In the strikingly realistic painting, Vesuvius looks about to explode again but the soldiers and civilians on the bridge are taking no mind of it. They forgot about Pompeii already? It's a beautiful piece to accompany this exquisite music. I remember watching a black and white television production of Il Matrimonio Segreto on Channel 11 back in the late 1960s when it presented arts programming for the different ethnic groups in New York City, as opposed to anime cartoons and reruns of Maury today. Oh for the good old days! Cimarosa had a very songful eloquence whether writing for voice or instruments and it's always a delight to hear his music. Thank you as always for your sophisticated postings.
