That little ping whenever DMC5 Vergil sheaths the Yamato is just so much more satisfying than DmC’s sheath. It’s like the ping of an M1 Garand after the last round.
Regardless of preference, I adore how both versions are hyper stylized. DmC helmbreaker sheathing the sword behind his back and DmC5 Rapid Slash with the more animated front sheathing shows off both their personalities.
I will always love original DMC over the reboot, but the concept of Doppelganger is just really cool, and I also like how in the DmC Vergil boss, his clothes and skin changed to a more blue looking color, I wish they had something similar to that with DMC5 Vergil where his visible aura would be more blue looking whenever he activated doppelganger, but this still cool

In the Dmc they were supposed to be young men, whereas Dmc 5, Dante and Vergil are a bit older. I've taken DmC 5 as a nice matured experienced Vergil, as although many people were not fans of DmC, it was still fun to play and it just looks like a younger vergil who hasn't perfected his technique yet.

In DmC, what they were shooting for was the youngest Dante, and he's a bout a year or two younger than his DMC3 incarnation (that incarnation is 19, if most sources are to be believed, some say 17 but this is wrong. The manga of 3 places Dante at 18 [10 years after Eva's death, which occurred when they were 8] and DMC3: Dante's Awakening takes place a year after the manga). The Director of the games also confirmed this: when he said "Nero in DMC4 was 19, the same age as Dante was in DMC3." DmC's Dante is around 17-18 years old, due to them wanting this to predate all other material as a prequel/reboot, it's more than likely he's 17 as it would've taken place before the DMC manga, had public outcry not scrubbed it out of canonicity before the game launched. A lot try to use his age as older due to him being able to get into nightclubs and drinking, yet leave out that these things are run in a fictional city dominated and run by demons essentially... our age limits in our society aren't the same as in the game, obviously. And, that being said, underage kids get into strip clubs and other joints they shouldn't be able to on the regular in some places, the US included. Dante's age is simply 17 in the game (16-17 by what the game said, but if we assume they kept the 10 year post-Eva death thing as a start, he'd be 17, otherwise it'd be 9 years since and he'd be 16).
I like how in DmC Vergil's sword has the length of a katana, perfect for his iaido sword style. While in the og DMC Vergil's sword looked more like a Tachi or Nodachi sword because of how long it is. You can see his sword "phase" into his scabbard as he sheathes it.
Having played both the titles, it's really cool to see some of the aspects from the reboot being utilised in DMC5. But DmC vergil is pretty tough to play with as compared to the OG vergil. While the reboot Dante and has some really neat weapons for his demonic abilities, and so does OG Vergil, DmC Vergil has to solely rely on the yamato with it's heavy attacks in his demonic mode, which makes things quite challenging. But the result of striking that balance between light and fast attacks and heavy attacks is equally rewarding. It also a clever use of the idea of Vergil only using yamato to dish out damage.
That's primarily due to the sheer difference in how the two titles handle weapons - specifically, DmC's angelic and demonic modes are designed to seamlessly blend with the combos, so no matter how much you try to reconfigure the controls, DmC's gameplay will always differ. It's all super ymmv. All said and done though, both DmC and DMC5 are fucking excellent for the same reasons, and for different reasons. It's pretty annoying seeing DMC "fans" dismiss DmC over superficial shit.
Doppelganger: The Doppelganger itself looks good for both, but the summoning animation of DMC 5 makes it better. Air Trick: The "poof" effect of DMC 5 looks and feels better Summoned Swords: The DmC ones feel thicker, but the DMC 5 ones feel faster. It's a draw for me. Spiral Swords: The DmC ones look like they're a 2D draw. DMC 5 wins. Blistering Swords: The DMC 5 ones are faster and feel more satisfying. Storm Swords: In terms of aspect, it's the same talk of the Spiral Swords. I like the visual and uditive effects of the enemy impact in DmC but I like how the actual impact feels like in DMC 5. First/Second Yamato Combo: What I like of the DmC ones: The visual effects and how fast they feel. What I like of the DMC 5 ones: How strong they feel and the sheath effect. I think it's another draw. Third Yamato Combo: That final hit from DMC 5 Vergil 👌. Just amazing. But I don't think these two combos can be really compared. Upper Slash/Rising Upper Slash: Original Vergil's one feels stronger and more confidant. Also WTF was that moan from DmC Vergil? First/Second Aerial Rave: Not bad for the two Vergils, in both combos. But DMC 5's sheath gives it a little advantage. Rapid Slash: DmC may have the colored waves, but DMC 5 has the speed and the better sheath Rising Star: Pretty good for both, but I'm still not a big fan of DmC Vergil's moans. Judgement Cut (Normal/Perfect/Aerial): Both are good in every form, but DMC 5's JC is way better. I like how the original Vergil's Yamato moves so fast that it doesn't even look like it is moving that much, the aspect of the distortion area itself, and how it feels satisfying gameplay-wise Helm Breaker/Aerial Cleave: Not that much to say, both are fine, and I doubt that I need to talk about the sheath. Kind the same discourse of the Aerial Rave. Starfall: I like the sound effect and the red glow of DmC, but I also like how tough the impact feels in DMC 5
DMC5 Boss Vergil actually has faster Yamato combo finishers, to compensate for the slower scabbard swings. Also, SPIKE RICKEY did not display DMC5 Vergil at full concentration, so the effects on some attacks, like Rapid Slash, weren't properly compared. Yet again, effects-wise, Boss Vergil still has better effects.
The animations for helm breaker is the the same as all the other helm breaker, however Aerial cleave looks and feels different. I’ve noticed that there is a small hit box before OG Vergil unsheathes before hitting the ground that keeps the enemy suspended in mid air for a few split seconds. Even when you JC before he unsheathes, it counts as a hit.
@@spacecatghostboi776 yeah, that hitbox is there since aerial cleave has a delay in the air, compare to the usual helm breaker that goes immediately. Obviously for gameplay's sake, player Vergil's delay is shorter than boss Vergil.
To be fair DmC reboot is an 7+ year's old game by now, the effects and graphics differences are excused. But there is something more than just graphics though. OG vergil's yamato animations has the proper feel the typical "samurai guy" you would expect. The fast and precise cutting animations, the edgy but proper katana style sheathing, they all reflects "skilled katana user" better than reboot Vergil's animation. By the way though reboot's summon swords is actually more similar to DMC3 than 5's, both movement speed and size wise.

