      Honestly ? I don't think you know the meaning of that word in English because that would mean you had conducted actual independent research and had no real doubts about the statement you've made. And no person who has performed research on the matter would say such a thing because of Case ID 12-25366 and the evidence presented during the case.
      Had Japan violated an international law, the three judge panel would have stipulated it but not even the one appointed by Bill Clinton found they had violated a law. On the other hand, the evidence proved that Sea Shepherd was violent, engaging in activities that violated article 101 of the UNCLOS.
      People were harmed by the use of projectiles containing an acid that has an ICSC (ISCS 1334) and the potential of harm persisted whenever they made surfaces slippery on vessels rammed by them, on very active seas. And had they disabled these ships, the evacuation of these vessels would have been complicated by slippery decks and its remoteness.

      @@horse-lover68 Well, i'm smart enough to know that "reality programs" are not real and to not place their fictional characters on a pedestal, especially after they were forced to admit they performed fraud in regards to the Ady Gil.
      Your emotional need for them to be "the hero" doesn't change the facts in ICDR Case No. 50 20 1300 0952:
      “…the Arbitrator finds that while the Ady Gil was disabled by its collision with the Shonan Maru #2, it was not sinking on its own. Respondents nonetheless concocted and implemented a secret plan to scuttle the vessel, for their own reasons and without consulting the vessel’s owner. This decision was not made for the primary reason of reducing navigational hazards, as Respondents later claimed when their actions were brought to light, but for purposes of continuing their mission and more fundamentally maintaining the high drama that they believed the Whale Wars audience had come to expect, and on which SSCS’s own popularity (and potential future fundraising) in part depended.” - Page 65, Final Award / ICDR Case No. 50 20 1300 0952
      “…the Arbitrator found Mr. Watson’s testimony regarding certain events to be highly evasive, internally contradictory, or at odds with his own prior written statements, and in certain areas simply lacking the basic indicia of genuineness that instinctively inspires confidence and trust.” - Page 19, Final Award / ICDR Case No. 50 20 1300 0952

    Whether you agree with the policy/position/activities of the guys and gals of Sea Shepard, one thing is absolutely certain: These volunteers have balls of frickin titanium (ladies too).
    Over the last two weeks I binge-watched every available episode of Whale Wars and any "specials" I could find. While it IS clear that in many cases the crews and captains seem to be in way over their heads, and that they are barely qualified to run a ship much less engage in heroic battles at high speed and in the dark of night,,,somehow, they do it anyway. It was simply amazing to watch!
    Sea Shepard is the real deal. Paul and his officers do not know the meaning of the word "quit". I literally felt like I got to watch Pete Hammarstedt "grow up" before my eyes as I watched each season. The special "A Commander Rises" had me standing up and cheering in my living room!
    Are the people at Sea Shepard perfect? No. Are they ALWAYS right? Probably not. Do they deserve our support? ABSOLUTELY.
    A huge Bravo Zulu to all of the fine folks at Sea Shepard!

    • @canucktunes
      @canucktunes 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The word "absolutely" is defined as being "with no qualification, restriction, or limitation; totally".
      Having established their limitations yourself in your comment, it is illogical to ask for absolute support in this group.
      You may have been convinced to give them kudos for effort but this is because you are unaware of the risks they impose on other human beings and the environment to merely play the hero.
      This isn't about perfection or being "always" right. They misrepresent the impact of Japan's activities in the sanctuary to our oceans and misrepresent themselves as a solution to a threat and unlawful activity that does not exist.
      The vast majority of the whales taken in the sanctuary are from one non-endangered species whose estimated population is 670,000 and the females of this species have a calf every nine months. But Sea Shepherd implies that all whales in the sanctuary are on the edge of extinction, regardless of their IUCN Red List status, and use post hoc ergo propter hocs about quotas to appear victorious.
      Japan's activities in the sanctuary have not been deemed illegal. You won't find the word "illegal" in the March 31st, 2014 International Court of Justice ruling nor will you find a reference to an international law being breached.
      You will notice that during whale wars they also used the word "ban" instead of moratorium and "loophole" instead of exemption. These imply a legal foundation where none exist.
      There is no treaty forcing anyone to participate in the moratorium, which wan't meant to be permanent. And the sanctuary is also voluntary. If it wasn't it would be in violation of the Antarctic Treaty.
      This is the PDF of the ruling and you should note the contents of paragraphs 127, 133, 230 and 246 : www.icj-cij.org/docket/files/148/18136.pdf
      Japan has complied with this ruling by ending JARPA II. The new program, NEWREP-A, has different parameters. They're going to be taking 333 non-endangered whales, one species, per year.

