I played a bard. when there was a party at my camp i played a song and everyone gathered around throwing gold at my feet. when you play a song or instrument near another bard, they duet with u. i created a band of 3

I'm really glad you put emphasis on considering the roleplay- I've known I want to play a Drow focused on crossbows but was torn between Fighter, Rogue, and Ranger. Really thinking about it now, I think the 'survivalist' vibe of Ranger really fits my mental image of the character a lot better than the others, so I'm finally feeling set on it
Sneak attack isn't just from stealth, it's anytime you have an advantage over the opponent or if an ally is within 5FT. No reason you can't do it consistently against enemies either.

@@j.w.7608It is only a Rogue thing, just that it's less a stealthy strike, and more taking the opportunity to strike where your enemy's weak or off guard.
The ally within 5 ft part seemed pretty buggy/inconsistent
@@jiaan100 If there is anything to impose disadvantage on you, it'll not allow you to Sneak Attack

Cleric of the Light or Warlock, both sound so interesting. no clue on the race yet so many great options.
Keeping it classic here, so I am going with Tiefling, Fiendlock tome pact for my first playthrough, second character is going to be a Half Elf Fiendlock blade pact/Paladinfor the more Hexblade ish build 😊
Gonna try Monk/Berserker with a Half-Orc and roleplay as someone trying to suppress his inner rage using meditation and inner focus.
I have like 4 playthroughs ready in my head already but ill watch for some good ideas!!

bard is my baby.
finally really good in bg3, always found them lacking in the older games.
the way spells work now makes low rank spells much more useful, love it.
Leaning towards Circle of Spores Druid or Oathbreaker Paladin.
So my initial choice was going to be Warlock but I've played the Druid, Paladin, Fighter and Sorceror. Most recently I tried Bard and actually found that to be extremely fun.
So I now think I'll be a Drow Bard with a sprinkle of Warlock.
But that's only the first play through. Second will be Dark Urge as maybe a Half-Orc Druid or Monk.......too many classes, argghhhh 😁
gonna try out sorlock first, but also tempting to do a storm sorcerer / tempest cleric mix
You should do a video of what comps are good to play. Like a party of a fighter, Rouge, cleric, and a wizard as an example. Thinking of different combos you could do as a party and stuff.
A funny comp would be a all warlock team with the pushing invocation for eldritch Blast forgot the name.

I sort of regret chossing fighter mostly because every companion i pick up seems to be a tank class lol
Dont have to be stealthed to sneak, just need advantage(which stealth gives), or an ally within 1.5m and no disadvantage

Going Bard (college of swords) and possibly multiclass with Paladin. I nearly did it in a dnd game for in game character reasons but our game ended before we levelled (alt characters).
Planning a Gloomstalker/Assassin DU, but haven't decided on the levels or whether I dip into a 3rd class as well.

That was my first character in EA, but then I realized I found Astarion to be such an amusing character that I need to have him in my party and let him be the rogue.
Picking Monk, however nobody has answered if unarmed fists are classified as dual wielding or not? If it is, then I'm going Barb1, Fighter2, Monk9. If not I'm going Barb1, Monk11. The barb is for the additional AC, the fighter is dual wielding option.

@@norzza Paladin is the obvious choice. It offers absolutely everything. You get to be the face of the party, the "tank", the main damage dealer and with Hill Giant Potions will never have to shuffle around stuff in your inventory because you can just carry around everything with your MC. It just neutralizes so much unnecessary hassle.
I hope by the time I'm ready to play other characters there will be mods that will make handling inventory a whole lot less tiresome.

i like the warlock, sorcerer, ranger, thief; dragonborn, drow, halfdrow, tiefling, giff!!! id like to see a necrolock but have never been able to get it right when attempting to design it!!!!
there is a thing i'm considering doing as a rogue thief and that's having a lot of strength ontop of having a lot of dexterity, reason is because you do get an extra bonus action and also rogue necessitate the need for movement, and what strength does is let you shove better which is a bonus action so you could shove 2 enemies off a cliff for example and if you don't have strength it's more likely you will just fail to shove anything, so in some cases for example if you are standing on a high ground and some enemies tries to reach you you could just push them off the cliff you're standing on.
the other thing you do get from strength is jump distance which could be really beneficial to a rogue who wants to traverse the battlefield jumping across larger gaps or up a cliff otherwise you would need to maybe run around the entire battlefield to get to that high ground otherwise which might have a ton of enemies in the way or make it really hard to reach. also because you do get 2 bonus actions you can jump twice and with that you could possibly outrun an enemy by jumping up two cliffs or up a cliff and across a gap or across 2 gaps as the enemy most likely can only jump once.
however having high strength makes you sacrifice other stats so you might not want to do that but i think it depends on your playstyle and what other members you have in your party, because perception or deception or persuasion or invistigation or something else could really be beneficial aswell or if not downright necessary.
but just functionally as the only class/subclass that gets an extra bonus action just having more strength lets you just get more use out of it.

