Hi guys! :D Thanks for the positive feedback. Here's my answer to a few of the commonly asked questions:
-- Is the headboard mounted: It's not mounted to the wall. I pulled my mattress about 2 inches off the base and stuck the headboard in that 2-inch space between the wall and the mattress. Because it's pretty sturdy, it doesn't move. And you don't really notice that the mattress overhangs the bed frame. Will add a photo to show soon!
Cost: If I had to buy the key materials, an approximate cost would be US$160 for wood planks, fabric, foam, batting, spray glue, wood screws. I already owned some of the materials and had the tools on hand.
-- Fabric colour and type: The fabric is a very pale lilac and I believe it's velveteen. Yes it's super soft :)
Additional thoughts:
-- Wood planks: Using the planks made the headboard super heavy so if weight is a concern, you can use a 3/4 inch sheet of plywood cut down into the size planks you'd like or use a lighter but sturdy material.
Hope this helps.

I like how you include any mistakes, so that we know what to watch out for VS acting like everything is super simple and you did it in 5 minutes 🤓💜
Thanks Josh! Yes, it's super important to me that ppl see all the sides of DIY projects. There's often lots of frustration, mistakes and remakes 😃
A Trini youtuber with excellent video quality and great content...LOVE IT
Thanks so much, Leah!! 😊
I came looking for inspiration to make a headboard, clicked on your video which showed up when I searched, heard your accent 🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹-pride, immediately subbed. Love this vid.
Whoop whoop. Thanks much, Melinda! :)
Sounds like a Trini accent! Looks awesome!
Yes 💯% trini ☺. Thanks much!
I love the way you talk. 👍
Thanks :)
She sounds like a Trini
Me too🥰
Me too, where are you from? Love from South Africa 🤍
Trini!!!! 🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹
This is by far the best tutorial came across so far. Thank you!!!!
I think it was just as important to see what NOT to do as much as it was how to do it correctly. Good for you for showing that! Looks great.
I had no idea that channel tufted headboard could be so straightforward! It looks so luxe. Thanks for the awesome instructions.
Thanks for watching! You're welcome. Let me know if you try it out 😊
it's always so wonderful to hear a Trini accent on the YT
Lol! I know the feeling. Thanks much and let me know how it goes! :D
I’m from Trini too❤️ So happy I found this channel. Great video
Ayyy 💃🏾💃🏾 🇹🇹 🇹🇹 🇹🇹 lol. Welcome and thanks much!
I will definitely do this in January 2021. This is so very much luxurious.
Yay, glad to hear.
It’s January 🤸🏾♀️
Did you did it?
Very nice job. I just ordered 2 single bed channel headboards off Amazon for an amazing £34.99 each, and they're surprisingly very well made and look great ! The bed shop wanted £139.00 each for theirs, so I declined. I think this style is much nicer than the quilted button style you see everywhere.
Nice. That's a great idea!
Smart ambitious girls 👏🏼👏🏼
Hi I really love your personality and how you covered every single step mentioning the 'not to do's' as you go.
You are a smart person to have easily figured this out and, you have great taste in fabric. That is velvet fabric. There's silk velvet, cotton velvet and polyester (which is a bit too shinny). I believe you had a beautiful, perfect velvet and I love the color!. I hope you buy some scotchgard from walmart and spray it to protect it from any stains. I want to make my headboard now that you've inspired me! Thank you so much teacher 🙂💝🙏🏼
Gosh, thanks so much for your kind words! You're most welcome. ☺Super glad the video inspired you. I didn't use Scotchgarde on it unfortunately :( but I just give it a clean ever so often. Hope you got to make your headboard. Keep well. 💞💞
This is beautiful! I may make this early next year but use a foam insulation sheet from the big box stores instead of wood for the planks. Light weight & easy to cut with an electric knife. Thank you for the video, you did a great job!
Thanks much! Yes, that would work great too I think. I'd love to see how it turns out.
GREAT idea. How well does that hold up???
@@debrahouston2884 haven’t tried it yet.....
How did you fix it to the bed box or the back ??
Wow!! Not only is it beautiful, but the work is such good quality. Amazing job 👏👏👏
Thanks so much!
Loving my Trini accent and enjoying this
Thank you. :D
Thanks so much! I watched about 25 videos on how to do this and will definitely be using your way! Great professional finish!
Beautiful headboard! I've been looking for something that's tuft without the button look and this is perfect. Thank you for the video and walking us through it.
Thanks. So happy to hear. You're most welcome!!
I’ve been wanting to redo my headboard but couldn’t settle on a look - then I found this!!! Thank you so much for for the amazing inspiration and for sharing your tips on the process!!!
Yay! Happy to hear. You're most welcome!
Im in love with your accent 😍. You did such a great job on this project.
Awww thanks much on both counts! :D
Thank u for sharing the mistakes along the process. It looks Beautiful! 👏🏼
You're most welcome and thank much!
I'm going to start a job next week, which is making headboards🤣🤣🤣 so I decided to come watch some videos ❤️😍 beautiful job done. I've never done it but I'm good at DIY'S so hopefully the job won't be difficult for me.
First, WOW! Your technique is flawless with that upholstery process! You could've given a professor of mine, and a few former coworkers, a lesson on professional finishing!