      If the phytoplankton completely disappear, Humans would suffocate! Forests are not sufficient to produce O2 we need!

      Japan is taking 333 non-endangered whales from the sanctuary and the only reason why you think it's a threat is because of Sea Shepherd's exaggerations and their fan's cult like behaviour.
      Anyone that is truly concerned would have done independent research and would have found out that Japan's take is not a threat. But most SS fans don't even know what whales are being taken in the Antarctic and presume they're on the brink or have reproduction issues.

      Whaling is performed only by a mink whale.
      In fact it's increasing.

    • @atalanteism
      @atalanteism 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      No I don't eat meat at all! You seem to forget that Biodiversity is seriously damaged. For Humans Consomption, 66Billions of terrestrial Animals and 1000Billions Marine Animals are killed but out of this figures, upon these figures the 2/3 are thrown away for various purpose so (75%) are waste, misuse. According to FAO, with the increasing of Human Population, these figures will exploding. So, the speed of reconstitution of individuals does not follow. Humans don't allow the Animal time to reproduce.
      But beyond this point, whale is more than an isolated Animal. Whale preserves Phytoplankton that produce O2 (di-oxygen), as he eats their predators (zooplankton) and then regenerates it with their poo. By whaling, and so reducing their population, phytoplankton is declining, so O2 production, and dead areas are vastly growing up (dissolved oxygen deficiency). All marine animals passing through these dead zones risk asphyxiation. Animals that are too slow are systematically killed (lobsters, corals) while fast fish have a chance to escape before losing consciousness. The largest of these dead zones is 70 000 km² according to the UN. In 2003, 150 of these dead zones were discovered, compared with 450 in 2008, which gives an idea of the rapid growth of the problem. It is the lack of oxygen that causes the formation of these dead zones. In Permian, 95% of marine species would have disappeared as a result of a change in the oxygenation of the oceans. As now, this decrease in oxygenation would have begun with the disappearance of the plankton following a catastrophe (fall of a comet? Asteroid? Volcan?). For example, a decrease in clarity due to dust in the atmosphere may have caused a sharp decline in plankton photosynthesis. In the present case the cause of the disappearance of the phytoplankton would not be volcanic dust or other but the causes of which I have spoken above. But the effects would be the same, fast collapse of species but in faster still.
      So, this is the reason why whaling has detrimental consequence on life (Human and Animal) on Earth.

    www.telegraph.co.uk/science/science-news/9093407/Dolphins-should-be-recognised-as-non-human-persons.html
    A coalition of scientists, animal-rights activists, and philosophers are in agreement: dolphins, second only to humans in terms of mammalian intelligence, should be considered "non-human persons" and granted due protection under law, reports The Telegraph.
    At the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in Vancouver, the group, led by Dr. Thomas White, was canvassing for support of their "Declaration of Cetacean Rights."
    "The similarities between cetaceans and humans are such that they, as we, have an individual sense of self," said White, an ethics expert at Loyola Marymount University, to The Telegraph. "Dolphins are non human persons. A person needs to be an individual. If individuals count, then the deliberate killing of individuals of this sort is ethically the equivalent of deliberately killing a human being. The science has shown that individuality, consciousness, self-awareness is no longer a unique human property. That poses all kinds of challenges."
    Dolphin research has shown that the creatures are more intelligent than chimpanzees, they recognize their reflections in a mirror, and can even think about the future.
    The scientists originally proposed the ten Declaration of Rights for Cetaceans two years ago at a conference in Helsinki. You can sign the petition at
    www.cetaceanrights.org/