Unnecesary? I mean, if that's what you want then why not just put expertise in athletics? You could go overboard with doing expertise + pumping strength but I don't think the difference is gonna be worth.
As you said, a rogue that can deal with locks, stealth and some other out of combat things is what I feel makes them more valuable.
@@hazamax2139 yes but you can have dex as a stat and put expertise in those 2 things that are key to thiefs general thing they do and put other points into other stats.
and i don't know how much athletics actually do in terms of these 2 things such as jump and shove.
if it is as simple as just putting proficiency into athletics then that would be great, but i also think it would be an interesting choice, if you choose to be either an intelligent thief, a strong thief or a thief with wisdom or a thief that can talk their way out of anything in conjunction with just being that typically dextrous thief.
because really when was the last time you saw a thief that looked like they could crush your skull with their barehands? seems like an interesting touch.
@@bobxbaker Uuuhh... you know shove and jump are athletics based skills, right? It's not that strength determines if you can shove or how far you can jump, it's athletics, which is a strength based skill.
Let's give you an example. Let's say I make a fighter and I compare it to a pure dex rogue I made. Fighter has 17 str AND proficiency in athletics at level 1. That gives us a +5 on athletics checks. +3 from strength and +2 from proficiency.
Now my rogue has only 10 strength because he doesn't need strength but I want him to be able to shove people so he can... run away? Let's leave aside the fact he has disengage as bonus action, maybe we are dealing with a guy with the sentinel feat.
So at level 1 we pick proficiency in athletics AND expertise. Compared to our buff fighter we would have a +4. Is it as good as a +5? No, but c'mon it's literally 1 off. This way, we don't have to spread our stats so we aren't gonna be a glass cannon.
If you want to make a stong thug by all means, do go on ahead. My argument is just that rogue doesn't need strength if you only care about shoving and it's REALLY counterproductive to go for strength. Sneak attack works ONLY on finesse weapons after all.
@@hazamax2139 i was thinking like 14-16 strength and max dex with just taking athletics proficiency and spending my expertise on sleight of hand and stealth, and then pick maybe like 12 in some other stat and some proficiency that i thought could be useful.
but now that you say that, i really didn't think of athletics and strength as the same thing for shove and jump that it's the athletics proficiency modifier that determines the ability of it.
so really if i just put like expertise in athletics and 12 in strength i would have the shoving and jumping power of a strength 20 character (without athletics proficiency). hmm.. then that could be worth that and just pump up another stat that has tons of proficiencies that could be good or useful, so that would mean i could have like 7 proficiencies i could have like between +3 and +7 into while also having +5 athletics. instead of sacking so much proficiency points for a stat increase that will only benefit one proficiency that has nothing to do with my attack roll.

if final fantasy has taught me one thing is that unarmed monks usually boast high HP and very high attack power. now FF is not DnD of course. i am excited.
can you pick the subclasses of a class when you multiclass? or is that only reserved for you first main class? like can i do a warlock arch demon and a sorcerer mark of the dragon? multiclass?

I am usually a spell caster, but im thinking of going a milli fighter.
My problem is I wanted to role play a bard but the combat play style for them leaves a lot to be desired for me. I think I'm going to settle for an Assassin Rogue / Gloom Stalker Ranger in the end to stack up sneaky damage. Pretty OP when you can use a bonus action to stealth again to regain advantage or just sneak attack targets engaged by your tank. If you pick an elf you get free longbow proficiency and can get great weapon master feat later for flanking in melee for those sweet melee crits... I have such a soft spot for Bards though - especially since I want to role play a good natured, fun loving joker / prankster - I feel like the old Bards were better for that. Shame Wisdom is better than Intelligence in the build but there will always be limitations, as I kinda like being naive. It's fun that Larian decided to remove multiclassing limitations though - it makes for fun what if's - I always felt like a Rogue/Monk would be a fun and decent combo too! There is legit, such a selection dilemma that I spent literally 6 hours to decide what I wanted to play 😅 (it doesn't help that I only ever playtested 5e once as a pre set character so I never got accustomed to the system).
Its also fantastic that you can respec as I'm not super familiar with 5e and I'm somewhat expecting that I've overlooked something that might undermine my entire build, it's also possible that I'll have a change of heart, so its really reassuring that I won't have to start from scratch. 😊

