Highly disagree with sentiment on the base RC-F in the description. It's a great car in the 60k range and just about the perfect daily driver. You pay for the quality of manufacturing, parts, etc., and if there ever was a performance vehicle worth buying it's one with a 2UR-GSE. Save the leases for the time bomb M or AMG engines.
100% agreed. I’ve had my RC-F for the last four years and as a daily it has been a joy to own. From cross-country and up and down both coasts, to day-to-day life in NYC, the car hasn’t had a single issue. Not even a rattle. Few cars I’ve ever driven inspire more confidence in their build quality. It isn’t a track toy, but as a fun, fairly fast daily GT it is hard to beat.
MrCarGuy20 exactly save the leases for the European vehicles The isf/ rcf./gsf are not a garage queens 👸 There multi. Purpose vehicle you can track them and use them as daily drivers with all the comforts of reliability and luxury
All the RCF needs to handle better would be wider tires and a inch lower to compensate for the weight. I'm talking about both track edition and non track.
He is biased. GSF is much bigger, heavier and has a long wheelbase and also slower. RCF gives up some practicality, but gains in performance and handling. GSF has a bigger rear cabin and rear doors. It is also tuned softer than the RCF, but for someone like me, I purchased the RCF carbon/TVD because of the styling, smaller size and sportier drive.
@@akramishmael5604 It is hard not to be a bit biased since he did purchase a RCF. I had to believe even though RCF IS no doubt the inferior car of the two (literally pieced together from 3 other cars and heavy AF), it should not be far off until you drive it on the track. Right now RCF is running high 30K and low 40K, sounds like a good deal to me. 96K for a mildly-upgraded (tire, wheel, hood, wing) with a 30K up-charge, is an insult to our intelligence.
@@akramishmael5604 I have driven both extensively. Only the fact that GSF comes with TVD standard while RCF has it as part of the optional carbon/TVD. I have the carbon/TVD and drove only the carbon/TVD and it is a lot more nimbler, sharper, smaller, lighter and stiffer than the GSF. GSF is almost a foot long so I did not like how big it felt. I cannot speak for the LSD RCF.
@AustinSBL306 You are absolutely clueless hater. I own an RCF and have taken my RCF to the track. I would not have spent so much money buying an RCF carbon/TVD and keeping it for a very long time in the future, if it was not incredibly fun and exciting car to drive. I could not care less about numbers. It is about driving fun even when I take it to the track.
Get a regular RC-F. Then get a carbon hood from Seibon, custom wing. Nice tires and rims. And a custome Ti Exhaust. Still less than from the factory with this. All about how much bread $ you got... which I got none
Only 50 RCF track editions being made. It’s a collector cars. All the other cars that people are comparing to are mass produced and will drop in value. It also has carbon ceramics brakes, different gearing, carbon fiber everywhere and a lot of there things. If you want an actual track car you buy a ISF take it to RR Racing and have a 630whp monster.
It probably runs slower times than a $35K front wheel drive Civic Type R. We know for sure it runs significantly slower track times than a Camaro SS 1LE or Mustang GT PP2, which cost $50K.
I have an RCF with the performance pack that I picked up certified for less than 50k. is a BMW (or whatever) a second or two faster around a track? Sure. do I have a naturally aspirated V8 that is balls out fun, still pulling hard at 150 with Toyota reliability and a kickass Sound system. yes I do. Seriously it is the best daily driver ever. GSF is heavier and a 4 door. Lastly, If you must have more power a supercharger kit puts 7-800 HP at you fingertips for less than 10k
This car needs to ditch the electric seats, use titanium exhaust and carbon ceramic discs. Use dry carbon roof, bumpers and trunk lid. That alone will shave 80-100 kg. Ditch the auto and put in 6 speed manual. Put some ITBs on those V8. Use what they learn from LFA to channel the intake roar into cabin. Tune the suspension and dial out that nasty understeer. Make 500 units and charge $110k.
