"nothing is straight in this book, and neither am I", words to live by lol. Lines being straight is yet another impossible life expectation. Thanks for sharing, I'm still figuring out how I want to set up my reading journal for the new year!
Love it!! A friend from a real life bookclub that I go to offered to do a journal for me. I'll be getting it on Wednesday at our next bookclub. I can't wait.
Omgosh Wren! I can’t even imagine trying to pick a favourite page, they’re so beautiful. For your tiny books on your bookshelf, you could number them and have a list of the books on another page, if you didn’t want to try to write tiny.
Hi! New subscriber here and I love your nails, rings, taste in stickers and washi tape and just...yeah. All the things! I'm an, old ghoulish soul who has always wanted to keep a reading journal and just never started. Watching your set up has been so inspiring I think I might just give it a go in 2025!!
I’m so glad I’m not the only one where the only thing I seem to be able to track is reading! I’ve basically sacked off any other habits or goals that don’t revolve around books as it’s just not gonna happen! 😂
The DNF graveyard is such a fun Idea! I might steal that one. Since I started using the library more I've really branched out into different genres but also dnf way more books!
I've gotten so many ideas from watching your video for my own reading journal! I too struggle to do the monthly spreads. I love the looks of them once I've done them. But I usually dread making them each month. So I think only doing the yearly journal will definitely be one of the ideas I borrow.
I love the theme you chose for your journal (especially the skeleton for the cover page). Your challenges look very fun and I like that you included ways to diversify your reading. I would reccomend the Molly the Maid Series for Autism, and the Blood of Stars Duology for Physical Disability.
Love your setup, can't wait for the journal I've ordered to arrive so I can start my own. If you're looking for something non-cis to read, try Tempeste O'Riley's Desires Entwined series. If mpreg doesn't squick you out, Groom of Convenience by Vicktor Alexander is worth a read.
Maybe you could do a TBR bookshelf by genere, a separate bookshelf for each one and do multiple so you have enough room. I'm going to create an index book for all my owned books. I will have pages that just catalog them by title, by series, genere, pages for favorite books, and authors.
I had a quick look at my read lgbt shelf on Goodreads to see if I could help with the older years for the queer books! Mysterious Skin and Dream Boy came out in 1995 (both very harrowing books though!) Brokeback Mountain in '97 The World of Normal Boys in 2000 Rainbow Boys in '01 The Year of Ice in '02 Geography Club, Boy Meets Boy and Rainbow High in '03 (and Rainbow High would work for a sequel!) Sugar Rush '04 Rainbow Road and Totally Joe '05 A Strong and Sudden Thaw in '06 Call Me By Your Name, Saints of Augustine, A Secret Edge, Hero and The God Box in '07 Thinking Straight, How They Met and Other Stories, What They Always Tell Us and Out of the Pocket in '08 In Mike We Trust and Sprout '09 Blue is the Warmest Colour (comic) 2010 The Song of Achilles and Stick in '11 The Miseducation of Cameron Post, Always Raining Here (manga), Here's To You Seb Pike '12 Golden Boy, Openly Straight, Proxy, More Than This and Young Avengers (comic) '13 Grasshopper Jungle, One Man Guy, Princess Princess Ever After (comic) , I'll Give You the Sun, I Hear the Sunspot (manga) '14 Not Otherwise Specified, The Glass House, Anything Could Happen, More Happy Than Not, Melissa (formally known as George), Carry On, How To Be a Normal Person, Our Dreams at Dusk vol 1 (if you wanted a reread before carrying on with the series) '15 Radio Silence, Fjord Blue, I Hear the Sunspot vol 2, Whatever.: or how junior year became totally f$@ked, Our Dreams at Dusk vol 2, Stag's Run (you can get this for free on kindle, it's the first book in a series and it's an indie author), Leo Loves Aries, Love is Love (comic), Tin Man, History is All You Left Me, Release, My Summer of You vol 1 (manga), Dress Codes for Small Towns, They both Die at the End, Autoboyography, Far From the Tree, The Witch Boy (comic), The Wicker King, Our Dreams at Dusk 3 '17 Ok, I think we're in the realms of MANY books to choose from for the rest of the years so I'll stop 😅
I read 2 sci-fi books written by Melissa Scott that are queer. The first book was written in '92 but the second book, Dreaming Metal, was written in '97. They're slow paced but I liked the 2nd better.
I'm not sure about it, but maybe add some queer manga/mahwa/etc. and translated light novels in your list of the queer books by year. Heck, maybe even add fanfiction (if you read them) if by the time 2025 ends you can't find any literary works for your challenge. Maybe include essays, novellas, etc. as possibilities. (Essays can be included in a book, but you can use the original publication year.) Hope these suggestions can help you with that particular challenge.
I *love* your Queer the Year challenge! I was already thinking it was kind of funny that your name is Wren and you use they/them pronouns, because one of the two POV characters in my fantasy novel Fae & Fury also uses they/them pronouns and is named Wren! I came here for journal inspiration and I'll definitely be sticking around to hear some more queer book recs! Also as a fellow gay, can confirm the gays l o v e celestial stuff!
Love this video and your journal, so pretty! Please tell me some queer picture books, i really want to diversify baby book fiends collection. Yes, they already have quite the collection, but it’s only because I already owned them, haha, it’s what happens when mum’s a primary school teacher!
Read this series outfoxing the paranormal by Jordan l. Hawk. First published in 2022. So far there is two books. Queer trans main character. And it seems like it would be right up your alley. Or you know there is a whole huge selection of the supernatural books and Dean Winchester is most definitely bisexual. It reads in the books pretty well. I think there are like 19 novels for that.
Absolutely in love with the DNF graveyard, I'm totally gonna use that in my journal this year!! ❤
This is so ridiculously beautiful! It really makes me want to make my own but I've historically not been great at upkeeping something like this.

Yesss I used the crow one from this Halloween!!

I feel you on how long those boarders can take 😂 my black pens also suffered for them. Love the layouts!

Dos and Donuts of Love was really cute!🎉
So beautiful 😍 you’ve inspired me to start my own but gosh these pages are just magical.

700 kindle books in a year!? Didn’t that cost a mortgage? Got my kindle last month… should I be very afraid lol
