It sounds a lot like Depeche Mode's very early stuff... incredible how many sounds from the 80s I hear...mixed with more modern sounds and it's like a beautiful meshing of the two... It makes me melt inside....
+Jeremy Doe Spot on assessment, sir. Unfortunately, folks who either aren't avid music obsessives or in their mid-30's (or older) just won't pick out the connections.
+Kreepy Kritter i'm not an avid music obsesser lol, I'm 19 and I picked up the Depeche Mode influence immediately because I was raised listening to them and I particularly like their music a lot
I discovered Meg Myers because she did an awesome cover of Running up that Hill by Kate Bush. Any woman covering Kate Bush is absolutely worth checking out. Been a fan for several years now. Thank you David Gilmour and Thank you Meg Myers.
Another favorite!! I like that it's totally different from anything on the album.. Lemon Eyes is close to this.. but this is the most upbeat song on the album. Meg's voice is so strong and she would out sing a lot of pop girls on the radio... list is too long haha... Meg is best at what she does.. being creative and different. I enjoy this song a lot and love that it stands out on the album when you listen as a whole.
One of my fav songs on the album. I dont know about anyone else, but I kinda get a new order vibe from this song, but for sure a 80s new wave vibe which I love.
I think she understands... I've revisited her music again for the past few hours. A friend of mine took me to one of her shows at the now closed U St Music Hall for my birthday 2 years ago.
it's so rare for her to have happy-ish love songs. take me to the disco has none of those. but like, now when i think about it, most of her songs are about self-discovery and trying to help yourself through a hard time. she doesn't write love songs that are like an homage to her loved one. i think only this one, and after you are like that, where she is singing to and for someone else, whether most of her songs are about her looking at herself and expressing herself, rather than showing love for someone... i'm tired and have a paper to write but all i can think about is meg myers and the fact that maybe she thinks i'm boring
I agree! It's like after she did this then I her next album comes out its like ,"what happened to you ,Meg?" I think she wrote this for her then fiancee but that relationship ended badly plus Atlantic Records dropped her. All that took its toll on her. There's more to this.
She said in an interview that she writes music as a way to cope or let out emotions, etc. It's in the interview where she discusses Desire and how her boyfriend at the time broke up with her after she released the music video. I think a lot of artists do something similar, but you can really feel it come through in a more clear manner with her music, I think. Which may be partially why I like her music so much, as well as it just sounding incredible.
as long as this doesn't become a staple for her style, I don't see the problem with experimenting Artists are supposed to be allowed to experiment with change in style, that's what make them artists
Heard this the other day on RDA, definitely caught my attention. Love the lyrics, love the song definitely. Gonna have to give more of her stuff a listen in the future.
You deserve to be famous more than anyone. I hope you will caught everyone's attention and you won't be able to even see my comment because there will be a lot of comments!!! You're perfect.
I shared Megs music with some friends and both of them made a playlist on spotify called "Emo songs I wouldn´t listen in public"...both of them added "Numb". I´m in rage >:i
i love meg myers.. her new album rocks... less edgy than her earlier stuff but I guess shes going for the radio or something cause her sound is different, softer and toned down for the radio it seems. I still like it but I like her freaky unique vocal noises... don't hear it so much on her debut album... I hope it does good tho cause I really like her
+VEGA4554 this is actually one of my favourite songs of hers. If she puts this much heart into songs I don't think it matters what genre it is. Besides, if she stayed the same the whole time it would get boring.
+VEGA4554 It is now and always has been POP. She does not create her sound, the producers do. Also, she does not play the cello - on tour she has an Asian man with her to do that... but the band never gets credit.
Have u heard of FKA Twigs? She is a singer & it would be great if Meg took her approach. What I mean by this is, release EP's of the more darker less poppy music & release more upbeat & "Mainstream" music & package those as your albums.
"Baby, I just wanna be with youB. aby, I need to know your love is true" A true poet. Never in the history of music has this rhyme been used... [/sarcasm]
How could one of earth, foresaken . Mistooken,.. missed ,… re--butler’s from Batmans plants 🪐,! Assuming no granite planets, smoke …. Mind a bid especially
Or rather dont, because your trend followers and id rather her career survive because shes a real artist and not because half-flaked birdbrains chime in once every year to have an opinion.
You guys do realize this is over-produced pop music, whether you thought it was better sounding "dark like before" or not...? Why doesn't anyone give credit to the composer of the tracks, or the band who actually plays the instruments in her songs? And no, I am not talking about her picking up a bass and playing quarter notes...
Well, it is quite common situation when vocal/frontman takes all attention. I was (and still I am ,in fact)a big fan of "Marillion" rock group and when former frontman nicknamed "Fish" has quit, everybody was expecting that this is the end of this group. It was not ;) . On other end, when Peter Steele from "Type O Negative" has died, it ended this group after all. It just that works this way that face on the front is a brand for a group. Composer of her songs is fine and specially this guy playing cello also makes good part in her success and I have noticed that. Meg is skilled vocalist with great talent and big charm, but I think that without this background work with composition and production, she would not achieve anything. Nobody can. It is normal and I wouldn't worry about this. Just enjoy music :) BTW. If I have wrote something not very grammar way, sorry. English is not my native language.
You spoke English splendidly! Yes I understand all of these things you mentioned. I commented on this originally because it seemed as though Meg would lose fans over not sounding "dark" anymore even though what they considered to be "dark" was neither ALL HER nor was it much different from the way the songs sound now.. It is still pop rock at the end of the day and they do what they do well :) This is why they've made it so far. I think the cellist is my favorite part :P
