You are the man. Every other farmer would be blaming the weather and every other thing. Good on you for spotting the problem and owning it. I assume you are dividing the paddock with electric fence. Have you seen the programmable fence opener that is spring loaded to drop the fence so your cows go into the next pen? Might be a time saver for you.

Jay, will always watch your videos precisely becauseof your humility and the elaboration of your mistakes. Thanks for all you do!

Regenag is like a bullish market. It will go up, but just not in a straight line. Good for you for seeing as a learning experience. It will pay itself in the next 30 years. Thanks for the example you are setting. 💪

This is a good outlook, have found the exact same. Couldn't put it better.

My experience is also that the weather plays a big role in how much compaction you get. But also how much residue or grasses there are in the cover crop mix.

Jay I remember when I first started following you. You made the comment you were dislexic and didn’t make a great speaker. After just a few videos I saw you relax and your passion shined through. I think you do a great job and try so hard to cover both sides of the equation. Keep spreading the word and being the great steward you are. I think of the story when you were trying to get your dad engaged with the concept and he said you go ahead and I’ll see if it works. Makes me smile.

If you make another video about the compaction from rotational graizing, please detail out your stocking rates for the 1 week paddock verses the 2 week one. I've been trying to learn how many cows is too many for a set amount of time. I know there is not 1 answer for all circumstances but it is all good info! Thanks for sharing!

Where do you live Crazy Hunter?

Also wondering about the size of the cattle grazing. Does their individual weight affect the amount of compaction?

Thank you for your videos, much appreciated.
    1) Please could you do one on Potasium. All the stuff I have researched talks about Phosphate and Nitrogen. Does the better microboal activity also supply potassium to the plants.
    2) Your feilds look very dry, Do they overwinter like that and if so how does the biology survive?
    Best regards

Jay is it possible the yield loss is due to less residue on the surface rather than compaction? Did you use a penetrometer to confirm thst compaction was really the culprit? I didn't figure you had enough soil moisture to make compaction? Keep up the good work!

      Thanks
I need to buy a penetrated
We did lose residue because the cattle over grazed it .

@youngredangus6041 you do need a penetromitor! That's Regen 101. I've found once I got to 4% org matter I can get in 3+ feet deep under 100PSI, the penotrometer was one of the main tools that lead me to regen and cover crops almost 20 yrs ago. Comparing 3 foot tall rye cover crop is strip till penetromitor on year 1 was eye opening and it's gotten better since. I've found biologically active soil needs one simple thing we've been starving it of.... CARBON or organic matter!

    Good update. Thanks.
    Brings up a question.
The soil health principles are one thing, but they are not soil.
For example, a cover plant is a plant, but it is not soil. What must soil itself have to be considered "Healthy".

do you know if it was the compaction, or do you think it could have been from less residue, (less armor)? Maybe I missed that in the video. Keep up the great work!

    Jay,
I truly appreciate😂 your channel! Your giving me confidence to diversify some funds.
Been thinking about selling a major apartment complex that was a huge headache during Covid to buy a few high elevation Alfalfa farms in Northern California with an abundance of water for the pivots.
Curious if you applied Soil Works GCR Calcium to that pivot?
Can I reach out to you sometime? How?
    Thanks, Greg

What is your plan to scaling up your regenerative ag experiments to your entire farm? We are experimenting with it as well and my dad and I disagree in the next steps after a successful crop. He thinks it is too risky to eventually manage the entire farm with regenerative practices. He thinks the yields will not be consistent enough and we risk losing too much money. What are your thoughts?

    More questions..
How long can one keep Johnson Su compost in the bin before fungi and bacteria start to die off.
Also how long can one keep the compost tea in a tank before it looses its micro organisms
    Regards

What's your average weight per head? You might consider downsizing the size of animal to minimize compaction or pugging up fields. Did you graze them on the corn residue in wet field conditions?
