I live in West Texas. 6 man teams are common around here. We have big 6A schools like Odessa Permian, and little six man schools all in the same area. The six man state championship is televised. The kids get to play where the cowboys play. 6 man is really fun to watch. Kids playing offense and defense and the whole town is there to watch. If the school doesn't have a band, fans just show up with drums and sit on the tailgate of their pickup truck.
Yeah boys! This actually looks fun and I want to ask my coach if we can do this in different groups. Maybe after the season ends we could have like one more practice and we just do this😂😂😂
I played 6 man football in Texas and won 2 state championships and I can confirm that if you miss a tackle on defense it’s basically a touchdown 😂 you have to be a very good open field tackler to play 6 man, and most teams don’t have a lot of players so the starters are playing both sides of the ball for basically the entire game, man those were fun days
In Balch Springs Texas, my wife taught band at Inspired Vision High School and their 6 man football team averaged 55 points a game. They won State Championship of their Division, beating their opponent 42-16, the temperature was around 27degrees
I've been REFERRING 6 MAN & 11 MAN FOOTBALL 46 YEARS IN TEXAS!! I EXTREMELY ENJOYED BOTH BIT 6 MAN IS A FAST/ EMOTIONAL GAME!!! KEEPS U ON YOUR TOES AND INTO THE GAME.!
Our crew alternates between 11-man on Fri. and 8-man on Sat. Love it. With 8-man the game opens up. The white hat can see through nearly everything. The game provides the local communities a mechanism to remain in touch with an institution they directly fund.
I won a 6-Man State Title in FL our RB and OL were Dominant! We also opened up in spread and passed a lot… after that season they moved to 11-man FHSAA and are a powerhouse in 1S football!
Six man football is exciting. I pastored in Gordon, Texas and the Canadian 8 man champions challenged us to a game. We waved the mercy rule and played 8 man one half and 6 man the other half. ESPN, Sports Illustrated showed up for the game. I announced the game and we beat Canada 92-24. We won the state title that year in the late 90s. Currently they are ranked #3.
Love it. 8-man emerged here in ILL 5 years ago and relieved the strain on small schools and dwindling turnouts. The game's a blast, its play is open-not as congested as with 22 players. When competitively matched, the games play like 11-man. Anything to keep the kids interested and active.
You gotta try out some 8 man football in alabaster alabama. That hits different. Last season the evangel Lightning went 13-0 and won the national championship for the fifth year in a row. Last week went up to Gatlinburg and won the black bear brawl. The opposing teams coach said they got a taste of alabama football and that there’s nothing like it
My team , Franklin Christian, is playing Evangel in October. It’s gonna be a battle because the Alabama teams we play are always tough ( My team is in TN)
Colorado too! I played 6 man football. Played at a 1a school hanover jr/sr highschool and it was very little competition for me at least. At the time a lot was going on so I couldn’t make every practice so I ended up being a backup, but every time I was put In I made sure to make a couple touchdowns.
I from NC and we played this all the time in PE and on Sunday when all of us boys got together. The school teams were played like normal football. Sometimes we would give the QB 8 seconds to throw the ball before we would try to tackle him.
I played 6 man football for my school in Alabama. We ended up breaking the record for most points scored in a game (94-45) and kept leading most of our opponents by at least 30 points every game
I played Texas 6-man football back in high school. Played both sides of the ball and all special teams. Once rushed for 5, threw for 2, and had 2 pick sixes for 9 total touchdowns in a game. Fun times, some kind of cardio shape you have to been in.
I played six man in high school. SE Colorado. You have to go 15 yards for a first down. The ball can't pass the line of scrimmage without either being thrown or there has to be a pitch or a handoff... Means the quarterback can't just take off and run. It's all about the ends on defense if they don't contain it's over. Oh and the center is eligible as a receiver as well.
we had enough students to fill an 11 man roster, most of us had to play both ways, but there were some schools near us that played 8 man football as they didnt have enough students to field an 11 man team. When we played 8 man teams we would play 11 man when we were on offense and 8 man when they were on offense. This was in rural southern Oregon.
man, backyard football with pads! Kids growing up in super small towns need something. I bet these kids are also 1st team wrestlers, soccer players, track and field, and basketball players. LOL! Living the best time of their athletic lives.
Not sure about other states but in Texas after the snap there must be an exchange before you run past the line of scrimmage. It appears Nebraska has the same rules thats why there is that toss. Most 6 man team the person who gets the snap is not the QB. Also the 45 point mercy rule is only after half time. 45-0 in first quarter and they still have another quarter to go.
Yo in Roswell nm gateway Christian school they play 6 man it’s really entertaining their JR high team and varsity/ high school team are crazy, you guys should try to pull to one of theirs games
For us guys who played HS and College and still had the burn there was always flag football or what we called rough touch in PA… it was 6 man football…our blocking back was a NCAA leading running back…and our best defensive backs and wide receivers were basketball players…mostly made up of ex college football players and basketball players…and small towns and townships had teams…80 yard fields…with paid refs and sponsors… this was back in the sixties and seventies…
You can also end the game at half time if your up by 45 or more points and there's no true positions you just play whatever and the qb can't run the ball the qb is also just the guy who takes the snap for instance our "qb" that throws lines up as the halfback and catches a pitch from the actual HB so the qb can have the option to run
The runnning back is acually the qb the tv takes the snap then the qb gets it because if it went directly to the qb they wouldn’t be able to pass the line of scrimmage
I was on Catalina island one random fall afternoon & to my surprise they play 6 man there as well. One of the best high school games I’ve been able to attend.
I’m not saying I could do it now but this was childhood for me and my neighborhood bros.. we did this in a foot and a half of snow every year. Good times
I think they play 6 man football in every state, Except maybe California but they still might. 6 or 8 man football is when a school doesn't have enough students to fill a roster with 11 players on the field. So if you live in a really small town your playing 6 or 8 man football. Fun fact Vander esche for the cowboys played 8 man football in highschool in Idaho.

i personally play 6 man. i’m a guard and a linebacker and i love it! shorter field it’s more and it’s more narrow. i play in texas tho and we lost a game 122-102 was the final score.
I got like 5 interceptions in one game of unofficial 6-man football with my friends and they’re pretty good, so I could probably score about 2 tds in regular 6-man football
My son is 12 and is tall. I guess Texas and Northern Eastern Western Southern of Montana will look at him as a future HOF left outside linebacker on a first ever 2-7-2
That is actually like crazy I could not imagine that. And I think I would score 3 touchdowns in a season of 6-man football