Well, we both agree . I am very curious in what direction her career will go. She have great artist potential as a mixture of natural voice timbre, plus good singing technique and of course soul behind that. Voice modulation in "Lemon Eyes" is excellent. To be honest, first that attracted my attention na TH-cam clip miniature was her face and this kind of girl triggers me "knight mode on". It is just a small digression ;) I am just a man. Returning to essence, many people wrote that she coud even sing in metal group and listening this scream ending quite aggresive and neurotic "Heart Heart Head" I can believe that. On other end she is able to sing another kind of songs that for description of them we have here in Poland, funny word that I cannot translate directly. It is playful neologism taken from word "bedcloth". Usually means song that you can listen in bed with someone loved, or to create mood to take someone to bed ;) . This kind of song is "After You" She has just many directions to go, so we will see. About cello part, I have noted that generally string instruments like violin, cello ads a lot of mood and taste to most of pop and rock parts that was used. We have here polish violinst named Michal Jelonek, playing violin with rock suport in background. His pieces are on TH-cam, so you can try if you like fiddlesticks.
:) thanks for the recommendation. You are also one of the most level-headed people I have had a discussion with on TH-cam! hahaha some people cannot escape the bias and have an open conversation about an artist they like... they seem too defensive and don't see the facts at times. I think she has great potential and I absolutely do not enjoy nor follow any current pop artists. The fact that I was asked to cover one of her songs and then actually enjoyed it, as well as a couple others I listened to, was quite shocking to me. This to me meant she must have something special and real. I hope she sticks with playing instruments and singing soulful. She does not need all this production and she wouldn't fit well in a metal band if she were unable to express a lot of the emotion she has in her voice and performances. Of course, this is MY bias :)
I have no problem with variations in style of music, but I do have a massive problem with massive overproduction. The whole reason why people enjoy your music is because it has the clarity of a signal sent through an exposed nerve. On a bunch of your new songs posted to this channel it sounds like you're getting so far away from that--so far away that it even sounds like you're 20ft away from your microphone at various points in this song. The songs you've released recently sound like you used a synthesizer to synthesize a synthesizer's synthesizer because we heard you liked synthesizers, yo... and THEN put it through post-production and softened the vocal track on top of it (Feather is the only one that even remotely sounds like it's attempting to break away from this). Don't believe me? Put on any decent pair of headphones or sit in the perfect spot in the room for that 5.1+ system, close your eyes, and compare this track to say, desire, cold, or monster. The loss of that nearly palpable impact your music is known for is pretty blatantly audible, and it has nothing to do with the lyrics or music. Don't get me wrong: I think at their base levels, this and motel are great songs, the amount of tampering is just severely apparent, and diminishing their potential to be instant millon-view videos for you. When the level of disconnect is this audible people won't catch on until they hear it live or have some serious EQ systems to counter those effects, and even then they're going to be like "wtf? This doesn't even sound like the same song." when they hear it elsewhere. You also have to be aware that this doesn't really fly in this genre. While Nikki Minaj and Beyonce and Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus can get away with stuff like this, people that listen to your genre of music are generally going to be looking for the polar opposite of that. The aforementioned are who they listen to when they want to turn their brains off--you're the person who they'll want to listen to when they want to feel something. Disconnects like this are really, really, bad for that.
Her style has changed, over the years. This album is probably my favorite phase.
I love this song. It's a delicate bit of light on an otherwise beautifully dark album.
And yet still somewhat dark in a way I can't completely express.
I've honestly never been as thoroughly enraptured with a musician as I am with Meg Myers. Her music is out of this world!
This whole album has songs that make me want to get up and act out each lyric with my whole heart and soul.
It sounds a lot like Depeche Mode's very early stuff... incredible how many sounds from the 80s I hear...mixed with more modern sounds and it's like a beautiful meshing of the two... It makes me melt inside....
Depeche Mode's "Speak & Spell" album in particular...
+Jeremy Doe Spot on assessment, sir. Unfortunately, folks who either aren't avid music obsessives or in their mid-30's (or older) just won't pick out the connections.
+Kreepy Kritter I'm 18 and I see the connection lol I love the 80s sound post punk and new wave
YES
+Kreepy Kritter i'm not an avid music obsesser lol, I'm 19 and I picked up the Depeche Mode influence immediately because I was raised listening to them and I particularly like their music a lot
I love Meg's darker songs, but this song is still amazing . This song is dark in a way, too. So obsessed with Meg atm
Even though Desire's the song that drew me to her music, and I still consider it my favorite, I really like replaying this one on loop.
The music genuinely sounds like an amazing track to a retro game
I love how she honestly expresses herself... I don't believe in being repressed so that's why I like her.
If more people repressed their emotions and expressed them at appropriate times there would be much less murder and evil.
@@moto-fl3rd yes I agree 💯
I hate her for expressing yourself. You know exactly why....
@@xzec no I don't, why?
refreshing to hear. i love her voice!
I just discovered her Friday night. This song today on Sunday. She's so damn talented, this song is awesome!
I bought her cd "Sorry" for "Desire", but I'm hooked on the whole thing. She doesn't hold anything back.
My favorite female artist!!!
Its my depressive episode and I get to choose the comfort artist!! ilysm Meg
I'm really digging the 80s synth-pop sound of this song.
it's been like two months since i discovered this song and i still listen to it on the daily. meg myers is so incredibly talented!!
My anthem for Rowynn. Meg Myers is a goddess.
Her voice on this one is lovely
at best her best here! What happened to her!
Other of they greatest hits in th album..shame its not a single..
I discovered Meg Myers because she did an awesome cover of Running up that Hill by Kate Bush. Any woman covering Kate Bush is absolutely worth checking out. Been a fan for several years now. Thank you David Gilmour and Thank you Meg Myers.
I wonder if Meg thought about having an official video for the song. It would be interesting how it would be portrayed really.
Another favorite!! I like that it's totally different from anything on the album.. Lemon Eyes is close to this.. but this is the most upbeat song on the album. New order "love triangle"
Love the beat
So good. ❤
Favorite song❤
Reminds me of the New Order - Low Life CD sound, like "Sunrise". Whole "Sorry" CD is awesome.
Subculture, not sunrise
Great album, every track Meg releases is a keeper. Excited to see more and more. Lemon Eyes and Feather are my favorites so far :)
Meg you are the best!!

