  • Two night camp and tramp into the Cobb. We cook some very tasty back packing meals and survive the cold conditions. Lots of coffee and a some good adventuring.

You took beer instead of water!? Legends!!
    - That beer makes me thirsty, the nacho's make me hungry (common theme), but that wind makes me frozen!! Gutsy determination to have a winter picnic. Keep up the good work!

So good to watch! Excellent story with plenty of details of gears food etc. I think we'll get up to those top tarns for summer camp, but will stick with warmer spots near tent camp etc for winter trips with Steph. Victoria looked bit chilled like a regularly topped up hot water bottle or nalgene in the jacket/bag would be the ticket. Amazing how that windy cloudy westerly campfire night changed to icy by morning.

Camping up above the lake would be amazing. Definitely will be heading back there again. It took awhile for us to get warm the second night when we got into our bags. Always amazed at how the goose down can keep you warm with ice all around.

Great to see the Cobb again spent a lot of time hunting there in the eightys, those chairs look a lot more comfortable than trying to lay down on wet tussock I might invest in one.

Hi Abel and Victoria just a tip you can get a heater Called buddy heater you want the one that heats the air you need also a carbon monoxide sensor to use in tent and you need air in tent to move the heat and don’t feel light head

    Hey Abel and Victoria.
Really enjoyed this video guys, what a great trip! Beautiful scenery.
I actually broke down in the Cobb valley last year haha, had to get towed out to Takaka!
As I was watching I thought your food supplies looks familiar until I realized I had seen you post them on the tramping nz fb page! You guys sure know how to eat well in the bush!
    Keep it up guys.
    Cheers

Hey thanks was a great trip. Lol shit it’s a pretty long drive in there road can get pretty rough at times. Lots of people seemed to be offended by the food on the tramping page lol pretty funny really.
Really enjoyed your TA journey 👍

Hmmmm... not sure what my forefathers and their sheep would make of you two youngsters, with all the hi-tech gear and de-hi food.
Nor the Forest Service rangers like old Max Polglaze, now in his 80s. I first met him when we opened the Tent Camp in 2014. My wife and I christened the two mattresses.
Or, the Friends of Cobb who are trying to save the endangered rock wren and kea up there.

Hey Ray. Would you like to see some old school gear used? lol my mother and father have a bunch of old stuff I could borrow. By the way I didn’t consume any dehydrated food this time gone off it lately.
I think any true enthusiast of the area that has a love for the native bush and its inhabitants would be thrilled to see others enjoying it. I speak with friends of Cobb several times. Great people I’m considering joining them. I hope that these videos can inspire some other younger people to get into tramping and camping and grow an appreciation for these amazing places. Wouldn’t it be sad if the appreciation for the Cobb die off with the older generations.

Is modern gear frowned upon? Is that a new trend or something? Most of us appreciate people getting outdoors and taking the time to film, edit and post this content for free🤷

@@AbelandVictoria Reminds me of the cultural attitude pervasive in nzers alluded to in point seven of "8 things I wish I knew before doing the araroa" vid by Move with Murph. I have done a fair bit in the hills over the past 35yrs, but am blown away by what youth are achieving now, in part due to modern gear, and lack of curmudgeonlyness.