    • @canucktunes
      @canucktunes 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      info145 Yet another pointless petition based on nirvana fallacies and personal incredulity.
      Those who understand how rights were established in individual countries know that the belief that animals should obtain rights is pure fantasy and that people are being sold a false sense of worth for signing.
      People that sign these petitions may feel proud and think it adds value to their lives but in the end rights cannot be given to animals because of equality.
      Persons are given rights and are obliged to respect the rights of others, by law. Animals cannot agree or consent to these obligations and are therefore ineligible.
      The exemptions required to enable animals to continue attacking and killing each other would be deemed prejudicial because it is dependant on the loss of rights by prey, whose sentience has not been fully established.
      The eventuality of the process is status quo because it can be argued that if non-human predators are to receive exemptions in regards to their relationship to prey that humans should obtain the same rights as one of the top predators of this planet.
      There is also no consensus in science as to the sentience of dolphins or at what level sentience causes the consumption of the animal to become unfavourable. There is no opposition to the consumption of pigs in most nations...

    • @canucktunes
      @canucktunes 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Reaper The primary subject of Japan's research in the sanctuary is the minke whale, whose estimated population is 670,000 according to an American/New Zealander study published in 2010 :
      www.lenfestocean.org/~/media/legacy/Lenfest/PDFs/Ruegg-MolEcol-Minke.pdf?la=en
      In 2015/16 they're planning on taking 333 of those specific whales and the ICJ did not claim this activity was illegal or commercial in nature so the term "poaching" does not apply.

      yes i actually do. Go to there website and you can sign up to be volunteers, they don't have any paid positions a person can apply for. The captains and first mates would have to make some money as they spend alot more time working on the boat in the "off" seasons and consider it a job and worked hard to get into that career, the rest volunteer there time. ***** What are you even on about have you studied australian history....Clearly not
      The Australian frontier wars were a series of conflicts that were fought between Indigenous Australians and mainly British settlers that spanned a total of 146 years. The first fighting took place several months after the landing of the First Fleet in January 1788 and the last clashes occurred as late as 1934.[citation needed] The most common estimates of fatalities in the fighting are at least 20,000 Indigenous Australians and between 2,000 and 2,500 Europeans.
      Notice the wording of the history books Europeans.
      Australians and Europeans aren't the same thing lol.
      And Australians aren't going to feel guilty or bad for things they simply didn't do.
      You're trying to talk about things that around 100-200 years old like they some how apply to the people of today....LOL their are no 200 year old australian's
      Did you say australia has no water and depends on japan's technology?
      ROFL
      The Great Artesian Basin is one of the largest underground fresh-water reservoirs in the world. It underlies approximately 22% of Australia - occupying an area of over 1.7 million square kilometers beneath the arid and semi-arid parts of Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia and the Northern Territory.
      Oh the irony Google japan is weird the world is clearly laughing at you guy's
      And your country has aging population and won't exist
      100 years from now if japan stays on the current trend they won't have any children under 15 by 3011
      and if it continued 1000yrs Japanese wouldn't exist.

      Oi slope head i didn't take anyone's land
      You don't understand that.
      Also if you want to try educate me on the first conflict it wasn't several months after the first landing
      During 1770, Captain James Cook, a British Lieutenant, landed his ship the Endeavour at Botany Bay in New South Wales. Two Indigenous people from the area were unhappy and tried to stop Cook and his crew from coming ashore. Cook's crew were greater in number and were able to overpower them. They raised the British flag, which represented the taking of possession of land (Australia) for the King of England. Cook explored further along the coast of Australia before returning to Britain with the news of his discoveries and encounters.
      You say
      *"Australians and Europeans aren't the same thing" ----Yap.
      The foolish offenders of Europe flowed into Australia.*
      But you also said
      *Australian are the barbarian who slaughtered indigenous people and stole their land.*
      that's called a contradiction.
      *It apologized for the haughty race to the aborigine several years ago at last.*
      The government said it was sorry for the actions of the government.
      They have a crisis of extinction.
      :No they don't.
      The radiation getting to you're brain you can't even research basic Australian history.

