    Mahler dedicated this movement to his wife Alma:
    "Wie ich Dich liebe, Du meine Sonne,
    ich kann mit Worten Dir's nicht sagen.
    Nur meine Sehnsucht kann ich Dir klagen
    und meine Liebe, meine Wonne!“
    „How much I love you, you my sun,
    I cannot tell you that with words.
    I can only lament to you my longing
    and my love, my bliss!”

    Not being familiar with the instrument, only having heard recordings of it in orchestral contexts, I had the preconception of harp I think many do--a simply pretty and sweet sound that evokes images of cherubs dancing in pink skies and that sort of thing. I'm glad I listened a little more carefully because it has a singularly deep, sonorous, complex character than I would have realized otherwise. Its sound gives even the simplest, 'pretty' melodies more depth and gravity.

      You are absolutely right, many people have this misconception of harp, and this is a big problem for the harp..
      But I am very glad that you have discovered the harp now, and I hope you keep discovering it and that you spread the word how amazing this instrument actually is!

    I'm surprised that the lowest string keep vibrating for so long throughout the last few bars - holding a wonderful but subtle foundation for such a soft ending. Wonderful!

    • @elisabethplank
      @elisabethplank  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Yes, these strings vibrate for a long time. I wanted to use as many different "specialities" of the harp's soundscape as possible

    I love that you did this and that you did it so well! It’s such a simple piece yet complex piece of music. It’s lovely to hear such long ringing tones and their natural decay. I’m extremely impressed with the lack of pedal noise.

    Non les notes sont comme parfois tombées sans raccord , car le son est trop réverbéré , cela ne fonctionne presque pas du tout , hélas..l'acoustique travaille contre vous à certains moments , donc usez de d'avantage du nuances et la réverbération oh méchante réverbération sera moindre .. Mais l'acoustique et cette grande vitre toute proche est massacrante puisque les vitres sont le pire ennemi du son ..