Oh that engine is wonderful but the track edition is certainly not worth $30k more. I’d buy the regular model and for $10k get a nice Öhlins setup and some wheels and/or tires for the track. Lexus has big nuts charging this much for the package
No amount of aftermarket will make the RC F a competitor. Chassis and weight issues remain. I had, modified, and sold a 2017 RC F. Great cruiser, yes. Track monster or street racer, not a chance.
As an RCF, ISF, IS200, IS300 GTE swapped owner, I'd never buy the track edition. For 30k in mods, I can get a SC and the rest of those parts and then have better times for FAR less money. Edit: Even the standard one drives similar to what Matt says. I've noticed an insane amount of understeer when trying to slide it.. Chassis is way to stiff and struggles to grip in the rear. the ISF has way more rear grip even with less tire.
I'm grateful to Lexus for keeping the V8 naturally aspirated engine. The only problem I have with them is that they don't want to put manual transmissions with those V8s and it's more insulting when they don't even have it on a Track Edition of this. I'll be honest I'd get this if I had money and was absolutely fine with automatics but sadly none of those categories work for me.
scotianFC3S cause just like Toyota said at the Supra launch no one buys these cars new so they get killed off after a few years gotta love those “car enthusiasts” that don’t buy new
I agree wholeheartedly. On my RCF, i was able to achieve everything i wanted with aftermarket parts, and personalize it to my taste for about 30K on top. The amount of money they're asking for, for the new RCF with this new track edition package, is simply unjustified. Not to mention the dealer markups on top of the asking.
I love Lexus, I fell in love with them while working for Lexus as a technician for 6 years. Reliability, Exterior design and interior quality are some of the best in the industry BUT lol performance and handling are NOT Toyota/Lexus strong point. Toyota seems to not be able to, or they just don’t want to, bring their racing development properly to the street. I believe they have the ability to make their cars handle and perform better but honestly they hold back.
As an RCF owner, I really don't understand why this car was made in the first place... I mean unless they did some serious modifications to the car other than giving it a 5hp gain and a weight loss of only 176lbs it just still isn't a competitor. The normal RCFs (non track edition) are amazing cars for daily driving and have just enough handling for the streets but when you take the same car (with a few little modifications) name it "Track Edition" and try to throw it on the track it really isn't going to be a serious competitor at all.. in fact a used 2015 RCF you can get for a low 40k with about 10k thrown at it will beat this car on the track which is just not good at all considering this track edition goes for about 100k... In my eyes the RCF is a great sporty luxury street car that i would recommend to anyone but if you plan on it being competitive at all i don't recommend this car unless you have deep pockets and REALLY like the car that much.
I really love my RC350 and still contend it's the right RC to own. They're GT cars, not sports cars. It's a beautiful, comfy car with a nice interior and some power that's reasonably nice to drive, but ultimately it's a Interstate mile slayer for road tripping and commuting.
Lexus bullet proof reliability. But it should not cost so much for that. O well. Wait 10 years for it to hit the used market if you have to have one. Until then, just look for SC300's and 400's
The money numbers in this video are totally bogus. The base RCF is only $68, but a fully loaded one is $82K. Add ceramic brakes at $10K, that means the Track edition, or the newer Fuji edition is charging you about $10K for the carbon fiber and exclusive limited production of 60 units.
Matt, you forgot to add that it also has a titanium exhaust system. Its lighter overall with the carbon bits and lighter wheels but only like 150lbs I think......I agree though, too much extra money for little gains.
That car will last for years with regular maintenance. After having owned a number of German competitor vehicles, I value that aspect about as much as anything.
That is a very unfair review. RCF, LC500 and GSF all serve different purposes. RCF is much smaller, lighter, stiffer and sportier than the other two cars. They both are 4200+ lbs and have softer and more insulated experience. Funny thing is, Matt loved the RCF carbon/TVD in 2015 saying it was maybe better than the M4 and much better than the C63 and RS5 (previous gen). RCF gives up size and practicality, but it gains on driving excitement and outright speed while still retaining decent practicality. RCF was quicker than the Supra on this very track Thunderhill in the R&T PCOTY by over 1.5 seconds while it still has 4 seats. Lexus made a mistake not putting TVD on the track edition as it really helps initial turn in under braking and under throttle.
