Oldest Samurai House in Fukui 千古の家（福井県坂井市・坪川家住宅）

There is a very old house designated as a national important cultural asset in the mountain area of Sakai city, Fukui pref.
This is called "Senko-No-Ie", and is one of the oldest existing private houses in Japan. The topknot on the top of the roof shows that it was a samurai's house.
The remarkable thatched roof has withstood heavy snow in winter, also it has a function to beat the heat in summer. The beautiful curve and the depth can be said that the architecture of powerful local clan's has remained.

福井県坂井市の山間部に国の重要文化財に指定された古民家があります。
この家は「千古の家」と呼ばれ、全国に残されている民家の中でも、最も古い時代の民家の一つです。
屋根の一番上にはちょんまげがあり、武士の家であったことを物語っています。総かやぶきの見事な屋根は冬の雪に耐え、夏の暑さをしのぐ機能を備え、その美しい曲線と重厚さは地方豪族の権威を示す建物の様式がそのまま残されたものと言えます。
