I saw PJ three nights back to back to back in New Orleans. They were all amazing shows and Dave was the star. Furthermore, I met the man and spent a little time with him. He was accommodating, kind, and gracious with his time, remarks, and comments with me. Thanks Dave, you're a true pro!!!!

Dave's attack is off the charts. His energy is unmatched. Pearl Jam was never the same afterwards in my opinion. They just didn't have that power they once had. His pocket, precision, originality and dynamics are at the very top of all rock drummers EVER. To this day I still use a lot of the cymbal work he did in these songs. He was a huge inspiration for me becoming a drummer. Thanks, Dave for the inspiration and all the great memories growing up... and to this day!

Ten was released in Aug of 1991. While Dave didn't record the album, he joined the band shortly after. When you watch any live performances from that time, it is Dave on the drums. I especially love this lo-fi local show in Seattle around that time (th-cam.com/video/b46zX4js0-c/w-d-xo.html) While I do respect Matt, to me, Dave will always be the drummer for PJ. Dave if you're out there, please know that many of us still appreciate you, respect you, and your drumming had an ENORMOUS impact on our playing!

One of my favourite stories about Dave was not long after he was let go from PJ; he and a few other drummers were on a radio show taking calls when none other than Neil Peart rings up and addresses Dave last by saying "Hey, Dave, so glad to hear you've gotten rid of your sidemen". Really made Abbruzzeze's day! All hail Dave Krusen, Matt Chamberlin, Dave Abbruzzeze, Jack Irons and Matt Cameron.

Man.... I so love Pearl Jam live. The most astonishing thing about the drumming is the intensity and most of all how he is able to maintain it though out the whole performance. It feels hype and almost rushed but yet never get ahead of himself. Love it!

AiC will forever be my favorite grunge-era band. But Dave will forever be my favorite grunge-era drummer. He absolutely kills it opening Vs. with Go & Animal. I was praying you'd analyze a 1993 show when they play both back to back. But Even Flow is a nice example of Dave's prowess as well.

I too would love to know what it’s like playing in a with a drummer this powerful… like, as a guitar player, I can tell you the better the drummer the better you feel. You’d have to play SO f*cking loud to keep up with this kind of power, which would feel so sick. But yeah… this must feel like being strapped to the front of a rocket ship - in a good way. 🙌👏👏👏

Interesting you mention Matt Chamberlain; even hard-core Pearl Jam fans forget the Chamberlain era. However, without Matt Chamberlain, Dave Abbruzzese is never a member of the band. The two were old friends from the Deep Ellum music scene in Dallas and Abbruzzese was Chamberlain's recommendation to fill the Pearl Jam drum seat when the latter took the _SNL_ house band gig only weeks after he himself joined the band. It would've been fascinating to hear how the band evolved had Chamberlain stuck around, but there's no question that Abbruzzese's influence on the band's sound and direction were seminal.
As for Chamberlain, I've always enjoyed his work with Critters Buggin. If you aren't already familiar, I suggest you check them out.

I don't pretend to be a drumming expert, but I'm a huge music and PJ fan and DA was by far the best drummer they had. Too bad EV and DA clashed politically. They haven't had the same groove since he has been gone. He just fit their style and provided a groove at the same time that no drummer since has come close to replicating. I appreciate that Matt Cameron allowed them to sustain a career that is still churning to this day, but I'm no fan of his drum sound or drumming in general. He just sounds so clinical to me, but no need to put someone down to say that DA was a great drummer and a tough act to follow.

I don't think anyone is gonna say Dave is/was not a great drummer. He's clearly talented and added a unique energy and dynamic to the band during his time with them. It's my understanding that his split from the band was strictly personality issue,..and specifically with Eddie. So, for all the Uber-fans that say "Dave was the best, he should still be in the band", etc. -- blame Eddie. I didn't really like PJ until Vs and Vitalogy. I prefer Matt Cameron, he is always at the service of any song and this is essencial for me to be a good drummer, besides the technicallities involved in the mastery of the instrument. Marcela. I did continue to stay musical. I had a big bad dose of soul poisoning by the way the situation with Pearl Jam was handled. I felt like I couldn't trust the industry as a whole. I did work with G & R but that served to only inforce my distrust in the machine. I worked with Roger Hodgson of Supertramp and have continued to work with many successful players that put the music before the machine. I enjoyed making quite a few records with my friends and alot of ghost sessions as well. I had to find the music again. 💓

I always felt Dave added to ten's songs. I find Matt plays them too fast. And i dont enjoy Matts versions of Jacks Songs aswell. I had to laugh at the concerts Dave Krusen filled in for Matt Cameron. He played the Ten Songs at the right pace and Eddie struggled because he was so use to the sped up Matt versions.😂😂😂 we all have different tastes. But i see 99% of people who see Dave Abbruzzese contributions in his time with Pearl Jam. See them as magical as they truly are.😝🤘🎵🎶🎵🎵🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Such a lame move to not induct David Abbruzzese, Jack Irons, and Matt Chamberlin into the RnR Hall of Fame :(

My favorite Drummers from that time in order is David Abbruzzese, Jimmy Chamberlin and Sean Kinney, I love all the music Matt Cameron did with Soundgarden, but did not like the really water-downed versions of the songs from PJ 1st 3 albums...and ever worse the change of Even Flows tempo.

I love all 3 of those drummers

This is on the TEN album and is a cult edition of an album. This is an album that can defeat timetravel. I'm so lost in this album. In a good way.

Can you imagine: "Dave's gotta go, all drummers are the same... right?"

Pearl Jam lost their sound by releasing Dave away from the band. Huge mistake.

Eddie screwed him at the hall of "fame". He was their best drummer and played on their best records. They have been boring ever since he left.

It's an Italian surname. Not "Abrusisi" like you say, ABRUZZESE.

I much prefer Dave A over ALL OTHER PJ DRUMMERS (I've seen them all live)

they were so good here by the time i saw them doing a no code tour they looked so bored and lethargic. stood there like statues like theyd rather be somewhere else we were so pissed off as young fans weve never forgiven them . Their first two albums is it and a few songs from vitalogy.