I'm amazed by the lack of complete and utter hatred for DmC in commet section. It's refreshing. I enjoyed DmC for what it was, but I honestly never looked at it as the same universe as DMC. It just differed too much in story, characters... Kinda in setting as well. But I still really enjoyed the gameplay. I loved Angel weapons for Dante, wish we had something like them, especially Osiris, in og. I'm also more of a keyboard+mouse player and DmC had the best support for that, hands down

I played DmC and completed all the achievements of it because its gameplay was fun. However, its story and characters were not good. Does that mean that I hate DmC? Not really. Because if I hated DmC, I would've never completed all the achievements of DmC. And the reason I completed all of the achievements of DmC is because like I said, its gameplay was fun.

The way DMC 5 Vergil moves feels refined and seasoned, where DmC Vergil seems ready to jump in with bravado, i like to think it's a fun comparison of how a young determined Vergil is like as a fighter vs a wiser seasoned fighter that an older Vergil is with no wasted movements and more impacts behind the swings

I don't like the summoned sword teleport in 4, 5 and DmC. In 5 , he sometimes would just keep shooting blades and won't teleport. It was best in 3. Also the trick down input sucks in 5.
You can only teleport to targets that have swords in them. Pressing B or O will instantly teleport you to the target if there is one or shoot a sword and then teleport if there are none. While teleport doesn't have range limit, blades do. You are simply be too far away from the enemy for swords to connect
3:25 DmC Judgement Cut: Good and stylish judgment cut. The effects (to me) sorta make it look like an attack from an attack from a holy knight/Paladin in an RPG, nonetheless still cool DMC5 Vergil: Simple is best, and DMC5 proves it with it's very fast animation and stellar effects. Attack and special effects are Vergil's and Vergil's alone, you see anyone even remotely doing an attack slightly similar to this, you will just say "oh it's Vergil's JC." DmC: Holy Light RPG paladin DMC5: Demigod slices through reality so fast that a sorta small mini-black hole appears where he's targeting, yet takes one quick microsecond for it to get there (probably on purpose so Vergil can show them the *despair* of even thinking fighting against him).
I actually really enjoyed DmC for what it is (and apart from the infamous Trilby hat, I don’t even hate its take on Vergil’s story and character design), but the sound design of Vergil’s attacks in DmC were lackluster. They slashes sounded so weak and mushy to me.
I have to admit, the gameplay was really fun and I enjoyed in that time, but the story and personalities of the characters are... Really bad, even the story is really bad.. but the gameplay was awesome!
@@hectormexi9904 I haven't played DMC1 and 2, but I don't really see how the stories of 3, 4, or 5 are all that better than what DmC has. 3 and 4 are basically "try and reach the [antagonist] in a straight line with obstacles in the way". The antagonist may change as you progress. 5 is also fundamentally the same, but it's structured/presented better. DmC is almost the same, except that instead of a "straight line with obstacles" said obstacles are to the side and you are given a(n acceptable) reason to go after them. Personalities? I dunno man. I'd say that aside from 5, the characters in the OG series don't have much of a personality either - "sassy badass" describes both Dante and Nero, "silent badass" describes Vergil.