I just wanted to add since I noticed you using a box knife on the foam, that if you can find a cheap or thrift store electric carving knife, they run through upholstery foam like a hot knife through butter! Obviously they're more critical in places like props shops where you need to do more than straight lines, but they also cut down on time with any regular home projects. Plus, if you have an electric carving knife already, I'd suggest just getting new blades for food and using the old ones for crafting. Make sure to put some paint on the crafting ones just to be safe. 😉👍
Last thought, I know your plan was an adjustable size, but it's also possible to get that effect without needing as much fabric and batting by instead carving the foam and then treating it like a tufting project. If I can find my booklet from school on how to I will come back and share the process.
Thank you for creating such a detailed tutorial and showing what really quietly craftsmanship looks like!
Scrolled more and found this version with horizontal channelling. It's not exactly how I was taught to do it, but it's from a professional upholstery company so it's got a super clean finish.
Like I said, the downside to this type of technique is you don't have the same level of customizability in size, PLUS, your version definitely makes it easier to change your mind on fabrics at any point in the future.
Thanks very much, Katie! I really try to make my DIYs as professional-looking as possible or else it would bother the perfectionist in me 😄
Yes, re using an electric knife. It would definitely make the project easier. I initially looked for one where I live but decided in the end to just use what I had on hand. But you've reminded me that I still need to pick up one as I have some more upholstery projects coming up.
Thanks again for your lovely comment and for sharing your tips!
And I also want to try another one using a different technique that would be easier though not as customizable size-wise.
I saw a video where they used that carving technique with the foam across one sheet of plywood. So that's one I'll try next.
Have a lovely Sunday
Ok. I am going to try this. I have my planks, my batting, and my tools. I am going to get my fabric today.
Yay! I'm sure it'll turn out awesome. Let me know how it goes/went ☺
@@LifesAHmazing I’m still on hold bec I can’t find a good fabric store to get my fabric from. I am in Illinois and Fishmans and Vogue are gone and JoAnn Fabrics just doesn’t ever have the fabrics I like. Help!!! Lol
@@tfp6382 Oh shoot that's a bummer. You can always use cheap/affordable curtain panels (ikea has some great velvet ones) or even fabric shower curtains. But try looking for a similar fabric in curtains that you won't mind cutting up.
@@LifesAHmazing You are amazing. I will go to iKEA tomorrow.
@@tfp6382 aww glad to help. Really hope you get through
That is surely a labor of love! I just bought one on Wayfair for $120. It’s not quite as big as yours but I don’t have the attention span to finish my projects ❤️
It definitely was! LOL
I followed your steps and I ended up with the best thing I ever done in my life
Oh my gosh this makes me so happy to know! Congrats on getting it done, Khadidja. 💃🏾 👏🙌 Feel free to tag me on Instagram @lifesahmazing if you share it.
Would be nice to show how this was either attached to bed or wall.
That looks great. And you did awesome job explaining and step by step. Very much appreciate your creation. Blessing to you. Keep doing these!
Wow this is the most simple and easy to follow .. love it so much
I will follow this when I have my vacation leave in Philippines... Thank you Madam...
Thanks and you're most welcome
Absolute great job!!! In love with it and you really didn’t leave any detail out 😍
Thanks so much!
When I heard the Trinidad accent 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽😍 yesss thank you for this!
😃😃
This is a really nice DIY of a bed Headboard... Wow... I like that you explained step by step.
You did a good job. You made it look so easy. I've moved into a new apartment and my goal is to make as many furniture and decor pieces as I can. Thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks Virginia! Sounds like an exciting journey. Enjoy your new apt and your decorating journey 💃🏾💃🏾
How did you attached headboard to the bed ???
You did an amazing job!!! It’s absolutely beautiful 🤩
Thanks much Debbie!
This is such a fun DIY project! You're SO talented! 👏🏾👏🏾
Thanks much! I did enjoy making it after I got over my fear of the air compressor lol.
LUV that it is done in sections, so you can modify this for Twin, King or Ca. King. PERF!
Hi Debra. Yes, I love the ability to customize it!
Thank you for the clear instructions. It looks beautiful. Definitely something I am going to do soon.
You're welcome and thanks much! I love to see how it turns out if you make it.
This turned out beautiful and I would love to try making it! I'm curious to know, how should I attach it to the wall?
Thanks Brianna! Mine isn't attached. But if you want to attach yours, you can possibly use a French cleat (example of what I initially bought is linked in description) but be sure to purchase or make one that can stand the weight. Or you can also add three legs to the headboard frame and have it free standing. Hope this helps. Happy to answer any additional questions
Thank you so much!
Really great instructional video. Love that you share your mistakes so that we can learn from them. Awesome stuff!!!
Thanks so much, Jill! Really appreciate the feedback.
I love how it turned out congrats girl
Thanks much!!
Beautiful work!

