"We are in a federal courthouse, and I have the power, to put you down like a dog". That statement, so cold, would make lava stop flowing. It really defines Red in one sentence. It gives gravitas towards what he is. The boss...of all.
I think that's the clodest "Boss up" I've ever heard. Likeeee what do you do against a man who can pull that off?? Stop Talking and Look Goofy I guess 🤷🏿♂️
“The betrayal is unforgivable, and you will die for it”. Red has a funny way of telling you the truth. He sympathises with Marvin on the other hand, has already concluded his fate😂😂😂. James is by far the best actor on the universe ❤
Oh man!! being fans of both Boston Legal and Black List, is a privilege. We get to see a good actor keep growing in Boston legal and be veteran actor in Black List!! It gets better that none of us can say which character is better....
The quote was: "I wonder how many cowards have gone to their graves insisting on their bravery." He wasn't accusing Marvin of dying for claiming to be brave, but merely of being misguided in thinking he was. He explicit statement was of the irony of Marvin's claim to bravery, when the buried point was very simply that he would die soon. Together, this made for a cold and humorless mockery, driving into his head that his death would be meaningless and without honor.
The beginning. The intro to this sequence and the reddingtons first lines are absolutely insane. "You're judge had to step out so I'll be judging you today" So impressive, so ruthless and and it shows you that the upcoming scene is going to be a masterpiece.
My favorite character portrayed by Fisher Stevens was in 'Short Circuit'... 'I am standing here beside myself' .... lol ... I think of that a lot when I'm waiting on Customer Support...
Wow, what a memorable scene, it’s always a pleasure watching James Spader work & direct… Fisher Stevens played a great role too… Just fantastic series…
In the very first episode, she said that her coworkers called her MISTER Keen because she was such a hardass. Then she proceeded to be nothing but an emotional mess episode after episode. I stopped watching after the episode where she admitted that she threw away Red's DNA test results sight unseen, because she was too scared to find out the truth. Wish they had killed her off years ago.
At the end of this, I was still hoping, right to the end that Liz was alive. That, somehow, some way, Raymond knew what was coming, as he almost always did, and prepared for it. I would have like to see this end with Red's empire no longer being necessary to keep her and Agnes safe, and that they were off somewhere, alive, off the radar, maybe even that private island, living life.
I hope Wujing is a geniune threat in the next season and does some major damage cause hes made out to be one of the most dangerous people but we dont get to see that cause he gets caught out in betrayal by Red we never got to see what he is capable of or his skill set. I hope they dont just throw him away after one episode.
Marvin and Red were never partners, and they didn't create Red's empire together, this entire plot was such a huge retcon to try and stretch the show after Meghan left.
When watching clips from this show, I’m constantly struck by how much Spader learned about acting from just a few short years working with him on Boston Commons.
Marvin just wanted to be the man man instead of being in the sidelines. Unfortunately, it would've been easier if he had just left Red's empire instead and start his own - instead of trying to take over.
Marvin's main problem was in his heart he really believed he was just as responsible for the empire's success as Red was. From that standpoint, he would have been justified in the notion that it wasn't just Red's decision to give it away, they would have equal claim to it if that were the case. The empire truly only worked because of Red, no matter how much of it also hinged on Marvin's involvement throughout. The pressure alone of being it's public figure head was more than the sum of Marvin's contribution, much less how much of it not only surviving but thriving over those decades was because of how much and how many people not only respected, but feared Red's capability to the point of never challenging it. Marvin could never handle the pressure of being in the light, much less have the courage to do all that was necessary to be what Red made himself into.
You never end your enemies immediately...especially those ones who have wronged you...first you make an example of them...ensure others see and know to never cross you or threaten those you hold dear...then you end them.
Yes, He's amazing. He always has been. If you wish to find out, watch his early movies, such as Endless Love, Less than Zero, and in particular, two of the best movies ever (partly bc he was in them), 2 Days in The Valley and Bad Influence, which also proves how good an actor Rob Lowe has been since the beginning. There may be no better actor. He's in De Niro and Nicholson territory. I would love to have seen him play Philip Marlowe.
Did he do it? I've never seen the show, just been watching some of the clips. An interesting character and performance by Spader, but I'm guessing no, he didn't do it, not on network TV. Did he?
No doubt James Spader's turn as Raymond Reddington deserves all the accolades, but we can talk about how good of a weaselly villain Fisher Stevens plays? 1994's Hackers was a "so-bad-it's-good" fun movie, and he played a similar style villain in that. Just perfect.
red doesnt understand that it was him that got liz killed, his pride to be in control of everything got liz killed, his arrogance that people would just accept some random girl taking over the empire people spent their lives building, his ego that no one would dare go against him
She would have destroyed his business. Not only was she a terrible criminal. she had absolutely no clue how to run an empire. She was supposed to learn from the tapes he left, what a joke.
I haven’t seen someone else with so much contingency plans than the worlds greatest detective. Batman, himself. What happens when a brilliant strategist, such as Ray Redfington goes up against a brilliant strategist such as the Dark Knight?
He's small in stature and has always been slim, no extra weight. He's getting older and it's like we shrink. Plus they may have purposely wanted him to look frail.
that kate thing seemed like a very lizzie thing to do. look at your choices and make the very worst one. i hate how liz got off scott free after putting kate in that position. raymond seemed emotionally intelligent enough to know better. we see touching scenes between the 2, one where she would protect him with her life when he was in a hospital bed. there is just no way.
"No deal could ever protect you from me" the way he said it just sent chills down my spine. James Spader is amazing.
"No deal could ever protect you from me",ooh thats a boss move
James Spader just taught a master class in acting.
He is top tier in monologuing.
He always does in this show, in every scene he’s in