Somethings I noticed in some moves. Summoned swords are more like the ones in DMC3 for DmC’s Vergil. The Air Trick is higher than DMC5’s, and Spiral swords is also comparable to the DMC3 version. DmC Vergil seems to just be heavier. However, some of the movements seem more clean than DMC5’s Vergil, while DMC5’s end product (sheathing the blade) is much more satisfying. DmC’s Vergil has really weird Aerial Attacks, and work super slow, Aerial Rave being super trippy. DmC Vergil’s Judgement Cut has an over-dramatic effect, possibly making it easy to throw off players.
Both Games are quite Awesome but I honestly find it a bit weird to compare a game that came out in 2013 vs a game that came out in 2019 that's a Six year gap filled with improved performance quality and graphics of Dmc5 comparing the both to me just Seems like Comparing the strength and Experience of a teenager to that of a full grown Adult Kinda weird don't ya think lol
"gameplay was good but story and characters terrible" DmC actually shown from the start of the game what happened to dants's family, and eva/sparda fate and has a good linear progression until the end of the game. It didn't leave plot holes. Was it a simple story? yes, but OG DMC is complex? OG DMC never got praise for the plot, which has always been one of the weakest point. An exemple of important problem was sparda's fate. They just say sparda disappeared and ther's a chronological hole due to the fact sparda sealed his power 3000 years before dmc3 but still lived about 3000 (as a human?) and disappeared after giving birth to the twins, never explaining WHY. DMC5 itself just followed DmC plot: - it shows to you dante's house - Shown Eva's last moment; - Shows why Vergil is jealous of dante (a thing which never existed in the OG DMC, but was explained in the reboot). - it shows corrupted vergil for the first time in OG DMC history... but sti after a fuck*ng reboot, who did it before with a DLC with an actual immersion in Vergil character. About characters, I can accept OG characters being more original (and better overall). Still, are you forgetting something about their development? - Dante's personality changes too much every game, being totally inconsistent. - Vergil becoming a retarded kid who behave as vegeta in dmc5 while in dmc3 never spoke about being jealous or wanting to be superior to dante. He seek power just to protect, not because "I want to be the best". It's like dmc5's one were DmC's Vergil but without coherence in development. - Lady and Trish being over sexualized in DMC4/5 while DmC treats Kat with way more respect and made Donte more mature. The fangirling against DmC is so sickening... Going as far as to say DMC4 has better graphics than DmC just because of the hate is just stupid. Yeah, I get why you hate the game. Maybe if it wasn't called DmC it would have stood out far better in terms of popularity and sales, but even the reboot concept was good. Not awesome, much less perfect, but good enough. Heck, let's say it wasn't good, but to not give credit where is due is just childish

