The whole series just feels like Kojima got high watching an action movie and decided to make the silliest, most serious series out there to put cool ideas he heard in the first paragraph of wikipedia pages in among loads of political messaging.
Also, Liquid technically came first because they used him as a guinea pig to create a phenotype where every single one of the Dominant Genes would be expressed, thus creating Solid, and leaving Liquid with all the Recessive Genes as a result, but actually not because when Ocelot reports to Solidus he mentions that the inferior, A.K.A Solid, won, thus meaning that in actuality, Liquid was the Phenotype with exclusively Dominant Genes, and despite Solid being VERY much at a disadvantage, he still still managed to win simply do to his training and mindset.
It's actually quite the opposite; liquid believes that's what happend but at the end of MGS 1 when ocelot is reporting to solidus, he says that the inferior one won (Meaning Solid) and the whole time liquid believed he was the inferior one when in fact he was the superior twin.
Alright MF's here is what I know from the clips and snippets I know. Naked Snake was the first snake, trained by the Boss who tried to kill him then switched sides to big bad guys after revealing she was a spy. Turns out she was a double agent this whole time to fool the enemy into thinking she works for them, and let Snake kill her since there can only be one Boss. She died a patriot but was forgotten and tarnished, leading Snake, now Big Boss to create a secret organization that will serve the soldier instead of the country. To protect himself as he makes this new base, he had brainwashed and facially reconstructed a medic who was also his friend to think he was Big Boss, named Venom Snake. Venom's job was to make the Big Boss a living legend, but to also make all international focus on him, keeping the real Big Boss safe as he built the organization. Solid and Liquid snake are then created from Big Boss's DNA to be the ultimate soldiers

She is a mother to Revolver Ocelot who would later become a spy like her, mother figure to Naked Snake, and Mother to Special Forces. By the end of Peacewalker, after a lot of failure and shenanigans, he willfully accepts death by embracing Solid Snake who had a virus on him that would kill him. He told Solid to go and live in peace, not waste it fighting. As those were the Boss's words to him that only then did he realize. Since when she told him that in the past, he believed she had betrayed everything they believed in as soldiers. He died saluting the Grave of the Boss.

He destroys a metal gear again 5. After this snake fights solidous snake who was the president, and then the ghost of liquid snak also the clone of snake, Then liquid snakes ghost comes back throigh ocelot gets defeated again 6. Liquid snake is back and wants big bosses body. He takes big boss body but then snake kills him. Then the revelations happen. liquid snake actually died fighting solid snake and this entire time ocelot was pretending to be possed by liquid snakes conscience all with the goal of destroying the la li lu le lo, a secret society made originally by big boss but that split up into another society. But actually this entire time big boss was actually alive and it turns out that the big boss solid snake killed *see 2 for reference was actually a fake big boss that switched with big boss. Also the big boss body that liquid stole was actually solidous snake the clone of naked snake. Snake then kills naked snake through a virus planted in him during the events of *3 and finally destroys the secret society once snd for all, but before dying naked snake reveals one final thing: TURNS OUT THEY MISSINTERPRETED WHAT THE BOSS ACTUALLY MEANT AND NONE OF THIS WAS NECESSARY IN THE FIRST PLACE. Everyone dies, and solid snake lives for 1 year before dying. After this his friend fights a buff us politician (yes this actually happened) The chronological order of thense games is confusing as well. Metal Gear Solid 3SE, Metal Gear Solid 5 parts 1 and 2, Metal Gear 1 and 2, Metal Gear Solid 1, Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 4 and Metal Gear Rising If you're confused don't worry it's more confusing one you actually play it lmao

Solidus is also known as george Sears, and was the president of the United States at one point. It's actually quite the opposite; liquid believes that's what happend but at the end of MGS 1 when ocelot is reporting to solidus, he says that the inferior one won (Meaning Solid) and the whole time liquid believed he was the inferior one when in fact he was the superior twin.

