Out of ALL of the music icons, my absolute favorite of all time is Brian Jones. I have been on this planet for a looong time and have had the pleasure of listening to and even meeting some music luminaries, but Brian remains at the top of my list. The man was a musical genius. Guitar, sitar, harpsichord, dulcimer, piano, classical harp, xylophone,... He could master any instrument it seems. The sad part is that he never had the opportunity to truly show the world his talent. True he had his demons, but all the great ones did, Van Gogh, Beethoven, Edgar Allan Poe,..... The world is a far emptier place without them, especially Brian. Rest in peace Brian, the world truly misses you good sir.

But I suppose such a music master as yourself realizes that their potential had reached it's pinnacle and they were in the twilight of their musical careers. The early Stones music had a mix of renaissance, rock and blues unlike any other band of the british invasion era. This was indicative of Brian's creativity and talent. 1963 through 1970 were the heart and soul of the band's claim to fame. They continued their trek through time, but it was never as original. They became somewhat generic in their approach to music, which undoubtedly led to commercial success, but the depth of the music suffered. I firmly believe that without Brian, they would never have gone far. He was the founding father of the Stones and his talent was what launched them into the collective minds of the world. I've said it before and I will say it time and again,......... No Jones,... No Stones Absolutely LOVE the early days of The Rolling Stones and still do. By the time the Stones started to write their own (great) material, they really were becoming themselves. The same goes for the Who and The Kinks. Once you´ve achieved that AND being successful, you´re a leader. The punks were followers in my opinion, apart from Iggy Pop and the Pistols. Restricted to (young) age, attitude, posing and a concept of anger and amateurism.
Well, I have to believe you...I was about 4 at the time :) ,and far away from where it happened. Talking of my own youth, the live bands I adored most never made it big and are now unknown to a wider public.

So, it's not just me. I feel like I'm grieving his death all over again like I was there in 1969. Listening through all his best contributions and seeing how unhappy he is in many live performances (plus looking very meek and unwell) is very upsetting and painful emotionally.

Ahh...this is when Brian was still on top. I think "Aftermath" represents his best and most inspired work with The Rolling Stones. That masterpiece would not have been as good if it wasn't for his brilliant instrumental contributions (sitar, dulcimer, marimba ...). It's clear that Mick and Keith wrote the songs but Brian perfected them here. And also in the underrated "Between The Buttons".
Not clear they wrote pre 69 songs. Studio teams did much. They also stole from Brian and never gave him any credit. They probably wrote all the crap that was done from 69 on.

Never thought they did this live, what a nice surprise. Thank you. The Stones most definitely benefited from Brian's ears, imagination and knack with exotic instruments, but it was also the time when they were chasing the Beatles and it inspired a higher level of songwriting from Richards and Jagger. Once the Beatles and Brian were gone, the Stones morphed into a sort of a glorified roadside dive sort of band (with the exception of an occasional Richards ballad like "Angie") which still thrived with the addition of the brilliant blues guitarist Mick Taylor. After his exit they were noticeably lessened and thus hired a bunch of sidemen and women to pad the act and developed a high tech stage show and evolved or devolved, depending on your viewpoint, into the oldies arena act they remain today.
sad news that Charlie pass away , he will be miss but the music will go on for ever long after i have gone , have seen the TRS a good few times over the years , but will all ways remember the one time at the old Wembley stadium ,at the end of the concert Mick and the boys got behind Charlie and push him to the front or the stage and said he was to old to get up :(

Yeah, Keef’s playing here is beautiful! It meshes so freaking well with Brian’s dulcimer.
Hard to pinpoint his influence, but I just know that after Brian they were still great but there was a weirdness missing

Ahh...this is when Brian was still on top. I think "Aftermath" represents his best and most inspired work with The Rolling Stones.
That masterpiece would not have been as good if it wasn't for his brilliant instrumental contributions (sitar, dulcimer, marimba ...). It's clear that Mick and Keith wrote the songs but Brian perfected them here. And also in the underrated "Between The Buttons".

Not clear they wrote pre 69 songs. Studio teams did much. They also stole from Brian and never gave him any credit. They probably wrote all the crap that was done from 69 on.
@@mullerk2 what you state is probably true. But from 69 on (at least until 81 - forget Emotional Rescue) they wrote stuff very far from being crap. 68 to 74 the stones were the greatest rock band of all time...
i have to admit, "Between the Buttons" is probably the best Stònes album, there are others, but, The Best, jùs såyîn ¡😎🥚😎¡

Never thought they did this live, what a nice surprise. Thank you. The Stones most definitely benefited from Brian's ears, imagination and knack with exotic instruments, but it was also the time when they were chasing the Beatles and it inspired a higher level of songwriting from Richards and Jagger. Once the Beatles and Brian were gone, the Stones morphed into a sort of a glorified roadside dive sort of band (with the exception of an occasional Richards ballad like "Angie") which still thrived with the addition of the brilliant blues guitarist Mick Taylor. After his exit they were noticeably lessened and thus hired a bunch of sidemen and women to pad the act and developed a high tech stage show and evolved or devolved, depending on your viewpoint, into the oldies arena act they remain today.
Lady Jane was played live on the Stones "Got Live If You Want It." Great version there also.

sad news that Charlie pass away , he will be miss but the music will go on for ever long after i have gone , have seen the TRS a good few times over the years , but will all ways remember the one time at the old Wembley stadium ,at the end of the concert Mick and the boys got behind Charlie and push him to the front or the stage and said he was to old to get up :(