I liked it's take on the combat. BUT I always quit right at the moment they introduce blue and red enemies. Specially since I'm playing on PC and we don't have definitive edition where "wrong" attacks don't bounce off anymore.
I am a fan of the dmc series and I thought I played all the devil may cry games. Turns out there is a game that is called just “dmc” and it wasn’t in the HD collection. I’ve seen it before but i just couldn’t take notice of it. Mostly cuz after dmc 3 and 4 I didn’t notice Dante on the cover pictures. I thought it was some spinoff. Fuck me bro.
I actually preferred the reboot’s story. For one, it was much simpler and more explained. The whole “Sparda suddenly disappeared for no reason” thing of the original series was always stupid to me.
Fandom of the original DMC is just blind. Story has never been a strong point in DMC games, but in their mind it is, probably because of characters (which are actually good). They forgot DmC's story explained EVERYTHING before DMC5 came out explaining the same thing (like the "return to home" level, Eva's happearing in flashbacks etc). Itsuno originally wanted to make DmC 2, but couldn't without Ninja Theory. On the bright side, DMC5 integrated a lot of stuff from DmC, which is some of the best from both worlds.
Gotta say, despite all the hate DmC got, it's actually has kinda good gameplay. I myself don't like DmC (not hate, just don't like) but i remember i had my fun playing this game though i agree the game is far too easy than the OG (you basically can get SSS with just button mashing) but i think that's the point of the reboot, they want to make the gameplay simpler than the OG. Also i want to say one thing i realize what i like from Vergil reboot after watch the video, it's the judgement cut. I still prefer the OG JC since the idea of JC is Vergil slacing through space so fast that you can't even see he unseathing the Yamato, but what make me interested in DmC JC? It feels like whole new moveset (even thr aerial JC basically new moveset), it feels like Vergil slash Yamato so powerful that make the air blow and cut the enemy. If i had to giving my score for DmC then it's 4/10 for me, only saved by the gameplay.
After observing it in slow mo comparison, I finally find the reason why DmC slashing animation feels off, it's as if it lacks omph compared to DMC5, or DMC4, and even DMC3. It has no dynamic velocity. Every frames move at almost the same speed, no increasing nor decreasing, it feels monotonous. In DMC5 Vergil case, the reason they feel like more powerful is because there's a velocity dynamic, each move starts with slow movement, then he swing the sword faster, then return to slow, as if there's a brake. Plus he hold his sword more steady and smooth during that slow parts. DmC has more wiggles, it's as if he has tremors. The camera movement also play its part. 1. It deliberately delays its movement to adds more dynamic feels. The easiest thing to see this is in Rapid Slash, the camera falls behind trying to catch his movement. DmC also delays it a little bit, but not enough. 2. Vibration. The shake effect in Starfall and DT Yamato Combo are obvious, but it turns out there are a lot of small vibrations in many moves that we don't realize we take it for granted. It adds more omph to every moves. The animation team in the DMC really did a great job, not to mention the sound effect team. It's very hard to top it off.
this only shows the lack of talent and effort within ninja theory, even a fangame would have made everything better, from the story to the animations, DmC is no more than a rubbish cashgrab. Not even joking, it all looks and feels bad, a bizarre parody made by a soulless western studio.
DmC will always have a special but twisted place in my heart. It was my introduction into the series and my first game for the PS3. At the time I was too young to realise how bad of a character reboot Dante is. And that's also when everything changed. I bought the HD remaster of 1-3 and oh boy was I surprised how different the two are. Ever since then I'm for OG all the way. Though I do admit that I return to DmC every now and then for it's gameplay. By far the best aspect of the game. I like both animations. But also lean more towards 5. But I like about reboot, how limited you are when playing as Vergil. Especially before you get Doppelganger, connecting combos is actually challenging. At least for me. Though that's understandable, since I suck at these games, haha
I'm enjoying the "to be fair, DmC" which I agree with, matched instantly by "NOPE ITS TRASH" then the OG DMC fellows just word vomit until the DmC fans are like "OK. Your nostalgia is too thick" xD
How about a DMC 6 game where the characters in both DmC and DMC met and fought each other, it's like a war between two worlds(colliding each other) if they don't stop one another their world could perish
@@CosmicAmato Wrong. Vergil was always tough as a rival for Dante in both DMC3 and DMC1 (as Nelo Angelo). In the first battle in DMC3, Vergil killed Dante and so Dante got resurrected by Rebellion. In the first battle in DMC1, Nelo Angelo almost killed Dante but got distracted by Dante's amulet. And in DMC5, Dante and Vergil were shown as even in the ending. Whereas for Vergil in DmC, he was just beaten by Dante in their very first battle which makes him look completely pathetic compared to Vergil from DMC.