What i Need to do for multiclassing?
I main the tank role in any game that allows it, do you think Fighter or Paladin will make a better tank?
Can you better define what you understand as a tank?
For me it's a bulky character that controls the area around him. If that's your inclination I'd say battle master fighter is the way to go. You can make sure your team is safe, impose disadvantage by frightening enemies or letting your allies have a good angle by tripping the enemies, etc.
You can also add the sentinel feat to that. Disengaging against you no longer saves them from an opportunity attack, making it harder to get away from you. It also makes it so if you hit them with an opportunity attack they can no longer move that turn.
for high armor class and healing potential id recommend cleric life domain if u dont wanna multiclass

Same here, im leaning towards Sorcerer Warlock. Though i am interested in how the spell slots would work in that multiclass, does it depend on which class i start with? Would it be better to start as a Sorc for the increased slots, or as a Warlock for the short rest refresh of slots?

do class LEVELS affect dialogue checks ? i mean we all know that certain classes have certain unique dialogues here and there but does class LEVEL matter in diologues and checks ? im thinking about Jack-of-all-Trades (achievement) character :)

Actually you probably want Barbarian they are a more hulk smash class.

Are there classes that lend itself well to doing an "evil" playthrough?
I believe there is a “Dark urge” origin in the custom character selection. That falls along those lines.
Flavor wise there are those suited to it. Oathbreaker Paladins, Clerics that serve evil gods, Necromancer Wizards(undead are considered innately evil in D&D), Warlocks that have Fiends as as their Patrons, etc. There are also classes that could be evil as designed, Rogues that lean into the criminal element, Shadow Monks can be similar to Rogues in that regard. For most other classes you'd be individually evil, lacking a specific class flavor for it.
the ultimate build if you want to min max on interactions might be dark urge + any rare race (drow, duergar, dragonborn, tiefling or half-orc) + oathbreaker paladin

Paladin oath of the ancients and warlocks with the right invocation can as well.
Also Forest Gnomes. You can pick any class with that.

Monk has misinformation - their unarmoured is wisdom and doesn’t allow shields, barbarians is con and allows shields
Few wrong thing with Ranger
ALL Ranger can use spells, some just get more than others, and Gloom Stalker isnt about Magic, its about Ambushing and Skirmishing which is what Rangers can allready do well by default
Also, while Hunters Mark and Ensnaring Strike LOOK like they could be usefull in combat, in reality you are wasting more time using barely usefull spell when you have soo much other options
Saying Hunters Mark and Ensnaring Strike are a must have is the same logic as Paladins needing to Spamm Smite, or Warlocks spamming Eldritch Blast + Hex
When you can just, do litteraly cast anything else

Melee is pronounced "Meh-lee" because it's written in English and has to conform to English standards.
With the appropriate umlauts, written in French (it's origin), it would be pronounced "Meh-lay".
Anything else said is factually incorrect.

Your barbarian comment: do the math: dex constitution wont be higher then armor.. so like in any other class unarmored defence is just a roleplay choice.
Just consider a normal barbarian statt block:
Strength 16(max 22 i u dont if u overgoe feeds for staats improuvment)
Constitution 15( +2ad)
Dex 14 (+2ad)
Wisdom 12 int 8
Armor defence: 10 + 2 const +2 dex = 14! That no defence at all when u consider they wil atack u all the time since u are the tank and! With advantage because u are flanked or because u chose to reckless attack!
And befor u say but i will imrouve them thats only levl one! Realy? U wint imrouve strength first at levl 4 and 8? Ok but then at levl 12 u say? Realy? No feed? Great weapon master? But 16 then? No body gets to 16 and even if u put 2 in dex what those armor of 15 does at levl 16 and above😂😂😂😂 as the tank.. mage gets that at levl 1😅.
At least learn how to pronounce melee correctly there.
I’d recommend not getting this game. The way people talk about it way better than the actual gameplay. Some classes just suck and I don’t really want to play the ones that don’t so to me it was a waste of money

I'm playing a Cleric, but I'll have to download a mod just to worship Sune. Shame, but it seems they couldn't be bothered to just include all of the gods, let alone a canonically very popular one, even though they had the time and energy to animate getting "nuzzled" by a bear.

For people who haven’t played and are confused by everything, I can tell you as a non-dnd player than no choice you make matters. The game isn’t designed for fun it’s designed for math so literally just put any point wherever you want and just do what you think is best it really doesn’t matter
DnD at it's heart is an RPG, a Role Playing Game.
The aim of every RPG is to roleplay, nothing else.
If you want "big numbers go brrr", you can do that.
But, that is not the intent or aim of the game.
