  • Just a quick practice run at Hungry Valley. We only took videos of the first run of the three features we did, due to the the strong wind. The later runs were better, but we stopped recording and just enjoyed driving around the features.
The Xterra and the GX470 did really well in stock form, didn’t even need to use the lockers.

Gorman I've been there once did some test driving myself on my 2002 Sequoia! I used to own a 2006 Nissan Xterra off-road edition. Which came with factory e lockers on the rear. Mine was manual tran transmissions! But this is a fun video to watch to see what my Nissan would have accomplished since I never went here with the Nissan!

Those off-road editions with manual transmission have better gear ratios than the automatics. I’m sure that it will have no issues on these obstacles. Thanks for watching!

The GX driver is not as smooth as the other driver. You should have had him drive both SUVs for a fair comparison.

He did much better after a few passes. He’s used to driving a 4wd Honda Pilot and this is his first time driving the gx on a loose incline.
I did drove the gx on one of the obstacle and the xterra is definitely easier to throttle control.

Always amazed at the ABLS in my Xterra, can keep going in two wheel drive when alot of others have to switch into 4x4. And when I do engage 4x4 im amazed even more, even without lockers ! After owning 6 different Jeeps and two TRDs Im happy with the Xterra.

Yup, ABLS works. When I first got my Nissan, I didn’t even know about it. There’s no switch or even a light indicator for it, but definitely could feel it working.

Did the Nissan Xterra ever use the factory rear lockers? Or did it not need them?

    • @xbenture

Gotta use 4 low on that Lexus to really take advantage of this type of terrain. That v8 really makes it want to take off with any throttle input.

Was the center dif locked on the lexus? Mechanically it seems that would be a more fair comparison since the xterra would be center locked as soon as it is in 4x4 while the lexus is all time 4x4 with center dif being open. Seems the nissan is quicker to react to slipping and engage the traction aid.