DmC vergil's "devil trigger" didn't make sense to me at all back when the dlc first came out. but it seems that dmc 5 took a few notes from DmC because Vergil in dmc 5 doesn't have devil trigger too (well atleast a "normal" one). he only has Sin Devil Trigger and when you activate doppelganger the meter that should've been for normal dt is the one being depleted
Dude Vergil in 5 will have his full visual effects at full motivation ie blue glass effects and longer trail and reach etc, this vid show Vergil at bare minimum bar
Lay Yard I just looked at them for the first time at max concentration since I skipped out on Vergil in 5 and it actually does make it look decent. Not as good as 4 in my opinion but it looks much better than what I was expecting. I do still wish that 5 was more flashy but they wanted it to be a bit more realistic so I understand why it isn’t.
Obviously Vergil is better in 5. But a lot of these newer attacks for Yamato came from DmC, being that it had the first playable Vergil in the series since dmc3. He feels pretty bad to play in DmC tbf, but this just goes to show that DmC did have a lot of good ideas that would be iterated on in better titles.
I feel like the reason why DMC5 Vergils moveset hits differently is because of how dynamic his body is. The DmC Vergil barely moves his body while attacking, and when he does its in an unrealistic to the attack way.

In DmC, what they were shooting for was the youngest Dante, and he's a bout a year or two younger than his DMC3 incarnation (that incarnation is 19, if most sources are to be believed, some say 17 but this is wrong. The manga of 3 places Dante at 18 [10 years after Eva's death, which occurred when they were 8] and DMC3: Dante's Awakening takes place a year after the manga). The Director of the games also confirmed this: when he said "Nero in DMC4 was 19, the same age as Dante was in DMC3."
DmC's Dante is around 17-18 years old, due to them wanting this to predate all other material as a prequel/reboot, it's more than likely he's 17 as it would've taken place before the DMC manga, had public outcry not scrubbed it out of canonicity before the game launched. A lot try to use his age as older due to him being able to get into nightclubs and drinking, yet leave out that these things are run in a fictional city dominated and run by demons essentially... our age limits in our society aren't the same as in the game, obviously. And, that being said, underage kids get into strip clubs and other joints they shouldn't be able to on the regular in some places, the US included. Dante's age is simply 17 in the game (16-17 by what the game said, but if we assume they kept the 10 year post-Eva death thing as a start, he'd be 17, otherwise it'd be 9 years since and he'd be 16).

I like how in DmC Vergil's sword has the length of a katana, perfect for his iaido sword style. While in the og DMC Vergil's sword looked more like a Tachi or Nodachi sword because of how long it is. You can see his sword "phase" into his scabbard as he sheathes it.
DmC Vergil also has some moves that phase through the scabbard

Having played both the titles, it's really cool to see some of the aspects from the reboot being utilised in DMC5. But DmC vergil is pretty tough to play with as compared to the OG vergil. While the reboot Dante and has some really neat weapons for his demonic abilities, and so does OG Vergil, DmC Vergil has to solely rely on the yamato with it's heavy attacks in his demonic mode, which makes things quite challenging. But the result of striking that balance between light and fast attacks and heavy attacks is equally rewarding. It also a clever use of the idea of Vergil only using yamato to dish out damage.
That's primarily due to the sheer difference in how the two titles handle weapons - specifically, DmC's angelic and demonic modes are designed to seamlessly blend with the combos, so no matter how much you try to reconfigure the controls, DmC's gameplay will always differ. It's all super ymmv.
All said and done though, both DmC and DMC5 are fucking excellent for the same reasons, and for different reasons. It's pretty annoying seeing DMC "fans" dismiss DmC over superficial shit.
Doppelganger: The Doppelganger itself looks good for both, but the summoning animation of DMC 5 makes it better.
Air Trick: The "poof" effect of DMC 5 looks and feels better
Summoned Swords: The DmC ones feel thicker, but the DMC 5 ones feel faster. It's a draw for me.
Spiral Swords: The DmC ones look like they're a 2D draw. DMC 5 wins.
Blistering Swords: The DMC 5 ones are faster and feel more satisfying.
Storm Swords: In terms of aspect, it's the same talk of the Spiral Swords. I like the visual and uditive effects of the enemy impact in DmC but I like how the actual impact feels like in DMC 5.
First/Second Yamato Combo: What I like of the DmC ones: The visual effects and how fast they feel.
What I like of the DMC 5 ones: How strong they feel and the sheath effect. I think it's another draw.
Third Yamato Combo: That final hit from DMC 5 Vergil 👌. Just amazing. But I don't think these two combos can be really compared.
Upper Slash/Rising Upper Slash: Original Vergil's one feels stronger and more confidant. Also WTF was that moan from DmC Vergil?
First/Second Aerial Rave: Not bad for the two Vergils, in both combos. But DMC 5's sheath gives it a little advantage.
Rapid Slash: DmC may have the colored waves, but DMC 5 has the speed and the better sheath
Rising Star: Pretty good for both, but I'm still not a big fan of DmC Vergil's moans.
Judgement Cut (Normal/Perfect/Aerial): Both are good in every form, but DMC 5's JC is way better. I like how the original Vergil's Yamato moves so fast that it doesn't even look like it is moving that much, the aspect of the distortion area itself, and how it feels satisfying gameplay-wise
Helm Breaker/Aerial Cleave: Not that much to say, both are fine, and I doubt that I need to talk about the sheath. Kind the same discourse of the Aerial Rave.
Starfall: I like the sound effect and the red glow of DmC, but I also like how tough the impact feels in DMC 5
DMC5 Boss Vergil actually has faster Yamato combo finishers, to compensate for the slower scabbard swings. Also, SPIKE RICKEY did not display DMC5 Vergil at full concentration, so the effects on some attacks, like Rapid Slash, weren't properly compared. Yet again, effects-wise, Boss Vergil still has better effects.
The animations for helm breaker is the the same as all the other helm breaker, however Aerial cleave looks and feels different. I’ve noticed that there is a small hit box before OG Vergil unsheathes before hitting the ground that keeps the enemy suspended in mid air for a few split seconds. Even when you JC before he unsheathes, it counts as a hit.
@@spacecatghostboi776 yeah, that hitbox is there since aerial cleave has a delay in the air, compare to the usual helm breaker that goes immediately. Obviously for gameplay's sake, player Vergil's delay is shorter than boss Vergil.

