ive been working at a walmart since almost the beginning of the pandemic and ive watched prices slowly rise over time, alot of our products cost 20 to 50% more than they used to and it bothers me that the cheap stuff i used to buy i now have to think twice about because theyre not cheap anymore, i can only imagine how hard it could be for someone whos struggling to support themselves

My primary concern is how to grow my reserve of $300k which has been sitting duck since forever with zero to no gains, sure I know the risks of short term gains are much greater but if well managed one'd make a killing, am I wrong?

I’ve been on both end of the spectrum, I was lnvesting on my own for about 3years, did my own study and analysis before actually buying, things became rather difficult after the pandemic which was right about when I reached out to a portfoIio-advisor for guidance, It’s been over 2 years and I’ve scaled up a stagnant reserve of $280K to $700k in just about 24months.

Here's the video summary if you don't want to watch extra fluff:
Why is China in a deflationary period:
    - People outside of China aren't buying from China especially after 3 years of pandemic lockdowns shut down production plants and the world found other places to buy.
    - People inside of China aren't buying from China because many lost their jobs or are worried about losing their jobs.
    Why you should be worried:
    - A recession in China would cause a recession for the rest of the world.
    How:
    - Chinese businesses may cut prices to stimulate sales leading to lower revenue and layoffs.
    - People in China would be even more disincentivized to consume their goods.
    - Less spending would mean less revenue for local companies leading to more layoffs and the cycle could continue until a severe recession occurs.
What has China done to help with the issue:
    - The Chinese government has already cut interest rates to help stimulate lending and business growth.
    What else can they do:
    - More stimulus for businesses (more rate cuts)
    - More stimulus for people (provide relief funds for laid off workers similar to other industrialized nations during lockdowns)

what i got from this video is China is facing deflation because the demand of their exports decreased in pandemic and prices fell instead of rising because people were prohibitive to consume and they saw the entrenching deflation and perceived that we will buy this later when prices will fall more, also companies were laying off workers because they had less revenue which counter affected the income of households

Deflation is an indication that your customers are not buying - which merchant would otherwise willingly lower their prices if they were not forced to do so? At the macro level this in turn reduces the rate at which cash circulates in the economy, thereby decreasing revenue and profits, and causes a downward pressure on incomes. Lowered income forces you to lower spending, and the vicious cycle goes on.

Lol, so China should just print money like the west and get huge inflation? It is actually a good thing that food gets cheaper in china, you can't tell me that the Chinese eat less. In China's case it probably means that there is a bigger production and they will have a higher disposable income to spend on other things than basic foodstuff.

When inflation is out of control, people complain. When prices of goods are falling, why are people complaining? To control inflation, according to those experts or economists, increase the interest rate. If people are not spending and then the economy suffers. Now they say we are heading to deflation. Are they suggesting the interest rate should be lower and encourage people to spend more? The problem is the United States will have to keep its interest rate high to deal with its huge deficit. The rest of the world has no choice but to follow suit or risk capital flight. So, experts tell us what to do, or you don't even know what to do yourself.

Why is the world worrying about China and not about the themselves, most countries, especially the USA and G7 are still trying to control their inflation, while China is worried about falling prices, why the west or even ASEAN can’t buy cheap imports from China, I don’t see our imports from China dropping in prices, we should be worried that China will reduce their spending on imports, especially from the west and ASEAN

  • @albertteng1191

Deflation will only harm countries whose economy is slowing down significantly or countries who depends on china for their export. But for countries on the rapid rise, lower chinese prices is a great bonanza, meaning business who imports product from china can expect bigger sales, larger profit in their home country. I mean its no secret, chinese products have become so expensive in the last few years, price is almost uncompetitive. The reason why business still imports from china is bcoz, its easy to import products there bcoz of the infrastructure both soft and hard infra compared to other nation. But still since price is increasing expensive, business are now starting to look elsewhere to source their products
