Gorbachev came to say goodbye to his former enemy and friend. During the Cold War Gorbachev and Reagan were at odds over the Berlin Wall and the START missile talks. Then Russia collapsed and Gorbachev and Reagan held joint speeches at the Wall and Reagan told him to tear it down. On November 9, 1989 The Berlin Wall came down just as both men were leaving office to hand their governments over to Yeltsin and Bush. In retirement Reagan invited Gorbachev over to his ranch and he accepted now he is here to say goodbye.

They started as enemies at first, but only because their predecessors were adversaries. In reality, they were brothers, and represented what the USA and Russia could truly be, and that is brothers and sisters. We need noble men like them so badly in our modern world.

Before he died, Gorbachev said Putin destroyed his life’s work. He wanted the world to get along. No war, just diplomacy. He said diplomacy would make Russia strong and respected. And better for his people. Putin ruined his dream and life’s work. How very different these two Russian leaders are. One actually lived for his people and the other for himself. Mr. Gorbachev, rest in peace.

How in the world could two enemies, two totally different personal ideologies in the end be friends? Reagan and Gorbachev fought each other, they were bitter enemies. But in the end, even after Reagan defeated the Soviet Union, the two became friends. Seeing Gorbachev touch the US flag, the symbol that was opposite of his ideology, and the flag of the Country that defeated his ideology, is INCREDIBLY moving. I will never forget that moment. The two greatest leaders of the world in their time, who in the end despite their differences could respect each other and become friends. Thank you President Reagan for standing strong, standing for freedom and liberties, and not giving in. You helped the free world defeat what was otherwise a threat to those ideals. And Gorbachev, thank you for recognizing what the free world was and needed. Thank you for honoring our President, and being the most humble person the world has ever seen. You were a wonderful leader in the end, and may the world in its history never forget what you had done and the great person you became.

It was quite remarkable that so many world leaders cared a American president died. It is quite uncommon to go to a funeral and pay respect to the deceased. I think that is one of a few times a Canadian 🇨🇦 leader, Russian leader, and Japanese leader attended a funeral for a American president. It's going to be like for Abe's funeral. Most world leaders probably like Abe more than each other, but he was very popular. He loved most countries enthusiastically and every leader ❤️ could sense that.

The Soviet Union collapsed Christmas of 1991 when Gorby resigned, from that point on no Soviet uniforms or symbolism was ever worn by officials, it would’ve also been quite disrespectful to wear the uniform that was associated with war at the funeral of a government official