I think the moan from DmC Vergil is because he is injured during the majority of his dlc. So he feels pain whenever he does a dramatic movement.

To be fair DmC reboot is an 7+ year's old game by now, the effects and graphics differences are excused. But there is something more than just graphics though.
OG vergil's yamato animations has the proper feel the typical "samurai guy" you would expect.
The fast and precise cutting animations, the edgy but proper katana style sheathing, they all reflects "skilled katana user" better than reboot Vergil's animation.
By the way though reboot's summon swords is actually more similar to DMC3 than 5's, both movement speed and size wise.
Effects and graphics are not excused. Dmc 4 still holds up against dmc 5 and its 13 years old and yet still looks better than DmC lol

I'm not going to argue about "good game, bad game", but the simple fact that Ninja Theory actually made missions for Vergil (instead of just having you run through the original ones) puts the "Vergil DLC" miles ahead of anything Capcom did.

I enjoyed DmC for what it was, but I honestly never looked at it as the same universe as DMC. It just differed too much in story, characters... Kinda in setting as well. But I still really enjoyed the gameplay. I loved Angel weapons for Dante, wish we had something like them, especially Osiris, in og.
I'm also more of a keyboard+mouse player and DmC had the best support for that, hands down

I played DmC and completed all the achievements of it because its gameplay was fun. However, its story and characters were not good. Does that mean that I hate DmC? Not really. The way DMC 5 Vergil moves feels refined and seasoned, where DmC Vergil seems ready to jump in with bravado, i like to think it's a fun comparison of how a young determined Vergil is like as a fighter vs a wiser seasoned fighter that an older Vergil is with no wasted movements and more impacts behind the swings
DMC 3 Vergil actually have very snappy animations and it actually feel faster than 5

I don't like the summoned sword teleport in 4, 5 and DmC. In 5 , he sometimes would just keep shooting blades and won't teleport. It was best in 3. Also the trick down input sucks in 5.

You can only teleport to targets that have swords in them. Pressing B or O will instantly teleport you to the target if there is one or shoot a sword and then teleport if there are none. While teleport doesn't have range limit, blades do. You are simply be too far away from the enemy for swords to connect

DMC5 Vergil: Simple is best, and DMC5 proves it with it's very fast animation and stellar effects. Attack and special effects are Vergil's and Vergil's alone, you see anyone even remotely doing an attack slightly similar to this, you will just say "oh it's Vergil's JC."
DmC: Holy Light RPG paladin
DMC5: Demigod slices through reality so fast that a sorta small mini-black hole appears where he's targeting, yet takes one quick microsecond for it to get there (probably on purpose so Vergil can show them the *despair* of even thinking fighting against him).