We have all seen what Red does to people who betray him. If you ask me at least he gave Marvin a choice on how he wanted to go out.

Yes, Alan Shore

The man gave a Master class in acting within just a few minutes
In James Spader eyes you can see the "Red's" anger towards Marwin. Outstanding acting by him😉

Its not the hat, clothes, team or money. When he has nothing he is still top dog. I love Red. ❤
I always like the Marvin character. Shame we won't see him again.
One of the best scenes in this show’s history. Loved this scene. Priceless.
Got a feeling that Red is gonna still be the last one standing in the end. Always two, three steps, seven steps ahead of everyone else he is.
He was 😂

A clear reference to Caesar in Shakespeare: Cowards suffer many deaths but hero’s die but once.

Had to watch again. Such a wonderful dialogue.
Raymond Reddington is one of the greatest TV characters ever. James Spader killed that role.
Red doesn’t have a partner, he carries the weight of the darkness alone.
Love James Spader ❤
He could read the dictionary and make it sound amazing.
I duinno. Spader read for the audiobook for LOST HIGHWAYS by Dean Koontz, and that voice for hours, with that quiet deep timber, was sleep-inducing.

Such a brilliant scene

She was the worst character on the show by far. They should have bumped her off long ago and found him another long lost child.

Some credit to the great Fisher Stevens, one of the most underrated and underappreciated actors.
I loved him in HACKERS
Raymond Reddington:I need a new lawyer.
Harvey Specter: When do I start?
I'd say he doesn't hire clowns, but he hired the carnie guy...
i love how he caresses marvin with the gun and then slams it down on the table. red always knows how to set the mood lmfao 😂😂😂

Classic Ray!!
This was one of the most intense/best scenes in an otherwise crap season.
What amazes me is how small his neck is in comparison to his head, it looks like its barely holding on
I’m pretty sure he had medical issues that caused this.

Great scene…Marvin got greedy
Marvin and Red were never partners, and they didn't create Red's empire together, this entire plot was such a huge retcon to try and stretch the show after Meghan left.
First movie i watched of james spader was in a bond movie. He is good at what he does

Bad Influence was great, also because Lowe was just coming off his scandal.
If they ever make a live action South Park movie, Fisher Stevens should play Mr Mackie. I WILL die on this hill. Fight me.

He did
Fisher Stevens went from building robots to working with international fugitives
Legend
Reddington surprised me in this scene, the old Red would have shot Marvin right then and there. I guess the death of Liz really changed him😔
Your judge had to step out so i will be judging you today
Mr Spader, I love your acting, I am in Australia, my home is yours anytime. Big ❤ aussie girl.

He was terrified, and yet he was brave.
It was acceptance. Don’t think bravery played into it
I love him, especially as ultron
when i hear this now it makes me think the blacklist age of reddington
That's some amazing acting by both of them.
So much about this show was messed up because of how they dealt with the character Elizabeth Keene. But Spader's acting was impeccable.
BEST EVER
the best series ever, as well as house of cards
Raymond Reddington who is not Raymond Reddington is a phucking hell of a personality and he is so sly MF I love him lol
James Spader is just the best!
Wow, Spader is unrecognizable.
I speak for everyone when I say we hoped she was alive for Red's sake and not her own
Red could to kill Marvin while in shackles at the Federal judges chamber at the approval of the judge's boss to show how much power he has over him.
Hollywood. Why do the guns always make a clicking/cocking sound when they so much as even move?
red doesnt understand that it was him that got liz killed, his pride to be in control of everything got liz killed, his arrogance that people would just accept some random girl taking over the empire people spent their lives building, his ego that no one would dare go against him