I own a ISF and to be honest love it so much I want to also own a 2020 RCF but non track edition. I agree for me it's a waste but you gotta love these cars. I'll be purchasing a 2020+ styled one when I pay off my ISF next year. I wont be selling my ISF I'm just going to add the RCF to my car collection
I bought a 3 year old RCF with 35k miles performance pack for 35K usd. It's hell of a car for that money. Can't beat the reliability and Carolla comparable maintenance cost. @@carholic-sz3qv Doesn't a supra also have to be a Toyota car? Well since they threw that out the window, might as well throw out the inline 6 too if you can. I'm not mad at the whole new supra deal, but seriously if your goal is an affordable good car, no body would mind the v8 (if they could get the engine to fit that is)
A v8 in a supra? Hell no. I agree with the manual
Because the whole internet would whine if it had a V8?
"It's not long for this world"
Lexus in 2021: IS 500!
Thank you Lexus!
They have to bring the weight down considerably to really impress.
Dan The Man Yeap, make it a 2,100lbs car.
When I heard they were doin this car I got really excited because I thought it was gonna be a street legal version of the rcf gt3 concept car. Needs to drop 500 lbs and stiffen the floor somehow
What I cant ignore is how behind the car Matt's eyes are. His eyes hit the apex as he is turning towards it...makes for choppy driving and tire wear. Your eyes should be at the apex and identifying turn in with peripheral, once turn in, then apex becomes peripheral...he is WAY back from that. Hence why his driving hasn't improved in years of watching.
I wonder how much it’ll be worth in 20 years when all the v8’s are gone
Just get the regular RCF and throw 30k at it. And you'll get a real track monster
That engine sounds amazing! But yeah, if I actually ever had any money at all, I'd take the LC500 over this every time.
I drive one of my customers RCFs all the time and to me I love the way it drives as a Daily Driver
If you're calling your RC-F a great car becuase it's good to cruise with from coast to coast you pretty much proved Matt right.
I was gonna ask about the GS F because you liked that car so much. The GS seems to be the better choice
@@2ZZGE100 He's somehow biased, but you're the one that bought an RCF? Most reviewers agreed that the RCF is inferior as a driver experience.
This one had the front tires deleted in 6 minutes lmao! And we all know Matt can drive.
Get a regular RC-F. Then get a carbon hood from Seibon, custom wing. Nice tires and rims. And a custome Ti Exhaust. Still less than from the factory with this. All about how much bread $ you got... which I got none
Sheeeit take the regular RCF and make my own. 🤣
We know for sure it runs significantly slower track times than a Camaro SS 1LE or Mustang GT PP2, which cost $50K.
wrong in fact it was faster then the 2019 m2 competiton on you tubers Throttle houses home track
Im loving the homer helmet Matt
They want $15K for that damn hood. Tried to get it for my 2015. The weight doesn’t matter man, the RCF is such an amazing daily driver.
Track Edition also comes with Carbon Ceramic brakes, a titanium exhaust and I believe lighter control arms.
A car looking like this with such engine is never a waste of any single penny
This is what the internet was made for. Oh, and memes.
They should have took the GT350R route with Carbon Wheels. Would have benefited this car WAY more than the rear wing.
2015 RCF Carbon Owner and I agree. You can get used RC-F for 50K and get to Stage 3 Supercharge for under 90K.
0:52 "and you get to say you have the track edition" LAMOO
Sadly enough, there's people out there that will pay extra just to be able to say that
I'm grateful to Lexus for keeping the V8 naturally aspirated engine. The only problem I have with them is that they don't want to put manual transmissions with those V8s and it's more insulting when they don't even have it on a Track Edition of this. I'll be honest I'd get this if I had money and was absolutely fine with automatics but sadly none of those categories work for me.
When you think about it, that hood is 10k+, exhaust another 10k+ front lip, side skirts and diffuser, another 7-8k. Still way too expensive tho
forgot about the ceramic brakes
That's why I plan to buy one used in a few years.
