It should work. These are the licensed visa sponsor employers in the UK. As for my dentist, they sent me an email saying they received 1600 applications within 24hrs which made them first consider UK applicants only.

Not sponsoring now doesn't mean they don't sponsor. They have probably used up there sponsorship codes and are either in process of paying for others or may be waiting for next year. Just keep checking.

Sometimes it takes a bit of work as it's difficult to know what exactly the employer is looking for. Don't lose hope. Some have got after making up to 300 applications. I'm not saying you need to make that many as some have got from the first or second application.