Beautiful, wish you had a more zoomed out shot to see how it looked like w the bed and in the room
Hi Anna! Thanks much and yup I see your point. Here's my blog post with the full room reveal: bit.ly/smallbedroomreveal. Hopefully it gives you a better sense. I'm also planning a follow-up headboard video so will be sure to pan out. :)
Nice job. I might give this a go to replace the solid wood headboard we’ve got.
Thank much! Defo have a go at it. You can probably even repurpose your existing headboard to make it depending on the style of it.
Wow, its beautiful! And you are beautiful! thank you for sharing!
@Gdaiva1, awww thank you so much!

My new project. Thank you fir the inspiration and tips. But I didn’t see how you hooked it to the wall ? Or did you make legs for it to stand on the ground ?
Hi you're welcome. It's wedged between my mattress and the wall

Thank you so much for sharing your design. I chose to follow your design because yours is adjustable. I'll be working on mine this weekend.
Hi Cynthia! You're most welcome. Super happy to hear that. I'd love to hear how it turns out.

Well done that’s gorgeous
Thanks much :)
Wow... it's awesome. U look good too.. Love from India. Keep Going 👍👍
Aww thanks much!
I love it, looks absolutely gorgeous. What colour swede fabric did you use?
Thanks much Adrianna! It's a muted lilac that looks slightly grey depending on the light. Wasn't what I was initially going for but it worked in the end. Hope this helps.
@@LifesAHmazing oh my! I would never have picked muted lilac for the colour, looked almost latte. It’s gorgeous. I’ve been considering making a headboard for a couple of years but the colour is the hardest part for me.
@@adriannabonanno6600 It definitely wasn't what I was originally looking for lol but super glad I got it. What colour(s) are you considering?
@@LifesAHmazing yeah! Colour changes in the room too depending on other decor, wall paint and lighting. That’s also what’s making it hard for me, we have a couple of house moves ahead of us and a potential re-furnish.. I’m tossing between a safe white, or going bold like a pale sage or deep forest green.. maybe a latte. So undecided. I’ll let you know when we figure it out! 😅
@@adriannabonanno6600 Ah ok gotcha. Lots to consider! Those greens sound awesome though. All the best.
Great tutorial 👏!

Very nice. Very creative!
I am sooooo inspired to try this diy!! How much did it cost you for all of the supplies needed?

Very beautyfull. How did you attach it to the bed?🌸
Thanks Alma. I pulled my mattress about 2 inches off the base and stuck the headboard in that 2-inch space between the wall and the mattress. Because it's pretty sturdy, it doesn't move. And you don't really notice that the mattress overhangs the bed frame.
Big up you. At least I know i can source these things in Trinidad. Nicee tutorial
Hey Rogena, thanks much!! Yup, you can definitely get the materials here. Let me know how it goes.
Thank you for this video 🥰❤️😍🙏
You're welcome!
I wish that youtube had better closed captions. Barely could understand but at least the video was step by step. Thank you for sharing💛
Hi. Thanks for watching and glad you could follow along. I also wrote the syep by step tutorial in this blog post, in case someone also finds that useful - www.lifesahmazing.com/diy-channel-headboard-progress-one-room-challenge-week-3/
Nice project! May I suggest your drill vertically instead of inclined?
Lol thanks! Yes, I've gotten better at holding the drill steady and straight. It was actually my first time using it and I was initially scared of it :D
Is it free standing against the wall, or hanging on a bracket. Great job by the way
Thanks Noel. It's not mounted or freestanding. It's wedged between my mattress and the wall. Decided not to mount it in the end.
@@LifesAHmazing that’s what I did years ago when I made mine and it works, now to make one just like yours when the shops open back up. To buy one in the shops are mad expensive
How did you hang it ?
I love how it turned out! So nice! Im actually searching for this for so long cos i wanna make one as well, thank you.
Thanks much for your comment and you're most welcome! Let me know if you have any questions when you're making it.

To misquote Jack Nicholson as the Joker in Batman...
"Where do you get all those great toys?!"

Toys already in Amazon cart 🤣
After relocating, I am planning on redesigning my DIY headband using your design and toys🤣🤣
Thank you for the inspiration
Great job and TFS

@nedishajones1266 Lovely! Get you get to complete it?
This is incredible! Thank you! I will be doing this ASAP 💕
So glad to hear! You're welcome x
Beautiful!!!
Wow! Beautiful! About how many hours did this take you?
Thanks Shantel! Sooo *if* I had done it in one go, it probably would've taken a weekend (with an electric or pneumatic staple gun). Truth is I started the project, stopped for a several months and then took abt 2 weeks to finally complete it. 😖😖 😄
The headboard is beautiful
This is so impressive and beautiful!
Thanks much Tiffany!
Can you drop the link to the fabric PLS?? It’s my favorite color/ style EVER. Been looking FOREVER for those babies!
Oh gosh sorry, I wish I had a link to share. I bought it at a local fabric store here in Trinidad and Tobago. It was an end of roll as well. :(
I have zero knowledge about fabrics. Could you tell me the name of that Fabric? It looks so soft!!!
Hi Jorge. I believe it's velveteen. It is super soft!