Naked Snake was the first snake, trained by the Boss who tried to kill him then switched sides to big bad guys after revealing she was a spy. Turns out she was a double agent this whole time to fool the enemy into thinking she works for them, and let Snake kill her since there can only be one Boss. She died a patriot but was forgotten and tarnished, leading Snake, now Big Boss to create a secret organization that will serve the soldier instead of the country. To protect himself as he makes this new base, he had brainwashed and facially reconstructed a medic who was also his friend to think he was Big Boss, named Venom Snake. Venom's job was to make the Big Boss a living legend, but to also make all international focus on him, keeping the real Big Boss safe as he built the organization. Solid and Liquid snake are then created from Big Boss's DNA to be the ultimate soldiers

By the end of Peacewalker, after a lot of failure and shenanigans, he willfully accepts death by embracing Solid Snake who had a virus on him that would kill him. He told Solid to go and live in peace, not waste it fighting. As those were the Boss's words to him that only then did he realize. Since when she told him that in the past, he believed she had betrayed everything they believed in as soldiers. He died saluting the Grave of the Boss.

The story was so simple when the games were still in 2D exclusive to old PCs. After the jump to 3D though things changed. Remember how in MG2 it was like “somehow Big Boss returned” but MGS5 revealed MG1 Big Boss was actually Venom Snake turned evil and the real Big Boss showed up in MG2 where Snake proceeded to murder with hair spray before ditching his date to move to Alaska and then kidnapped to do the Shadow Moses mission in MGS1?

To be fair, they each make sense in their induvidual games. It's only a mess if you're trying to explain all of them. Them all being "Snake" just means you know hwo the main character is.

*MGS IN A NUTSHELL:*
1. Snake kills the boss and becomes big boss but it turns out the boss was an ally faking to be an enemy. The boss has a wish that is passed to naked snake the big boss but also ocelot is revealed to be the boss son (he pretended to be an enemy but was a triple agent)
2. snake was then cloned into 3 other snakes. Big boss gets his base blown up by cypher so he gets revenge
3. Solid snake, snakes clone, kills big boss (naked snake) and blows his base up, destroying a nuke machine called metal gear
4.Snake kills liquid snake, his brother who is naked snakes clone. He destroys a metal gear again
5. After this snake fights solidous snake who was the president, and then the ghost of liquid snak also the clone of snake, Then liquid snakes ghost comes back throigh ocelot gets defeated again
6. Liquid snake is back and wants big bosses body. He takes big boss body but then snake kills him.
Then the revelations happen. liquid snake actually died fighting solid snake and this entire time ocelot was pretending to be possed by liquid snakes conscience all with the goal of destroying the la li lu le lo, a secret society made originally by big boss but that split up into another society. But actually this entire time big boss was actually alive and it turns out that the big boss solid snake killed *see 2 for reference was actually a fake big boss that switched with big boss. Also the big boss body that liquid stole was actually solidous snake the clone of naked snake. Snake then kills naked snake through a virus planted in him during the events of *3 and finally destroys the secret society once snd for all, but before dying naked snake reveals one final thing:
TURNS OUT THEY MISSINTERPRETED WHAT THE BOSS ACTUALLY MEANT AND NONE OF THIS WAS NECESSARY IN THE FIRST PLACE. Everyone dies, and solid snake lives for 1 year before dying. After this his friend fights a buff us politician (yes this actually happened)
The chronological order of thense games is confusing as well. Metal Gear Solid 3SE, Metal Gear Solid 5 parts 1 and 2, Metal Gear 1 and 2, Metal Gear Solid 1, Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 4 and Metal Gear Rising

Solidus is the name of state where a solid becomes a liquid ( or the oppsite I'm not too sure), solidus snake is an antagonist in mgs 2. He is made after solid and liquid snake, and has double aging issues so ages even faster than solid and liquid. He adopted a kid named Jack, who later became jack the ripper, and then raiden. Solidus is also known as george Sears, and was the president of the United States at one point. I tried my best to not spoil too much about who he is as a person and his motivations and stuff in this description. If he seems interesting feel free to play mgs 2 or watch a character analysis video