+VEGA4554 Don't mind me, I like all of her stuff honestly.
+VEGA4554 this is actually one of my favourite songs of hers. If she puts this much heart into songs I don't think it matters what genre it is. Besides, if she stayed the same the whole time it would get boring.

I wanna hear this in a 70s set piece movie
is this a homage to bizzare love triangle?
or Depeche Mode's very early stuff... it has a wonderful sound that is definitely influenced from sounds of the 80s that I love...
💙
I listen to this purely for the percussion
Perfect o MG 😅😍
Does this remind anyone else of like, old school Sonic on Sega? Totally sounds like it would be, the instrumental haha
forget american express....shes priceless.
Have you guys realized that "A Bolt From the Blue" means that love struck her like a 'bolt of lightning' and the person 'came out of the blue'?
omg good theory haha
Shantel, Meg is talking about herself being the bolt. She fell from heaven. She said she fell from the sky like a bolt of lightning. ;)
this is not so pop! i like it
Some weird shit I definitely know I’ve already “liked” this cause it’s on my playlist WTF TH-cam shit
she is talented. but I enjoy her earlier darker stuff

It's a great change, negativity or sad tunes 24/7 is a poor musical decision. This is happy and melancholy so it's perfect.
+Mersades Miller i must disagree with you , this album is great , i like all her music , she is the artist of the year hands down
she still has a ton of dark stuff. but she ways wanted to make pop music. this is electronic .. and it's real. weirdly my fave
+Mersades Miller She has songs on the album that are darker like her stuff from the EPs. She just likes messing with different sounds.
За свободу каждого!)
No one gonna talk about how she looks exactly like Marlene mc'cohen?
MEG🤘🙏🦋🎸🎶🎵🎤👼😌🏆👍
I wanna record a song with her.. I have tons of ideas... she is my love... she just sings what I want to hear. Plays guitar. She is perf

По моему лучшая песня из нового альбома, по скорее бы видео.
I just discovered her music today, good stuff! Also check out PVRIS for another great sound! I wish all of them great success!!

Victoria Justice vibes?
Where is the sound of the cello?
I hope she doesn't change her style to the pop sound :(
Fun fact: this song was used in a porn video. Google 'Goon trainer' to see the very NSFW evidence yourself.
Camo78 Also her song Desire is used in a cartoon porn video that's why I found her lol
Barbie Jeon Maybe 9/10 Meg Myers fans are actually perverts.
Camo78 and your part of the 1/10 that observers 9/10th of the people you call perverts hahha oh the irony xD
That's not ironic. And I never said I wasn't a pervert.
Camo78 wow wtf
This is a SINGLE track from an entire album, grow a brain
