As a greek i can say that Alexander might have been from North Macedonia, but his mother and father were from legendary GREEK heroes and he spoke greek wich was taught to him by Aristotelis. He did, and funnily enough, it wasn't his greatest weapon. It's purpose was only to pin down the enemy, as his hypaspists and companion cavalry smashed into them - Hammer and Anvil.

The perisan rulers themselves said the Indians ( the indus region ) had the most population and were the richest and provided 32% of the total taxes of all the achaemenid empire.
And here's a funfact the indus region was not even the most populous and richest in the subcontinent. It was the Ganges region which was just some miles away from the Persian territory of indus.
Note this region had some 10-15 small kingdoms not even a single giant empire.
The Persians themselves avoided a direct confrontation with even a single one of these small kingdoms but at the same time they had no problem in invading greeks. There must've been some reason right ?

Persia and india were two different things. Ask the Persians themselves why they didn't conquer india despite the fact that it was mentioned by Persian kings that the region of Indus had their most of the population were richer than any one else and also payed the most taxes to govt. If you look at data Indians payed 32% of the total taxes to the govt. And the fun fact is that it was only the small region of Indus and it was not even the most wealthiest of the subcontinent. The most wealthiest was the Ganges region which alexander himself decided not to invade. The Persians themselves avoided a direct confrontation with the small kingdoms of this region because the population and resources in this region were so high that even a small kingdom would be able to challenge the mighty persian empire.
Meanwhile the nandas had whole norther india under their control and to their standards kingdom of porus was an 'insignificant' kingdom the same kingdom who supposedly gave alexander much trouble to be added into his ' one of the most difficult and bloodiest battles' gallery .

Side note : Nandas didn't collapsed due to political instability. The collapsed because a man named kautlya who was a brilliant man in politics , war etc took control of some regions in North western India and along with chandragupta maurya devised a strategy to make the nandas fall.
Meanwhile it is also stated that they were defeated by nandas many times and then succeeded later and that too only because the last nanda emperor was a cruel one and the public didn't supported him