For 30k more, I would expect at least a carbon fiber hood, trunk, roof, and possibly doors to cut down the weight.
Does anyone have a reason why they couldn’t just base this car on the same chassis of the new gen IS300?? I feel like this would’ve helped. 🤔
Always wondered why they didn't make a new ISF, the first gen one was nice
Don’t think the is300 chassis can fit a v8
scotianFC3S we need a new isf and no bmw involvement like the supra
scotianFC3S cause just like Toyota said at the Supra launch no one buys these cars new so they get killed off after a few years gotta love those “car enthusiasts” that don’t buy new
I agree wholeheartedly. On my RCF, i was able to achieve everything i wanted with aftermarket parts, and personalize it to my taste for about 30K on top. The amount of money they're asking for, for the new RCF with this new track edition package, is simply unjustified. Not to mention the dealer markups on top of the asking.
How much hp does yours have now? Thanks
Carbon brakes are FUCKING EXPENSIVE on any car. That's why it costs so much and he didn't even mention that.
WOW! This was really fun to watch.
Love the honesty.
Love that engine
Lexus bullet proof reliability. But it should not cost so much for that. O well. Wait 10 years for it to hit the used market if you have to have one. Until then, just look for SC300's and 400's
a waste of money my ass, that thing is beautiful my man!!
What do you think? RCFTE or a GT350?
Matt, you forgot to add that it also has a titanium exhaust system. Its lighter overall with the carbon bits and lighter wheels but only like 150lbs I think......I agree though, too much extra money for little gains.
That car will last for years with regular maintenance. After having owned a number of German competitor vehicles, I value that aspect about as much as anything.
How do you not mention the carbon ceramic brakes and the titanium exhaust? It's not all cosmetic carbon fiber upgrades.
They need to put that engine in the 3rd gen Tacoma's
I hope Lexus’s next generation of luxury sport coupes use the Supra/Z4 chassis. I think the NA V8 in that chassis would be a magical combo.
They aren't. It's strictly staying with the i6 unless some customer thinks of swapping it themselves.
For an extra $30k and it doesn’t add any more horsepower, that alone makes it worthless
I bought a 3 year old RCF with 35k miles performance pack for 35K usd. It's hell of a car for that money. Can't beat the reliability and Carolla comparable maintenance cost. Love the sound of the engine, my straight piped exhaust & the quality workmanship. No repairs or problems reported with this powertrain. Very reliable even with a supercharger.
How much bhp are you pushing with the supercharger and did you have to do any ECU mods ?
@@NazimUddin-yk2tz Mine is stock as the SC kit installed is like 15k USD. Check RR racing dot com for details: For their base "RR670" kit make about 670hp at the crank, or 560 to 570whp (wheel horsepower on a Dynojet dyno, SAE correction -- see dyno result chart below and in the product photos gallery) at approximately 6psi peak boost pressure, 93 pump gas, equipped with standard PPE headers and a high flow dual exhaust.
Optional Power: With Stage 1 ethanol kit, you can expect 638whp and 521wtrq. This translates into about 750hp at the crank! With our optional Stage 2 kit, which includes and external sump and fuel pump, you will get a whooping 660whp or 770hp at the crank!
@@karambir87 nice , didn't know the Lexus V8 engines are that tuneable , can't wait to see them deprecate in price 🤣 I worked for Toyota and lexus for 3 years
@@NazimUddin-yk2tz well Idk what kind of price u are waiting for. If u are thinking in low 20s that is probably still 5-6 years away. Even then what you gonna get for that price will be really beatup. ISF actually started going up in value as soon as they stopped production. That's usually the case with powertrain like these. This is as reliable as it's gets. Landcruiser level reliably or better

Collectable? Porsche?
They depreciate like used tampons.
A GT3 barely musters 300 ft-lbs.
@@135iN55 LoL the 2016 GT4 is still at around 95k 4 years later. But I guess you have to overcompensate with power and size huh.
