Hello to our 5 days friends -- thanks for watching, we have an exciting new series starting next Friday for 6 weeks and then we will be back with more Try Living with Lucie! MAKE SURE YOU SUBSCRIBE to see it th-cam.com/users/refinery29tv
+Refinery29 +Lucie Fink This video came at such a perfect time! I've been struggling this past month with saving money, especially after the holiday season ("yikes" is all I have to say for my wallet in December & January...) so I tried to do the $50 challenge this week, which surprisingly worked out better than I had thought, I spent $57, but it was TOUGH. This video applies more to long-term living in that I could do these little things every week without feeling as restricted as I did with just $50 :) Thanks Lucie--can't wait for the new content to come!!
The best ways of saving money definitely involve wider views than a week. Like shopping sales for food. Getting an item that you'll be able to use for weeks or months when it's on sale is always a good thing. And working lazy meals into your grocery shop, like getting a frozen pizza or something microwavable, is still going to be cheaper than going out, and it keeps you going to the kitchen to find food instead of your car. I'm also a big fan of thrift shopping, and the extra effort is worth it for getting something that not every other woman at your job owns. And thrifting a higher quality piece is going to serve you better over time than buying cheap new clothes from fast fashion places.
I seriously can't get enough of Lucie or this series! The $50 budget video was such an interesting video, so I'm happy we get to see an extension of one of my favorites from this series. :)
maybe if you realize you will walk x number of days you could buy a numbed pass instead and if you don't have unlimited it would make you walk more. doubles as free exercise
+milikoshki Time is money! A monthly pass is definitely cheaper if your walk to work/school would take up time that could be used productively. It would take me 1hr45min to walk to school (one way), it takes 20-40min by bus. Since I have classes that start at 8:30am, not a chance I'm waking up earlier than 5am when I've been up until 12am doing homework - risking alertness and focus during school (which ends around 4:30pm) or taking up valuable study time afterward. Luckily, a "free" transit pass is included with tuition (~$40 per semester, normally +$100 per month).
If you buy a 30 day metro card you are magically saving money by walking to work one day a week. In fact, you're actually losing money because each time you take advantage of an unlimited ride pass, it lowers the cost of a single ride since you're paying one fixed price for it. I'm all for walking places, but it's not some magical money saving thing if you're still buying an unlimited ride pass.
this might be an odd one but since I've seen a few videos evolving around that topic (although just 5 days might not be long enough): 5 days of not shaving?
Fantastic video! Ahh I got some really great advice from this! As a new student who spends most of their money on pizza and art supplies this was great! Can't wait for more :)
I always walk to and from work. I have two workplaces and one's 30 minutes away up a massive hill but I've worked out by walking it saves me £50-£55 a month.
On the receipts from cvs pharmacy sometimes u get free money, sometimes a dollar, two, or three. I immediately spend it because otherwise I end up losing the receipt. I think it's called cash rewards or something.
I loved the video! I try to save money myself even though I'm only 14 and don't have a real job yet, but I'm a babysitter and I get allowance. Sometimes it's really hard when there's so much spending going on around you. But I think this is something everybody should do or try because it can teach you some very valuable lessons :)
I work very hard,I walk to every place because I don't own a car, I do grocery because I don't eat out... Basically I don't waste my money, but at the end of the month all my income is gone. The problem: I live in Venezuela
Need some tips? Just ask students! We are able to live without money...or almost P/S First I thought potatoes are the cheapiest vegetable. Nope. That's carrots. Grilled carrots, smashed carrots, boiled carrots, carrot cake, carrot shake. You just become orange after couple of weeks but reeeeal cheep
+Hi I am Alice butttt its cheaper than going out in manhattan to a bar, ordering like $15 worth of food and then $5 per drink with travel costs too, I'm guessing. I live in London and thats kind of the price, except its a good £4/5 to get from like zone 4 to zone 1 and back, I have no idea about travel costs in NYC tho
what about 5 days of living on minimum wage or 5 days of living on tipped wages? you could try 5 different minimum/ tipped wage jobs, and figure out how much you should be setting aside per a week for rent, health insurances and other bills. then you are only allowed to spend money that's left over after paying your rent/ bills!
If you have a monthly pass, walking once a week makes no sense. You still pay for the full month!
eizhowa hatred
Shakira Langmead nope, just sensible
5 days of extreme couponing!
That coupon guy is my favorite 😂
Yah but it annoyed me how he said coopon instead of coupon
haha when walking, you found more new places to spend money ;)
Didn't spend a couple of dollars on the subway ended up spentng $40 for dinner
Lol I was about to comment that and then I saw this haha

Refinery29 hi

Why would she walk to save money if she is going to pay for the monthly pass the rest of the week anyway?
but... you don't save money by walking to work if you buy a monthly pass... it's unlimited.. so technically you're wasting money :P
Haha - if you have the pass already, USE IT! But the money saving tip is -- don't buy the pass!!! :) Xx
makes sense :D

5 days of shopping local, little man, mom and pop shops ONLY. NO CHAINS. SHOP SMALL!