      This case established that Sea Shepherd performed acts of piracy and could not be trusted to follow Maritime Law, having violated COLREGs and SUA Convention articles.

    Paul Watson est le digne successeur du Commandant Cousteau qui à son époque a surtout alarmé, mais avec le temps, il n'est plus question d'alarmer mais d'agir et faire face à ces auteurs de génocides japonais.

    Sea Shepherd Congratulations for your courage and tenacity!
    We all know that the Japanese whalers have the buttocks trembling, and head spin!
    The whalers are really vicious!
    All we can see with this whaling is cowardice!
    I hope that their whaling will soon sink deeply into the sea! They deserve to be punished as they don't respect the whales.
    When Japanese whalers kill a whale, they deprive the world of one of the most beautiful wonders of Nature!

      Kiwi, you support Nishim Maru? Could you give me details on their researches? Who are the PhD researchers? From which University they come from? Who are Funding those researches? Which publications they already proceeded coming from the observations on Nishim Maru ? Would be happy reading your updates..

    • @atalanteism
      @atalanteism 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Answer to the questions first I previously asked about the alleged researches of Nishim Maru? Who are the researchers on this whalers? What are the publishings of those researchers? Which universities do they come from? Who give fundings for those researches?
      I thought Japanese were more serious ad precise, not clowns...! If you can't answer to that questions This means you lost your Pride and you Honor as Nishim Maru and all japoneese supporting them!
      You sold your soul to worst than Yakuza!

      So, you confess NM is a boat for Fake researches, this is just a false allegation of this crew. What is written on the sides of the boat "RESEARCH" is totally false, phony ... There has never been any scientific research on NIsshim Maru. They are liars, manipulators, cowards who no honor as they hide behind a false scientific name for perperter massacres of large-scale whale, they are afraid to show who they are. They have no pride, nor honor! Those Japanese degrade the image of Japan for ever, and lost with them their sense of HONOR in the eyes of the world!

      you're really good at insulting people you don't know online. Do you know that the founder of Sea Shepherd was part of green peace and left because their tactics to stop whaling of our oceans were not aggressive enough and did nothing? I bet you didn't. Your argument against frederique is not even related to what is being supported in their comment.

      Si les océans meurent, nous mourrons. Quand le Japon tue une Baleine, il condamne les océans et nos vies sur le long terme. Tout cela pour l'avidité de l'Industrie de la Viande de Baleine japonaise!

    Whalers are lucky I am not in control of Sea Shepherd. If I had control, Sea Shepherd would only own 1 boat: a fully armed submarine.

      +GatorScientist He wouldn't even get the chance to sail. NGOs don't usually acquire military grade materials or submarines so Homeland Security or some other secret service would be all over his ass.
      Even if he were to board the submarine somewhere else no Navy would just allow a random submarine to sail around without inspection, especially one that is armed. They would board looking for drugs and weapons.

    • @101Osprey101
      @101Osprey101 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +canucktunes they would only find one weapon. And with any luck, it would be fully discharged by the time they found it. :)
      (I can dream, can't i?)

    • @GatorScientist
      @GatorScientist 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      canucktunes That's true, I recall an ex-Soviet Juliett-class submarine was purchased by a Florida man and then wound up abandoned at the pier after the guy's ties to drug-trafficking where discovered. If he hadn't bought the sub then the Feds wouldn't have looked at him so hard. As far as I know the guy is still on the run.
      At least 101Osprey101 admits he is dreaming. As for the weapon he's claiming discharged, it would probably be the pistol he put to his head after figuring out how screwed he was.