@@ClassyGentleman69
Ok, so you admit the Porsches are to weak to compensate. They are. They are insanely overpriced puny engine cars. They also have the worst warranty outside of domestic garbage because they need 9000 RPM to make HP from micro engines. 9000 RPM has 1/3rd the design life of standard: 1/(redline/5252)^2
In short, they are typical VW shitboxes, but too unreliable for VW to offer their standard 6Y/72K warranty.
Man that thing is hopping like it's on BC coils, does not look like fun on the track! I will totally agree with the powertrain though, for me the GS F is such a great car for that reason AND a car that was enjoyable on the road, very well-judged ride. It's a shame Lexus mucked this one up, but at that weight the RC F was never going to be a track car, they need to actually rip the leather out and give it some camber for a start.
i can understand the opinion but all I see in the vid is a good car that steers great, stops well, sounds fantastic and changes gears pretty quick
Well, the price is high because it's a special version, all manufacturers do that despite the real cost
I can understand the weight critism but that's the current platform and it's flaws
Steers great? It was all understeer and had a big snap oversteer the second he touched the curb. I'm a big Toyota and Lexus fan but this thing is to stiff, to heavy, and has no balance. Plus at $100k there are just so much better performance cars available.
@@lumntoob999 it is kinda hard to drive with precision when you are talking about the car at the same time but when the driving line was good , i didn't see something out of the ordinary.
You can't expect an almost 500hp car to be pin point sharp and no understeer at all, that would be suicidal for an occasional track day driver
Which alternatives would you suggest in America ?
@@thresh86 your entitled to your opinion, the way I saw it was it looked like massive understeer anytime he tried to steer hard. As far as what I think is a better car for the money, easy choice would be Porsche 911 or a fast Cayman, the c8 Corvette is also a huge value, or a GTR or a lotus evora or a BMW m2, you have the Shelby mustangs and then you can get into used stuff like c7 zo6 Corvette. Like Matt said, there is reason to buy this car like the great engine but not this performance pack that's an extra $30k for a wing and some wheels, it's actually worse than the BMW m4 GTS premium over a regular m4.
You might consider it a waste of money but that thing sounds AMAZING!!!
Glad you like it. You can get the same engine in the lc500 or gsf for the same money AND have a superior car.
So 90+K for what is essentially a newer more bloated version of an E92 M3 that doesn’t handle as good?
I think this is a great car but do the parts and labor cost $30,000 more? I really don't see these cars becoming classics in the future. Still a great car but price wise it doesn't make sense when the aftermarket already has the answers for regular RCF owners.
Might as well look for a lc500 at that price.
How much better would the base model be than this if you bought it and added $30,000 in aftermarket parts yourself??
For the price, you could buy both a used Shelby GT350 AND a Camaro Z/28 (LS7). Both are far superior track cars.
spend the 30k to modifi it yourself
You would save maybe 5k still and have a much better car than this. I dont know what Lexus is thinking. I would add a turbo kit, supercharger, headers, exhaust, tires, etc.
@@Anthony-dk7de you would twin charge a modern Lexus? How long have you been fabricating? What shop do you own? Would you add flame throwers too?

How did you leave out the carbon roof?
It looks visibly heavy to drive, unless they go full GTR with clever technology, 4WD and diffs etc its never gonna be a great track car
I remember seeing this thing at the NYAS and I thought to myself.... "It looks nice but 100k price tag? Why?"
You have a pretty abrupt turn in causing understeer and eventually overheated front tires. Did it in the Vette too.
His turn in is fine my dear keyboard warrior

Good thing a standard RC-F isn't 95k...
MrCarGuy20 you can pick up a used one for 60k Australian which is around 35-40k American dollar.. so much car for the money
i don't know why they didn't stuff this engine into a lighter chassis like the is300 which would have been a monster with that engine package
That yellow Porsche(camisa) said ...bub-bye.
As a GSF owner I agree with what you said. This motor is better suited in GSF chassis with TVD.
$30k for wheels, carbon hood and wing. Smfh. What a waste