I actually really enjoyed DmC for what it is (and apart from the infamous Trilby hat, I don’t even hate its take on Vergil’s story and character design), but the sound design of Vergil’s attacks in DmC were lackluster. They slashes sounded so weak and mushy to me.
I have to admit, the gameplay was really fun and I enjoyed in that time, but the story and personalities of the characters are... Really bad, even the story is really bad.. but the gameplay was awesome!

3 and 4 are basically "try and reach the [antagonist] in a straight line with obstacles in the way". The antagonist may change as you progress. 5 is also fundamentally the same, but it's structured/presented better.
DmC is almost the same, except that instead of a "straight line with obstacles" said obstacles are to the side and you are given a(n acceptable) reason to go after them.
Personalities? I dunno man. I'd say that aside from 5, the characters in the OG series don't have much of a personality either - "sassy badass" describes both Dante and Nero, "silent badass" describes Vergil.

Somethings I noticed in some moves. Summoned swords are more like the ones in DMC3 for DmC’s Vergil. The Air Trick is higher than DMC5’s, and Spiral swords is also comparable to the DMC3 version. DmC Vergil seems to just be heavier. However, some of the movements seem more clean than DMC5’s Vergil, while DMC5’s end product (sheathing the blade) is much more satisfying. DmC’s Vergil has really weird Aerial Attacks, and work super slow, Aerial Rave being super trippy. DmC Vergil’s Judgement Cut has an over-dramatic effect, possibly making it easy to throw off players.
I feel like it's unfair to compare games from completely different Eras like this- a DmC vs DMC4 comparison makes more sense

"gameplay was good but story and characters terrible"
DmC actually shown from the start of the game what happened to dants's family, and eva/sparda fate and has a good linear progression until the end of the game. It didn't leave plot holes. Was it a simple story? yes, but OG DMC is complex? OG DMC never got praise for the plot, which has always been one of the weakest point. An exemple of important problem was sparda's fate. They just say sparda disappeared and ther's a chronological hole due to the fact sparda sealed his power 3000 years before dmc3 but still lived about 3000 (as a human?) and disappeared after giving birth to the twins, never explaining WHY.
DMC5 itself just followed DmC plot:
- it shows to you dante's house
- Shown Eva's last moment;
- Shows why Vergil is jealous of dante (a thing which never existed in the OG DMC, but was explained in the reboot).
- it shows corrupted vergil for the first time in OG DMC history... but sti after a fuck*ng reboot, who did it before with a DLC with an actual immersion in Vergil character.
About characters, I can accept OG characters being more original (and better overall). Still, are you forgetting something about their development?
- Dante's personality changes too much every game, being totally inconsistent.
- Vergil becoming a retarded kid who behave as vegeta in dmc5 while in dmc3 never spoke about being jealous or wanting to be superior to dante. He seek power just to protect, not because "I want to be the best". It's like dmc5's one were DmC's Vergil but without coherence in development.
- Lady and Trish being over sexualized in DMC4/5 while DmC treats Kat with way more respect and made Donte more mature.

I liked it's take on the combat. BUT I always quit right at the moment they introduce blue and red enemies. Specially since I'm playing on PC and we don't have definitive edition where "wrong" attacks don't bounce off anymore.

I am a fan of the dmc series and I thought I played all the devil may cry games. Turns out there is a game that is called just “dmc” and it wasn’t in the HD collection. I’ve seen it before but i just couldn’t take notice of it. Mostly cuz after dmc 3 and 4 I didn’t notice Dante on the cover pictures. I thought it was some spinoff. Fuck me bro.

I actually preferred the reboot’s story. For one, it was much simpler and more explained. The whole “Sparda suddenly disappeared for no reason” thing of the original series was always stupid to me.
Fandom of the original DMC is just blind. Story has never been a strong point in DMC games, but in their mind it is, probably because of characters (which are actually good). They forgot DmC's story explained EVERYTHING before DMC5 came out explaining the same thing (like the "return to home" level, Eva's happearing in flashbacks etc). Gotta say, despite all the hate DmC got, it's actually has kinda good gameplay. I myself don't like DmC (not hate, just don't like) but i remember i had my fun playing this game though i agree the game is far too easy than the OG (you basically can get SSS with just button mashing) but i think that's the point of the reboot, they want to make the gameplay simpler than the OG.
Also i want to say one thing i realize what i like from Vergil reboot after watch the video, it's the judgement cut. I still prefer the OG JC since the idea of JC is Vergil slacing through space so fast that you can't even see he unseathing the Yamato, but what make me interested in DmC JC? It feels like whole new moveset (even thr aerial JC basically new moveset), it feels like Vergil slash Yamato so powerful that make the air blow and cut the enemy.

