plugshare is essential for the charging deserts in Texas! specially for stations that CLOSE and restrict access after hours

If people would just do their checkins, it'd be even more useful...

Yes, we MUST hold charge providers accountable. I don't drive electric yet, but when I do go EV, it is my intent to report faulty chargers whenever encountered. Also, if you know of a charger that has recently failed and was repaired quickly, it would be a good idea to publicly recognize the prompt repair. Give the provider an attaboy for acting quickly, hopefully this will give them incentive to keep up the good work.

The key thing is you really want one convenient place to charge. If you own your home, it's easy. If you don't, and your landlord doesn't have any options, maybe start asking them about it. And know this, the average car is on the road for 13 years. The number of EVs sold 13 years ago is a rounding error, compared to now, meaning the number of EVs on the road are growing fast. You won't be the only one looking for a charger. Also, if you are a used car buyer, the Model 3 and Bolt went on sale in 2017, and not in large numbers. I think the Y and the Mach e a couple years later. Anyway, the options are growing fast.

Encountered a charging issue last night and reported it in detail with time, timezone, station, and situation including the charging graph where it started at 60kW and dropped to 0kW at 10mins and continued billing for the full 50mins the car was connected. Shows in Chargepoint as offline now which helps other drivers plan around it. Good advice! Thank you.

I have to admire the ethics presented here, even though I've ashamedly lapsed into the "why bother reporting another zero out of four working EA stations experience?" recently. If the operators really ARE interested in improving the station reliability, though, I think a LOT more attention should be paid to diagnostics and error reporting. It should be all but impossible for a station to be faulty without its owner/operator's knowledge.

Range Anxiety Tip: if you’re on a road trip and you’re cutting it close on remaining charge at destination, try slowing down. The longer you do this for the more range you’ll have at your destination. 5mph slower on the highway makes a big difference in efficiency and only adds about 5 minutes of driving per hour… easy piece of mind.

I've been told by a charging network operator (in Canada) that throwing the cable over the charger is not ideal because it makes the charging cable more prone of falling to the ground and cause additional damage. The best is really to report it in the app of the charging network and they can remotely deactivate the charger. In the case of Tesla, they turn off the lights in the Tesla logo on the charger (but I admit, this is not always that visible, especially during the day).

Years ago, a lot of people bought Pintos, Vegas, and Gremlins. Smart people who valued quality and reliability bought Toyotas. There will always be people who settle for the substandard.

Sometimes the issue also isn’t the charger. Had an issue last weekend where my Mach-E wouldn’t charge but a couple F-150 Lightnings pulled in after me and charged without any issues.

@@transportevolved oh, sorry! missed that one. I have reported issues with public charging before, and have had good luck getting stations back online.

The last time I called EA, there was no answer, and I let it ring a long while.

Yes, they do, but without you saying when something happened, those logs are meaningless.

Nice, common-sense advice. However, I long for the time when driving an EV is less do-it-yourself and a bit simpler transportation.

T the charger have a QR code on them to simplify reporting a problem. Then again why are these companies actively scanning all their charging stations to check they're functional.
