointed
yes this song is a must !!!
No.1 in the uk charts currently. You’re a fortune teller haha
@@jamesk8075 who knew? 😁
Can't go wrong with any of the songs off her album "The Dreaming", it's her most "out there" album I guess you could say. Definitely my favourite.
A light from heaven.
Kate Bush-Wuthering Heights was released in Jan-1978 and it hit the roof all of 1978.The song also represent the end of the disco era in the late 1970's.
"Sat In Your Lap" and "Hounds of Love". Lyrics are a plus . KATE was well ahead of her time.
Wow is a great track by Kate Bush.

This was the first single I ever owned,I was 4 at the time, still my favourite song today!!
Discovered by David Gilmore of pink floyd in the 70s absolutely incredible voice nothing more to be said. Try "man with the child in his eyes "
I will add that Kate wrote "The Man With the Child in His Eyes" when she was only 13 years old. The song received the Ivor Novello award for "Outstanding British Lyric" in 1979.

Love this. she is very different.
Yes, this song ran upstairs, got a pair of socks out of my dresser, put them on my feet, then blew them off...
The Hounds of Love album is her Masterpiece
She had a great single with wow. Also hounds of love, cloudbusting. There are too many to list here. Been trying to get you to listen to angel. The song is the fortune.
She is amazing Nick . . . now there's a rabbit hole for you.
Omg this is sooo good! Also love “Wounds of Love” my go to song when I want to expel my frustrations 😂 and it shows her amazing range.

You might like to check out Don't Give Up, a duet with Peter Gabriel. Very haunting.
Kate Bush : Truly original - she was only eighteen when she wrote this .

Nice start to 2022! I would recommend you try The Cocteau Twins . 50% female artist :)
Please try also "The hounds of love " then try the" Future heads " version
A genius interpretation of a song by a genius
I'm pretty sure I heard the Futureheads version first and loved it. Then heard the original and fell even more in love. I love both!
For more recent Bush try The Sensual World, she's till got it.
You are missing a lot not seeing the video. She sings the part of Cathy, a ghost trying to persuade Heathcliffe to let her in the window.
For some people, myself included, listening to the song first on its own is best because seeing the video can color the first impression of the music. Anyway, I don't recall Nick ever watching videos in his reactions.
Kate Bush fan here so very very biased…..but I would love any house party that blasted out some Wuthering Heights lol
Nice reaction 👍🏻
All Is Full of Love by Bjork would be a good choice. She acknowledged Kate's influence as a kid in Reykjavik
Pat Benatar did a great cover of this on her Crimes of Passion LP.

BTW: Drummer Stuart Elliott is also known for his work for Alan Parsons as well as Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel.

Can you react to Gimme Danger by The Stooges?
I know this is a ling time ago, but if you read this comment please do some more Kate Bush. If you do nothing else please listen to the title track from this album.
The Faerie Goddess.
Hers- What once was pls
If you want to listen to more women, try Adele. Ha ha, just kidding. Seriously, you probably already know her, but you should try Amy Winehouse. You Know I'm No Good, or anything from Back to Black. Definitely still in blow your socks off territory with Amy.

Of course, in the 80s Morrissey had something to say about her... "The best thing I can say about Kate Bush is that her voice is unbearable"
If Kate Bush and Morrissey got into a fight, I'd ask her if she needed any help scraping him off the bottom of her shoe.
I love the smiths a lot but the older I get and the more I learn about morrassy the more Im seeing that hes not a very nice person i still love the music though
Your eyes are krypton-gay
Idk what this means, but I will say that I've done the tests, and I am straight
You picked the wrong one.