After observing it in slow mo comparison, I finally find the reason why DmC slashing animation feels off, it's as if it lacks omph compared to DMC5, or DMC4, and even DMC3.
It has no dynamic velocity. Every frames move at almost the same speed, no increasing nor decreasing, it feels monotonous.
In DMC5 Vergil case, the reason they feel like more powerful is because there's a velocity dynamic, each move starts with slow movement, then he swing the sword faster, then return to slow, as if there's a brake.
Plus he hold his sword more steady and smooth during that slow parts. DmC has more wiggles, it's as if he has tremors.
The camera movement also play its part.
1. It deliberately delays its movement to adds more dynamic feels. The easiest thing to see this is in Rapid Slash, the camera falls behind trying to catch his movement. DmC also delays it a little bit, but not enough.
2. Vibration. The shake effect in Starfall and DT Yamato Combo are obvious, but it turns out there are a lot of small vibrations in many moves that we don't realize we take it for granted. It adds more omph to every moves.
The animation team in the DMC really did a great job, not to mention the sound effect team.
It's very hard to top it off.
this only shows the lack of talent and effort within ninja theory, even a fangame would have made everything better, from the story to the animations, DmC is no more than a rubbish cashgrab.
Not even joking, it all looks and feels bad, a bizarre parody made by a soulless western studio.

DmC will always have a special but twisted place in my heart. It was my introduction into the series and my first game for the PS3. At the time I was too young to realise how bad of a character reboot Dante is. And that's also when everything changed.
I bought the HD remaster of 1-3 and oh boy was I surprised how different the two are. Ever since then I'm for OG all the way.
Though I do admit that I return to DmC every now and then for it's gameplay. By far the best aspect of the game. I like both animations. But also lean more towards 5.
But I like about reboot, how limited you are when playing as Vergil. Especially before you get Doppelganger, connecting combos is actually challenging. At least for me. Though that's understandable, since I suck at these games, haha

@@CosmicAmato Wrong. Vergil was always tough as a rival for Dante in both DMC3 and DMC1 (as Nelo Angelo). In the first battle in DMC3, Vergil killed Dante and so Dante got resurrected by Rebellion. In the first battle in DMC1, Nelo Angelo almost killed Dante but got distracted by Dante's amulet. And in DMC5, Dante and Vergil were shown as even in the ending. Whereas for Vergil in DmC, he was just beaten by Dante in their very first battle which makes him look completely pathetic compared to Vergil from DMC.

DmC vergil's "devil trigger" didn't make sense to me at all back when the dlc first came out. but it seems that dmc 5 took a few notes from DmC because Vergil in dmc 5 doesn't have devil trigger too (well atleast a "normal" one). he only has Sin Devil Trigger and when you activate doppelganger the meter that should've been for normal dt is the one being depleted

Dude Vergil in 5 will have his full visual effects at full motivation ie blue glass effects and longer trail and reach etc, this vid show Vergil at bare minimum bar
Lay Yard I just looked at them for the first time at max concentration since I skipped out on Vergil in 5 and it actually does make it look decent. Not as good as 4 in my opinion but it looks much better than what I was expecting. I do still wish that 5 was more flashy but they wanted it to be a bit more realistic so I understand why it isn’t.

Obviously Vergil is better in 5. But a lot of these newer attacks for Yamato came from DmC, being that it had the first playable Vergil in the series since dmc3. He feels pretty bad to play in DmC tbf, but this just goes to show that DmC did have a lot of good ideas that would be iterated on in better titles.
DMC4 has a playable Vergil. And Lady. And Trish.

I feel like the reason why DMC5 Vergils moveset hits differently is because of how dynamic his body is. The DmC Vergil barely moves his body while attacking, and when he does its in an unrealistic to the attack way.
DmC has better visual effects.

While I like Donte's gameplay and moveset animation I cant say the same with Vergin. Gameplay gives nausea, bad pacing, animation feels "stuck"
